Leslie Jones Slams Upcoming ‘Ghostbusters’ Movie, Says It’s ‘Something Trump Would Do’
Leslie Jones is not supporting the new Ghostbusters movie.
After it was announced that Jason Reitman would be directing the continuation of the 1984 sequel, the 51-year-old Saturday Night Live star took to Twitter to reveal how insulted she feels about the new movie.
"So insulting. Like fuck us," Leslie tweeted. "We dint [sec] count. It’s like something trump would do. (Trump voice) 'Gonna redo ghostbusteeeeers, better with men, will be huge. Those women ain’t ghostbusteeeeers' ugh so annoying. Such a dick move. And I don’t give fuck I’m saying something!!"
Leslie starred alongside Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, and Kate McKinnon in the female-led Ghostbusters reboot that was released in 2016.
Jason's Ghostbusters is set to hit theaters in 2020.

I haven't seen it either but I can judge. The film grossed $128 million but had production costs of $144 million. PLUS advertising and misc costs on top of that. SO it bombed pretty big.

Yet it gets a solid fresh rating on RT. With all the criticism, I was thinking it'd be in the 30s. Not all good movies are commercial, to say the least. Naysayers would have a much better case if the critics had hated it.

r6 If you think $100 million-dollar-movies are made only so they can get a good Rotten Tomatoes rating, you're a gigantic imbecile.
Plus, a lot of the good reviews were made just so critics could spite the 4chan mob whining about the movie.

A new Ghostbusters film connected to the original two films was revealed in January 2019, with a planned mid-2020 release date. Jason Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman, will direct from a script co-written by himself and Gil Kenan, while Ivan Reitman will serve as a producer. According to Entertainment Weekly's Borys Kit, the film will feature children, two boys and two girls, as the new recruits for the titular team.
So 2020 will be a children's version, and it'll be an even gender mix. I'd like to see the female version, but Leslie does have to accept they weren't going to make a sequel for it when it lost so much money. That's showbiz.

It simply didn't do well enough to get a sequel. If other people want to pour money into another remake, I don't see the problem beyond the broader issue of lack of imagination or being creatively bereft.

It is simple economics. Why would a studio once again shell out hundreds of millions for her and her co-stars to star in something that was one on the biggest box office bombs of all time and rightly got mediocre reviews? Wigg seemed like she was sedated. Jones was a stereotype. McCarthy did fat people falling jokes, and McKinnon's weird schtick is tired after five minutes, which is why she is still stuck on SNL.
What's the big mystery? Sony's Venom was pure trash, but it made tons if money and getting a sequel. Jones us acting like she is new to the industry.

An honest feminist would create new and fresh roles with strong female characters/heroes. Wonder Woman. Xena. Captain Janeway. Buffy. Jessica Jones. Rogue One. On and on.
There is nothing progressive or creative about rebooting/retooling something from the past just to switch the gender roles. It reinforces the idea that for a female character to arouse interest, it has to be based on an established male character.
And stating that doesn't make someone an "incel." But when you lack intellectual curiosity or the ability to comprehend nuance, name calling is all you have.

I'd rather see an animated series that more closely resembles the original movies and where someone can reprise the role of Egon. Ghostbusters the Video Game (or Ghostbuster 3 as I like to call it) was terrific, with the cast still showing great chemistry, and a story that effectively raised the stakes from the first two movies. Better yet, it paid homage to the first two movies by reintroducing us to some of the same locations and ghosts from the first two films, but also expanding the story and making it even more otherworldly. This is the only way to go with Ghostbusters if you ask me.
And the remake was awful. It wasn't even the actors' fault. The writing was absolutely atrocious. Chris Hemsworth's character was too dumb to live. The characters and situations were all over the top (comedy isn't effective when every single character is the comedic foil, you need a serious character to act realistically), the pacing was off due to improvisation, the scares from the original (yes the the original was scary and thrilling in parts especially if you saw it as a kid) were completely removed, the cameos were insulting, the music choices were cringey. Much of the movie felt like a bad SNL skit that drags on and on (that's really saying something considering the current state of SNL). The villain sucked and was completely forgettable. CGI was overdone. And I could go on and on. The movie was even worse that what the fans were saying. The critics completely embarrassed themselves. And from what I can tell Leslie Jones is just an awful person.

She's just mad she wasn't invited to be in the movie.
So now all future Ghostbusters must be women, because of the 2016 flop?
I don't know if I'd trust the Rotten Tomatoes score. It's based off published reviews - the furor around the movie was such that any reviewer giving it a bad rating would be branded a MRA, unless they were a woman, and then they'd be criticized for supporting MRAs. It was a toxic situation.
Similar to Black Panther, you couldn't say it was a decent movie, if you didn't say it was groundbreaking and the most amazing thing ever, you would get accused of being racist.

“Something that Trump would do”? I’m so sick of self-important actors. No, hon, “something that Trump would do” is molest women, buddy up to murderous dictators, and deprive hundreds of Americans of their salaries in order to promote a defense tactic, one that could not suffice to save Ancient Rome, against an imaginary crisis.
What happened is that you made a mediocre reboot of a classic movie in the place of a long-awaited direct sequel. When film promoters realized that the movie was no good in its own right, they decided to market it as some feminist crusade against a few gross men who objected to the reboot because it starred women rather than the actual quality of the film. Now THAT is and abhorrent tactic, and taking advantage of a group of people’s fears and insecurities to sell a product is definitely “something that trump would do.”

Tangent, but Cecily Strong is my favorite current cast member and I don’t understand why she has never broken out. She’s like Phil Hartman in that she is just consistently funny but never gets any acclaim. Kate McKinnon would be my favorite if she weren’t the “star” of the whole contraption now the way Kristen Wiig was before her. I kind of resent when one person is made the centerpiece of an ensemble.

You really should look more closely at what the "reviews" and ratings actually say. As I noted in r37 - RT: 74%/267 reviews with avg score of 6.5/10. Audience 51%/117K reviews with avg score 3.1/5.
Scores of over 60 percent are considered fresh, and scores of 59 percent and under are rotten - the AVERAGE score by critics was 6.5. To get the 74% Fresh rating, 175 of the 267 reviewers gave the movie a 6.0 score or better.
It really isn't all that positive, certainly not sufficient to categorically state that, as a group, there was some agenda.

I didn't know that, good for Bill Murray. Actors rarely have that kind of self-awareness.

R106 She has an opportunity to not be a female "Amos 'N Andy" and present something more than a worn out stereotype of a trashy black woman. She could do better.

It seems every conversation about this woman—even when it starts out with observations of her comic prowess—quickly devolves to racist rhetoric. Every single time.

R98 I love you so much. The audience , in general, are usually more determinative of what is and isn't a bomb. Afterall, the audience are the people who will make a movie a Cult Classic or an enduring cash cow. I still see Mean Girls and V for Vendetta shit on sale.
Melissa McCarthy has been spamming drek. Up until Can You Forgive Me , she hasn't done anything noteworthy since Bridesmaids. She hurt the film as well b/c of oversaturation and she kinda does the same character over and over. However, Leslie needs to get over herself. Melissa's generic spam is still funny even if over done. Leslie is even more limited. Sometimes shit just ain't funny or a cast doesn't work well together in terms of chemistry. You can still buy Clue which was made over 30 years ago for a reason.
" Flames! on the side of my face..breathing… breathless.." <- More than 3 decades old and still amusing. Leslie should learn to be something other than loud and abrasive. She would also benefit from doing more with her face, voice inflection, mannerisms... you know ACTUAL EFFORT IN MAKING A CHARACTER MORE THAN ONE DIMENSIONAL.
That being said, I still laugh to this day at Leslie's mountain lion joke. She's a good standup comedian, but a super limited actress.

Leslie Jones wants to be in the center of attention just when she was complaining a year ago or more no designer wanted to give her a dress for the red carpet . I mean she thinks she’s Viola Davis or Taraj P Henson ? Always complaining and making a lot of noise .Playing the race card to get what she wants . And someone was foolish enough to deliver then .

She should have just taken a breath, ranted to her friends for a couple days then decided if she really wanted to say this shit in public. This is nail in the coffin kind of stuff.
I only just watched her Ghostbusters. It was, as others have said, a bunch of SNL skits strung together. I’m sure it was funny on set but when it gets to the editing room it’s just a mess that doesn’t flow. A lot of the SNL alumni are guilty of this. Kristen turns in the same performance she’s ever turned in. Same with Mellisa. The other two ladies are fresh at least.
Get the feeling the new reboot will be cashing in on Stranger Things popularity.

R78, The Last Jedi is another example. But movie reviewers and especially YouTube personalities all overly and sycophantically depend on studio perks and the chance to talk to the star du jour for five minutes too much to give an honest review. The “men are mean” stuff is just a smokescreen.

That female Ghostbusters reboot was so poorly mishandled. Ghostbusters had female fans, sure, but the primary for the original films were boys. That said, it would've been totally appropriate for a reboot to have a diverse cast in terms of race and gender. I don't think anyone would've complained if it was two males and two females in the leads. Instead they decided to make it female exclusive. And as we've learned from countless blubbering Oscar speeches, people want to see themselves reflected in movies and not having a male counterpoint in the film made it uninteresting to the initial target demographic. The final nail in the coffin was when the White Knight director decided to politicize the backlash and make it that, if you didn't want to see the movie, it's because you hate women.
So they took intellectual property with a large fanbase, didn't provide an entryway for that market and, in fact, directly insulted them. So they appealed to the female market, which completely rejected it because they were never the audience for that IP in the first place.
It was like making a Jem and the Holograms movie, casting it all with men, and having the director say women are toxic cunts. Yeah, it's gonna bomb.

The only problem I had with the original is that Ernie Hudson's part was cut down to nothingness. He's a good actor and an intelligent man. I'm guessing that the leads didn't want him to get the same amount of screen time.
Leslie Jones, OTOH, is so obnoxious and so ready to coon for white people she makes me sick.

Why do some delicate people like to think that if you don't like someone you must "fear" them. I find this so strange. It's such a common assertion that I have to believe it's been added to the SJW Policies and Procedures Manual.

It really is not wrong to say she’s supremely untalented and ONLY got the SNL gig because Lorne was under massive pressure to fill the diversity quota, he went extra in because she’s so old, privately she’s hated by most of the writers because she destroys their work, she’s actually very nice as a human in life, but really isn’t made for entertainment.

People who accuse others of being racists when they state the obvious: (Leslie Jones styles herself is a spectacularly unattractive man/woman who seems like a walking talking caricature of "the loud obnoxious black female") are laughable.
She knows that will make white people laugh. If she were attractive in any fashion whatsoever, her act of screaming profane lines(mostly about not getting any sex or attention from men) would not be funny. She gets gigs because she looks very much like a lowland silverback. I have seen her in a wig and she looks like a different person. She CAN look much more attractive if she chooses. but she knows what sells and it is her Harambe schtick. Yes, that is a very harsh statement, but it is the truth. She IS Amos and Andy for the 21st century.
Or maybe she is Moms Mabley.
