Didn’t wanna derail the All Stars 7 thread. Now that the promo and designers are out, let’s discuss.

Project Runway - White males need not apply.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 3, 2019 8:43 PM |
Ugh. “...inclusion of plus-size models”
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 3, 2019 8:49 PM |
The Colombian dude is cute. As is Garo. Of course the girl from Nashville is wearing that hat like she’s going to Coachella 2012.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 3, 2019 9:53 PM |
Is the hot makeup daddy returning?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 10, 2019 8:40 PM |
Not a reboot.
God, I wish people would learn what "reboot" actually means.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 10, 2019 8:45 PM |
I liked the plus sized models. It really separates the men from the boys, especially if they want to work in today’s market.
Even Rihanna isn’t a size 4.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 10, 2019 8:49 PM |
If it looks like a reboot and sounds like a reboot...
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 10, 2019 9:08 PM |
Nina got a promotion
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 10, 2019 9:20 PM |
Nina Garcia is having a prophylactic double mastectomy (she has the BRCA gene.)
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 10, 2019 11:27 PM |
Hopefully this means a gay guy will finally win now that the show is no longer on frau central Lifetime.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 9, 2019 8:43 PM |
is there any update on Chris March/season 4 health?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 10, 2019 5:34 PM |
No Tim = no go.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 10, 2019 5:37 PM |
Hopefully this means a gay guy will finally win now that the show is no longer on frau central Lifetime.
It's true, PR was on Lifetime for 9 seasons and a man only won three times, seasons 10, 13 and 16. Women were twice as likely to win on Lifetime.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 10, 2019 5:46 PM |
Not if you count the All Stars seasons, men won almost all of them. But people try to ignore that fact when they go on their silly conspiracy theory.
Guys only won 8 seasons on Lifetime, it's a conspiracy!!!!!!
It's such a made up complaint, there are plenty of real things to bitch about with runway.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 10, 2019 5:51 PM |
Another ugh for plus sized models. It skews the judging.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 10, 2019 5:56 PM |
I'm watching a rerun of the Christian Sirano-Jillian-Chris March-Rami season right now on Bravo, complete with Kors. It really was a lot more focussed back then. Tim spent more time critiquing the designs and offering suggestions.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 10, 2019 6:08 PM |
Karlie Kloss is gross. She looks like a monster.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 10, 2019 6:14 PM |
R12 As of last July he was in a medical facility in N. Cal. undergoing rehab. He’s been hospitalized for months and has tons of medical bills. Sounds like he had a stroke? (right arm and both legs paralyzed) and kidney failure which may or may not be resolved.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 10, 2019 8:52 PM |
Christian's season was my favorite. So fun and a very talented group on the whole. Loved all the finalists.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 10, 2019 9:13 PM |
Poor Chris March! Paralyzed and still recovering. Too bad some of his rich friends or clients don’t step up and pay the 100k to reach his GoFundMe goal. To think someone paid R. Kelly’s 160k child support that was in arrears makes me sick and shows how screwed up the world is.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 11, 2019 8:46 AM |
It looks like that apart from Real World challenges they are doing away with models of different sizes, which is a shame, because that really separated the men from the boys, so to speak. And if you are a Christian Siriano or a Michael Costello who can created fashion for a Heidi Klum AND a Queen Latifah you will have a better chance at a real business.
But there are trans models, so progress?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 14, 2019 3:02 AM |
r22 That's really disappointing re: different-sized models. Not a good first impression.
Can't wait for this to start as I've skipped the last All Stars altogether. Milano and Chapman together is just too much for me. When does that new show with Heidi and Tim premiere?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 14, 2019 3:09 AM |
In a few days.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 14, 2019 3:11 AM |
Of course a designer should be able to create fashion for all sizes, but in a runway competition, the models should all have similar frames so as to not skew the judging of the design, imo...
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 14, 2019 3:15 AM |
Funnily, during the regular shows of the last real season the designers who got the thinnest models didn’t necessarily make better outfits or make their models look better week by week than the designers who drew the regular sized or plus sized ones.
I hope the trans model thing is for a gender non-conforming week and not a regular thing.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 14, 2019 3:39 AM |
But when they have such a short time to design, fit, and sew a garment, throwing different size models into the mix is just easy way to screw with the contestants. Then the judges get to complain about the fit of the crotch or whatever.
I wonder how the new season will address the inherent schizophrenia of the show: win weekly competitions with cutting edge designs vs very commercial sponsors looking for mall clothes.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 14, 2019 9:19 AM |
People are counting down to the premiere on Twitter. Seems like they're really excited for this. Though I doubt anyone among them is excited about Karlie Kloss and her Trump connection.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 14, 2019 9:43 PM |
This starts in ten minutes, right?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 14, 2019 11:49 PM |
I agree r25. The models of different sizes is a weird thing in this type of competition setting. I am glad the reboot isn't carrying it over.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 14, 2019 11:51 PM |
Show me one designer who was in the bottom because [italic]and only because[/italic] their design wasn't flattering to the plus-size model. Never happened; they always took other aspects into consideration so as not to be unfair.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 14, 2019 11:55 PM |
R31 types plus sized...
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 14, 2019 11:59 PM |
Showing the Season 5 finale, oh Korto. She came in 2nd place three damn times.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 14, 2019 11:59 PM |
r32 I'm a thin homo but I hate how this show pretends these people will design for runways only and not for actual fraus, who are more likely than not plus-sized.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 15, 2019 12:04 AM |
Not feeling Maxwell and his stupid oversized glasses already.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 15, 2019 12:04 AM |
Not digging Karlie in the first five minutes.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 15, 2019 12:06 AM |
"Christian Siriano is your mentor for this season" - Whut? So he's here for one season only? Is he hedging his bets in case the first season bombs?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 15, 2019 12:09 AM |
I need TG.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 15, 2019 12:08 AM |
Karlie's voice is fake and annoying. It's a fake freak how.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 15, 2019 12:10 AM |
r39 So fucking fake. Where did she buy that accent?!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 15, 2019 12:10 AM |
Christian is so natural at this; must be the confidence from his business spilling over.
That Indian designer is balding and has a tragic combover, but other than that is the cutest thing ever.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 15, 2019 12:14 AM |
Korto was my favorite for that season. No one mentioned the necklaces she made, they were fabulous.
How many designers are there??? It's a cast of thousands.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 15, 2019 12:15 AM |
Oh, here we go with the religious exemptions... Does that bitch know the guys are mostly all homos? No problem with that?
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 15, 2019 12:21 AM |
Are you straight? *busts out laughing*
At least it led to that exchange.
Giving them two days for the challenge I see.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 15, 2019 12:24 AM |
Is Swatch still...
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 15, 2019 12:24 AM |
"250 is not enough money"
"I've never had this much money to spend on one garment!"
Some producer was very happy with those two interviews.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 15, 2019 12:26 AM |
Mixed dorm rooms? I can't stand wearing pajamas so that would never work for me.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 15, 2019 12:28 AM |
The new workroom has such pleasant, natural lighting.
Hester might be getting the loser or the winner edit, I'm not sure yet.

Can't wait to hear Christian's feedback.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 15, 2019 12:31 AM |
What was that comment with the subtitles?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 15, 2019 12:37 AM |
r51 She joked, "It's a competition now, better take your hands off me."
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 15, 2019 12:38 AM |
I will never get used to seeing ads for friggin' [italic]bipolar disorder[/italic] medication on your TV.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 15, 2019 12:40 AM |
Kapoor is so goofy and handsome, I'm smitten.
Christian's comments are so on point, omg.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 15, 2019 12:44 AM |
I miss Tim. Christian may be talented but at this game he's a lightweight. His critiques were wan.
Karlie is a genetic freak.
The squealy Indian guy is getting on my nerves.
Frankie needs to leave. Ditto the goofball white girl.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 15, 2019 12:53 AM |
First emotional breakdown of the season!
Kapoor's backstory was heartbreaking. Just keep on being joyous, dear.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | March 15, 2019 12:54 AM |
“Maybelline makeup studio.” Lol.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 15, 2019 12:57 AM |
r55 But didn't Christian tell that one contestant how she could salvage her design?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 15, 2019 12:57 AM |
The voices are so annoying and affected.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 15, 2019 12:59 AM |
Cavanagh is a goner, isn't she?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 15, 2019 12:59 AM |
The trans model is creepy looking. Yeah, I said it.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 15, 2019 1:00 AM |
Plus size meltdown girl is going home.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 15, 2019 1:00 AM |
Only a few contestants are getting focus this ep. Indian guy (kavid?), Cavanaugh, and Frankie.
Winner and bottom two?
by Anonymous | reply 63 | March 15, 2019 1:00 AM |
Sorry but does the trans model still have twig and berries? Does the designer have enough fabric to cover or tuck that?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | March 15, 2019 1:01 AM |
Kavanagh is the newest villain; she'll be around for a while.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 15, 2019 1:02 AM |
Plus size meltdown girl doesn’t even have a van to live in down by the river. She can’t go home cuz she ain’t got one!
by Anonymous | reply 66 | March 15, 2019 1:02 AM |
Chritian may be a wonderful designer but he is no Tim Gunn. Tim is the perfect mentor. I don't know WTF Christian is doing. He should've stuck with being a judge.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | March 15, 2019 1:04 AM |
I hate the clown girl
by Anonymous | reply 68 | March 15, 2019 1:03 AM |
Yeah, being emotionally supportive doesn't come naturally to Christian like it does to Tim. His attempts to comfort Frankie were fairly business like and didn't have much warmth r67. Not hating on him, I'd be the same way, but it is a big change from what we are used to with Gunn.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | March 15, 2019 1:05 AM |
That was a metric fucktonne of train right there.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | March 15, 2019 1:10 AM |
Fuck these people for trying to ram fat models down our throats. Ditto for the creepy trans.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | March 15, 2019 1:10 AM |
Who just said "that's the going home look right there" to her neighbor? Was it cavanaugh?
by Anonymous | reply 72 | March 15, 2019 1:13 AM |
Or did I mishear that?
by Anonymous | reply 73 | March 15, 2019 1:14 AM |
r72 What? Someone actually said that?!
by Anonymous | reply 74 | March 15, 2019 1:14 AM |
I thought I heard it, but now I'm not sure. It was when the bathing suit went down the runway.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | March 15, 2019 1:14 AM |
YAS to the rest of the designers watching the critiques on TV!
by Anonymous | reply 76 | March 15, 2019 1:14 AM |
Someone said that to Cavanaugh r72. Not sure who.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | March 15, 2019 1:15 AM |
R46 that made me laugh. The girl was so happy to have $250!
by Anonymous | reply 78 | March 15, 2019 1:17 AM |
Christian doesn't have a lot of presence. Tim is tall, with a deep, concerned voice.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | March 15, 2019 1:16 AM |
R72, I was listening pretty closely and didn't hear that comment but maybe I just missed it.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | March 15, 2019 1:16 AM |
“She looked strong and confident on the runway and that’s all that matters”
Really? So the outfit can look like shit but that doesn’t matter if the model is a good actress?
I’m not impressed by this male designer judge.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | March 15, 2019 1:17 AM |
That was the most vicious "however" from Nina in the history of this show.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | March 15, 2019 1:18 AM |
Oh Jesus send this Frankie home STAT.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | March 15, 2019 1:19 AM |
I heard the "going home look" comment. It was probably spliced in from a confessional.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | March 15, 2019 1:19 AM |
Look at the schmattes this Brandon Maxwell's slinging at Neiman's.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | March 15, 2019 1:20 AM |
I adore Renee's look.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | March 15, 2019 1:21 AM |
Brandon Maxwell is trying to be Michael Kors.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | March 15, 2019 1:23 AM |
Ugh, I have the sneaking suspicion Frankie will live to see another seam ripper.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | March 15, 2019 1:22 AM |
It would be great if both Cav and Frankie were sent home. Cull the herd!
by Anonymous | reply 89 | March 15, 2019 1:23 AM |
Frankie was a loser, period. The initial design was a lousy concept, never mind her unexpectedly Gargantuan model.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | March 15, 2019 1:25 AM |
Frankie’s model hates her LOL
by Anonymous | reply 91 | March 15, 2019 1:25 AM |
R85, $1700 for a pink wrap top, polyester and nylon.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | March 15, 2019 1:25 AM |
But they’ll keep her because social justice...
by Anonymous | reply 93 | March 15, 2019 1:25 AM |
Tessa, youre kidding
by Anonymous | reply 94 | March 15, 2019 1:26 AM |
Agreed, R87. There's only one problem, this one has not a scintilla of wit or a sense of humor.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | March 15, 2019 1:26 AM |
Nina loves them straps so of course Tessa won.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | March 15, 2019 1:27 AM |
I didn't like cavanaugh at all but Frankie really should've lost. Her outfit was shit
by Anonymous | reply 97 | March 15, 2019 1:29 AM |
Eh Frankie should have gone. That was really tasteless, and to me that crosses a line that beats bland every time.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | March 15, 2019 1:30 AM |
So we're going down the pc path, eh? Should make for a boring season.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | March 15, 2019 1:29 AM |
One vocal fry down.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | March 15, 2019 1:29 AM |
But, but, but......social justice
by Anonymous | reply 101 | March 15, 2019 1:30 AM |
So that weird Asian half-bow is the new Auf?
by Anonymous | reply 102 | March 15, 2019 1:31 AM |
R99 I don’t know if you’re referring to the race of the women (dipshit if you are), but even though I disagree with who was auf’ed, they always eliminate the bland look over the messy look.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | March 15, 2019 1:33 AM |
they always eliminate the bland look over the messy look.
Exactly. The look was nothing, it had no design to it. That is automatically the look they want to eliminate.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | March 15, 2019 1:34 AM |
Renee was robbed. Her look was gorgeous & was definitely a hark back to the photo inspiration. Not to mention she was styled impeccably.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | March 15, 2019 1:43 AM |
r105 I'm thinking it was too expensive to produce.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | March 15, 2019 1:44 AM |
Whrn the guy told Brandon Maxwell that he was inspired by the balloons in the background in the picture of Brandon’s mother, I laughed
by Anonymous | reply 107 | March 15, 2019 1:45 AM |
Frankie stayed because she cried, period. Won’t somebody think of the stone cold bitches?
by Anonymous | reply 108 | March 15, 2019 1:45 AM |
I miss Tim! When is his new show coming out?
by Anonymous | reply 109 | March 15, 2019 1:51 AM |
I think the PC comments refer to the “curvy” models and the creepy “trans woman” (who made a whole little inspiring speech to the Indian guy who squealed with delight throughout.) Because we’re all supposed to loooove fat (oops, I mean CURVY) women and trannies.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | March 15, 2019 2:17 AM |
Is Renee the Muslim woman? I liked her look, the winning look(Tessa?), the guy from Brazil’s look and the guy with the rhyming name’s look(Gary something?)
by Anonymous | reply 111 | March 15, 2019 2:20 AM |
Sorry, the guy from Columbia, Jhoan, and Garo Sparo...^^^
by Anonymous | reply 112 | March 15, 2019 2:26 AM |
I didn't mind it, but the shrieking Indian guy can go next.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | March 15, 2019 3:34 AM |
"Don't worry that's going home right there" is what Nadine said to Cavanagh about Frankie's outfit.
Rude AND wrong
by Anonymous | reply 114 | March 15, 2019 4:40 AM |
Brandon Maxwell seems like the gayest guy in high school...."winner winner chicken dinner "? Really ?..Ugh.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | March 15, 2019 5:12 AM |
R114, it was the worst outfit seen in many years.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | March 15, 2019 5:46 AM |
The Bravo reboot is nothing. They should have left it for dead at Lifetime.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | March 15, 2019 5:48 AM |
The "Woke" version.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | March 15, 2019 6:21 AM |
These clothes are hideous.
And who is the deplorable in here and why are you watching this show? Go watch duck dynasty with it all.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | March 15, 2019 6:35 AM |
I had to laugh at how easy Cavanagh made it for the producers to give her that edit. She just kept playing right into their hands with every comment up until her last line. I hope the designers were just off their game in the first episode because the average look seemed substandard.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | March 15, 2019 7:41 AM |
Yeah, the show itself looks better, with a bigger budget and production values, but the clothes were almost uniformly awful.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | March 15, 2019 8:20 AM |
Is it all filmed in Brooklyn?
by Anonymous | reply 122 | March 15, 2019 9:53 AM |
I think it has been for years, except for the obligatory Mood visits.
New, brighter sets, longer sew time but not much improvement otherwise. Brandon Maxwell tries to be Kors and he was off putting for some reason, the other woman (editor of Teen Vogue) was better but twice said she'd wear someone's garment. Karlie Kloss speaks too fast. That was one thing about Heidi, she speaks slowly and with emphasis when talking to the designers. Sirano seems on par with the other non-Tim-Gunn mentors. First episode so this could all shake out as it continues but I was expecting more of a shake up.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | March 15, 2019 10:15 AM |
I really loved this new version of PR.
And I disagree about the quality of the designs. I thought that many of them were outstanding.
I think that Renee was absolutely robbed. Tessa's dress with the hanging straps from the back, was just alright. It was nothing special
Frankie most definitely should have gone home instead of Kavenaugh. This is exactly the kind of bullshit which has made the show lose credibility over the years. Anyone with eyes could have seen that Frankie's horrible blue monstrosity deserved to go home, regardless of whether or not Kavenaugh was uptight and bitchy. Her garment was still better than Frankie's.
I thought that the Indian guy Kovid was sweet. He and his boyfriend are cute, and it was nice that he has the trans model. It's a perfect pairing.
However, as far as hotness, I think that Garo and Sebastian (the housekeeper) are the hottest guys. I actually have quite a crush on Sebastian.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | March 15, 2019 12:07 PM |
Her garment was still better than Frankie's.
Her outfit was better made, but it literally had no point of a view, it was as generic as generic gets. Cavanaugh recognized that herself, when the person tells her Frankie's outfit is the one going home she replies "At least she tried to do something"
by Anonymous | reply 125 | March 15, 2019 12:14 PM |
How did Karlie Kushner get this job? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | March 15, 2019 12:17 PM |
Her name is Karlie Kushner-Trump, R126.
Get it straight.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | March 15, 2019 12:19 PM |
I live in Nashville & we have a local noon show on one of the channels.
Cavanaugh was one of the guests yesterday. She came off so entitled & imperious. She was name dropping all the famous women she's dressed for the red carpets.
It was an immediate dislike for me. Seeing her Auf's last night was a delight.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | March 15, 2019 12:23 PM |
R125 That was an insightful comment on her part which makes me wonder if she was deliberately trying to play it safe for the first few episodes and totally misjudged it. If she had picked another colour she might have managed to go under the judge's radar this week.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | March 15, 2019 12:27 PM |
However sloppily it was made, I still found Frankie's strips more intriguing than Cavanaugh's nothing of a design. There was a freshness to it. Also, we're rid of the witch in the first episode already. I really don't need someone like her ruining the entire season, talent or no talent.
Like r124, I find the Colombian guy and Garo insanely attractive, thought I still can't quite tell them apart. Oh, to be caught in that sandwich, with Kapur giggling and cheering us on in the corner...
by Anonymous | reply 130 | March 15, 2019 12:33 PM |
I find the Colombian guy and Garo insanely attractive, thought I still can't quite tell them apart.
"The Colombian guy" is named Sebastian. Sebastian Grey, oddly.
I have a feeling that most of these peoples' names are made up. Sebastian Grey, Garo Sparo, Hester Sunshine. Yeah, right.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | March 15, 2019 12:41 PM |
She's married to Josh Kushner, R 127. Get it straight.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | March 15, 2019 12:43 PM |
Karlie explained to Andy Cohen that even though Frankie’s outfit was a mess, it expressed a POV and creativity which is why she stayed and the blonde was sent home.
Karlie may have connections but she’s also a top fashion model with ten years of experience. So she isn’t just a nepotism hire. At least they didn’t hire a Kardashian to host the show.
Christian knows that “there’s no crying in fashion” which is why he doesn’t dry any tears. I appreciate his “Get it together or get out” approach to being a mentor.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | March 15, 2019 2:39 PM |
Tim started hugging the designers because Lifetime loved that sappy shit. But it's just not how real life works. Do [italic]your[/italic] coworkers huddle around you and console you and hug you when you're feeling stressed?
by Anonymous | reply 134 | March 15, 2019 2:44 PM |
I spot a MTF in the bottom row
by Anonymous | reply 135 | March 15, 2019 2:47 PM |
R134
Tim is a very warm person but that's not why he's superior to CS in my opinion. Tim gives actual critique guides them to think about the challenge & a different direction.
CS offered none of that. He's more suited to be a judge than the mentor.
Shit! We would actually see Tim examine the fabric & design. CS just seemed to amble around.
Tim is a very warm person but that's not why he's superior to CS in my opinion. Tim gives actual critique guides them to think about the challenge & a different direction. CS offered none of that. He's more suited to be a judge than the mentor.
I agree 100%, R136!
Christian was just wandering around the workroom, looking lost. He was like, "does anyone need help? does anyone need help?" Hello! He should be there OFFERING a critique, and not asking if anyone WANTS one.
The reason Tim was a better mentor is because 1) He's an actual teacher. So he actually talks about technique. 2) He has years and YEARS of experience. And 3) Tim guided them along, and didn't tell them what to do. These are all qualities of a good mentor.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | March 15, 2019 11:32 PM |
Christian should have taken the initiative and gone from one designer to the other in a systematic fashion, that's correct. But it's the first episode so let's cut him some slack. Pedagogical and mentorship skills take time to develop. Also, those critiques can be super annoying when you interrupt someone who's hard at work.
When it comes to Tim... let's be real for a moment. He's not a designer and never has been. He's also a bit long in the tooth to know what's in right now. Yes, he can offer perfectly usable technical critiques that pertain to taste and proportions, but to offer advice that's going to be helpful beyond the challenge at hand, in the fashion business, you need someone who's in the thick of it [italic]right now.[/italic] It's like receiving a lecture about the publishing business from someone who's never actually worked in the publishing trenches. It can be done (been there) but it's just not the optimal thing to offer to people. Why not go that extra mile if you can?
I really fail to grasp how people find Tim a better mentor than a designer currently at the top of his game.

R143
What a stupid post. Just because someone's older doesn't mean they aren't up on the latest trends. He is in the fashion business. He could discuss it from a historical perspective as well as what's happening now or what trends are leaning for in the future.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | March 15, 2019 11:51 PM |
I guarantee you every person in that room would rather have Christian there than Tim Gunn. I like Tim, but it's the simple truth. Siriano is who they all are trying to become, those designers want to learn from him.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | March 15, 2019 11:55 PM |
Are you beating up on Christian because he’s openly gay and successful? Because there’s only been one episode and these were his first on-camera moments. Was he nervous? Did they trim his scenes in order to give more air time to the Indian Guy, Frankie, the trans model, etc.?
Tim Gunn, as a trained teacher, is a “mentor” for a living. He has years of experience that Christian doesn’t have.
Oh well, let’s all just hate Christian too, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | March 16, 2019 12:00 AM |
Siriano is who they all are trying to become, those designers want to learn from him.
I thought that they were trying to "become" THEMSELVES. Not a Christian Siriano clone.
I thought that design was about expressing YOUR OWN point of view, and not someone else's?
You sound dumb.
Are you beating up on Christian because he’s openly gay and successful?
You mean by choosing another openly gay and successful man (Tim Gunn) over him?
This has to be one of the most moronic statements I've ever read on Datalonge. And it REEKS of misdirected victimhood.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | March 16, 2019 12:10 AM |
Gunn was more nuanced, but less specific. He made for a good foil to the uppity fashion archetype, and offered calmness in the face of high stakes competition.
Christian is more precise, to the point and less warm and fuzzy. But he still gets the job done and is entitled to put his own spin on the role. But I agree with the comment upthread that his strength is in his expertise on current fashion, and the fact that he is likable.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | March 16, 2019 12:26 AM |
I wonder if they tried to keep just Tim, but he decided to stick with Heide. However much money he wanted would be worth it. She, on the other hand—no great loss.

The show is trying to be so diverse. How about having a straight male instead of that abortion Kushner? That would be revolutionary. Imagine that - a straight man amongst a sea of queens.

No, fool. The show is trying to be diverse. That's a fact. But, they got a Heidi " clone" to be the host. If they wanted to be diverse, then they should go all the way.

And can I address the elephant in the room? Did nobody want Zac Posen? I miss his creepy Eddie Munster suits.
CS offered none of that. He's more suited to be a judge than the mentor.
Christian has insights but they remain in his brain for himself to actualize; he has no ability (yet?) to get those insights into another person’s brain without speaking in results.
Tim was able to speak to the source of creativity as well as the particular designer’s aesthetic and voice. Christian offers options which, if the game is properly played, is a big no-no.
During, I think Frankie’s critique, he didn’t stop at advising to construct a simpler short due to time constraints, he actually told her to do something specific to the waistband - that’s not his place to say, and it can be argued he gave one contestant an unfair advantage by doing so.
Christian is brilliant at designing and instantly sees what is necessary to ‘make it work’, but his job is to coax the designer to see that for themselves.
Mentoring without puppeteering is its own unique talent that leans on experience, yes, but takes a certain way of seeing not just things, but others and their approach to the task, themselves, and everything outside of themselves.

I'm an instant fan of Garo Sparo. His introductory look and his look for the challenge were excellent. ...and he's gorgeous and warmhearted. His real last name is longer and Italian. "Garo Sparo" is his brand. I hope he goes far, for all of the above reasons.

Tim was an excellent mentor in earlier seasons, but he became messy and unprofessional towards the end. He often showed up for work with bandages on his face after falling down drunk in his apartment. He also developed creepy romantic attachments to a few male designers, like that Indian guy, who Tim attacked when he showed no interest in Tim's flirting. I think Tim fell in love with a few of the men.

The episode bored me. I saw their designs on the Bravo Instagram before I watched, and almost all of them were really poor. Surprisingly poor designs.
I resent that Bravo hired a Kushner, too. People say that Jared’s brother has nothing to do with him, but the two of them just bought a shitload of apartment buildings together in the DC metro area. Any income received by either goes into the Kushner investment portfolio that funds their criminal empire. All of them are corrupt.
The only thing I will say is that when I look at the Kushner hostess, all I can see is Bjork, which is interesting to me because Bjork is Icelandic but has always looked Asian to me. I looked up the Kushner woman and it turns out she is Scandinavian, too—Danish—and so Bjork seems like less of an anomaly, despite her epicanthic folds.

Tim's "mentoring" for the past several seasons on Lifetime has consisted of hugging and talking about feelings. Christian is a nice change from that, in that he came in, talked about clothes, and didn't show up for the judging.

by Anonymous | reply 178 | March 17, 2019 1:26 PM |
People like to say that Jared’s brother is liberal and is appalled by his participation with Trump and with antisemitism.
Jared’s brother is his business partner, and both of them are leveraging his anti-USA efforts for personal profits. This is their recent billion-dollar cash grab together.
by Anonymous | reply 180 | March 17, 2019 2:24 PM |
This is how the elite in the US operate. Poor brown people go to prison for 10 years to life for marijuana possession or petty theft; these billionaires run scams that actually hurt families, and then maybe go to jail for 18 months after and during which they benefit from ill-gotten profits in the hundreds of millions. 18 months in a resort prison is not a big price to pay for siphoning that much money off the backs of the poor illegally.
Bravo is rewarding the behavior. You can bet your bottom dollar that Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper are cozy with Kushners.
“Charles Kushner is an American real estate developer. He founded Kushner Companies in 1985. In 2005, he was convicted of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and witness tampering. He served 14 months in federal prison, and resumed his career in real estate after his release.”
by Anonymous | reply 181 | March 17, 2019 2:28 PM |
By always positioning Jared’s brother as disapproving, progressive and a private family man, the media help the Kushner companies by softening public disapproval. Without saying “but his brother resists!!” there’d be a lot more push back against the Kushner companies. This way, the Kushner demons get their cake (all the exploitation of White House business and networks) and eat it too (profits from their private company via “but Joshua is GOOD!” and Karlie Kloss good PR for the family.

PLEASE! CAN'T WE JUST TALK ABOUT FROCKS?!!
by Anonymous | reply 183 | March 17, 2019 3:01 PM |
This reminds me of the Eurovision subreddit where people are begging to please focus on the music (it's set in Israel this year). Whether you want to admit it or not, you're financially supporting these people by watching this show. I'll watch the whole season but I'm not kidding myself - I am consciously supporting the Kushner criminal enterprise by doing so. Just like I'm supporting the Saudis and the Ruskies by using an ICE vehicle or anything made of petroleum. We do these trade-offs every single day, we just don't tend to think about them.
Anyway, I hope to see more colour and print from the designers going forward. Any particular reason why nearly everyone went for subdued?

by Anonymous | reply 185 | March 17, 2019 7:43 PM |
Sister in Law...how fucking gross! God I hate Ivanka.
Is it really so difficult to find a judge who has some personality? I mean there is Nina and everyone else. I have to fast forward through the cute Indian guy. He is fucking annoying. I agree Renee's outfit was superior and should have won. The black dude who did the feathers is really cute. I liked a lot of the men this first episode. Most of them seem pretty cool.
by Anonymous | reply 186 | March 17, 2019 8:59 PM |
My first impressions: . I wish Christian was the judge instead of Brandon, and I think Nick Verreos would have been a great mentor. But I will give Christian a chance because he's brand new to this, and it's going to take time for him to get comfortable, and to get to know the designers a little bit.
I'm not going to say they shouldn't have any plus sized models or trans models ever, but couldn't they at least get cute ones?
It's very early, but I was deeply underwhelmed by almost all the designs. Where is the imagination, the fantasy?
I found the Indian queen totally annoying and over the top. And I can't stand adults who dress like toddlers. Is she an adult baby? Yuck! . Frankie is also a bit over the top, but I had to laugh at how excited everyone was when she was safe. Nobody gave a fuck about Cavanaugh, lol (understandably, since she gave off major Reublicunt vibes).
Overall... I didn't love it, but I'll keep watching, at least for now.
by Anonymous | reply 187 | March 17, 2019 10:58 PM |
The Indian guy fled persecution in his home country while homosexuality was still criminalized, and is now understandably feeling like he can express himself freely. All of you bitching about him better be grateful you'll never have to go through that. And if you're a straight frau, you ought to be doubly ashamed of yourself.

KKK’s face looks like someone took Taylor Swift’s face, put it in a Cuisinart, and then smooshed it in a vice. I just can’t look at her, and her voice is no better.
I liked Renee’s design. Hester Kookypants is going to get really annoying really fast. Siriano was fine. The new set and workroom were an improvement. It may be a case of general reality competition show burnout.

Frankie's was hideous. Easily the worst of the night. Michael Kors wouldn't have given a fuck about her stupid tears and would've ripped her a new one for having absolutely no taste.
TBH, this would have been a great episode for a surprise double elimination. All that drama, then BAM. Both the crying mess and the bitch that played it safe get sent packing. Welcome to Project Runway.
by Anonymous | reply 191 | March 18, 2019 2:16 AM |
Frankie should have gone home. Not only was her look badly constructed, but she looked at a photo of a blue bathing suit and was inspired to create... a blue bathing suit. Where was the creativity?
by Anonymous | reply 192 | March 18, 2019 10:26 AM |
Cool of Karlie to do her part and fill the Kushner coffers so that Jared, Josh and their criminal dad would have more money to invest in more slum apartments to keep that cash flowing in.
Normally a pretty face is just a pretty face, but Karlie Kloss Kushner is helping to make a real difference in the world!
by Anonymous | reply 193 | March 18, 2019 10:38 AM |
Frankie’s outfit was by far the worse. Holy hell, who told her that was a good outfit??? Plus all the people who were helping her at the end??? Bullshit.
How the fuck do the designers not know he dimensions of their models??? The two at the bottom both made mistakes because the models were bigger. Don’t they get their sizes when they see who their model will be?
I hated that Kava-nope woman the minute she said she had never designed for a “larger” woman. And deservedly lost because of it.
That Frankie reminded me of that other stupid bitch. Silky whatever from RPDR.

by Anonymous | reply 207 | March 19, 2019 1:09 AM |
I totally thought they were setting up the villain for the season... especially since she could construct her garment well, despite it being dull. And EVERY quote out of her was so bitchy.
Frankie's bathing suit was a mess. They also said she picked an inappropriate fabric, right from the get go. Another contestant said she wasn't on the same level as the rest of the others, foreshadowing her going home (so I thought). I was surprised she stayed.
I actually liked the "goddess" dress that the trans had on, but that one was just safe. It'll be interesting to see what else he does. They focused on him a lot so perhaps he'll be around for a while.
by Anonymous | reply 208 | March 19, 2019 1:22 AM |
R208 In a normal season I think she would have been kept on as villian but I suspect that they would have felt that keeping a villian contestant over someone they gave a sympathy edit to would have been too much of a risk in the first episode of their revamped season. For us jaded old Project Runway viewers we know how this show works but newer viewers might have been made upset by the villian edit person making it through.
I felt Cavanagh was a goner as soon I saw that they included the sad story about her dad because at that point it seemed like the producers were milking her for all she's worth right before they let her go.
by Anonymous | reply 209 | March 19, 2019 1:53 AM |
Now, here's my question: When a contestant is eliminated must they leave the living arrangements and return home?
by Anonymous | reply 210 | March 19, 2019 1:55 AM |
So I didn't actually watch this for ages - the whole time it was on Lifetime. Drag Race had enough of the PR element in it to keep me happy too I guess. I didn't see the changes, but Tom and Lorenzo wrote a long thing about it that seems to go in line with the comments here.
Btw, the fact she was named Cavanagh was pretty funny. How can you be such a cunt like that on these shows and not realize people are going to hate you? The last time I remember a "snobby" sort of contestant - it was the one who said "upholstery fabric? Oh my. I only use higher quality fabrics..." and it was just his silly persona of being very special... but not a total bitch. Most people seemed to like him, and I thought he was entertaining (malan breton). This girl was just pure bitch. The only reason to cast her was to either let them have a villain or to kick her off.
by Anonymous | reply 211 | March 19, 2019 2:08 AM |
Regarding the Kushners. They are such materialistic douchebags that for them conservative and liberal are just business markets and business opportunities they use to make money off. These people don't believe in any kind of moral values. They believe in making money no matter what. They work different demographics to make more money for their company (or combined portofolio) instead of competing against each other fighting over "market share" by working the same group of customers / business people.
Regarding the BRAVO reboot of Project Runway. So far I just don't like it. Heidi had charm and was fun. Karlie is just fake. CS has no screen presence. There is no real authority or confidence in his mannerism. He's just around like some extra who is just walking into the set by accident and comes up with timid dialogue on the fly. However I do like the diverse casting and at first I like Karlie appreciating being on the show, but as soon it was obvious that she's completely over her head it became uncomfortable to watch her and, according to the preview, she's not around for long since she wasn't in any of the scenes of the "this season on PR" preview. Kapor is a bit much, or extra, but he does have a compelling backstory. I am a bit shocked that the show got rid of Cavenaugh right away. She was such a character you would love to hate. They should've put Frankie out of her misery who is clearly out of her element.

They're down to the final 5 and they have all won in previous seasons so these should not be idiots.
They were tasked with making a high end gown fit for a "royal ball?. They were given a larger than average dollar about for Mood.
Holy Shit! Every single one of them should've gone home.

R210 On reality competition shows the eliminated get moved out right away and usually they go to a different hotel or different section of the hotel for up to two weeks or sometimes until shooting is over. The footage I've seen of eliminated areas are hilarious because they all look so dejected. Producers do this to make it unclear what order people were eliminated in and so they can easily call back eliminated contestants for episodes or for those challenges where they get a chance to compete again. Since rules limit the amount of exposure contestants have to the outside world it's like being in limbo. On some competitions eliminated contestants are allowed to use that time to study but on Project Runway the rule used to be that you couldn't have any fashion related learning materials. I don't know if they have changed that rule.
There was an old episode of Project Runway that made me think they also make their eliminated contestants stay but I don't have any direct backstage knowledge of Project Runway. I just know how other reality shows work.
R214 Here is a thread about All stars I haven't watched that season yet but your comment makes me want to.
by Anonymous | reply 215 | March 19, 2019 4:30 AM |
I read somewhere that the eliminated designers are kept in the same hotel/apt space but totally isolated from the ones still in competition. They are sent on sightseeing tours so they're not just staring at the walls. Sometimes they're brought back as helpers for a challenge or to replace someone that had to drop out. Filming the entire show lasts for a month I think.
by Anonymous | reply 216 | March 19, 2019 11:00 AM |
On "Top Chef" the eliminated are kept around, and if there is a challenge where they are cooking for the public all of them come out and cook, too, so that people can't say later, "I went to this event and the six left were..."

The eliminated contestants are usually sequestered until the show finishes taping. That way there can be no spoilers from people spotting them back in their hometowns. Project runway is taped and not live.... so they don't want to give away he gets kicked out and in what order.

When the opening looks came out (the ones they made at home), there was some that I really liked but I can't seem to find pics of them anywhere.
by Anonymous | reply 223 | March 20, 2019 5:13 AM |
I guess their idea of a reboot was to be really cringey and try hard with the #Woke shit.
Half the episode was basically a penis measuring contest of who was the most victimized in their life. I want to root for someone because they have talent, not because they have the worst sob story.
The Lifetime season is better.

When can we expect to see the designers make gowns for the Countess LuAnn's next cabaret? How about a SkinnyGirl tie -in? New server outfits for Vanderpump? Gowns for the Giudice girls?

New episode tonight.
It looks interesting, like a hybrid of SyFy's Face Off meets Project Runway.
I love futuristic shit.

Should Christian be questioning their fabric choice at Mood? Did Tim do that? I've only watched a few seasons of PR, so I'm not sure how involved the mentor was in the fabric shopping.
He asked Hester like four times about her blue tulle. Seemed weird.
by Anonymous | reply 233 | March 22, 2019 12:14 AM |
What’s up with Christian’s hair? I don’t like him as a mentor. He should’ve been the designer judge.
Should Christian be questioning their fabric choice at Mood?
To me he should. So much of how the final look is going to be rests with the choice of fabric, I swear some designers have lost the challenge at mood. Isn't that part of the job of their mentor?

So happy for Sebastian. His design was simply beautiful and he completely deserved the win. Especially since he also had to help Tessa (not to mention put up with her attitude).
Glad Frankie went home and they didn't prolong our agony to have to endure her horrid designs. Lifetime would have kept her on for the "drama," but thankfully these judges are cutting the dead weight quickly.
Hester should be next. She's very annoying.
The out gays so far are only Kovid and Sebastian. Sebastian was asked in episode one if he was straight, and he said "NO!" His boyfriend is lucky, because he's very handsome. I was actually surprised that Afa is straight, because I didn't think that he was.
Simon Huck is damned hot! Thanks for posting the link to his Instagram.
Probably the weakest link in the show for me right now is the judges. I hate Karlie Kushner-Trump, Brandon is trying way too hard, and that Elaine lady seems like a fucking mega bitch. "There's no bossy, only boss lady." Fuck that shit.
Next week's challenge doesn't look nearly as interesting as this week's.
by Anonymous | reply 265 | March 22, 2019 11:12 AM |
Karlie Kloss doesn't even register to me. Does she speak? Christian also, very underwhelming.
I was prepared to like Hester because I like her personal style but with people who put SO much effort into their daily look, it doesn't mean they can translate that into designing for others. She can put together a good quirky look though. Unfortunately her chatter makes her annoying. She and the weepy guy will be voted off next.

Absolutely NOT! That's cheating. A good part of the judging is fabric choice, and that decision should solely rest with the designer, and NOT the mentor. Tim Gunn would never dream of helping a designer choose their fabric.
The final look absolutely rests with the fabric choice, and many designers have indeed lost because of it - for good reason. It speaks to their taste level and their choices as a designer. The mentor should have absolutely NO SAY in deciding the fabric a designer will use.

This episode made me cry. A lot of it has to do with all of the stresses of this current political environment and all of the hate that is being generated because of it.
I get the shows objective for diversity. At least in my own mind anyway. I cried because Covad, who is Muslim and gay, still believes so much in his religion that he dutifully does his morning prayers. I loved how that was just accepted in the apartment. The same can be said about Renee Hill who is Muslim herself and how she accepts all who are living with her. I smiled how one of the Black men was wearing a shirt with ducks on it and how comfortable he felt. It made me cry when the White woman was helping Covad fix his tie. And, then Nina spoke to Sebastian in Spanish. That was a tear jerker.
All different backgrounds, colors, and whatever else, that were getting along and who have genuine affection for each other. I know that I'm being silly but this episode just touched me in this way.
Anyway, I really like Renee Hill! I just love her attitude and maturity. She wears 51 quite well.
by Anonymous | reply 274 | March 22, 2019 1:39 PM |
Kovid is Muslim?! I thought that was a Hindu prayer or something. I think less of him now but then again, I think less of all religious gays.
I smiled how one of the Black men was wearing a shirt with ducks on it and how comfortable he felt.
Why? What's the meaning of ducks for black people? I agree about the diversity. Although, has this show really ever had a diversity problem? Aside from maybe the very early seasons, but that was ages ago.
by Anonymous | reply 275 | March 22, 2019 1:45 PM |
R274 thanks for the SJW report. There are too many contestants and the show is way too long. The diversity is also too forced and crammed down everyone’s throats. When Kovid, or whatever his name is, was going on and on about his love and respect for women I was just begging that all the judges would vote the annoyance off. Show him how people really are.

r283 If you honestly believe there is no message in any of those shows you mentioned, you really need to attend a Sociology 101 class.
Those shows are perpetuating everything that makes America American and I assure you they are as loaded with (alien) messages to me as a foreigner as any of my country's shows would be to you. You're just so accustomed and desensitized to those messages, you don't even register them as such anymore.
So it really is no coincidence that you're bitching only about those messages in this show that make [italic]you[/italic] feel uncomfortable, like diversity.

The designers of Project Runway aren't paid for appearing on the show. What is surprising: beloved mentor Tim Gunn wasn't actually paid anything for the show's first season, either. And by season two, he was only making $2,500 per episode, according to the New York Daily News.
by Anonymous | reply 296 | March 22, 2019 6:38 PM |

I'm with you, R274. It's very refreshing to see a cast that is reflective of our society. I think that the people who don't like it, are the type who would truly never like or appreciate diversity, if you know what I mean?
It's interesting that they're doing all of the filming in Brooklyn. Manhattan proper is even too expensive for PR.
I actually think it's a good move.
By filming in Brooklyn AND cutting the salaries of the judges, the show was able to make some nice upgrades to the stage, the workroom, the living quarters, and most of all the winner's prize money.
The winner actually wins $250,000 which is more than Lifetime was awarding.
I really do think that this new version of PR is focusing on rewarding the contestants more, and the highly-paid host/judges, less.
If this is truly the case, then I applaud Nina even more for taking a pay cut in order to benefit the contestants. Mega-rich Heidi was clearly not willing to do so.
by Anonymous | reply 303 | March 22, 2019 8:06 PM |
It's the sponsor who provides the $250K prize money, not the producers. They announce this at the top of each episode.
Christian and Brad were together forever, at least 10 years, before they got married. Their lives were very intertwined--financially, socially, etc.--so the split couldn't have been simple. Christian has only recently begun to show off his new piece on Instagram. The new guy is a muscly twink, of course. Good for him.

Not that it matters regardling the competition but I wonder if Sebastian has experience creating that dress. It just seemed to be a little “too realized” to have derived from a last-minute design idea. I’ll be curious to see if he can continue to dazzle in the coming weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 310 | March 22, 2019 10:19 PM |
R310, do you think that the designs are all original thoughts and never things that are versions of things they have already made before coming on the show?
by Anonymous | reply 311 | March 22, 2019 10:25 PM |
Okay, I've only seen the very first season of this show and bits and pieces of it in the following years. I'm more aware about Christian Soriano because of all of the publicity that he gets and his store is located in my neighborhood. I know about Jack Mackenroth because... well... It was from DL that I learned about Wendy Pepper's death. I enjoy reading about the show but I could never really follow it religiously. It had just lost something for me. It might be that no one (very few exceptions) ever became a breakout superstar designer. Of that list above, I'm only familiar with Christian.
But, this reboot has caught my attention for some reason. What I have noticed from reading some of the biographies is that the contestants seem to be much more professionally mature than past contestants. Sebastion, Cavanaugh, and Renee, just to name a few seemed to have already had somewhat of successful careers in the fashion industry. Maybe this makes a difference?
by Anonymous | reply 312 | March 22, 2019 10:40 PM |
The industry has changed as well. I'm not in the industry, and though it does seem like there are more designers than ever, in theory they have a more direct internet path to launching a collection independently.

by Anonymous | reply 324 | March 23, 2019 1:13 AM |
R274 Your intent with your post was sweet but I have to throw cold water on it. Kovid isn't muslim and that was most likely a hindu prayer. I could be wrong and it could be Bhuddist prayer but it really sounded more like a Hindu one to me. The pose he was doing was also different from muslim morning prayers but I didn't really pay much attention to it because nothing about Kovid reads as muslim to me even though I'm south asian. I just watched it again and definitely not a muslim prayer.
by Anonymous | reply 325 | March 23, 2019 1:20 AM |
Alright, folks! Thanks for the correction. I made a mistake. Renee is Muslim and Kovid is whatever. Anyway, that wasn't the point of my post. Whether it's Muslim, Hindu, Buddhism, or Snap, Crackle, and Pop! I like how all the differences are able to get along.

I for one make sure to mention the anti-gay angle every time someone on the show starts with the religious bullshit, be it Islam, evangelical Christianity (because you know the other kinds are usually quiet about their faith), or indeed Hinduism. After all, it was the right-wing Hindus who had been the most powerful players in blocking decriminalization of homosexuality in India for so many years.
Those who hate fat people should watch Shrill on Hulu; it was a real eye-opener for me. Though you'll have to suspend your disbelief and perceive them as people first, which might prove too tall an order for some of you.

I think it's very good to have a diverse cast with designers from all different backgrounds...but I think it's very annoying and patronizing when they constantly hit you over the head with "look how diverse and inclusive we are!!!" Like, Frankie was just a terrible designer but because of her whole "real women with curves" schtick, she was cast. The trans model is seriously unattractive (come on, Thailand is full of gorgeous ladyboys and they picked that one?). Just give us fucking fashion and fewer sob stories. That's all I want.

Do yourself, (and us), a favor and don't watch the show! The fat people aren't going anywhere and neither are the crying messes. If you miss those "good ole days" then go to YouTube and watch past seasons. SHEESH!

I agree r341, you can see how this chick uses her tears to gain sympathy. I was hoping they would be in the bottom, so the lady with dreads could throw her under the bus. The blue tulle chick is just getting started...how much camera time you think she’ll get this season?

After seeing her gorgeous design in E1, I was shocked with what Renee came up with in E2. Group challenges don't make sense. Wish they'd do away with them.
by Anonymous | reply 361 | March 23, 2019 7:20 PM |
Me too, R361. I was surprised by how badly constructed her design was. But, she was the best of her group! I have this vision that Renee would become the queen of the multi-purpose dress and that would be her niche-especially given her background with all of those kids that she has. Clothing that can go from an office daytime look to a sexy evening look. After her impressive first showing I was looking forward to seeing creations that could be used again and again as a fresh looks.
I think the group exercises are good. You can see how far a person will go for the team before considering their own survival. Renee's team was a mess. As she pointed out, there was no leader and they wasted too much time with Frankie's histronics. Compare that with Sebastian's team where Tessa tool control and had Sebastian basically make her whole entry. It seemed as if it only took him 5 minutes to make that purse but you can see that it really balanced the ensemble and made it pop. Yet, he had no purse for his own submission.
by Anonymous | reply 362 | March 23, 2019 7:46 PM |
Sebastian's a doll for doing that. Plus it shows the kind of person he is. He's one of the most experienced designers on the show and it looks like he's done it all yet he'll drop what he's doing and produce a handbag for another designer. And Tessa was just sitting there telling him to do this and that like little Miss Diva. I hope he wins.
I think it's very annoying and patronizing when they constantly hit you over the head with "look how diverse and inclusive we are!!!" Like, Frankie was just a terrible designer but because of her whole "real women with curves" schtick, she was cast.
I think that Frankie being saved had everything to do with that Elaine judge.
She's supremely annoying, and she basically admitted in episode two that she was the one who "pushed hard" to save Frankie, and after seeing Frankie's second design, she just couldn't comment.
That's why big-mouthed judges like Elaine "boss lady" should be fucking over-ruled. She thinks she knows it all, but Frankie proved her to be an idiot.

Yeah, I know, some idiots consider any woman that asserts herself to be bossy, but there IS such a thing as a woman (or man) being too domineering. There is a line and a person that crosses it is being bossy.

"Every Time Leslie Jones Wears Christian Siriano, Her Look Sells Like Crazy"
A few years ago, Leslie Jones went on Twitter to lament that no one wanted to dress her for the premiere of Ghostbusters. Quickly, Christian Siriano — a designer who has built his reputation and career on dressing all body types — swooped in and offered to dress the Saturday Night Live star in her dream gown, a Pretty Woman-esque off-the-shoulder red stunner.
Turns out, it became a highly coveted look.
“We’ve sold hundreds of that red gown,” Siriano tells PEOPLE when he stopped by our New York offices recently to discuss his support of the checkyoursweat.com campaign.
“Certain celebrities, when they wear clothes, people immediately want it,” says Siriano. “Our wildcard is when we dress Leslie.”
Perhaps it helps that every time the star, 51, wears one of his looks, she declares her love of the shape, fit, silhouette and color on social media. She’s as enthusiastic about her love of Siriano as she is about the Olympics or SNL co-star Colin Jost.
“She’s my hype woman,” says Siriano.
That goes for almost every time she’s worn clothes, including the blue jumpsuit to the Emmys in 2016, a blue suit for the Perfect Game 20th Anniversary bash and a white tuxedo mini to the Time 100 Gala in April.
“I just feel amazing,” she cheered on Instagram.
Most recently, she wore an iridescent suit to the Emmys in September. Jones boasted about her look on social media again. “Man I looked good giving @iamreginaking her Emmy!!”
Behind the scenes, it was a stressful moment: He fit her in the look the night before his New York Fashion Week show, at a point when he was incredibly busy. But he did not hesitate to help her — and the look became an instant hit with women who asked to score the shimmery design for themselves.
While Jones is talented at hyping the designer, the clothes themselves are what really speak to people, he notes.
“I think people really resonate with seeing different people on the runway or different people on the red carpet that look more like them,” he says. “You have to put things in people’s face for them to get it sometimes.”
“I hated when people said, ‘you only make clothes for this certain person.’ I’m like, well that’s just not true,” he continues. “So, you have to put it in their face, and what I’ve been trying to do, so that the customer understands that she can buy any size we have available.” (Siriano carries up to size 28.)
Another thing he’s putting in people’s face: Sweating.
He teamed up with Dermira to launch checkyoursweat.com, a destination to help people to feel better about hyperhidrosis. On the site, he provides tips to deal with sweat when choosing looks.
“This is a real medical condition, and a lot of people struggle with it,” he says. “I’ve dressed so many people, and it can be a really hard thing for people. They won’t wear something, they don’t want to go to an event. I want to say that it’s not this horrible thing that you can’t live your life on.”
The secret, he says, is choosing styles and fabrics that are better suited to potential sweat breakouts, like a pretty print or cotton and linen.
“I remember dressing Angela Bassett and the sweating showed,” he says of Bassett’s yellow cape silk gown for the 2016 Emmy Awards. “I wish I would have known, because I could have guided her in a different direction.”
Ultimately, whether it’s tackling sweat challenges or flaunting your shape, his grand goal is to help women to feel fabulous.
“No matter who you are, you can still have fun with fashion,” he says. “It goes back to my whole idea of supporting all different types of people and trying to make themselves feel great about themselves. We just want to make people feel good.”

The "all shapes and sizes" idea was probably Christian's.
So stop whining about it.
Christian Siriano's Message on the Runway: "People Are People"
The designer made his own political statement during his presentation.
If there's one thing we know about Christian Siriano, it's that he's a designer for all people. And for his latest runway show, held at the Plaza Hotel's Grand Ballroom, he made that message clear.
In a sea of shimmery bronze gowns, cut-out velvet dresses and tassel-embellished styles from his rich fall 2017 collection, there was one standout: a black T-shirt that read in white font "People Are People," paired with a pink satin, thigh-high slit skirt. The look, worn by model Jasmine Poulton, received loud cheers from guests attending the show, including Alicia Silverstone, Morena Baccarin, Danielle Brooks, Samira Wiley, Juliette Lewis, Alexa Chung and Coco Rocha.
"I just felt like it was nice to end the show on a little bit of a cleansing idea," Siriano told The Hollywood Reporter backstage post-show. "People are people, we should all be celebrated in our own way. It's very simple. It’s not that hard to do and I think that that's what it was about."
Though the finale was set to Depeche Mode's "People Are People," Siriano said the T-shirt slogan wasn't inspired by the 1984 hit. "But it made sense," he said.
"We were trying to figure out what politically we wanted to say, because I didn't really want to be political," he explained. "[The shirt] is about human rights. It's not about politics, it's about supporting everyone. That’s what I thought was important," he said.
Siriano's husband, Brad Walsh, later tweeted that he was the one who designed the tee, and that 100 percent of proceeds will be donated to the ACLU.
"I love the fact that he knows the importance of representation. He understands that all women should be seen and deserve to be dressed and feel beautiful," Orange Is the New Black star Brooks told The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm grateful that he's allowed me to be his muse for Lane Bryant and the fact that I get to sit first row at his show. I'm just very honored." Siriano collaborated with Lane Bryant on a plus-size collection last year.
Baccarin, who wore Siriano's design for the first time while attending the presentation, told THR that "it's really rare that you have a designer that can combine modernity and also classic style with many silhouettes that work for many women, not just one."
Asked how she's coping with today's political climate, Baccarain noted, "I think it's important for people to check their facts and not just be mean because that doesn't help. We just all have to stay in control and do what helps."
One thing that helps? Finding an escape with fashion, beauty and the arts.
"We're sitting here watching fashion, watching all this beautiful work that we create. You should take yourself out!" Siriano exclaimed. "There’s enough hate going on in the world." Preach.

The thing about using different sized models is that it makes it about the woman and not the clothes. It’s all well and good when designing for a living, but in a design competition the models should be of a similar frame size so as to fade to the status of mannequin and allow the fashion to the fore. Fashion should be for all, but larger frames often don’t show fashion to its best advantage.

So why didn’t they just get someone more experienced in that role, instead of CS? Just because someone’s talented doesn’t mean they’re a great communicator, or able to impart or analyze anything. Or be inspirational.
CS seems to lack the “people person” aspect needed for all that.

A TV reality game show needs new twists to stay fresh. Not all shows can stay the same like, say, Jeopardy.
Different sized models is about creating a new image branding for the modeling and fashion industry as much as for the game show format.

Well one thing they could do is STOP with all the jump cuts and weird angles during the runway. They've given the designers more time to work, give us more time to see the finished garment. By the time the "safes" are dismissed, I've forgotten what their designs looked like; I just know that one or more should have been in the top or bottom. I think that the judges made a mistake and what they were doing was giving Frankie a chance because she stated that her whole mission was to design for plus-sized women. But, they were woefully disappointed by her skill set. I believe that one judge told her that she couldn't even drape properly. It simply was a blown judgement call that came at the expense of Cavanaugh.

There was that, but I also think that production was responsible for Frankie screwing up.
She kept going on and on about not knowing her model's measurements until she showed up for her fitting, and they never quite explained that.
It was always my understanding that the designers were given the model's measurements beforehand, but I guess that's not the case. When Frankie's model finally came in, she realized that she had designed the suit too short and too small, and that's why she had to put together a patchwork of sorts, to make up the difference in size between the swimsuit and the model.
In the end, I think that production fucked that one up, and I think that they felt responsible, which is why she was saved. It was also clear that the idiot judge "boss lady" Elaine (by her own admission) "pushed hard" for Frankie to stay, so I think that it was a combination of reasons for why she didn't get booted.
Nevertheless, Cavanagh was fucked over. She designed a perfectly good outfit, and compared to Frankie's, she never should have gone home.

by Anonymous | reply 417 | March 25, 2019 4:27 PM |
R406 I’m not going to get into your damage about plus-sized models. They’re putting plus sized models on the cover of fashion magazines. It’s the latest fad and you are going to have to deal with it. As for Frankie, Tom and Lorenzo put it best. Cavanugh went home because she made a basic, boring dress and they thought Frankie had more in her. She didn’t and they rightly tossed her aside this week. If this were Lifetime, she would still be there.
by Anonymous | reply 418 | March 25, 2019 4:33 PM |
I thought they would have kept Cavenaugh on for longer, because she made such a great villain with her snotty attitude. The producers were idiots for not keeping her "safe" in the judging part.

R411 Austin Scarlett designs wedding gowns. I loved him on PJ and wish he hadn’t gone home for a bathing suit.
by Anonymous | reply 420 | March 25, 2019 5:17 PM |
Frankie said something about the model being much taller than the mannequin which suggests she made the mistake of ignoring the measurements and/or thinking her mannequin was customized for her model. Given her performance—what was she doing on the show?

They all fell for the promise of designs that would prioritize the plus sized woman.
Austin Scarlett designs wedding gowns.
And, that's my point. Vera Wang designs wedding gowns. That's how she made her mark anyway. She's an international designer. Austin? Or, maybe he is much more known than I'm aware of.
OH! Isn't this a cute little frock!
I think the show feels fresh and I think it was smart to wash the Lifetime stink off of it and just do some things differently. The show actually feels like it's about fashion again.
I agree. I think it has been a successful update, my problem is the level of skill hasn't quite blown me away. There has been a lot of crappy stuff every runway and very few great pieces. But I guess that is often the case.
by Anonymous | reply 426 | March 25, 2019 10:00 PM |
“Well one thing they could do is STOP with all the jump cuts and weird angles during the runway. They've given the designers more time to work, give us more time to see the finished garment”
In total agreement. And the shitty music that accompanies the convulsion inducing cuts.
by Anonymous | reply 427 | March 25, 2019 10:09 PM |
Look at Top Chef. It has remained on Bravo and it has remained a quality production, even when they tried to liven the show up with a few gimmicks. The problem with PR is that when it left Bravo and Magical Elves it seriously went down hill. They lost the connection to the fashion world. They stopped getting top designers and people connected to fashion. These people weren't selling to the Lifetime demo.
The show is now back where it belongs and it has to rebuild itself. It has to get back a lot of people who stopped watching when it went to Lifetime. I have nothing against JCPenney, but it's not high fashion. And they are clearly rebuilding the show through stories and what inspires designers, sort of like the first season. And they also playing heavy into diversity and different body types, which is big in fashion right now.
I'm giving the show a B. Hopefully by the end of the season it will have risen to a B+.

That is a darling frock at R423.
"Were given the model's measurements" , we don't know how detailed they are. Hopefully it's more than bust/waist/hip and height. Should include shoulder-wrist, upper arm circumference, pant rise, inseam, and a dozen more. Frankie had the shoulder-waist measurement wrong on her bathing suit. I think this was on her.
by Anonymous | reply 429 | March 25, 2019 10:39 PM |
When they went to examine the “bathing suit” and one of the straps came off in their hand, that should’ve sent her home. But no, that wasn’t enough to overcome the pity fest that episode was....how is that new and fresh and un-Lifetime?
by Anonymous | reply 430 | March 25, 2019 11:15 PM |
R423, yes, it is a darling frock. I think he was better known right after PR, but when my niece got married, one of his dresses made the short list for either the church or the reception dress.

by Anonymous | reply 432 | March 26, 2019 12:51 AM |
R430 That's what I keep wondering about. I fail to see how this version of Project Runway is actually different. Even the flash sale challenges that kept mentioning as something new would happen occasionally on old project runway. It's annoying that they keep pushing this narrative that this is all new and different when it's not like they think if they repeat it enough that we'll all believe it.
It's sad that apparently they couldn't think of new ways to actually make it different.
by Anonymous | reply 433 | March 26, 2019 1:17 AM |
It seems like a pretty seamless transition, no pun intended, to the new show.
I agree that Cavanaugh should have stayed a little longer if only to make watching her leave that much sweeter. She and Frankie had essentially the same problem... they measured wrong. But Cavanaugh was such a snobby little bitch with all her talk about single beds in Paris and her cracks about the other designers. I was truly shocked when she turned out to be a fraud who couldn't even cut and sew a decent garment.
When they went to examine the “bathing suit” and one of the straps came off in their hand, that should’ve sent her home.
BINGO!
Also, what was that when she had like 5 other designers sewing the bathing suit with only minutes til the girl would walk down the runway? That act alone is something that I thought would get her eliminated.
by Anonymous | reply 435 | March 26, 2019 2:09 AM |
I think they want more tension and drama between designers ala season 1. The whole blue tule thing was ridiculous. I would not let one person spend that much of my money. Then the dress with the arms pinned back? horrible.

The attitude on Nadine, and then implying her model was a mare with that "she gallops" comment. I think she got progressively more bitter, seeing other contestants who are old enough to be her kids doing better than her, and also judging her - everyone on that panel except for Nina was relatively young, which might have set her off.
Speaking of judges, that pornstache denim guy with the boots for shoveling crap in the stables is the newest addition to my irrational hatred list. Fuck, I want to inflict homo-on-homo violence on him so bad.

Bishme should have been in the top 3.
His outfit had the WOW factor, and there's a reason the producers used it to open the show. You always start and finish the runway, with the strongest designs.

I just watched the whole episode. I think a lot of the bad feeling regarding Nadine had to do with the editing. She said at the top of the show that she missed her family and especially her boys. It seems that the living arrangements had finally gotten to her. She complained about needing a clean kitchen and doing the dishes every night. Uhm... where's the dishwasher? Anyway, she needed to do this competition in order to learn what she didn't like. She shouldn't have done this competition because she just can't cut it.
Frankie would have NEVER made it through this competition.

It's true. The living arrangements are different with this version of PR because in the old days, males and females were separated, and there was no kitchen. They were in smaller living groups of four to six people, which was probably less stressful than living with 16 other people. It must be chaos.
Not only that, but the show is suited to younger people who can handle the pressure. People in their 40's and 50's just have no more patience for living in a dorm-like setting, much less being put under intense competition and time constraints.
I'm not saying that Nadine wouldn't be a bitch normally, but her whole "I'm over it" attitude is perfectly understandable.
However, Renee and the other older lady seem to be handling it well.
I'm not saying that Nadine wouldn't be a bitch normally, but her whole "I'm over it" attitude is perfectly understandable.
It is understandable. As I wrote earlier: "she needed to do this competition in order to learn what she didn't like. She shouldn't have done this competition because she just can't cut it."
What I'm seeing is that it REALLY is a good mix of those who truly have the talent to be designers versus dress makers versus those who just like to sew (Frankie). Sebastian is off the charts but they may be setting him up to be the Kara Saun of this season. EVERYONE just KNEW that Kara Saun was going to win season one. But, she made a fatal mistake and the win went to Jay McCarroll--what happened to him...
Sebastian is EXCELLENT (in my opinion) and what he needs is a year or two working with an established house like a Ralph Lauren, Carolina Herrera, or someone on that level, to give him the business foundation to strike out on his own.
by Anonymous | reply 528 | March 30, 2019 5:20 PM |
I agree with R524. Garo's look was well constructed. Imagine those leggings in the context of athleisure. They'd be very hip.

He knows better. When a woman says that she is done--ESPECIALLY a Black woman, you leave them alone. You let them be and don't push it. Christian has been around the block.

It is so nice to see this show be about design again with real designers and not reality show contestants looking for camera time. I get why Hester won, but Sebastian's look was everything. And how many of you eldergays totally got where Nadine was coming from. I think some unseen force in the universe turns on a no time for bullshit switch after we all turn 45.
Two criticisms:
1) In theory, I have nothing against plus sized models. But I think the models should all be the same size. What I'm about to say is not nice or okay, but the designers with the plus sized models outfits don't look as good. I think they should either go to a plus sized model challenge or every other week use plus sized models for everyone. And I'm saying this as a one time plus sized man who was always screaming about the clothing selection. I know it's on trend and we're all celebrating curves now, but there is a difference and it shows.
2) This show really doesn't need to be 90 minutes.
And how many of you eldergays totally got where Nadine was coming from. I think some unseen force in the universe turns on a no time for bullshit switch after we all turn 45.
She has different priorities. These are priorities of which she may not even have realized. She loves and missed her family. She doesn't have the "fire in the belly" to be a top internationally recognized fashion designer. Her demeanor is something that will work quite well on a local level. She'll be fine.
but the designers with the plus sized models outfits don't look as good.
But, isn't that the challenge? I think one of the reasons for Christian Soriano's success is that he will design and dress any shape woman. Big women, (and men), love fashion and want to be/feel beautiful too. They don't want to feel as if they are an afterthought--A size 18 being fitted for a design that looks great on a size 2,
by Anonymous | reply 532 | March 30, 2019 6:13 PM |
I have voiced criticism of using various sized models upthread, and think r531’s suggestion of having all the designers use plus sized models for every other week would be much better than what they do now. I disagree with him that the show is all about design now, as I see it as a big crybaby, sob story, kumbaya fest. If they didn’t have the excellent Sebastian, this show would be a design nothingburger...
by Anonymous | reply 533 | March 30, 2019 6:32 PM |
I didn't get the critique of Garo's design (it wasn't my aesthetic, but someone would wear that, especially as it was impeccably made). We were also a bit WTF at the hyper praise of Hester's design, which was a bit of overkill in a very safe pattern.
But, all in all, ok with the judging this season, and loving y'all, my bitches, for bringing the sharp critique every week. Runway may never truly be glorious again, but these first three weeks have been more fun because of you cranky vipers!
by Anonymous | reply 534 | March 30, 2019 6:42 PM |
I think that Hester is this season's Kenley Collins.
The way that they're focusing on her so much, I'm guessing that she'll make it to the finale.

Why is everyone covering up their shoes with fabric now?
by Anonymous | reply 536 | March 30, 2019 6:48 PM |
To the poster who referenced Kara Saun, she turned out to be a cheater and a hypocrite....and Hester’s look was more gimmick than high design. Sebastian’s designs have been the best all three episodes, so I’m sure he’ll somehow be derailed for the sake of reality drama
by Anonymous | reply 537 | March 30, 2019 7:15 PM |

how was kara saun a cheater?

I can definitely see Sebastian being plucked by one of the big design houses after the show finishes. Not only is he talented, he's also humble and kind, all the qualities needed for a blazing success.

I think that Sebastian is his real name from his South American heritage, but Could Grey possibly be his married name? I see a wedding band on his finger.

And, I only agree with this because I want him to REALLY learn the business of fashion rather than just the creative aspects of it. 17 seasons of Project Runway and the only breakout star has been Christian Siriano? C'mon now! I don't know how this program and contestants are viewed in the fashion industry but in my mind this is a once in a lifetime opportunity! This Sebastian guy has "IT" and what a story he has to tell! An immigrant housekeeper that becomes a world-renowned name? The potential here!

It did take me by surprise that on an all winners season you still got a sob story of one of them struggling financially in a really bad way. How far back was Michelle's win?
How far back was Michelle's win?
In 2013. 100k after taxes can go surprisingly fast, and making money as a independent designer in fashion is very hard. Why do you think all these previous winners have returned to Runway? They need the money.

By the way that she was carrying on morning, noon and night, I get the feeling that we only saw a sliver of Nadine’s stank attitude. She was probably a nightmare.
by Anonymous | reply 557 | March 31, 2019 8:29 AM |
I loved how Nadine lashed out at Hester and told her to get back to work when Tessa was trying to distract her during the group challenge.
Loved it!

by Anonymous | reply 559 | March 31, 2019 9:02 AM |
I loved that too, r558. Both of those gals deserved that and more. Tessa’s win in the first week seems to have brought out her inner bitch, and Hester’s behavior during that challenge was inexcusable, from her insistence at Mood to her begging for fabric that she cut up and didn’t use. I can’t stand either of them...
by Anonymous | reply 560 | March 31, 2019 1:47 PM |
I'm liking this season more with each episode. Thank god for Sebastian - it's so refreshing to have someone to root for who is both talented and hot AF! They gave Hester a sympathy edit but I'm still not a fan of her as a person. You dress like a toddler and then wonder why people find you and your designs strange? Maybe it's actually just your neurotic, high-strung personality! I did like her outfit better than Kovid's though. Why the hell would anyone wear a mask like that? I've hated everything he's made so far and he needs to tone the "giddy schoolgirl" act way, way down.
I actually liked Garo's outfit, glad he will stick around. At least he has an interesting point of view. I don't know why retro is ok for some designers but an 80s-inspired look is so terrible?
Nadine brought the drama and they didn't keep her around longer than necessary - that's the best kind of villain, in my book.
Finally, about this stylist, Marni...I don't get her personal aesthetic at all, and find her taste suspect. But she seems like a kind and positive person. Did I understand it right that she will visit the workroom for some of the other challenges as well?
by Anonymous | reply 561 | March 31, 2019 2:12 PM |
Why the hell would anyone wear a mask like that?
Pollution.
by Anonymous | reply 562 | March 31, 2019 2:20 PM |
The designers should style their own looks
by Anonymous | reply 563 | March 31, 2019 2:24 PM |
r562 Except those masks don't do shit against pollution as most polluting particles are so small, they pass easily through the cloth. It's just a placebo thing and they're weird people. When I asked someone familiar with their culture why they wear masks, they said it's because they're sick and they don't want to pass sickness to others out of politeness. Which is obvious bullshit as well, because it would mean half the country is constantly sick.
It's just one of those extra weird cultural idiosyncrasies, like gun worship in the US.
by Anonymous | reply 564 | March 31, 2019 2:38 PM |
I think some of those masks are effective a removing pollutants..if you've ever been to China or Thailand you kind of understand their delusion. It makes them feel better. However I still hated Kovid's mask and I hate they way he is being featured...it is such a pander to think we will just love Kovid's exuberance!
by Anonymous | reply 565 | March 31, 2019 3:03 PM |
The challenge was about making an editorial look, not a ready to wear look. That mask was a smart addition.
by Anonymous | reply 566 | March 31, 2019 3:04 PM |
In Asia people wear masks for either pollution or some scary pandemic like chicken flu. Whether they actually work or not is beside the point when it's more about making the public believe that wearing a mask keeps them save.

Christian said that Beyoncé’s stylist (barf) is going to stick around. So I guess we’ll see more face masks and fanny packs.
by Anonymous | reply 569 | March 31, 2019 3:11 PM |
Kovid's mask would have worked better visually with some better fitted elastic band or a boning structure (giving it better shape) making it look more professional instead of a flimsy cloth or napkin. But then what can you expect in one day? The idea itself was genius through for an editorial look.
by Anonymous | reply 570 | March 31, 2019 3:13 PM |
At least the mask drew the eye away from that mess of a garment! I'm still waiting for Kovid to impress. Seriously, it may be "editorial" but would anyone buy that massive plaid atrocity?

by Anonymous | reply 572 | March 31, 2019 3:20 PM |
Yeah, the fanny pack, as styling choice, bothered me more than the mask. I was like WTF? Why the hell was this on the accessory wall in the first place? Is Bravo even frau-ier than Lifetime?

I suppose it's not good. A dated article, but....
Former Project Runway contestants always seem to try to distance themselves from the show after they go out into the world on their own. Christian Siriano has been dealing with Project Runway demons for years, and Rami Kashou, who was on the show twice (and most recently ousted on the Project Runway All-Stars season) told us: "But it’s a game show, it’s nothing more to me. It’s produced." And according to fashion industry insiders, if you want a career as a fashion designer, you'd best distance yourself from reality TV fashion, too.
by Anonymous | reply 580 | March 31, 2019 7:18 PM |
That stylist seems like a nice person but I would have no use for her. Loathe that beyond person so whatever.
She actually shouldn’t be helping them to style, the styling makes or breaks an outfit sometimes and we need to see what the designers‘ aesthetic is.
That picnic outfit was a monstrosity. Sebastian should have won again.
Notice, too, that this is the second designer that goes home because they had a “plus” sized model. The rest need to get a clue that these models are here to stay and that, yes, indeed, you need to work with all types of bodies, like it or not.
by Anonymous | reply 581 | March 31, 2019 7:29 PM |
The mask was not genius. If it was, it was Marni Senofonte's genius. It was her idea. I'm with R570. It needed more structure. It was too big, it was strangely shaped and not in a good way. Though I thought Kovid used his print very successfully.
Sebastian should have won again. Hester even gave her model one of her dumb hats. It's like they gave it to Hester because they can't have one person so obviously out front this early on.
by Anonymous | reply 582 | March 31, 2019 7:32 PM |
Yeah, if this were a 100% legit competition based only on the judges' opinion of fashion, it would certainly be theoretically possible for the same person to win week after week right from the start until the end, but you're never going to see that on a show that has a reality show element to it.
And if you don't believe me that there is funny business going on with these shows (not that anyone here is that naive), here is the disclaimer that appears at the end of each episode:
"Winning and elimination decisions were made by the Judges in consultation with the producers. Some elimination decisions were discussed with Bravo."
by Anonymous | reply 583 | April 1, 2019 2:43 AM |
Yes, every reality show has the same disclaimer.
Amusingly enough for some Project Runway trivia, the two designers who won the most challenges in a season did not win their season.
Both Daniel V and Emilio won 5 episodes each, but lost at Fashion Week.
by Anonymous | reply 584 | April 1, 2019 2:48 AM |
Oh, yes, everyone does it, 584. Didn't mean to suggest Bravo competition shows were somehow unique in that regard. But people do have to keep in mind that producer influence is a possibility. You can't take these shows too seriously.
by Anonymous | reply 585 | April 1, 2019 2:59 AM |
Tim Gunn never actually touched the design and gave advice on specifically what to do. This week, that Marni was totally hands on. That's not fair and should be eliminated. Let the designers figure out their own design problems.
by Anonymous | reply 586 | April 1, 2019 3:07 AM |
R586 I felt the same way about that bit at mood where Christian told Rakan not to use that fabric. Though it didn't really change anything since he decided to buy it anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 587 | April 1, 2019 4:18 AM |
R587 I agree. Christian also warned that team that they had too much blue, and that it looked too bridesmaid. Still, they purchased blue. At that moment, I thought he was overstepping.
by Anonymous | reply 588 | April 1, 2019 4:46 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 589 | April 1, 2019 4:50 AM |
Christian only won because of producer intervention. During his season, the prom dress challenge should have sent him home but they picked someone else whose dress wasn't nearly as bad.

R547, the comforter was designed by Jamal (the OTHER puffy brown guy), not Afa. So far, he’s been lackluster, while Afa has stood out.
Tim Gunn never actually touched the design and gave advice on specifically what to do.
Because he couldn't. Tim may have been in that world at one point, but he was a relic. He could not give advice because he didn't know what advice to give. I love me some Tim, but no one who wanted to win ever listened to him. Christian and Marni can actually look at a piece and explain why it's not working because they know what's going on with fashion.
by Anonymous | reply 592 | April 1, 2019 2:16 PM |
I stopped watching when the show went to Lifetime. I'm glad that they got rid of the model competition aspect from the early seasons since that never made any sense to me. Although it did crack me up when Heidi would say, "This models, also, for you, is a competition for you as well, too!"
I also like that we get to see the judges do an up-close, hands-on inspection of the garments before making their decision. I don't recall them doing that on camera back when Christian was a competitor.
by Anonymous | reply 593 | April 1, 2019 2:20 PM |
What do we have to do to get hot makeup daddy Scott Patric back on Bravo?
by Anonymous | reply 594 | April 1, 2019 2:23 PM |
r593 they have been doing that for years on lifetime. They would send the designers away and look at the models up close. I always enjoyed Heidi looking at a shitty job and going "it looks home sewn"
by Anonymous | reply 595 | April 1, 2019 2:41 PM |
The looking at the designs up close started when Posen came on as a judge. He started doing that which Gunn thought was unfair since the designers were unaware it was happening, so they compromised and made it an official part of the show so the designers would be prepared that it will happen.
by Anonymous | reply 596 | April 1, 2019 2:43 PM |
Zac was so useless and dull. I'm not exactly a fan of Brandon either, but at least he doesn't put me to sleep. For the last few seasons of Lifetime, I would zone out about halfway through and never finish watching.

R586
You're an idiot & ageist. Just because someone's older doesn't mean they're out of touch. Many of the biggest names in fashion are older than 50.
Age does not keep someone from knowing not only where fashion came from but also where it's going.
by Anonymous | reply 598 | April 1, 2019 4:15 PM |
Tim's mentor ship role was to either help the designer to calm the fuck down or, for ratings, to doubt himself (and go into a different direction with not much time left). He rarely gave actual advice about which fabric to use and where to use it in the design.
A good mentor gives you "You may not believe in yourself right now, but I believe in you!" or "do you really think this is the right direction to go with this?" "You be you, stand by what you create!", "just be prepared for the judges will have a lot of questions for you (and very likely not like your design)".
