AOC's Green Deal FAQ: "Economic security to all who are unable or unwilling to work"

by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 7, 2019 7:57 PM |
But how did it get there in the first place, R2? Was it just a draft, or was she hacked like Joy Reid?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 10, 2019 6:40 PM |
The part about replacing all airplanes with trains within 10 years is particularly priceless. It doesn't get much dumber than that. The Dems have completely lost it.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 10, 2019 6:43 PM |
She is an idiot.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 10, 2019 6:58 PM |
AOC is now saying the Green New Deal was actually planted by Republicans? Did they try to smear her?
[quote] A policy adviser to Ocasio-Cortez, though, told Fox News Friday night that the claims were some kind of hoax perpetuated by Republicans.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 10, 2019 7:07 PM |
The site linked at R2 looks, at best, to be under construction. Where was this posted? Do you have a link, R4, to where she says she wants to replace airplanes with trains? I ask because that sounds, to be honest, a reasonable approach to lessening environmental damage. No, I don't think replacing 100% of airplanes with trains is doable or reasonable; there are circumstances where air travel is the only means; however, the majority of air travel is unnecessary and could be achieved much more cost effectively and with far, far lesser environmental impact than a plane trip.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 10, 2019 7:10 PM |
[R6] Does this mean that farting cows are back in the mix. [R7] You are as loopy as AOC.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 10, 2019 7:13 PM |
What are you blathering on about farting cows, R8? I'm only vaguely aware of the argument over the environmental impact of the cattle industry (and it's not too good), but I am acutely aware of the airline industry, why we fly such ridiculously short distances, and how much it costs everyone so that a relatively small portion of the citizenry can live a mobile existence. Now, don't take my words out of context and try to say that I'm trying to stop people from flying; that's not the case whatsoever. What I am saying is that there are extremely popular routes that do nothing to save time, cost far more than alternatives, and are a burden on the entire system.
Take, for instance, the Northeast corridor and flights between Boston and New York. I flew it several times, and realized that it was taking as long (or, in many instances, much longer) door-to-door than if I drove. My boss loved that I was willing to drive for about a quarter of what it cost to fly; I appreciated that I was on my schedule, could take whatever I wanted with me, and when I arrived, had the freedom and convenience of my own car (not to mention avoiding the joy of modern air travel with bitchy airline employees, complaining passengers kicking the back of my seat, or worse, and being at the mercy of everyone and anyone who wanted to delay a flight). Now, imagine if you could board a hyperloop in Boston and in under an hour, arrive in Manhattan. Not only would it be convenient and just as fast as an airplane, save pollution, create jobs to build and maintain a rail/tube network, would be far cheaper than air so many more people could afford it, and ultimately, be better for everyone.
You have to remember that many decisions we make contemporaneously may seem like the best solution but only have their real costs revealed after time and experience. Air travel became the mode of choice when the roads/tracks, bridges and tunnels became inadequate (for a variety of reasons) for the quantity of people who travelled. Add in all of the complexities of public vs. private ownership, and you have the perfect storm of why the costlier, less economical and environmental choice prevailed. It's not as simple as I'm portraying it, but I'm not writing a dissertation on modern travel.
Continuing to do things simply because that's the way we've done them for years is not sufficient. Fighting entrenched stakeholders is hard, as AOC is discovering, but if we want to progress as a society, we must accept that change is good. And it is high time that we stop catering to the 1% and think about the 99% who live with the decisions that they force on us.

It’s fucking weird.

[R9] Kooky socialist blowhard.

Good intentions, but zero touch with reality.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 10, 2019 8:12 PM |
R4, name at least one other dem who was elected with AOC. I dare you. She doesn't speak for the dems. Just because the media is too lazy and stupid to ever menntion anyone else as a dem other than Pelosi or Schumer doesn't mean you have to fall for it.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 10, 2019 11:02 PM |
Get used to it, R11. Change is coming whether you think it's kooky or smart.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 10, 2019 11:13 PM |
It seems she rolled this out on her own, then received pushback from the senior Dems.
That's more believable than her website was hacked, or this was all a big smear to make her look bad.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 10, 2019 11:46 PM |
I'm certain she was hacked. It happens quite frequently.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 11, 2019 1:48 AM |
She doesn't need hackers to make her look bad. She does it all on her own. Sheesh, what an idiot.

"Unwilling to work" usually refers to homeless people, a significant number of whom reject attempts to get them into housing and stable jobs. It doesn't mean lazy black welfare queens. I am no fan of this woman, but I have an IQ over 90 and common sense.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 11, 2019 10:31 AM |
You drooling shitposting fucks lost your mind over corporate-friendly, half-a-loaf of Obamacare. So fuck it. Let's do this socialism thing right!

My tax money is already going to pay for bullshit jobs for white collar workers via corporate tax breaks, and to subsidize the minimum wage workforce through food stamps, Medicare and Section 8 housing.

R6, if AOC's site was hacked/hoaxed as her policy advisor claims, there should be a thorough investigation into the serious crime of hacking the web sites of government officials. If they don't demand an investigation, they're lying and she's trying to cover her dopey misstep.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 11, 2019 2:57 PM |
That's supposed to be an explanation that makes it OK, R21? Congratulations on your IQ of 91.

R6 I reported in the AOC thread that the professor from Cornell who helped her draft the Green Manifesto said that someone had messed with the copy from her office. He said that there was nothing about people unwilling to work.
I was embarrassed for him.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 11, 2019 3:40 PM |
The problem with AOC saying that it wasn't from her is that it was sent to the media by her team along with the PR announcing the GND earlier in the week. Both documents were sent together on an embargoed basis, which is a common practice.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 11, 2019 4:43 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 12, 2019 12:12 AM |
Doubtful, r33, since her people sent it to places like NPR and The Hill along with the press release.

R23, it's also going for bombs to blow up Yemenis. I don't see you whining about that.

AOC could not be doing a better job of discrediting the Democratic party if she had been planted in office for that very purpose.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 12, 2019 3:47 PM |
[quote]Unwilling to work" usually refers to homeless people, a significant number of whom reject attempts to get them into housing and stable jobs
No, r21, wrong. Homeless people who reject attempts to get housing and jobs are mentally/emotionally ill, and therefore are disabled. “Unwilling to work” is a lightning rod for voters who slog in to work every day, and still can’t make ends meet.
This AOC fuckup, unfortunately, will have long term disastrous effects for Dems. She said it, she sent it out, it’s been screen-shot in a million places, and efforts to walk it back will not work. Fuck.

To make matters worse for the Dems, FOUR of the leading candidates (Booker, Kamala, Gillibrand, Warren) have endorsed the NGD while Bernie was an original co-sponsor. They will live to regret it.

R13 Why does the media give OAC so much attention then if she's not the "voice of her generation" like Lens Dunham? Or are you saying that the media is actually rightwing and are using her to ensure a second Trump victory in 2020?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 12, 2019 4:35 PM |
[quote]Why does the media give OAC so much attention then if she's not the "voice of her generation" like Lens Dunham?
The media wants women like Lens and AOC to be the voices of their generation. The public doesn't see it that way.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 12, 2019 4:37 PM |
But why do they, R41? Knowing the public at large despises (or at least gets a severe cast of the eye rolls from) these women, why does the media continue to ram them down everyone's throats anyway? All it does is drive people to the other extreme.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 12, 2019 4:41 PM |
The Democratic Party is unhinged. They need to get back to center , or Trump wins! Enough with this SJW crap and socialist economics
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 12, 2019 4:42 PM |
It's because young women like Lens and AOC epitomize the SWJ indoctrination so common on college campuses around the country. They're not really outliers but spokespeople for a certain strain of Leftist lunacy that's gripped the corridors of "higher" education. They live in an alternate universe of straw men and fantasy-driven crusades and dedicate themselves to chasing unicorns most Americans have no time for. If one or both would set themselves on fire it would make a real statement but it's really all just a kind to pretending that's profoundly silly at its core. The headline in November, 2020 will be TRUMP BY A LANDSLIDE.

AOC really is becoming the face of the Democratic Party. With prominent Dems backing her up and cheerleading her. I really don't know what to think about this.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 12, 2019 6:12 PM |
I thought Kamala was smart. Why is she hitching her wagon to AOC instead of giving her a well-deserved slap for her stupidity? Makes me think less of Kamala if she's willing to entertain OAC.

WaPo had an article yesterday that quoted an anonymous sources within the democratic party saying a umber of liberal democrats6 were annoyed about the FAQ being released.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 12, 2019 6:22 PM |
Did AOC release the FAQ herself along with the original Green Deal, or were the FAQ released afterwards by media etc. who saw them on her website?

She's pulling a Joy Reid.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | February 12, 2019 6:43 PM |
The FAQ and PR were sent to the media, together in the same email, on an embargoed basis. It wasn't pulled from her site, r49.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | February 12, 2019 6:52 PM |
That's what I thought R51, thanks. What could she have been thinking to include "unwilling to work"? Is that really her philosophy, does she really think it's reasonable to propose giving financial stability to those who are simply unwilling to work? I'm really at a loss.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | February 12, 2019 7:02 PM |

To make matters worse from the Dems, another member of the new Congress, Ilhan Omar, has within the past several days unleashed a series of anti-Semitic tweets. If I were a loyal Jewish Dem I'd be mighty pissed. The Far Left is opening up a schism in the party that spells serious trouble. Will they continue to stand behind the likes of AOC and Omar at the expense of alienating longterm Dem voters and the donor class? What will they tell antsy Jewish voters to reassure them they're not being thrown under the bus to appease the party's new radicals?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | February 12, 2019 8:08 PM |
Yes, Imagine if Ilhan Omar had looked at a mob of torchbearing Nazis, who were all chanting "Jews Will Not Replace Us!" and said some of them were good people. THEN the Dems would be in trouble.
Imagine if rabid supporters of AOC flooded her critics' inboxes with Photoshopped images of AOC as a concentration camp guard, putting her critics in the ovens.
That would be TERRIBLE.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday that the Senate would vote on the Green New Deal introduced last week by Sen. Edward Markey, D-Mass., and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.
"I've noted with great interest the Green New Deal, and we're going to be voting on that in the Senate to give everybody an opportunity to go on record," McConnell told reporters.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | February 13, 2019 12:50 AM |
Mitch isn’t stupid. He wants to force Senators like Harris, Warren, Gillibrand, Klobuchar, Booker, and Sanders to be on record as voting in favor of this nonsense.
AOC is so stupid she has no idea how badly she is damaging Democrats.
Nancy needs to find a way to muzzle and sideline this stupid bitch ASAP.

Why isn't it possible to split up the "Green New Deal" into component parts? The actual New Deal wasn't passed in one fell swoop. This is another clue that AOC has no clue what she's doing. If she were smart, she'd split it up into component parts and push the most palatable parts of her plan.
I'm also failing to see what an income guarantee has to do with climate change. And that's another thing that shows AOC's too big for her britches: She won't advance textbook Keynesian economics even though it's popular with a lot of Americans. Many Americans don't mind government putting people to work, but they do mind government letting people sponge off taxpayers.

People do understand that this is not a proposed bill, but rather a blueprint for a comprehensive plan for potential legislation. Plus, she didn't come up with this on her own. People seem to gloss over the fact that Senator Ed Markey, who has been in Congress for over 40 years, signed onto the Green New Deal as well.
