The many (pretty, pretty) faces of Billy Russo.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 5, 2019 11:40 AM |
That face better not mean that Jigsaw won't get his fuck on in S2!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 5, 2019 5:05 PM |
I don't know why it would be that radically bad if the creative team is the same. Unless they just don't have a story to tell.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 5, 2019 7:12 PM |
There is a such thing as a sophomore slump. Daredevil suffered from one. Generally it happens when the creative team bites off more than they can chew and starts expanding the world by adding more characters or by needlessly expanding on the story. Frank just needs an antagonist or antagonists that he can kill and that's it. It's a simple show.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 5, 2019 11:30 PM |
But season 1 wasn’t so simple, r1. The road to The Punisher was such a long, tedious one.
They’ve established him and now they have to turn him loose. The show will live or die based on whether they do. He needs to face extremely powerful, utter scumbags, and he needs to scythe them down.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 6, 2019 1:57 AM |
Meant r5^^^
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 6, 2019 1:57 AM |
I’ve just read that the second season is gong to have Castle “traveling across the country he’s been fighting for.”
Putting that absurd concept aside, it suggests that, if anything, the second season is going to be even lighter on battle than the first was. Ugh.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 6, 2019 8:05 PM |
Road trip across the USA with Frank Castle? Yeah, that does sound potentially bad. Like he'll stop and find widows and orphans in every small town and help them out.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 7, 2019 9:43 PM |
Someone refresh my memory. Where does Punisher fit in with the second season of Daredevil? Does DDs2 come first, or TPs1?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 8, 2019 3:35 PM |
Punisher S1 took place after season 2 of DD.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 8, 2019 4:13 PM |
Has to be annoying for the cast to promote the show when they know it is getting cancelled either way.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 8, 2019 4:16 PM |
How do you know that for a fact, r12? Is Marvel ditching on Netflix altogether?
Thanks r11, I thought so but it's been a while.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 8, 2019 4:18 PM |
What will be annoying is every reporter asking the cast if there will be a third season which they don't definitively know even though it's a sure thing there won't be one, but they can't say that.
The season has been filmed and they can only focus on what they've done with this season.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 8, 2019 5:24 PM |
Wait, the article linked above does not say it's a sure thing The Punisher (or JJ) will be canceled.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 8, 2019 5:28 PM |
Disney is rolling out their own streaming site and have been letting their Netflix contracts and contracts with other entities lapse. And because in keeping with the brand Disney isn't inclined to have gritty fare like Jessica Jones and Punisher they will surely not renew bring them over to their site.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 8, 2019 5:41 PM |
So why would they expire the ones on Netflix if they are too gritty to air on Disney?
Also the article did not suggest that Marvel content would not air on the new streaming site. In fact, the article says that some of the old Newtflix Marvel titles might (eventually) see their way to the new channel (after a cooling off period, see below).
The article actually specifies that, unlike the other franchises, the "The Punisher" franchise is not subject to a 2 year waiting period on the new channel if it's scrubbed from Marvel. So they could literally switch to The Punisher right after it's dropped from Netflix.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 8, 2019 9:02 PM |
[quote]So why would they expire the ones on Netflix if they are too gritty to air on Disney?
Why would they give their competitor content?
And from Netflix's point of view, why would they air and pay for their competitor's content?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 9, 2019 5:47 AM |
Jon Bernthal is hot as hell and looks like he'd fuck roughly. I'm so thirsty for him
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 9, 2019 6:06 AM |
[quote]Why would they give their competitor content?
Depends -- if they can't air it on their own platform, and they are getting paid so that someone else can, that would certainly be a reason.
[quote]And from Netflix's point of view, why would they air and pay for their competitor's content?
To get subscribers, like with any other show they broadcast? It's not their competitor's content if the competitor is not airing it. Anyway, platforms air their "competitor's content" all the time. I watch AMC cable dramas on Amazon Instant rather than on AMC, because I hate commercials. I pay $15 or something like that for a season so I can watch it whenever I want and commercial free. Amazon gets my $15. AMC I believe gets paid by Amazon for the content.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 9, 2019 4:27 PM |
That poor soul who refuses to believe this show and JJ are goners. You are probably the only person on the planet who has refused to accept it.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 9, 2019 4:29 PM |
Netflix just canceled 3 out of their 5 Marvel shows (Luke Cage, Daredevil, and the awful one whose name escapes me). Pretty sure they’re getting rid of all of them, and The Punisher is unfortunately next (I really enjoyed the first season, so I’m gutted).
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 9, 2019 6:42 PM |
Bernthal shirtlessness, please?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 9, 2019 7:20 PM |
I was surprised by the cancellation of Daredevil but the other two, not so much.
Luke Cage was very awkward. The Netflix Marvel stories were less fantastical and tried really hard to be gritty, but Marvel is not amazing at telling adult stories and the Luke Cage storyline in particular felt to me like a smart fifteen year old pretending to be an adult.
The other one was so awful it was literally unwatchable.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 10, 2019 4:55 PM |
Jon Bernthal is a chunky hunky.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 10, 2019 8:58 PM |
Season 2 trailer. Like someone said, looks like he's traveling around helping damsels.
Old 'Alice in Chains' song this time, because it's ALWAYS the gram and gritty 90s in the Punisherverse!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 11, 2019 12:40 PM |
I tried watching the first episode but it was so full of cliches I ended up fastforwarding through most of it. The fights scenes were so formulaic I felt bad for the makers. Tired stuff all around.
R29, it's hard to imagine Bernthal in homoerotic situations when he's got three small kids and he just a few weeks ago opened up about one of them being in coma.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 18, 2019 12:49 PM |
I love Jon Bernthal 's beautiful ape face. Neanderthals make the sexiest men!
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 18, 2019 12:56 PM |
Andrew Lincoln is drop dead gorgeous, and Jon still managed to edge him out as the sexier one on Walking Dead.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 18, 2019 1:02 PM |
Andrew Lincoln is a muchkin. Bernthal got him on height alone.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 18, 2019 1:09 PM |
R17 Disney now owns the majority stake in Hulu so the Marvel shows will probably end up there.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 18, 2019 1:37 PM |
Was about to post that Bernthal is too missing link to be hot but I see someone else agrees. What would you say, 20% Neanderthal?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 18, 2019 1:46 PM |
[quote]I tried watching the first episode but it was so full of cliches I ended up fastforwarding through most of it.
Right -- I've said many times that this grittier, more realistic Marvel on Netflix is something of a joke. Marvel is greasy kids stuff, fantasy, action/violence and sci fi. They don't do gritty and realistic very well, so with the toned down supernatural stuff/violence, what's left? Not much, but awkward attempts at being powerful drama. like a 16 year old trying very hard to act like a 40 year old.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 18, 2019 4:32 PM |
I’d subscribe to a service offering Jon Bernthal’s ballsac sweat.
Can Disney offer that during the non-competitor clause period?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 18, 2019 8:16 PM |
R30, you have no imagination, that's your problem.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 18, 2019 8:57 PM |
R38, I do actually pair hot guys constantly in my personal fantasies. I didn't do it much when younger but now when I'm in my 40s and a single for a long time I enjoy doing it. Unfortunately daddy with a sick kid is a total dick wilter. Bernthal can be super sexy but there's something off-putting about him as well.
[quote][R17] Disney now owns the majority stake in Hulu so the Marvel shows will probably end up there.
"Variety reports there is a clause in the deal between Netflix and Marvel that prevents the latter from including the characters in new TV shows or films for two years after cancellation. That means Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist cannot appear in a Disney-made production until 2020 at the earliest - and it would be very late into 2020."
Because of this clause it's quite possible or even probable we won't be seeing Daredevil and other Netflix/Marvel characters in their current form and with the same actors ever again.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 19, 2019 4:26 PM |
R36 No. Daredevil has been good. As has Punisher season one and Luke Cage The rest of it has been sleep inducing garbage. Jessica Jones is unwatchable.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 19, 2019 4:50 PM |
R39 Two years is not that long. Some of the shows will eventually end up on Hulu. There is a demand and Disney will fulfill that demand when the time comes.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 19, 2019 4:52 PM |
Iron Fist season one was the only truly crappy season of any of these shows.
Season two almost redeemed it and I was actually looking forward to a season three.

I'm now just skipping and watching the Ben Barnes parts, and even that's a drag. Silly storyline, bad writing all around.

I haven't watched it yet, r64, but from what I have read, r63 is right about at least the writing.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 22, 2019 1:43 PM |
Damn this is boring. Been binge watching it since this afternoon and my focus keeps straying. The friggin Sopranos marathon from a couple weeks ago held my attention better and I’ve seen those episodes a hundred times each.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | January 23, 2019 11:54 PM |
Sopranos is a masterpiece. Mad Men is a masterpiece. The Wire is a masterpiece. Game of Thrones is a masterpiece. This other stuff is just filler. It's fun. It's interesting, but it's not in the same league.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 24, 2019 12:09 AM |
My point was that you’d think a group of episodes I’d never seen before would have the edge over something I watched a million times.
I wouldn’t even describe this as fun and interesting. Usually when a season is nearing the end, I start dreading that it will soon be over. Instead I’m disappointed that there’s 13 episodes of this and I’ve got four more to go.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 24, 2019 12:19 AM |
I'm glad I watched this season but it was a chore to get through. I hit episode ten and almost tapped out over the idea of watching three more episodes. It wasn't as bad to me as Daredevil's second season, though.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 24, 2019 4:16 AM |
Viewership was down this season.
Data from analytics firm Jumpshot, provided to Business Insider, shows that viewership for Netflix's "The Punisher" dropped by 40% from its first to second season weekend premieres. That's still not as severe as the drop for Netflix's canceled Marvel shows, "Luke Cage," "Iron Fist," and "Daredevil." Each of those shows dropped by over 60% in first weekend viewership for their most recent seasons, according to Jumpshot.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | January 25, 2019 5:38 AM |
Everyone binges when they come out. The more popular the show, the more people binge it in the first week. So dropping a lot from week 1 to week 2 seems to be sorta expected of DareDevil. For this, fewer people felt compelled to watch it IMMEDIATELY, so the viewership is more spread out.
With Binge shows, I'm not sure what the "week over week" ratings comparisons actually means. I would think the only thing that would matter is total viewership over a longer period of time.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | January 25, 2019 5:40 AM |
I really enjoyed most of what season 2 had to offer, and Ben was amazing as someone off the rails.

It's official. Just as we all knew, Netflix has cancelled Punisher and Jessica Jones.
Netflix is officially no longer producing Marvel's live-action shows. The streaming service has reportedly cancelled both The Punisher and Jessica Jones, according to Deadline, with the latter's third season set to debut as the last batch of Marvel live-action episodes on Netflix.
"We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning," a Netflix representative told the outlet. CNET has reached out to Netflix, who did not immediately return comment.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | February 18, 2019 4:50 PM |
The end of an era, for sure. Oh, how brightly they shone in the beginning, before they started to become repetitive. And not because of Netflix who listened to the audiences and the critics and wanted shorter, tighter seasons, but Disney refused.
I'm going to miss Cox, Ritter, and Bernthal. The other two didn't grab me as much. Shame about the Daughters of the Dragon, though.

Fascinating. Any chance the casts could be reassembled for continuation on Disney?
Netflix canceled JJ before an upcoming season even aired? That’s monumentally stupid—like telling people not to bother watching.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | February 18, 2019 6:07 PM |
r82 Little chance of them being reassembled on Disney's new platform.
[quote]The execs have already said they don't want these shows on the Disney service. And even if they did, the nature of the contracts would make it virtually impossible. They're done.
And yeah, it's a weird decision to announce it this early. They should have waited a week after Jessica Jones premieres and announce it then, while not spending a single dime on advertising. But apparently the ratings for Punisher season 2 were really bad because of the cancellation sword hanging over its head, so they might have thought people will tune into Jessica Jones more now that the uncertainty is gone, and just enjoy one final ride in that universe.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | February 18, 2019 6:21 PM |
Disney is contractually forbidden from resuscitating these series elsewhere.
An expected demise for an ugly corporate divorce, but Netflix needed to send a message to its competitors not to fuck with it.

[Quote] That’s monumentally stupid—like telling people not to bother watching.

by Anonymous | reply 85 | February 18, 2019 6:28 PM |
There is a contractual cooling off period of 2 years before Disney can use any of Marvel Netflix characters and Kevin F. has said that he has plans for Daredevil, Iron Fist and Luke Cage.
