Ginsburg missing Supreme Court arguments for FIRST time

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court says Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is missing arguments for the first time in more than 25 years as she recuperates from cancer surgery last month.

Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said Monday the 85-year-old Ginsburg is continuing to recuperate and work from home after doctors removed two cancerous growths from her left lung odn Dec. 21.

Ginsburg was discharged from a New York hospital on Dec. 25.

Ginsburg had two earlier cancer surgeries in 1999 and 2009 that did not cause her to miss court sessions. She also has broken ribs on at least two occasions.

The court said doctors found the growths on Ginsburg’s lung when she was being treated for fractured ribs she suffered in a fall at her office on Nov. 7.

The doctors have not been totally honest. It's almost over.

She is a workhorse, if she is feeling too ill to work, that is a very bad sign.

by Anonymousreply 1January 7, 2019 2:33 PM

Every left leaning person who didn't want to vote for Hillary because wasn't perfect is an idiot who doesn't understand the big picture.

Trump could very possibly have 3 justices on the Supreme Court soon.

by Anonymousreply 2January 7, 2019 2:39 PM

Is she on heavy medication? Why can't they set up a tele-work thing for her while she's getting better?

This is a really bad fucking sign.

by Anonymousreply 3January 7, 2019 2:42 PM

Exactly, R3.

by Anonymousreply 4January 7, 2019 3:55 PM

She's missing arguments, but not votes, right? Ruth isn't going to miss a vote the left has any chance of winning. And there aren't many of those these days.

by Anonymousreply 5January 7, 2019 4:52 PM

She should have fucking retired in 2012.

by Anonymousreply 6January 7, 2019 4:54 PM

So if Clarence Thomas retires, President Trump will be able to replace him with a younger justice. It's only a matter of time for Ginsburg, so 4 justices could be appointed.

by Anonymousreply 7January 7, 2019 5:11 PM

Can she still vote on cases if she's not present to hear all the arguments?

by Anonymousreply 8January 7, 2019 5:12 PM

The Dems will have to change the number of Justices, and stack the court in the favor of the left. It's been done before and is perfectly legal. The far right has wreaked enough havoc, it's time to put them back in their place.

by Anonymousreply 9January 7, 2019 5:16 PM

She has a great ass but she can't live forever.

by Anonymousreply 10January 7, 2019 5:30 PM

Ruth's probable replacement.

Amy Coney Barrett (born 1972) is a United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. She was previously a professor of law at Notre Dame Law School and the John M. Olin Fellow in Law at George Washington University Law School

Yes r8 and she did so only the other week.

by Anonymousreply 12January 9, 2019 4:07 AM

Fuck off with the RBG deathwatch posts, troll OP.

by Anonymousreply 13January 9, 2019 4:12 AM

She's fucking 85 years old. She can't live forever...it's not like she's only 65 or something...

The writing is on the wall. Her time is limited.

by Anonymousreply 14January 9, 2019 4:15 AM

And every single fucker he appoints will be impeached and removed when he is convicted of conspiring with a foreign power to defraud the United States of America.

by Anonymousreply 15January 9, 2019 4:24 AM

Ornithologists have observed something very interesting each time RBG leaves the house.

Limited yes r14 but seeing in another 2 years is far from impossible.

by Anonymousreply 17January 9, 2019 5:39 AM

I don't think it's fair to her. She should be concentrating 100% on her recovery. She isn't 21. She can't work and recover, it will slow the healing process, taxing and stressing her frail 85 yr body. I mean, what kind of meds is she on? How do we know it doesn't affect her brain and thinking process? Maybe she is weak and tired all the time and isn't as sharp or remember the facts etc.

by Anonymousreply 18January 9, 2019 5:51 AM

Well ultimately r18 It will be her decision if it is too much for her or not. I am not advocating that she should be forced to stay in position .

by Anonymousreply 19January 9, 2019 5:53 AM

I fully believe that she has told her family that if she dies while Trump is anywhere near the White House, they are to fill the bed with ice, sit her in it, and tell everyone she's napping.

by Anonymousreply 20January 9, 2019 6:48 AM

TMZ has the first video of Ginsburg since undergoing surgery. The view is mostly blocked by the limo door but from what I can see she appears not quite comatose.

I love RBG, but she's been falling asleep during court for years, and she's been frail for a long time. That whole Colbert show segment where she was working out was totally cringe. And you can hardly understand anything she says.

by Anonymousreply 22January 12, 2019 4:55 AM

R9 It has never been done to change the idealogical or partisan makeup of the court. The one time it was floated to do that was FDR in 1937, and even he coming off of a landslide election victory in 1936, and with overwhelming Democratic control of Congress and popular support for his New Deal policies that were being overturned, could never get above around 40% of the public to back his proposal.

What you are advocating, is exactly what many on the Left keep accusing Trump of, disregard for the norms of governance and respect for the institutions of government.

by Anonymousreply 23January 12, 2019 5:09 AM

Her fractured ribs are from bone metastasis from lung cancer. They discovered the cancer when she sought treatment for broken ribs. It was the cancer that had caused the fractures.

She's doing her damnedest to stay alive. I salute her.
