WHET Frank Zappa's kids?

They were trying really hard to make Moon Unit and Dweezil happen back around the late 80s. I vaguely remember Ahmet , and I don't remember the youngest one, Diva, at all.

From Moon Unit's Wiki:

[quote]Following the death of Zappa's mother, Gail, in October 2015, it was revealed that her siblings Ahmet and Diva were given control of the Zappa family trust with shares of 30% each, while Moon and her brother Dweezil were given smaller shares of 20% each.[5] Speaking to the Los Angeles Times in 2016, Zappa called it "the most hideous shock of [her] life."[5] As beneficiaries only, Moon and Dweezil will not see any money from the trust until it is profitable—in 2016, it was "millions of dollars in debt"[5]—and must seek permission from Ahmet, the trustee, to make money from their father's music or merchandise bearing his name.[5]

From Dweezil's Wiki:

[quote]Zappa received a cease-and-desist letter from the trust after he announced that he was being forced to perform his upcoming tour as "Dweezil Zappa Plays Frank Zappa" instead of using "Zappa Plays Zappa." In response to the trust’s action, he renamed his performance series "50 Years of Frank: Dweezil Zappa Plays Whatever the F@%k He Wants — the Cease and Desist Tour."[11]

So they don't get along any more, eh? I'd like to know what went down to cause such a rift.

Some weird relationships they had: Ahmet was married to Selma Blair for a hot minute(!), Dweezil dated Lisa Loeb for 6 years and even had a cooking show together? I don't remember that at all. Moon Unit had a kid with one of the guys from Matchbox 20.

by Anonymousreply 63February 6, 2019 7:51 PM

Moon Zappa deserves a swift kick in the cunt for that homophobic 80's song Valley Girl, where she insults a gay male teacher.

by Anonymousreply 1January 30, 2019 2:57 AM

Nobody cares about them because Frank Zappa has basically been forgotten.

by Anonymousreply 2January 30, 2019 2:59 AM

Dweezil was the hot one.

by Anonymousreply 3January 30, 2019 3:03 AM

Really stupid of the parents to pit the kids against one another like that. They should have all gotten 25%

by Anonymousreply 4January 30, 2019 3:05 AM

You asked whatever happened to them but you have more answers than anyone else could possibly have about the Zappa kids.

I wonder why the estate is millions of dollars in debt? How could that have happened?

by Anonymousreply 5January 30, 2019 3:07 AM

What was the deal with their house?

by Anonymousreply 6January 30, 2019 3:10 AM

Frank Zappa was a cold, mean person who probably got off on making his kids resent each other. He warned them "I don't do love" -- they should have believed it.

"He burns my private parts. He won't let me eat or drink… He beats me. He's going to kill me..."

by Anonymousreply 9January 30, 2019 3:21 AM

My mother had three kids from her first marriage who she wrote out of the will, and I think she had pretty good reason to do so, but she didn't tell them. She told me that she had, and she also told other lies about a pension and a savings, which in truth she basically forfeited so nobody got. It caused a huge amount of drama and I've had to come to the conclusion that she did it on purpose.

Which is why, when I see a story like this, I figure this dead parent did it on purpose too. Some people are just rotten.

by Anonymousreply 10January 30, 2019 3:27 AM

[quote]Frank Zappa was a cold, mean person who probably got off on making his kids resent each other. He warned them "I don't do love" -- they should have believed it.

Anyone who loved their children wouldn't have named them Dweezil and Moon Unit!

by Anonymousreply 11January 30, 2019 3:34 AM

Dweezil - I’d still do him in a heartbeat.

I've always thought Frank was a malignant narcissist. This is the sort of family dynamic they create.

by Anonymousreply 13January 30, 2019 3:35 AM

They had a fun guest turn on Roseanne during that dreadful last season.

Same episode as Tammy Faye, todd Oldham, and others

by Anonymousreply 14January 30, 2019 3:49 AM

They've made up. Mom was a cunt to the extreme in that she divvied up the estate so it would purposely pit the kids against each other. If she had simply written them out, that's one thing but she made it an unequal partnership.

I remember Dweezil's and Lisa Loeb's cooking show. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It showed both of them as seemingly very nice, normal people. Dweezil was and still is one gorgeous man.

Dweezil is swole!

Dweezil definitely got the looks in that family.

Here is Diva Zappa's website. She sells knitted hats for upwards of $200 and tarot readings for $250 - $500.

by Anonymousreply 25January 30, 2019 12:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 26January 30, 2019 12:29 PM

Diva looks transgender.

Decades back at Tower on Sunset, a mom saw Frank Zappa's record and said "well, at least he's got a handsome son."

by Anonymousreply 27January 30, 2019 4:11 PM

I think my daughter Mammie is friends with Tweezer.

by Anonymousreply 28January 30, 2019 7:15 PM

R1, I always understood that song to be Zappa’s commentary on the vapidity of the youth culture in the Valley.

Commentary on America in the mid-80s was bound to be misinterpreted.

by Anonymousreply 29January 30, 2019 9:26 PM

Mammie?

I don't want to know.

by Anonymousreply 30January 30, 2019 9:34 PM

Is that Jane Fonda making sandwiches at R8?

by Anonymousreply 31January 30, 2019 9:35 PM

I've. Even good friends w Lisa Loeb since college. Got to know Dweezil when they went out. He is actually a very nice guy. Funny. No arrogance. Just a good guy. I wish Lisa and he married.

by Anonymousreply 32January 30, 2019 9:45 PM

^ oh dear. "I've been good friends".....

by Anonymousreply 33January 30, 2019 9:54 PM

I agree that Dweezil is the only attractive sibling.

by Anonymousreply 34January 30, 2019 11:35 PM

The other brother had a quality in the 90s

by Anonymousreply 35January 30, 2019 11:39 PM

A repulsive quality? I agree.

by Anonymousreply 36January 30, 2019 11:42 PM

I doubt you need to worry about it, R36

by Anonymousreply 37January 30, 2019 11:47 PM

r32 why didn't they marry? and what's lisa up to these days? is she still friends with ethan hawke?

by Anonymousreply 38January 30, 2019 11:49 PM

Ahmet is still sexy but he was smoking hot in the days when he hosted a late night TV show with Dweezil.

by Anonymousreply 39January 30, 2019 11:50 PM

Dwezil did Celebrity Wife Swap

Well, now we know why their mom gave them the bigger shares. The younger sibs have no talent and will need the money.

by Anonymousreply 41January 30, 2019 11:55 PM

R31, yes, that's Jane Fonda--and more--in r8.

[quote]In television he worked as a guest MTV VJ. During that same period he recorded and released his first full length album, Havin’ A Bad Day. This album contained the single “Let’s Talk About It” which featured Moon Zappa on vocals and found itself on regular rotation on MTV. The video featured cameo appearances from Frank Zappa, Robert Wagner, Don Johnson and Jane Fonda as well.

Katie Wagner (Robert’s daughter between his marriages to Natalie Wood) was deweezils long term girlfriend in the 80s and for a time was his legal guardian when he moved out of frank and Gail’s home and in with Katie. Today that would be a big scandal but in the 80s it Didn’t get much traction

by Anonymousreply 44January 31, 2019 5:57 AM

Frank was Arabic via Italy & his wife was Jewish. Dweezil got the mother's looks, obviously. They also had an open relationship.

by Anonymousreply 45January 31, 2019 7:38 AM
by Anonymousreply 46January 31, 2019 10:47 PM

He’s married to an Italian woman from Jersey. She reminds me of Chris Cornell’s wife.

by Anonymousreply 47February 1, 2019 5:05 AM

"How could that have happened?"

Easy! Multiple adult children and their mother never working a day in their lives will bankrupt any estate.

I do give Dweezil props though, because he did, and apparently still does try to seek employment (he must have been very broke....Wife Swap?!?)

by Anonymousreply 48February 1, 2019 5:19 AM

[quote]r2 Nobody cares about them because Frank Zappa has basically been forgotten.

I can't name his hit songs aside from VALLEY GIRL, which was a novelty tune - -

by Anonymousreply 49February 1, 2019 5:48 AM

Loved Dweezil in his small role in Pretty in Pink. I think he was dating Molly Ringwald at the time.

by Anonymousreply 50February 1, 2019 9:42 AM

I wonder how serious he pursued an acting career. He’s always been easy on the eyes.

Frank's buried in an unmarked grave at Westwood Memorial Park. Home of Marilyn Monroe, the Gabor sisters, Natalie Wood, Farrah, and more.

He's right next to Lew Ayres.

by Anonymousreply 54February 6, 2019 5:34 AM

R54 is there a reason it’s unmarked?

by Anonymousreply 55February 6, 2019 5:35 AM

Thought Dweezil used to be with Bullock? Not sure how long ago.

by Anonymousreply 56February 6, 2019 6:24 AM

r50 I can't believe I never noticed that. I've seen that movie so many times, who was he in it? what scene is he in?

by Anonymousreply 57February 6, 2019 6:27 AM

When they go to that club, where Duckie can't get in, Dweezil is in her group of friends and gets introduced to Annie Potts as her friend Simon.

That's the only part I remember.

by Anonymousreply 58February 6, 2019 12:37 PM

Who the hell are these Poon and Squeegee Zappa people? And god that fucking earworm they gave birth to @ R8's link Ugh I can't get it out of my red delicious head Talking 'bout what everybody's talking 'bout I wanna talk about, we gotta talk about it Talking 'bout what everybody's talking 'bout I wanna talk about, we gotta talk about it Talking 'bout what everybody's talking 'bout I wanna talk about, we gotta talk about it Talking 'bout what everybody's talking 'bout I wanna talk about, we gotta talk about it Talking 'bout what everybody's talking 'bout I wanna talk about, we gotta talk about it Talking 'bout what everybody's talking 'bout I wanna talk about, let's talk about it

My English teacher...he's like...Mr. Bufoo. We're talking Lord God King Bufoo.

I am so sure, he's like soooo disgusting. He plays with his rings and flirts with ALL the guys in the class.

It's like...BARF OUT!! Gag me with a spoon!!

Valley girl, she's a valley girl. Okay, fine. Fer sure, fer sure. She's a valley girl and there is no cure.

[quote][R50] I can't believe I never noticed that. I've seen that movie so many times, who was he in it? what scene is he in?

He’s at the Trax club near the start of the film. Andie asks him what he’d do if his father suddenly became rich or something to that effect, and he says, “I’d kiss his ass.”

by Anonymousreply 62February 6, 2019 5:59 PM

It's really simple. The mom felt two of the children would safeguard her husband's image and the other two would do anything to capitalize on it. Additionally in business decisions it is almost impossible for 4 people to agree unanimously. She picked the two who she trusted with only the need for two to agree. She probably thought 3 against one or a deadlock would cause more strife. Plus the two left out could have more money but less common sense.
