I was at a talk she gave about her book about 8 or 9 years ago here in Toronto. She has a wonderful sense of humour and commented about a period of binge drinking, "when Teddy Kennedy thinks you have a drinking problem, you know you're REALLY in bad shape!" She's still quite beautiful and visits people in psych wards all the time. She acknowledged that her children went through hell with her (pre diagnosis) and that even now, if she laughs just a little too long, she'll catch her kids' furtive glances at her, scared that she's going into a manic phase. I adore her.

Margaret Trudeau is just so beloved in Canada (despite her wild antics) because she always spoke the truth. What you saw, is what you got.

Compare that to Mila Mulroney who always seems to have a mask on, which is why Maggie is more beloved by Canadians than Mila.
