Replying to this from the other thread. I guess for me his good guy image doesnt come from what people say, but from how he has acted with fans at numerous events. There have been a lot of very sweet touching moments where he just comes across as a good guy who cares about people. There is one where he remembered a letter a fan wrote to him and repeatedly hugged her while saying some really nice stuff, he was clearly touched by her words and expressing his gratitude, that kind of empathy cant be faked.

Tbh I could easily see him calling other kids faggot when he was younger (like 10-13). He's been a hip hop fan since he was tiny and that is unfortunately common there, especially back then. As for being a bully, well lots of kids who are victims of bullies will often turn around and bully other kids in turn. I know I did, and I'm not proud of it. But weren't we all shits when puberty was kicking in?

R4 you are ignoring the most obvious reason why he did not get the nom, he was in a movie that sucked. Every pundit called this, statistically every year an actor who gets all the precursers misses, and it is generally someone in the situation Timmy was in (sole nom for a movie).

Take it from someone who has met him twice. He's a sweetheart. Well, as far as how he interacts with his fans anyway. I mean, can any of us say what he's REALLY like unless we know him personally? But when I met him he was the cutest thing ever. Very polite but also seemed humble. Like he couldn't believe he was getting so much attention. That was my impression anyway.

Timmy is not going to be rude to powerful and industry people, he's going to suck up and charm them. He's going to do the same when he's at public events,(that's part of his job plus he likes the adoration), it's off times or in every day life that you get a sense of his real personality.

He didn't get nominated because while he gave a solid performance, the film wasn't the good. It Lucas Hedges fans should be upset about he gave 2 good performance in 1 better film and got 0!

But who isn’t an ass in private sometimes? But I don’t get vibes from him that he’s secretly a huge asshole. He seems too anxious and neurotic to treat people badly. I think people are so interested in what he’s really like in private because we don’t really ever get glimpses of him in private or what he’s really like when he’s not “on.” And also I think some people have a hard time believing that his childlike, naive persona could really be what he’s like all the time because it seems like an ott act sometimes (going off what others have said). I don't think that Timothee is an ass in private. But, I do think that he uses the aw shucks cuteness to play up to his fans, the wider audience, and his acting peers. I'm not saying that it's an act, it's just that he is aware of it and uses it to his advantage.

If you're a fan you just have to be realistic, every single actor will have something they play up because it appeals. If these people were 100% themselves in public they'd all be getting called assholes at some point.

R100: I don't know, i think pre GG the chances of Tim and Lucas of being nominated were very similar. Both films flopped and both performances were praised. Lucas has not nominated before and given they had 10 actors nominated the chaces of getting a nomination were high (specially given he was way younger than most contenders). Tim chances were high because this is a very weak year. HW keeps producing superhero films and way less serious movies, so there are less great movies (and this year is quite obvious) and the supporting actor cathegory doesn't seem very strong this year.

If both continue to play interesting roles they will end receiving an oscar sooner or later. Most young actors are doing very commercial films, not oscar material and once you get the good reputation the odds play on your favour to at least get a nomination.

And even people saying it was not that surprising, sorry but that's not true, no matter how bad is BB, he got nomination to all previous big awards so the oscar nomination seemed in the bag

Cold War is primarily Polish, so it's a bit different. Also, was nowhere near as pushed as BB, which is a good thing imo, allowed the film to speak for itself.

I'm always conflicted about Tim because I feel we have a lot of shit in common. He seems anxious as hell, with a mom that thinks the sun shines out his asshole and I get the feeling he was an annoying immature poser as a teen, which are all things I can understand and identify with. He's also talented and gorgeous (which I can't identify with, but those are things that certainly make him appealing), but some of his friendships are at the very least "problematic" so I'm permanently on the verge of "cancelling" him myself. Hopefully whatever he did is not that awful.
