Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Final Episodes

Great series. Thoroughly enjoyed it on Netflix.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 25, 2019 10:52 AM |
omg, Ronan Farrow in episode 8! Loving it.
And in the 7th episode you get the funny guy from West 40s as sassy assistant. Love the plot of Millennials being hot for older women now after #metoo and using homeware stores as hook-up venues.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 25, 2019 12:07 PM |
I’m binge watching it now. The second half to the season is so good!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 25, 2019 9:12 PM |
The second half was much better than the first. Loved Zachary Quinto.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 25, 2019 9:13 PM |
Binge watched it as well. Love it. Don't know if that counts as spoiler but it ends on a high note for me.
Truly a great show. Jane Krakowski should be considered a National Treasure. Actually, the entire leading cast should be considered National Treasures and Tina Fey, of course.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 25, 2019 9:15 PM |
The twist with Quinto's character is pretty hilarious.

Carol Kane as a drug lord is hysterical.

I agree it's much better as a whole than the first half of the season, although the funniest episode of the entire season (by far) was in the first half, "Kimmy has a Weekend!," with Kimmy and Titus getting involved with the Korean nail salon. I was hugely disappointed Deirdre Robespierre (my favorite minor supporting character) was not in the 2nd half of the season, nor Jacqueline's Native American parents; I was thrilled that Xanthippe (my second favorite minor supporting character) was in the final episode and had some great bitchy eye-rolling moments.
The "Row-Nun-Fair-Row" gag was the single funniest (especially the image they provided for "fair") and got the biggest laugh from me. I forget how beautiful Ronan Farrow is, and I appreciated that he parodied his reputation for being involved in exposing molestors and sexual harassers because of his personal life. I also loved the send-up of the #MeToo movement's more ridiculous aspects like having people wear all-black to award shows (one of the stupidest and shallowest gestures ever).
This is the first time I have ever found Zach Quinto hot. That scene with him and Jackie pretending to be sitting on invisible chairs with their backs against the walls must have been absolute hell to film for both of them to perform, even though they're in great shape.
The biggest mistake of the final season was taking Jackie out of her wealthy environment. She just didn't make sense as a talent agent, and they gave her far less to do this season than any other season. I was hugely disappointed there were no instances of the running gag that rich people prefer to travel by blimp in the 2nd half of the season--that's been one of my favorite running jokes ever (especially when there would be little throwaway moments, like Jackie subscribing to "Blimp Aficionado" magazine).
Someone got Carol Kane to enunciate this season far more clearly than she had in previous seasons--I hugely appreciated that.

Titus' reaction to his stalker breaking down and no longer being able to keep up the charade in the restaurant is so funny.
And the true origin story of Cats!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 26, 2019 6:37 PM |
Jon Bernthal was very sexy as the stalker. I loved the million jokes about Daredevil they worked into his scenes. I was surprised he can do comedy (pretty well, actually).
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 26, 2019 6:38 PM |
Please tell me that Titus' cameo in the other Netflix series is actually in the other show!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 26, 2019 6:39 PM |
The Sliding Doors episode was pretty funny, although it's hard to believe Kimmy could ever become a bitch. I did laugh really hard at the scene from Titus's movie (especially when he tried to get up the steps).
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 26, 2019 6:40 PM |
The fake music and lyrics for "Cats" were hilarious.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 26, 2019 6:41 PM |
I love the sight gag of Europe being called London on Kimmy's map.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 26, 2019 6:44 PM |
Andrew Lolo Baloney!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 26, 2019 7:50 PM |
Kimmy cheating on her date with his parents was pretty disturbing though. I mean I get it why she did it (since she never experienced such a family life) but it still was a dick move from her.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 26, 2019 9:33 PM |
One of my favorite things about Kimmy Schmidt has been the wealth sight gags in the backgrounds of shot. Sometimes you have to watch an episode several times before you catch it. You can often see, for example, robots (like C.H.E.R.Y./L.) doing tasks for rich people (like walking their dogs) in the backgrounds, and this season in the "Cats" episode there were some hilarious quotes from critics on the posters for "Cats" that went by in the wink of an eye. Sometimes you have to use your freeze frame to catch them.
I hope Tina Fey does another series with Jane Krakowski and Titus Burgess--no one reads her dialogue better than Krakowski and Burgess do. Ellie Kemper is pretty irritating to me on this show, but those other two were basically born to do various comedy series with her.

Haven't watched yet, but I'm hoping Amy Sedaris makes an appearance or two. She could read the phone book (which is how we olds used to look up a phone number before the interwebs) and I would roll on the floor.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 26, 2019 9:41 PM |
She does R22 and she nails it.
So glad this second season was back on form. Had we discussed the robot being called Cheryl? I could totally believe it’s a nod to DL.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 26, 2019 9:51 PM |
We also get to see Amy Sedaris' character in a different version in the Sliding Door special and a relative of hers.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 26, 2019 10:01 PM |
Quinto was excellent in this and very sexy. Sorry he only did two episodes cause he was a great foil for Jacqueline. Maybe Tina Fey will write something else for him.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 27, 2019 2:51 AM |
Oh pity, he’s already attached to this series where he feeds on the souls of children.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 27, 2019 2:55 AM |
R10, I nominate that as the best joke of the entire goddamn series. Brilliant!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 27, 2019 6:15 AM |
Endless laughs from these final episodes— what an excellent send-off. Pervatory was hilarious- “I’ll have a large glass bowl full of fake lemons.” My mouth seriously dropped at the puppet penis— they went there! Fey legitimized the MeToo movement while at the same time lambasting aspects (victims at the tonys in shorts). I also echo what was and above about Quinto. I’ve never noticed him “that way” before but he looked fucking fine in well-tailored suits in this role.

I want to be a fourway with Jon Bernthal, Ronan Farrow, and Anders Holm!

I hope a movie does happen...but they need to wait a few years.

Carol Kane reading a newspaper called "BM New York."
With the headline "CYNDI LAUPER STILL AT LARGE."

I was hoping for the return of Daddy’s Boy. And Dong!

This half season has been on fire! It's the funniest it's been since the first season. I'm glad they're going out strong. The Church of Cosmetology/Jack Straightman storyline was brilliant.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 28, 2019 3:02 AM |
I enjoyed every moment of the series and think that it's one of the few series that nailed its finale.
However, a stand alone movie is likely a bad idea at this point and they should all move on.

To be honest I expected this to become a story plot later on. I was like "What the hell is THIS about?"

BM New York also has a quote from a review of Cats on a poster outside of the theater. “One of then licked me.”

I missed Dong as well

Xanthippe and Stevie from Schitt's Creek should have a show together.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 31, 2019 5:50 AM |
This show could have used a lot more Xan and Mimi Kanassis and a lot less Lilian.
Seasons ranking: 1, 2, 4 and 3.

I am rewatching Season 3 now, fast-forwarding through all the Carol Kane/Peter Riegert scenes.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 2, 2019 4:19 PM |
I was actually kind of disappointed that Jon Bernthal wasn't actually into Titus. I really bought that he did.
I cried at the last episode. I was holding it together, but when the little kid came up to Kimmy and told her that her books made him feel safe...
by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 2, 2019 4:33 PM |
I disagree, R48. I was rolling my eyes and cringing at that until the twist was revealed.
I've been an out gay man for 20 years, and guys who look like Bernthal *do not* go for guys who look like Titus unless they're being paid. Full stop.
It was hard enough buying even Mikey being into him, let alone a full on hotty like Bernthal.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | February 2, 2019 4:42 PM |
I'm into Tituss tho. He's the exact opposite of my usual type, but Tituss Burgess totally sold me on the character. I love watching his interviews.

[quote] I disagree, [R48]. I was rolling my eyes and cringing at that until the twist was revealed.
Well, last half of the season they briefly teased his character and made clear he was a spy watching Titus, so I am surprised you saw this as a twist.
[quote] I've been an out gay man for 20 years, and guys who look like Bernthal *do not* go for guys who look like Titus unless they're being paid. Full stop.
I think everyone knows that except Titus, who always lives in a fantasy world.
I think you were watching this under the serious misunderstanding that we were not all supposed to see Jon Bernthal's character as up to something all along.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | February 2, 2019 5:49 PM |
Jon Bernthal looked hot as hell but was way too intense for this kind of comedy.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | February 2, 2019 8:44 PM |
I'm sad it's over. It feels like there may have been another season there for everyone but Lilian. There were some amazing lines hidden in this last batch. The one where the leader of the $cientology cult said "my husband Shelley was just here, you didn't see him" was pretty pointed.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 3, 2019 4:38 AM |
Rachel Dratch as the snobbish lesbian couple was brilliant.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | February 3, 2019 4:57 AM |
Possibly my favorite scene from the entire series!
by Anonymous | reply 55 | February 3, 2019 4:42 PM |
I’m with you R55.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | February 3, 2019 8:12 PM |
Ugh, I can’t stop falling asleep during episodes. I’m not enjoying it at all.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | February 14, 2019 11:41 PM |
I loved the episode where Titus directed the high school musical, and Jacqueline and Lillian padded the theater with actors instead of parents of the students...and then the actors think that it's performance art instead of a terrible high school show.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 7, 2019 6:02 AM |
MIKEY: Is it true about Mr. Frumpus? I really hope not. And not because I'm one quarter marionette.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 7, 2019 8:27 AM |
Lillian was the actual worst. Ruined the entire series.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 7, 2019 8:42 AM |
I couldn't stand either Titus or Lilian initially but got to where I loved them both, and by season 3 I found Kimmy to be the least interesting, most annoying character.
One of my very favorite scenes was when T&L sat down at Titus's bedbug-ridden piano together and sang the theme to "Gangly Orphan Jeff." It was such a catchy, brilliant tune that I wanted to find a sound clip of it to maybe use as a ringtone, but when you hear it without the video it doesn't work, as it's split between Lilian, Titus, and a cheerful kids' voice, with Kimmy's voice randomly interjecting to say "goodbye Dong."
I was over the moon when I heard the music of the closing credits for the final episode!!!
"Daddy's Boy" was also fantastic (so catchy! So DL!) and I often watch the S3 Kimmy Goes To Church ep to hear Ruben leading the chorus in that Elijah Rock song. Jeff Richmond is a genius.
Other thoughts: I also was totally shocked with the muppet penis, same reaction as r28. I wish Dierdre Robespierre and Buckley had had some season 4 appearances too. I really liked Artie and thought he was a great foil for Lilian. Hated the DJ mockumentary episode. Wish Disney would have let them film LK scenes with the real cast/costumes/set of the bway show. Jane K. is unparalleled. My favorite ep of the entire series was probably the one in S3 when Jaqueline and Titus get caught up in a weird sexual tango with her brother in law. That first glimpse of Mikey's grandma back in S2 was one of the most delightfully unexpected, absurd things I've ever seen. Overall the show was very uneven but always original, richly layered, and greatly entertaining.
