Why isn't Timothee Chalamet getting more Oscar traction?

He came close to winning last year. And Marhershala Ali just one two years ago!!! Not again.

(I enjoyed the meta casting of Timothy Hutton in Beautiful Boy, another troubled teenager movie.)

by Anonymousreply 97January 23, 2019 4:10 AM

I imagine his chances are going up after today's Green Book controversy.

by Anonymousreply 1January 10, 2019 4:47 AM

What happened with Green Book today?

by Anonymousreply 2January 10, 2019 4:58 AM
What happened with Green Book today?

the writer was exposed for tweeting in agreement with Trump that Muslims in Jersey City were cheering on 9/11

AND

a story about how the director "took it out" (to quote Elaine Bennis) when Cameron Diaz came to audition for a film surfaced

Not a great day for the film.

by Anonymousreply 3January 10, 2019 5:41 AM

Timothée is doing fine.

by Anonymousreply 4January 10, 2019 12:01 PM

Ali might have won before but people still don't know or care who he is. Everyone cares about Timmy.

by Anonymousreply 5January 10, 2019 12:02 PM

Not everyone, R5.

by Anonymousreply 6January 10, 2019 12:04 PM

I don’t .

by Anonymousreply 7January 10, 2019 12:05 PM

Because he's very unattractive and has been in a number of stinker movies. That's why OP.

by Anonymousreply 8January 10, 2019 12:06 PM

He is not attractive in any way.

by Anonymousreply 9January 10, 2019 12:30 PM
He came close to winning last year.

No. No he did not.

I work for Price Waterhouse and I assure you he came in last in the voting.

by Anonymousreply 10January 10, 2019 12:31 PM

He could have done Ratatooie and wouldn’t have needed to be animated.

by Anonymousreply 11January 10, 2019 12:33 PM
Everyone cares about Timmy.

[bold]No they don't.[/bold] Only the insane trolls on Datalounge care about him.

by Anonymousreply 12January 10, 2019 12:34 PM
Why isn't Timothee Chalamet getting more Oscar traction?

Doesn't suck enough dick. Or doesn't suck enough of the right dick.

by Anonymousreply 13January 10, 2019 12:35 PM

Well there was all those people he (allegedly) murdered. Including little Jimmy, who was two days from retirement.

by Anonymousreply 14January 10, 2019 12:35 PM

Chalamet is French for “punch me in the face, hard”

by Anonymousreply 15January 10, 2019 12:37 PM

It's such an ugly face too R15. Begging for it in fact!

by Anonymousreply 16January 10, 2019 12:44 PM

Lol the unhinged, myopic losers on this thread. Lol. He's perfect in every way.

by Anonymousreply 17January 10, 2019 1:14 PM
Lol the unhinged, myopic losers on this thread. Lol. He's perfect in every way.

God forbid he should hit puberty and start to look like a man. The DL boy-man lust society would cry themselves to sleep.

by Anonymousreply 18January 10, 2019 1:26 PM

Oh they do that anyway what with their floor to ceiling hoard of trash and their 600 pound life and their inability to get off the Lazy Boy without stepping on cat shit.

by Anonymousreply 19January 10, 2019 1:33 PM
I work for Price Waterhouse and I assure you he came in last in the voting.

This is a fucking lie. It's also called PricewaterhouseCoopers now (PwC), so you just gave up your game.

If anyone should beat Ali for the Oscar, it should be Richard E. Grant who delivers a pitch perfect in Can You Ever Forgive Me? I'm actually not counting him out for a surprise win.

by Anonymousreply 20January 10, 2019 1:56 PM

The movie overall got mediocre reviews and wasn’t a hit. Being the sole nominee for your movie is always difficult, lessened somewhat if you’re a veteran with an overdue narrative.

That said, he’ll still be nominated.

by Anonymousreply 21January 10, 2019 2:04 PM

Also I remember the same PW loon from last year trying the insider card. Lol, nice try Matt.

by Anonymousreply 22January 10, 2019 2:05 PM

Whatever R20. I work there. You don’t. What makes you think we call it that during work hours?

by Anonymousreply 23January 10, 2019 2:31 PM

He should get more. He wouldn't be the first no-talent to do so.

by Anonymousreply 24January 10, 2019 2:32 PM

R23, your posting history supports R22's assertion. Try again.

There's no way in hell that Chalamet came last place in voting in a category that featured in it Denzel Washington for the barely-seen Roman J. Israel, Esq. You can't even lie believably.

by Anonymousreply 25January 10, 2019 2:37 PM

Beautiful Boy is an overwrought mess.

by Anonymousreply 26January 10, 2019 3:39 PM

He came in last. All your pedo wishes and Cub Scout dreams won’t alter the fact.

by Anonymousreply 27January 10, 2019 3:40 PM

R27 the number of gay employees who are privy to the voting count can't be very many. When you factor in other attributes like spending working hours trolling Chalamet threads, being 600 pounds, it'd be easy to identify you. But not one person believes you work for PWC, reject.

by Anonymousreply 28January 10, 2019 3:58 PM

R329 he's intelligent and relatively new to this. So husband sensitivity causes the nerves to overreact sometimes. It's endearing. He's a breath of fresh air compared to most actors.

by Anonymousreply 29January 10, 2019 4:04 PM

^^ his not husband

by Anonymousreply 30January 10, 2019 4:05 PM

Better for him to wait and win best actor in the future

by Anonymousreply 31January 10, 2019 4:17 PM

Would the 800-lb hippo posting at R27 please report to the DataLounge Zoo as soon as possible?

by Anonymousreply 32January 10, 2019 4:26 PM

Love how I’ve triggered you pedo cunts.

Do continue spazzing.

by Anonymousreply 33January 10, 2019 4:28 PM

Honey at R33, you're not an insider if you're reporting that Chalamet received the lowest number of votes in Best Actor last year. There's not a fucking chance in hell that that is true.

I'm not a "pedo cunt" but I am a fan of his CMBYN performance and thought it was the clear best in that category. You're making up a job that you don't have. I would hasten to guess that you actually have no job whatsoever.

by Anonymousreply 34January 10, 2019 4:34 PM

Think what you want.

Facts are facts.

by Anonymousreply 35January 10, 2019 4:41 PM

He's young and he's got a long life of chances ahead of him.

The Academy is always trying to catch up with actors who've had decades of good product.

by Anonymousreply 36January 10, 2019 4:46 PM

R27, you type FAT. And you're very obviously lying.

by Anonymousreply 37January 10, 2019 4:48 PM

How long until Timothee transitions into Timberlee?

by Anonymousreply 38January 10, 2019 5:11 PM

I find him very talented and compelling on screen and I'd had for him to peak too soon. You ever notice how, once a lot of people win their Oscar, they stop taking as many risks in their work and get boring? After all, what do they have to prove now? I think Oscars should be delayed and not given to anyone under 30. It's not like people ever win for their true best performance anyway. They usually win because it's "their year" or they're long overdue. If Glenn Close wins her Oscar this year (and I hope to God she does), it's not because The Wife is wonderful movie or even her best work (although, she IS excellent in it). She'll win because, after a lifetime of stellar work, she fucking deserves it.

by Anonymousreply 39January 10, 2019 7:10 PM

I love how triggered you pedos are.

by Anonymousreply 40January 10, 2019 9:40 PM

He was the cleanest and most nicely groomed drug addict I've ever seen. His arms were filled with track marks but his hair and face were fine. They could at least got him a dirty shirt.

by Anonymousreply 41January 10, 2019 10:17 PM

Because Ali is frontrunning, while Grant is second in the race.

by Anonymousreply 42January 11, 2019 2:48 PM

His acting is dull and contrived.

by Anonymousreply 43January 20, 2019 4:49 PM

The director troubles won't effect Ali, Woody's problems didn't stop Cate from winning. The only thing stopping Ali is Grant. Timmy and fans should be happy for a nomination.

He should have lost another 10 pounds and insisted on druggier hair / makeup / costuming! He was playing a meth addict on the verge of death but looked like Elio with a few barely visible track marks.

by Anonymousreply 50January 22, 2019 3:05 PM

Perhaps they saw through the vanity theatre school performance Chalamet was putting on? His big Oscar scene was essentially what he was doing on stage in Prodigal Son.

It is strange though. He was nominated for every significant award leading up to the Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 54January 22, 2019 3:21 PM

Sadly, R54, many of his fangirls think he's Elio in real life when he's far from it.
And was a juvenile delinquent who terrorized his fellow apartment dwellers growing up.

What are the details on this?

by Anonymousreply 57January 22, 2019 4:02 PM

It was on yet one of the millions of Chalamet threads, r57.

by Anonymousreply 58January 22, 2019 4:04 PM

Well I'm hardly going to go through all of them, so can you not just post a summary?

by Anonymousreply 59January 22, 2019 4:05 PM

Summary especially for r59: he lives in an artist-subsidized building and has all his life where he was a terror who bullied other kids and had some kind of rage issues.

by Anonymousreply 60January 22, 2019 4:09 PM

Timmy =/= Elio

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 61January 22, 2019 4:15 PM

How much of an absolute pussy does someone have to be that Timothee Chalamet can bully them? He'd snap in half in a stiff breeze. I assume that's why you were trying to avoid summarising it, because it's sounds so ludicrous it's impossible to believe.

by Anonymousreply 62January 22, 2019 4:15 PM

based on what he has actually said himself, there may be a bit of truth because he's admitted to having a lot of issues growing up (behavioural by sounds of it) but, shock horror, people grow up and aren't the same as they were when they were kids

by Anonymousreply 63January 22, 2019 4:18 PM

r62, you don't think small kids can be bullies--especially to smaller kids?

by Anonymousreply 64January 22, 2019 4:21 PM

Maybe it's all because he can't act.

by Anonymousreply 65January 22, 2019 4:25 PM

That rap video makes him look like a little would-be thug.

by Anonymousreply 66January 22, 2019 4:29 PM

R64 Oh so now it's just younger kids? Because before you were saying he terrorized fellow apartment dwellers - but now you're reducing that down to kids smaller than him? I was just expecting more than some random claim he was a bully, you oversold it.

I am slightly hoping we do see a little breakdown from him. Despite the act it does seem he has an ego, and he's played the game, so be interesting to see if he reacts to the snub in anyway.

R61 It is funny how his fangirls act like they adore him, but hate so many different parts of his personality that they try and pretend it either doesn't exist or is an act. God, please let him be seen with the Weeknd again so they have a fit.

I didn’t say just younger kids—you did, r67. You said someone who’s small can’t be a bully. Awfully triggered, aren’t you?

by Anonymousreply 69January 22, 2019 4:31 PM

Timmy as a bully is hilarious. I like to picture him making boys suck his dick.

by Anonymousreply 70January 22, 2019 4:37 PM

R69 You said smaller - given he's already a wraith, it's hard to imagine much smaller than him without going younger. I also never said someone who's small can't be a bully. I said I found it a ludicrous idea in this case because TC is so weedy and pathetic.

As for being triggered...

by Anonymousreply 71January 22, 2019 4:39 PM

R70 It'd be the only way he'd be getting "dome daily" as he claimed in his little rap.

by Anonymousreply 72January 22, 2019 4:40 PM

I was surprised he was snubbed but he still has got a career most, if not all, actors under 25 would give their balls for.

by Anonymousreply 73January 22, 2019 4:46 PM

r73 has he? He's never had a box office hit.

by Anonymousreply 74January 22, 2019 4:48 PM

He has his pick of good film roles and is rich. Most young actors are poor or lucky to get a guest spot on NCIS

by Anonymousreply 75January 22, 2019 5:01 PM

No, r71, you're the one who blew it up and said it all can't be true because of his size. Do you really doubt smaller kids can't be bullies?

by Anonymousreply 76January 22, 2019 5:42 PM

How is Chalamet's ego handling it?

by Anonymousreply 77January 22, 2019 5:52 PM

I was convinced he'd get a nomination. He is very talented but I am sure there will be lots more opportunities so no need to despair.

by Anonymousreply 78January 22, 2019 6:03 PM

So where are those imbeciles that claimed that power of CMBYN from last year was enough to propel Swiss Chalet to second Oscar nomination?

by Anonymousreply 79January 22, 2019 7:17 PM

R76 I never said just because of his size though. That's just a strawman you invented. We're not talking about smaller kids in general, we're talking about one in particular. The idea he was a bully is ludicrous, and comes from a single source - a random poster on DL.

by Anonymousreply 80January 22, 2019 8:57 PM

r80 knows ALL. (No, actually, he knows no more than any other random poster.)

Anything else you'd like to weigh in on, r80? For instance, Timmie's childhood? You speak with such authority.

by Anonymousreply 81January 22, 2019 9:14 PM
[R80] knows ALL...You speak with such authority.

Says the person who stated as a fact:
And was a juvenile delinquent who terrorized his fellow apartment dwellers growing up.

by Anonymousreply 82January 22, 2019 9:16 PM

r82, that was on a thread where a few people who live in his building and know the family and/or I think live on his floor mentioned his history. It didn't come from me, you moron. If you choose not to believe people who live in the building and say they know, that's certainly your business. Someone here asked me what I remember reading, and I'm recounting it. Got it?

by Anonymousreply 83January 22, 2019 9:20 PM
If you choose not to believe people who claimed to have lived in the building without giving any proof

FTFY

For someone who didn't say it, you're getting awfully worked up over someone not believing it.

by Anonymousreply 84January 22, 2019 9:23 PM

You're hammering away as if I said it, when I didn't, r84. You're the one pursuing this. Sounds like you're the one getting worked up about anyone criticizing your boy Chalamet.

by Anonymousreply 85January 22, 2019 9:25 PM

R85 Ah yes, my boy Chalamet, who I've mocked in this very thread. Meanwhile, you're the one apparently following all of his threads to get these claims of bullying.

And no, I'm "hammering" (really, I can only imagine how delicate you must be if you think any of this has been hammering) away because you're just silly. You make this claim he terrorised people and is a juvenile delinquent, only reluctantly give some detail, and then try lying about what I said. Then, most hypocritically, you accuse me of acting as if I know everything about his life, when you're the one posting about his terrorising ways insisting they must have happened.

Like I said upthread, you oversold it. You tried too hard, with your talk of terrorising ways and juvenile delinquency.

by Anonymousreply 86January 22, 2019 9:35 PM

r86, it's pretty clear I was answering someone's question about what I read in another thread. Clearly, you have a dog in this race and I don't.

by Anonymousreply 87January 22, 2019 9:37 PM

R87 Except your claims of him being a juvenile delinquent who was terrorising people came before any questions were asked.

by Anonymousreply 88January 22, 2019 9:40 PM

Right, r88--based on what I read in another thread. I said that when someone asked.

by Anonymousreply 89January 22, 2019 9:43 PM

R89 Exactly, afterwards. However, before you posted that message, it looked like you were claiming it as fact. See how that works, or do you expect people to read your mind in addition to your posts?

by Anonymousreply 90January 22, 2019 9:47 PM

Hunty @ r90, people can write whatever they want here, however they want. You think you're some kind of prosecuting attorney here, and yet, oh no, you're not triggered at all--that's why you go on and on about it, swearing it just can't be--he's too small to be a bully! Why don't we talk about your weird obsession with Timmie that you claim you don't have?

by Anonymousreply 91January 22, 2019 9:53 PM

R91 An obsession, eh? I hope all these strawmen you create at least make you feel less lonely.

"Triggered", "hammering", "prosecuting attorney" - you really must live in some bubble if you think any posts here have reached anywhere near those levels.

by Anonymousreply 92January 22, 2019 9:58 PM

Sure, Jan at r92. Look, I'm sorry your obsession didn't get an Oscar nomination. Try and move on.
