Okay, yeah... I'm sure its pretty non existent... But anyone from etc the areas, whats it like for a gay man? meeting? hooking up? Night life? Fun things to do? lol I'm sure not much.
Twentynine Palms, Joshua Tree, gay scene?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 17, 2019 10:31 PM |
Sorry this is Twentynine Palms California, Joshua Tree California... in case no one has ever heard of them :( Which I'm sure is the case.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 3, 2019 5:04 PM |
That whole area is so damn creepy.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 3, 2019 5:12 PM |
Maybe servicing some marines at a truckstop.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 3, 2019 5:15 PM |
Are you going to be stationed there? There's not much - I think the biggest attraction outside of Joshua Tree is the Denny's or the new casino. I was just there a few weeks ago.
The base isn't bad though - it's pretty big and some stuff to do (movie theater, bars, etc.). Outside of the base? Tattoo parlors and run-down food joints.
There was a service through the USO to pick up marines and drive them to Palm Springs a couple of years ago, but not sure if that's still working. I'm presuming you're going to be stationed there, right? Because otherwise, there's no great reason to live there.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 3, 2019 5:20 PM |
r4 Yeah no not a marine. Going to stay with my aunt for awhile as she recovers from hip surgery for awhile. I'm into hiking, nature, so I'm sure there is places to do that. Was curious about the gay scene, etc. sighs....
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 3, 2019 5:23 PM |
There's just not much out there except vast, endless desert. National parks do tend to attract a certain type of outdoors, camping gay, but good luck getting phone reception for any type of hookup app.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 3, 2019 5:25 PM |
You’re less than an hour from Palm Springs.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 3, 2019 5:26 PM |
Yeah, seems bleak. Found the Walmart Super Center, a movie theater with 4 screens. Some health food organic places, a farmers market in Joshua tree on Saturdays.... le sigh.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 3, 2019 5:28 PM |
Well - there's Pioneertown. Not too far away. Pappy and Harriet's is a fun place - was there a couple of months ago.
Also, you can take the back way up 247 to Big Bear for downhill skiiing. Other than that - yes, it's about 50 minute drive to Palm Springs.
But I'm sure there are gays up that way - particularly at the base. You could be the belle of the ball!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 3, 2019 5:38 PM |
r9 thanks :) But I thought the base is only for marines etc. Not general public? That pioneer town looks fun :) thanks.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 3, 2019 5:46 PM |
Yeah - the base is closed to civilians. My bf was a high commander in the military and retired a few years ago, so we have access to all the military bases. Not that we hang out there, but the P/X has some good stuff once and awhile. That's the only reason we go.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 3, 2019 5:49 PM |
Where are you coming from and how long will you be there?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 3, 2019 5:52 PM |
Hon, you'll get all the hot marine cock !
During the shutdown I posted here there were outdoor orgies going on Joshua Tree National Park.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 3, 2019 5:52 PM |
r11, ah I see. I figured. r12 I'm coming from Los Angeles... Will be there awhile, a few months or longer depending on how well my aunt recovers. r13 very interesting haha. But where do the Marines go cruising? Just standing around Joshua Tree? lol
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 3, 2019 5:59 PM |
How old are you? There are some other options, but it's not for everyone. You've obviously been to PS if you're from LA.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 3, 2019 6:02 PM |
r15 34 yrs. Nope never been to PS.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 3, 2019 6:03 PM |
Never been to PS? Ok - well, then you'll be going there a lot. You can get an airbnb for a night or two.
Can't believe you haven't been to PS and you're only 90 minutes away. It's great.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 3, 2019 6:42 PM |
r18 Im in LA, I will be going to 29Palms this week :) But have to stay close to home, as Im helping me aunt, but I'm sure I can find some time to go to PS.

I have a gay friend who lives in a retirement community in Yucca Valley, which is sort of in between Palm Springs and Twentynine Palms. I've never been there, but it sounds like there's not much going on and they have to go into the Coachella Valley for just about everything.

user feedback to the seminal article "The Coming War: A Military Doctor's Field Guide To Masturbating In Afghanistan":
[quote] We always set up a couple cots, some cammo netting, and a library of porn for our spank-shacks in 29 palms. Whenever anyone went for a visit, they had to endure the entire FDC singing "Spank-shack bay-ay-bee!" to the tune of B-52's "love shack" at their back as they trudged out there.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 3, 2019 6:47 PM |
R20 - Yucca Valley isn't bad. There's a decent amount of shopping and some nice houses - but it's definitely middle class. The rest of the area is lower middle class or upper lower class.

more info on 29 palms from the same source:
[quote] Oh fond memories indeed... We weren't even deployed, we were at a summer CAX in 29 Palms when this happened: One of the bigger tools in the unit, no pun intended, would go to the port-a-john every morning with a bottle of lotion and a couple porn mags. One morning when he was sleeping because he had watch the night before about 8 or so other dudes stole his lotion and essentially gang raped it... Talk about disgusting. The next morning, the unsuspecting Lance corporal walked proudly to the port-a-john and took care of business, lol... HE NEVER FOUND OUT!!! This is scenario number #10, I think we can all agree.

r23, Im not in the military I wont be on base.. or in a war zone.

Sean Cody’s “Daniel” was living out that way from some reason or other. Not sure he’s still around.

by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 3, 2019 11:37 PM |
Natural Sisters Cafè in Joshua Tree has the best vegetarian food I’ve ever had. I haven’t had much to compare it to, but it was really good.

r28 thanks. Looks yum :)

George: Gracie asked to borrow your car? Don't let her, she's a horrible driver, why when we went to Twentyeight Palms
Bill Goodwin: You mean Twentynine Palms
George: Not after Gracie drove through it.

any cruising spots ? lol Just walking down the desert highway flashing some leg? lol
by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 4, 2019 2:19 PM |
Oddly enough, Joshua Tree is becoming a hot spot for people with autism spectrum disorders to buy cheap houses. I know a number of people in the autism community who've settled there.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 4, 2019 2:21 PM |
r32 are they hot? hehe jk

I worked as a civilian at 29 Palms (navy - medical) over 10 years ago. I lived in Palm Springs but would stay 2-3 nights in 29 Palms at a house where I rented a room .- the owner was on disability. That area is a haven for folks on disability who can't afford Palm Springs/low desert. It is high desert and gets quite cold in winter. Meth was a big problem all over that area, and I observed some crazy looking people roaming around. There is nothing up there apart from the park. It is a strange, desolate place. The marines all head to Cathedral City to straight clubs, and some used to go to Tijuana (don't know if that was allowed). The marines are very heavy drinkers, and that is, in general, their favorite past time.

Your best bet is Palm Springs, or to join up with gay meetups doing things in the desert area.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 4, 2019 11:47 PM |
Twentynine Palms gave me a rare case of the heebie-jeebies. Everyone on the street seemed off, crushed in spirit or on drugs.
My advice is to spend as much time with your aunt as you need to, and drive an hour to Palm Springs if you need to get away from her and her home. And to start looking for a new place for her to live.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 4, 2019 11:56 PM |
I agree that Twentynine Palms seems off. A mixture of military, bikers, and druggies. Not my vibe.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 5, 2019 12:04 AM |
Suck marine dick.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 5, 2019 6:49 AM |
r38 Where do you suck Marine dick at? lol cruising areas? or just randomly approach... Excuse me, can I ? lol
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 5, 2019 11:51 AM |
Hmm also the aunt who I am going to help take care of is an artist, there is a small artist community there she has said... So it cannot be all meth and wayward souls. :)

R30
Male chauvinism at its worst
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 5, 2019 1:11 PM |
R40, the town of Joshua Tree has some artist-y places.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 5, 2019 6:50 PM |
So I've been here a week. :) Checked the local apps, scruff, grindr... So many tops. So many elders. And so many POZ people. What is up with that? Even young ones. Many military. But so cold brrr!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 17, 2019 8:50 PM |
Is it pretty out there R43?
We are going into PS tomorrow to visit. It’s “modernism week.”
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 17, 2019 10:30 PM |
r43. Well I'm about 50 miles from Palm Springs. But heard have friends in PS, they heard Jane Fonda talk yesterday, and are going to modernism weak. :)
