I have a taste for these things, but John Phillips sounds.....too much. How people like him stay alive and keep functioning AT ALL is just beyond my comprehension.

Basically the book opens with Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall visiting him on Long Island. They find Phillips and his wife, Genevieve Waite, drunk beyond belief and starting fires in their home. Genevieve then steals a diamond earring from Hall. She is confronted and goes nuts to the point thag Hall and Jagger confiscate their children for the weekend. That's just the first five pages.

He talks about when in his teens, a neighbor charged a quarter to bang his (the neighbor's) sister. John paid the quarter to the brother pimp and while he was doing it the brother was watching, fapping off...

You're better off reading it from Mackenzie Phillips' perspective.

He also used to sell coffins door to door. His father was an angry ex-military drunkard and his mother was also a lush. He lived in a squalid home.

I couldn't put it down when I read it years ago. Same with Keef's book Life. Both amazing.

What does he say about MacKenzie? Any indication he was more than a father to her?

Read it years ago, it's sordid, but it got decent reviews. No mention of incest with Mackenzie, but he comes off as someone with no boundaries and lecherous--no sense, for example, that there was much all that wrong with the girl being turned-out by her brother, just that it was kind of interestingly kinky. Read the book and it's totally believable that Mackenzie's telling the truth.

I think the only woman who could ever manage him was Michelle Phillips--read her autobiography too--she comes off as an airhead with not much of a moral compass, though okay when it comes to kids. So while not quite so fucking evil as Jon, they were a good match.

Jagger, the one who fucked Mackenzie when she was underaged, rescued her from her crazy parents one weekend? Gross.
