Careers Ruined by #MeToo - Dustin Hoffman

Nothing in production. No projects in development. After 55 years, his career is seemingly over.

by Anonymousreply 100May 12, 2019 3:56 PM

Well, Hoffman is over 80, so he was probably planning to slow down anyway.

by Anonymousreply 1January 7, 2019 3:56 AM

He got away with shit for decades. At 80, time was definitely up for him.

I have no sympathy for this asshole.

by Anonymousreply 2January 7, 2019 3:58 AM

It's my Sicilian curse; he's been lulled into a false sense of security for decade after decade. And now...BAM! Career over.

by Anonymousreply 3January 7, 2019 3:59 AM

I know a woman he pawed more than once while she worked on one of the films he was in, back in the 80s. He wanted to be invited to the woman's apartment. This was not between his marriages, either. He was already married to his second wife.

by Anonymousreply 4January 7, 2019 4:02 AM

He's been with his second wife since 1980, so has she known about his activities with other women?

by Anonymousreply 5January 7, 2019 4:03 AM

Only himself to blame really.

by Anonymousreply 6January 7, 2019 4:10 AM

Awesome actor who's a creepy horndog too.

by Anonymousreply 7January 7, 2019 4:15 AM

It’s not like he’s been burning up the screen lately anyway.

by Anonymousreply 8January 7, 2019 4:18 AM

Jill Messick, manager of RM aka the Noble Bald One, who committed suicide after RM publicly scapegoated her for the whole Harvey thing. For all her fierce woke feminism, RM just loves scapegoating other women, just look at how she still rambles on about Meryl.

by Anonymousreply 9January 7, 2019 4:20 AM

Whoops, misunderstood the headline. I thought we were listing careers ruined by me too, not just Hoffman. My bad.

by Anonymousreply 10January 7, 2019 4:22 AM

Who the fuck is RM?

by Anonymousreply 11January 7, 2019 4:24 AM

Clue: a thorn by any other name....

by Anonymousreply 12January 7, 2019 4:26 AM

R11 data lounge won't let me write her name. Picture a bald activist, who at one point lived a "charmed " existence but now spends all her time criticizing people on twitter. Some of those grievances are legit, some are not.

by Anonymousreply 13January 7, 2019 4:28 AM

I thought maybe the RM troll has died... sigh.

by Anonymousreply 14January 7, 2019 4:30 AM

Rita Moreno, R11.

by Anonymousreply 15January 7, 2019 4:36 AM

Rows Mick Ow Win

by Anonymousreply 16January 7, 2019 4:37 AM

Ryan Seacrest sailed through his accusations. I haven't heard anyone even mention them in regards to him.

by Anonymousreply 17January 7, 2019 4:53 AM

Al Franken

by Anonymousreply 18January 7, 2019 4:53 AM

Talking about R*se M*G*wan and JM is a sure way to get a thread shut down. I wish the RM/JM troll would stop.

Or I guess they're trying to shut down the thread on purpose, who knows.

by Anonymousreply 19January 7, 2019 4:54 AM

I started the thread because Hoffman is a legendary actor who has worked continuously for 55 years. And then his career ends without any media comment on it at all. It's just over.

But as others have said he can only blame himself.

by Anonymousreply 20January 7, 2019 4:56 AM

Who js JM?

by Anonymousreply 21January 7, 2019 4:59 AM

For the most part, metoo is ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 22January 7, 2019 5:03 AM

R21, see R9

by Anonymousreply 23January 7, 2019 5:06 AM

Jesus, stop answering the "who's this? who's that?" troll. If they can't follow a conversation, fuck 'em.

by Anonymousreply 24January 7, 2019 5:07 AM

The last thing I heard about Hoffman was when Bill Murray said something like "sure he's a flirt, but he's decent."

But he was already out of the Medici show before this happened, because the 2nd season was set in the future, and prior to that he wasn't doing much work anyway. Not since 2014, really. It's been mostly voiceover work since.

by Anonymousreply 25January 7, 2019 5:10 AM

Ive been critical of certain aspects of me too, but for Hoffman, zero sympathy. I cried listening to one of his victims. He was really awful, and arrogant. Plus, he had a fine career. Bye bye Dusty.

by Anonymousreply 26January 7, 2019 5:12 AM

Thanks, r23.

Go fuck yourself, r24, cause lord only knows nobody else will.

by Anonymousreply 27January 7, 2019 5:13 AM

Spacey duh

by Anonymousreply 28January 7, 2019 5:14 AM

Weinstein.

by Anonymousreply 29January 7, 2019 5:14 AM

I loved 'Tootsie', and when DH made that movie he talked and talked in interviews about how 'aware' he had become about finally realizing how men really treat women, and how much sympathy he gained for women. Too bad it was bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 30January 7, 2019 5:15 AM

R30, Teri Garr wasn't impressed by those comments.

"They put a man in a dress, and he's supposed to know what it feels like to be a woman. But of course he doesn't. I think what Dustin [Hoffman] says is, "I realize now how important it is for a woman to be pretty. And I wasn't pretty." God! That's all you realized? Jesus Christ. Oh well. Don't quote me. Actually, quote me."

by Anonymousreply 31January 7, 2019 5:18 AM

Yeah, I've always heard that Dustin Hoffman was one of the biggest assholes in Hollywood and recall the rumor that one of the makeup people on "Tootsie" quit in a huff one day because of how nasty he was to her. (She allegedly cursed him out before leaving, however, lol.)

by Anonymousreply 32January 7, 2019 5:19 AM

He famously slapped Meryl during their first filmed scene of KRAMER VS KRAMER because he didn't think she would give the right performance unless he hit her.

by Anonymousreply 33January 7, 2019 5:23 AM

One of the weirdest interviews I ever saw with Hoffman was on Charlie Rose. At the time, I had no clue what both of them had in common. They were talking about friendships with women. Hoffman turned morose and started crying (!), claiming he had deep regrets about all the women he ignored and tuned out during his life because he wasn't sexually attracted to them. He admitted on TV that he disregarded any female he didn't want to sleep with. Of course, he claimed he'd changed and gross Charlie Rose seemed to pat him on the back. The whole interview made my skin crawl. Now I know why.

by Anonymousreply 34January 7, 2019 5:32 AM

TO R17..Ryan Semenquest is a "BIG HOMO" She still wants to make people believe she is "str8" and likes PUSSY Who is that QUEER FOOLING?i I want to now how much Miss Ryan paid her? What a Gay Moron....SAD FAG

by Anonymousreply 35January 7, 2019 5:33 AM

Some of Hoffman's best acting was done in his interviews.

by Anonymousreply 36January 7, 2019 5:35 AM

R34, that Charlie Rose interview with Hoffman talking about women does sound weird.

by Anonymousreply 37January 7, 2019 5:45 AM

He was also handsy with men, too.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 38January 7, 2019 5:47 AM

R38 does he swing both ways?

by Anonymousreply 39January 7, 2019 5:52 AM

DUSTIN HOFFMAN WAS OUT-OF-WORK BEFORE #MeToo!

by Anonymousreply 40January 7, 2019 9:45 AM

Dustin was an incredible pig during his heyday and I'm glad that hasn't been swept under the rug. That said, I hated the way John Oliver went after him at whatever panel that was. I thought it was completely inappropriate and he was so smug and self-righteous that I can't stand him now either.

by Anonymousreply 41January 7, 2019 9:52 AM

Oh, how awful that a wealthy, famous sex creep isn’t working in his 80s. This is the shit that bothers you today?

I really wish baby boomers would all just drop dead tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 42January 7, 2019 11:13 AM

Uck Fay Im Hay

by Anonymousreply 43January 7, 2019 11:26 AM

Creepy little piglet eyes.

by Anonymousreply 44January 7, 2019 11:27 AM

Good.

by Anonymousreply 45January 7, 2019 11:29 AM

I hated Tootsie and Kramer vs. Kramer. But, Dustin Hoffman was brilliant in The Graduate.

I wish he wasn't revealed to be such a perv.

by Anonymousreply 46January 7, 2019 11:57 AM

Time for a Bernie Focker movie :-)

by Anonymousreply 47January 7, 2019 4:27 PM

There was gossip -- I probably read it on DL -- that they canceled the HBO series 'Luck', that Hoffman was the star of, because he had a drinking problem. He couldn't function and the network pulled the plug.

And that was 2012.

by Anonymousreply 48January 7, 2019 5:16 PM

Career still dead.

by Anonymousreply 49May 12, 2019 6:05 AM

He's overrated.

by Anonymousreply 50May 12, 2019 6:14 AM

I love Tootsie and Rain Man but Hoffman is an asshole.

It's like Constance Wu. Your shitty behaviour is going to catch up to you. With her, it was sooner than later, unlike Hoffman, who won 2 Oscars and collected multiple pay checks.

by Anonymousreply 51May 12, 2019 6:32 AM

He and Emma Thompson were in a cheesy romantic comedy about ten years ago. It was watchable because of their performances.

by Anonymousreply 52May 12, 2019 6:44 AM

I'm not quite sure that Hoffman's career was ruined by me too, the allegations occurred long after his hey day had gone by. I don't recall them being mentioned as often as the accusations against other famous men either.

by Anonymousreply 53May 12, 2019 6:49 AM

[quote] Don't quote me. Actually, quote me

I can hear that whole speech in Terri's (pre-illness) voice. That would have made a great scene.

by Anonymousreply 54May 12, 2019 6:49 AM

R33, he's lucky Kate Jackson didn't get that role then.

by Anonymousreply 55May 12, 2019 6:53 AM

Oh, puh-LEEZ, R33, you're talking about M! To paraphrase Flannery O'Connor, she'dve been a good woman, if somebody had been there to shoot her every day of her life.

by Anonymousreply 56May 12, 2019 6:53 AM

R55 Fun fact. You're wrong because the reason Kate was in heavy contention for the role at that time is she was dating Hoffman.

by Anonymousreply 57May 12, 2019 7:06 AM

He can be very good. But he seems very aware he's a good actor. That ruins him for me.

by Anonymousreply 58May 12, 2019 7:07 AM

Will he be seeing Tootsie on Broadway?

Julia Roberts attended a performance of Pretty Woman.

by Anonymousreply 59May 12, 2019 7:08 AM

R46, What about "Midnight Cowboy"?

by Anonymousreply 60May 12, 2019 7:11 AM

Wasn't Geoffrey Rush's career ruined?

by Anonymousreply 61May 12, 2019 7:15 AM

Hate him. Have always hated him. He’s a nightmare to work with and an ugly shithead midget to boot. Fuck hum.

by Anonymousreply 62May 12, 2019 7:20 AM

*him

by Anonymousreply 63May 12, 2019 7:20 AM

I thought everybody realized Dustin was pretty much playing himself in the early part of Toosie. The impossible to work with actor who always thought he knew best and consequently everybody hated to be around.

by Anonymousreply 64May 12, 2019 7:23 AM

Laurence Olivier scoffed at his method acting during the filming of "Marathon Man".

by Anonymousreply 65May 12, 2019 7:36 AM

Hoffman stayed awake for 24 hours just so he could play the scene where his character stays awake for 24 hours. Olivier's response was, "It'd be so much easier if he just acted it."

by Anonymousreply 66May 12, 2019 7:39 AM

Dustin Hoffman is a fantastic actor and he's had a brilliant career. My opinion of his talent hasn't changed, but I can no longer admire him the way I used to. Just depressing.

by Anonymousreply 67May 12, 2019 7:55 AM

But he’s so schticky. I remember him doing exposition in Stranger than Fiction and doing this over the top eating/furiously spooning yoghurt/trying to distract from having to spell things out to the audience. He’s so tiresome.

by Anonymousreply 68May 12, 2019 9:17 AM

The fact that Kate Jackson once dated Dustin Hoffman is the most surprising thing I've heard all week.

How utterly fucking random.

by Anonymousreply 69May 12, 2019 10:15 AM

I've always been creeped out by his teeny-weeny piggly eyes. They seem too small for his head.

by Anonymousreply 70May 12, 2019 10:19 AM

He has an Italian film in post-production on IMDb.

by Anonymousreply 71May 12, 2019 10:20 AM

Weren't pretty much all the male actors of Hoffman's generation behavior in very similar ways? Much has changed culturally in the last 30 or 40 years . I'm not sure any man who worked in the entertainment industry during that time didn't make at least a few untoward advances . Was there really anyone who came out of that era completely clean?

by Anonymousreply 72May 12, 2019 10:24 AM

Gene Hackman and Robert Duvall were friends with Hoffman as they started their acting careers at the same time. I don't recall any bad stories about Duvall, and Hackman's bad reputation is more to do with being difficult with directors.

by Anonymousreply 73May 12, 2019 10:29 AM

I laugh at the self righteous on this board. Hoffman never raped or assaulted anyone. Innapropriate touching is not nice, but how many people on here, especially on the gay scene have never groped someone's bum etc especially when drunk? I know I have.

by Anonymousreply 74May 12, 2019 10:52 AM

I've had my ass groped by gay men in bars all the time.....and a few times by women . IT annoyed me but it's just part of life snowflakes.

by Anonymousreply 75May 12, 2019 10:56 AM

r75 = Jew

by Anonymousreply 76May 12, 2019 11:00 AM

R76=shitstain

by Anonymousreply 77May 12, 2019 11:08 AM

I'd love to know how many guys on here have groped a guy without consent. My guess is a lot.

by Anonymousreply 78May 12, 2019 11:09 AM

Career ruined? He’s almost 80.

by Anonymousreply 79May 12, 2019 11:11 AM

Dustin Hoffman is an entitled little pig who has groped and assaulted women on his various jobs for decades and everyone in the business knows it. None of which has anything to do with the #MeToo movement. He did it all on his own.

by Anonymousreply 80May 12, 2019 11:14 AM

R80 who did he assault, and how? Please back up with evidence.

by Anonymousreply 81May 12, 2019 11:23 AM

I can’t believe his defenders have shown up to protect his honour. He’s 80, he got away with it for his entire career. If he never works again it probably makes no difference to him. He got away with it, isn’t that enough for you?

by Anonymousreply 82May 12, 2019 11:30 AM

About time, too! The guy is ancient!

by Anonymousreply 83May 12, 2019 11:40 AM

What did he do? Apart from touch a few boobs?

by Anonymousreply 84May 12, 2019 11:41 AM

R73, Hoffman and Hackman were roommates in NYC.

by Anonymousreply 85May 12, 2019 11:52 AM

He's not "almost 80." He'll be 82 in August.

He does have one film "Man in the Labyrinth" waiting for release. Asshole though he is, he did have a long and distinguished career, with two Oscars, and if nothing else comes up for him, it's not exactly a disaster for him.

by Anonymousreply 86May 12, 2019 11:54 AM

The me too movement has done more harm than good. It has gotten to be ridiculous. When Al Frankin lost his job, that was absurd and I will never vote for Gillibrand because of it.

by Anonymousreply 87May 12, 2019 11:57 AM

Actually it’s done nothing much r87, the perverts are still behaving badly. Except for some old men hollywood was dying to kick out the door anyway, which allowed people in power to exploit the me too movement as an excuse to kick them to the curb , it’s business as usual.

by Anonymousreply 88May 12, 2019 12:13 PM

He was beautiful in The Graduate.

by Anonymousreply 89May 12, 2019 12:27 PM

[quote]No projects in development. After 55 years, his career is seemingly over.

It's fascinating that for a lot of these folks whose careers have been decimated by their behavior that many comments focus on "after 55 years" or "after a lifetime of..." without noting that had their terrible behavior been made known at the time it occurred, their long and storied careers wouldn't have been either.

Take Cosby. If his drugging and raping of women had been known in the 60s or 70s, the criminal justice system was not kind to black men who were (and some who weren't) rapists. He certainly would never have been allowed to create and star in a family show like The Cosby Show. He would have been a forgotten footnote who voiced Fat Albert.

by Anonymousreply 90May 12, 2019 12:41 PM

Good.

Also: So what?

by Anonymousreply 91May 12, 2019 2:01 PM

[quote]When Al Frankin lost his job

Franken didn't lose his job. He was scapegoated out of it by the Dems with Gillibrand leading the mob.

by Anonymousreply 92May 12, 2019 2:07 PM

Didn’t one of the women claim his finger penetrated her no-no?

by Anonymousreply 93May 12, 2019 2:23 PM

"The me too movement has done more harm than good."

The men who think they can act like douches and never be held accountable have done and continue to do harm. Without them, metoo wouldn't exist. But, by all means, blame the women cause that makes sense to you, apparently.

by Anonymousreply 94May 12, 2019 2:33 PM

Cosby was already a star from I Spy before The Cosby Show, but sure, he wouldn't have got that either if his actions had been known before 1965.

by Anonymousreply 95May 12, 2019 2:46 PM

So they enabled his rapes out of guilt.

by Anonymousreply 96May 12, 2019 3:01 PM

M deserved what she got from him.

by Anonymousreply 97May 12, 2019 3:02 PM

[quote]who did he assault, and how? Please back up with evidence.

Oh look -- Jewish court, again.

by Anonymousreply 98May 12, 2019 3:44 PM

So many men feel so entitled to try the goodies. Oh, and that's regardless of race.

by Anonymousreply 99May 12, 2019 3:51 PM

[quote] Cosby was already a star from I Spy before The Cosby Show, but sure, he wouldn't have got that either if his actions had been known before 1965.

NBC wouldn't have given him a sitcom if they hadn't been desperate for a Top 10 ratings hit. They already had a bunch of sitcoms that ranked in the middle of the Nielsen Ratings by that point and some Emmy-winning dramas, so those kept them from going under altogether. But their only other Top 10 hit was [italic]The A-Team[/italic], and every new fall show the year before [italic]Cosby[/italic] was a flop, and NBC's Thursday night sitcoms — they let [italic]Fame[/italic] go to first-run syndication — were regularly coming in second to CBS's dramas.
