It's fascinating. When Joseph was growing up he was an ugly, fatherless, poor son of an immigrant house cleaner. When the world found out he was the bastard son of Arnold Schwarzenegger, it appeared to make everything worse. His father's long marriage ended in bitter enmity. His half siblings have, doubtless, despised him from the beginning. The tabloids published a few photos of him and the world peered at their computer screens and declared the boy hideous. But the lad now knew his own paternal heritage. He could rent his father's old blockbuster movies and see that his father was a powerful, muscular, deep-voiced, popular, legendary man who played gods and heroes onscreen. And his father was an immigrant too, but here was a vision of enormous success and societal acceptance. After a successful body building career and even more successful acting career, he'd become the governor of California. The boy must have seen this as the moment that he, hitherto an ugly duckling, could begin to change into a swan. He had a template for what to do. Work out. Lift weights. Someone to model himself on. How exciting it must have been to look in the mirror one day and realize he was the son of the Terminator, the son of Conan the Barbarian.

It probably took a few years before his father made contact and took an interest. But Arnold was roundly rejected by his wife and children. He was old and grizzled and flabby and the tabloids posted unflattering photos of the cheating buffoon, fallen from favor, long past his prime. When the boy hit puberty and started shaping up into a crude replica of his father, things began falling into place. They connected in a way that Arnold had clearly never experienced with his kids before: Joseph was awed, grateful, eager to impress, thrilled to have a dad. Undoubtedly, Joseph had yearned for this since he was very young. The other kids had taken their dad for granted. He was embarrassing to them, a washed out actor with a broad Austrian accent and a bunch of corny catchphrases from the 1980s. Joseph gave him the respect and adoration he hadn't had in ages. And, they really do genuinely seem to have the same interests and instincts. Joseph never had to feign interest in sports or exercise, he evidently took to it like a fish to water. He's simple and unspoiled. He probably turned out to be the greatest gift old Arnold could have asked for.

I think he's handsome and seems like he has a sweet personality. It's not his fault that he was born from a relationship between a famous, married man (politician) and a housekeeper. I'm glad Arnold is out in the open with their relationship. Despite the whole back story, I actually admire Arnold for treating his son as a true, legitimate son (at least what I can see at this point).

Schwarzenegger wasn't handsome when he was younger, but he was very photogenic. The camera loved him and his odd, coarse features.

Baena isn't handsome either, but he's not far off. He's got full lips, good skin, and strong masculine features, and if a good plastic surgeon did something about that too-long receding chin, everything else would fall into place. If this guy wants to crash Hollywood and try to build a career as a younger Jason Momoa, well, with a little help from dad and a good plastic surgeon, it could happen.

No, Arnold is a peasant/hillbilly from the Austrian back of beyond, he grew up without electricity or running water. The rest of German-speaking Europe looks down on Austria as being full of brutal rednecks, and Arnold was from the low end of the brutal-redneck class. Since Austria is apparently a country with a hidebound social class system, Arnold thought he could never get anywhere in Austria because of his low origins. So he came to America where he didn't have to deal with social class, because while AMerica has intense class-prejudice issues, white Europeans aren't subject to them.
