Glenn Close Oscar revote #3 1984 Best Supporting Actress

How could Geraldine have been a supporting actress in Trip to Bountiful? That has to be wrong, the movie was about her character!

oops it should be The Pope of Greenwich Village for Geraldine.

That’s an easy win for Dame Peggy. She even won a few Best Actress awards for “A Passage to India,” even though it’s clearly a supporting role. She was that good.

This is the one Close nomination that doesn’t feel deserving (yes, even “Albert Nobbs” is stronger), but I can’t really think of that many suitable replacements, especially since the other nominees beyond Ashcroft (and Christine Lahti, to a much lesser extent) are pretty weak.

Lindsay, loved her in House of Cards too, her tour-de-force. She seems to have retired, last imdb credit 2013.

Glenn Close has practically NO character to play in [italic]The Natural.[/italic] She's playing the angel of mercy. The fact that she was nominated at all was a joke.

And I've never seen someone so backlit in my life. That lighting is her whole performance.

I’d probably give Sigourney Weaver a nomination that year for “Ghostbusters,” and I’ve never been a huge fan of that movie. That’s how weak the category was.

But if Academy voters acted now like they did then, Elizabeth Berridge might have coasted to a nomination for “Amadeus” despite being the weakest performer in that movie. So at least that didn’t happen.

r5, I might have forced myself to watch The Natural once, but have no memory of it. And yes, it looks like they could've replaced Glenn with a cardboard cutout, for all the difference it would've made.

Kim Basinger and Barbara Hershey are the memorable performers from THE NATURAL.

I thought Barbara Hershey was great too, made a tiny role unforgettable.

Fran Drescher in This is Spinal Tap was robbed (like the whole movie).

Wow....whatever happened to Christine Lahti ?....or even other actresses that were good and worked a lot in that period....JoBeth Williams ???

I’m tempted to clear my cookies and just vote over and over again for Christine Lahti, who is being robbed here, people!

Goldie Hawn almost had Lahti cut out of the film because she felt she stole it. Must have been great satisfaction for Lahti to get a nomination for it.

Peggy Ashcroft got put in Best Actress at some places. Do you think she was lead or supporting?

No Apolonnia for Purple Rain?

I like Lahti and love Jonathan Demme, but Swing Shift was super lame.

I sometimes get Christine Lahti and Joanna Cassidy mixed up.
