I think he is in a very good position right now. I read today an interview with Lucas Hedges in an spanish film magazine (it was an online version because he talks about his broadway debut with the Manchester by the sea director, wanting to be in a comedy, and his lack of interest in superhero films because you have to commit for serveral films but nothing about Boy Erased or Ben is back) and after name him the most interesting young actor in Hollywood they inmediately add with Timothee Chalamet.

Dune is important to gave him the comercial blockbuster that will give his career a big impulse, but if he keeps mixing comercial roles in big budget films with small and more personal roles he will be ok even if the comercial ones don't be as successful as expected. Some actors make the mistake of wanting to be in big films once they have a break role that make them popular, but for someone who really can act lilke Timmy that's a bad strategy. A couple of flops and you are done. But doing more substantial roles in small films too give him oportunity to shine as an actor (BB had bad reviews but his work is recognized).

He needs to improve his skills on interviews, but he is very young and there's plenty of time for that. And find a balance in the expossure of his life is not easy. And you can go to awards ceremonies alone without a problem (of course that's easy when your movie is nominated because there will be some of your costars by your side). Going with Lily means questions about their relationship and he didn't seemed too thrilled with that on the GG

Tim could be a film star, but he has not the conventional look for that role. He could make it or not, but i think he is smart enough to keep options open. If comercial films fail he can still do the same Lucas will do.

We see all over the years a lot of young actors who were supposed to be the next big thing only to dissapear from the map. Tim has already a lot more recognition in terms of talent than most of them (in fact is quite unusual to get so many young actors who already received an oscar nomination). An actor career is made of ups and downs, but i don't think he is the type who dissapear just because one movie flops when was supposed to be a big hit.

And other good thing about him (and about Lucas) is that they seem to keep their feet on the ground. We have plenty examples of actors who become a nightmare after becoming successful (some of them even before that) but their fellows keep saying good things about them. Being profesional, nice and don't make problems on set is the best way to keep you busy with offers

I find that Lucas reveals more of him self in interviews then Timmy. He often talks about his lack of confidence, wanting to fit in with the cool crowd but also that he's funny and loves to dance. Tim is more attractive and his French side is brings a level of chicness to his persona but Lucas has the more steady personality. Being a Timmy fan I hope the whole LRD and fashion stuff doesn't make him over exposed.

Yeah he’s a nervous mess in these but people appreciate how genuine and real he is which is why instead of ridiculing his awkwardness people find him endearing.

The problem this year is that he is the only one who got attention from that movie. In other circumstances (with a movie better received by critics) he could be in those interviews with a costar which would make everything easier (unless the costar is equally akward).

People generally get better in this kind of things with time, but there are actors who are amazing at interviews from the beginning of their careers and others who are uncomfortable their whole career.

Keanu Reeves has a fame of being a very nice man, but a lot of interviewers don't have that impression because he is quite harsh on interviews, very deffenssive and with a lack of commitment with what he is doing

I thought he actually looked quite comfortable around Ellen, the only moment when he was a little bit more all over the place was when he told that story about his mom on the cruise boat and it wasn’t even that bad.

He is always hit or miss at these talk shows but he seems fine here. I have said it before but I do feel bad that he has been left out to dry by himself promoting this film. He has had zero support this whole season. I know he is the only thing that got traction but it still seems a bit sad. But I guess that's the business.

BB has been showing for months already. I think normally, HW actors (esp big stars like Carrell) would just promote their movies in the weeks prior to its showing, maybe a month or two after it's first shown, then they taper off the promoting. Carrell has a family, so he can't just go all over the country for months, attending endless q&a's, esp as he is probably aware his acting was not really universally praised (no chance for noms). BB will never be a box-office hit no matter how much promoting he does anyway, so after doing the minimum promoting as required in his contract, Carrell went sayonara. What Timmy is doing right now is more for his Oscar campaign (though of course it helps with promoting the movie as well). Armie was doing it for CMBYN last year, as he was also pushing to be nominated at that time. Minus the alleged tantrum he had in Italy when he found out he wasn't nominated for the Oscar, I believe that he also genuinely enjoyed promoting it in the company of Tim and Luca. I don't think Carrell really bonded as well with Tim and the BB director. Not that there's anything wrong with that or that there was a fight or something, as it may simply just have something to do with difference in their age, personality, etc.

I agree R545. Timothée wasn't left to fend for himself after the initial BB screenings and premieres. It's virtually certain that Carrell and Groeningen did their utmost at first to promote the movie, and when it became painfully obvious that their chances for any nominations were DOA, they bailed, and who can blame them. Amazon subsequently put the focus on Timmy for awards nominations, as it would mutually beneficial for both the studio and him.

As a clinical psychologist, I can tell you this young man suffers from severe anxiety. The good news is it isn't paired with depression, which is a dangerous combination. But, its obvious from interviews that he was pushed as a child to perform (most likely the mother, who had entertainment ambitions of her own, transferred to the children) and it wasn't until he was given the freedom to express himself artistically in high school that he started enjoying it for himself. But the anxiety didn't go away (it never does for most who suffer). This is the second recent interview where he mentions crying/weeping because of bad behavior or failure issues. He's an ambitious kid, he'll go far because he has the talent to take him there and it seems like he has good talent agent and public relations people. And as far as nerves go in interviews, so what? He is not obliged to be some kind of polished spokesperson like George Clooney (or even Armie or Steve Carrell). Amazon is doing some heavy lifting to get him an Oscar nom and they'll probably do it, but as far as others not helping with the promotion - in this case, its all about him. Fascinating to watch.

r548 100% agree. I suffer from anxiety and I see a lot of that in his behavior. And totally agree about his mom. I was thinking about that during the GGs. I get the feeling she was the typical stage mom, pushing him to become an actor even if at the beginning he maybe wasn't that interested. And my guess she was the type of mom who's constantly telling the kid they're exceptionally talented, smart and attractive and that they are capable of being famous and successful, which usually leads to anxiety when you're a perfectionist. She definitely wanted to be a star. I'm just glad they seem to get along just fine and that at least Tim seems to really enjoy both the craft and the fame. otherwise it would be a terrible combination of factors.

The first time he mentioned it was the audition for the movie White Boy Rick, when he said he "wept for hours" after he didn't get the role, the second mention was the Actors on Actors with Emma Stone, and then this recent Ellen interview. The guy is an emotionally intense and unique individual. A one in a million type of personality in a good way. He knows a HW career is full of extreme highs and lows, and hopefully, he always be prepared for that.

Sonetimes it really looks like Timothée is overacting his awkwardness and charm. It was nice last year when he was new at everything but now he can calm down already.

Timothée loves the fame, attention and adoration. But at the same time, it's like an out of body experience to him. He's lived his whole life on the opposite side of the fence as a fan, and now he's walking, talking and sitting among those he's adored as demi-gods most of his life. That's why there's a difference between being shy and having anxiety, and why some of us are saying he has anxiety, rather than him just being shy and awkward. Which he's not. He's not an introvert, he loves and craves attention. He just probably has an anxiety disorder and sometimes it just acts up.

Weed helps with anxiety, I know it calms me a lot. Maybe he should try some before these shows, just enough to help him calm down a bit.

It's obvious that it's not the same talking to a friend (in the video posted of the GG when he was talking with Lucas it's pretty clear he was carrying the conversation and the others were laughing) than an interview in front of cameras. There are hosts that are able to make feel comfortable and at ease, and others are just waiting a mistake (and like Sarah McLachlan said That it's one miss step, one slip, before you know it and there doesn't seem a way to be redeemed, and even less in this social media world)

I don't know if he'll necessarily keep it conventional at the Oscars. I hope not. His white tux/black boots combo last year was a bold choice and he looked brilliant in it, even if I didn't like it at first. It had people talking for weeks. I think he enjoys those statement pieces and that suit was a very smart move on his part.

Unless you have full details of his contract, we have no idea if he signed over all his red carpets to LV. I actually doubt it considering he’s been wearing various designers to carpets all year, including Palm Springs which was a few days before the globes.

I think the contract with LV has been going on a while, notice how he is wearing LV stuff in almost all his pap shoots (which is then advertised in the tabloid stories). Many people here said he had signed some sort of deal with the brand when that started.

He probably has a certain number of events to wear LV to, this was the 3rd time we’ve seen him in his stuff, but I don’t think it is exclusive.

He gets to be someone else and get out of his own skin, he gets to fail and try new things with each take and it’s ok, and he can express different feelings and emotions that are difficult for him. That’s just a few of the ways acting helps people with anxiety. Many well known actors have shared that they have problems with anxiety and that it is therapeutic for them.

R590 Jesse Eisenberg comes to mind. The difference is Jesse comes off as quite funny in his self deprecation. Tim just seems awkward. Then again he is very young and could maybe grow into himself and learn to deal with his anxiety in a more endearing way.

His cruise ship days with his mother sounds interesting. There 's more to his upbringing and family dynamics then what's been portrayed. His mom does seem like a wannabe entertainer who is living through her son.

What I find intriguing is that he almost never talks about his dad in comparison to how often he mentions his mom.

He's no where near as close to his father as his mother, at least in the public eye. He seems to go out of his way to avoid talking about his father. I wonder if dad insisted on him going to the middle school that he hated for three years of his life, and then, when his movie career was in doubt, dad also insisted that he go to college or he was on his own. Speculation.

Maybe his dad wasn’t as invested in his acting career as his mother was since she and her side of the family are in the industry and his dad isn’t, and it may have had repercussions on their relationship. Or maybe his dad just doesn’t want Tim to talk about him to protect his privacy which is perfectly understandable, who knows

(maybe dad was more realistic then, no matter how talented he is or how successful he's become. hollywood dreams are definitely a lottery, tho probably with worse odds.)
