We know she can get things done (unlike most of the current slate of declared candidates). Everyone knows who she is (unlike most of the current slate of declared candidates). And we know she can stare down Trump or anyone else in a debate (unlike most of the current slate of declared candidates).
Why not have Nancy Pelosi as President in 2020?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 30, 2019 10:17 AM |
Love her but she's too old
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 27, 2019 6:54 PM |
What R1 said. And would she want it? I don't think so.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 27, 2019 6:55 PM |
It would really drive the Republicans crazy
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 27, 2019 6:56 PM |
She is in the perfect position right where she is OP.
Next.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 27, 2019 6:56 PM |
No, Bernie. You'll still be the oldest candidate come 2019.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 27, 2019 6:57 PM |
By 2020, she may well be President.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 27, 2019 6:57 PM |
Anyway...too old needs to step aside.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 27, 2019 6:59 PM |
I love her too. She's smart, knows the laws/rules and how things work and has shown that can defeat Trump. She has been able to own his ass without going nuclear and calling him all kinds of names in retaliation. He's clearly scared of her since he hasn't given her a nickname yet.
That said, she's too old. Also, I don't know if she'd be able to capture the moderate and independent vote. Those are always the keys in an election. Hillary didn't get enough independents and Pelosi is more liberal than she is. Fox "News" wouldn't even need to try hard to get their base riled up to vote against her. Pelosi is now the #1 face of Democrats and they've hated her for over 10 years.
New blood is needed.

[quote]Anyway...too old needs to step aside.
I see, you are back to that old "Nancy needs to be gone" bullshit. Never mind, that she is saving the country right now (your country, if you care about it...).
Do all older women bother you? Or women in general?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 27, 2019 7:07 PM |
At this juncture, of course she wouldn’t run for POTUS, talk about creating a huge power vacuum. Now, being appointed President, that is another story.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 27, 2019 7:12 PM |
Pelosi is finally acting the way she should have when the Democrats took the House in 2006, having learned her lesson — the hard way — that weakness begets no respect from your own side and even worse behaviour from the other side. And, let's face it, the country and democracy as a whole are on the verge of collapse if the Democrats don't fight back and stop the Republican slide to despotism and fascism. Having said that, she has earned a tiny bit of respect from the people like me (who say she should go) and so long as she keeps Trump's balls in a vice she has a role to play. Too bad she didn't stop this mess and prosecute the Bush cabal's war crimes which would have prevented this whole mess in the first place. Yeah, I know, 20/20 hindsight.
She has no interest in the presidency, and R3 and R8 are correct; there is no way that she could win the vast wasteland that is flyoverstan. These people still believe Trump's lies about everything, whether it's Mexican rapists, Russian collusion, aborted fetuses or anything else. The Democrats have lost working class white people, and it's going to take a monumental shift in our politics for them to return to the party. They would rather vote away their rights, the retirement security, their children's futures and the planet before admitting that they're racist nationalists incapable of competing on a level playing field, and doing something about it.
People in middle America blame the Democrats for the deeds of rich Republicans (think: the way Mitt Romney bought family-owned companies that had fallen on hard times but nevertheless provided a good middle class life to entire generations, only to sell off the assets and plunge the company deeply into debt before dumping the mess on the Federal government and riding off with a hundred of million dollar payoff) as though the Democrats could have done anything about this kind of raping and pillaging. No, the rich systematically destroyed the Democratic party in retribution for delaying (I would say ending, but...) their fantasy of an extremely stratified class system wherein a few mega-wealthy robber barons owned and controlled everything and the vast majority had no chicken in a pot nor a window to throw it out. I am, of course, talking about the Depression and WWII, but do I need to say it... sound familiar?
And yet, here we are, facing the same problems and challenges once again. I've always said that it takes a crisis for Americans to wake up and think about the choices we make as a culture, and I truly hope that before we plunge the world into war or decimate our economic system, we can convince working class people to stop siding with their enemies. You'd think that one of the two American political parties suddenly start pandering to nation-states that only a few short years ago were our "number one geopolitical foe" would open some eyes, but I have yet to see it.

I would prefer Nancy Pelosi for President in 2019.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 27, 2019 8:06 PM |
That’s what I’m thinking, R12.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 27, 2019 8:15 PM |
She is a pussy who DOESN'T get much done and lets the Republicans run amok, even when they're committing crimes.
Speaker Tip O'Neill investigated Nixon and Reagan for impeachment for Watergate, Iran-Contra and other crimes.
But that's "not who" Nancy "Pussy" Pelosi is. We need Democratic leaders who aren't ashamed to take and wield power or prosecute crimes of America's other branches, because that is their constitutional duty and there's been a Russian coup d'etat of the White House.

[quote] Love her but she's too old
She's only a year older than Bernie Sanders and only two years older than Joe Biden.
All three are over 75. If she's too old, so are they.

R15 - Yes
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 27, 2019 9:06 PM |
I say she's too old to run in 2020, but only because I worry for her health. She'll be at the precarious 80 benchmark soon and anything can happen after that age.
She's tough enough, she's smart enough, and doggone it, I like her. Fuck off, Little Miss Purity Test R14.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 27, 2019 9:21 PM |
FUCK you, R14.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 27, 2019 9:22 PM |
She ended the shutdown, whether Repugs admit it or not. Trump is scared of her. But she is too old to be president.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 27, 2019 9:35 PM |
Only women are too old to be president, even though they live eight years longer than men.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 27, 2019 9:37 PM |
The cut-off age should be a maximum of 58 years old on their inauguration day so that after two terms as president they will be the official US retirement age of 66. No one should be allowed to serve in Congress past that age, either. Nor should any VP or anyone else in the potential line of succession ever be older than retirement age. We have people making tech laws who have never used a computer in their lives. In fact, the experiences of the generation still in power is so very far removed from the realities of modern life that they may as well be from a different galaxy. They're unfit to make any judgments about modern life.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 27, 2019 9:49 PM |
R15 I agree 100%
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 27, 2019 11:50 PM |
Fucking R9. You had me thinking, "Right on!" and then you went for the big chick finale.
Stop doing that, you're wrong and you're a pain in the cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 27, 2019 11:59 PM |
R14, you never had me thinking "Right on!" and that's because you are a fucking moron.
You know absolutely nothing about the Speaker's previous time as Speaker. Gets nothing done? You are being deliberately obtuse. The Speaker is widely recognized as one of the most legislatively effective Speakers SINCE Tip O'Neill (obviously the only real Mr. Speaker who ever lived). Witness the speed and effectiveness with which she whipped that vile orange turd into submission. Admire the cohesiveness and unity of her caucus. Enjoy her attractive, appropriate, power coats and scarves.
She could be president, I suppose, but she won't be president. She'll be a towering figure in politics and an American legend like Tip O'Neill.
I'll tell you what we ought to be discussing, it's that stupid agreement that she'll step down in a couple of years or whatever the fuck that was they did. I'd forgotten about it but now that I remember it, what the fuck is up with that? I don't want that enforced, in fact I'd consider it good sportsmanship as well as good governance to publicly overturn it. Now.
The tough and wily old lady stays as long as we can possibly keep her there. She helped President Obama, we need her there to help our next Democratic President who is - of course - going to have to clean up after ANOTHER Republican carnival of fiscal irresponsibility along with the American carnage done by the traitors' Russiagate and, possibly, the impeachment/resignation (not referring to Pence's short tenure).
However we get there, January 2021 is going to be the start of a big job, we need a strong Speaker, not a young turk.

She would be a great candidate for POTUS if she were 20 years younger. We need a strong leader like Pelosi to shepard the way for younger strong Democrats who will have a longer shelf life on the political stage. I think thats how she sees her roll now.
