Chalamet and Hedges along with Ansel Elgort have been the most prominent actors of their generation in American cinema for the past couple of years. I think they're all talented and it'll be interesting to see how their careers develops. I do agree with [84] that there's more pressure on Chalamet to make the big score and become a star in a big-budget, mass audience mainstream hit. He's got the rabid following while Hedges is more low-key steadily working and acquiring his own fan base. Elgort is out of the spotlight now, but has some major films coming up in the next two years. Chalamet has family connections in the business too, but the intensity of the media focus on him makes the stakes seem higher somehow.

Ansel has a huge film with the Spielberg remake of West Side Story. Tim has the equally big remake of Dune. Both are going to be scary as to how they will be received. The sci-fi fans are a very picky lot and Dune is a complicated story to do well and appeal to a mass audience

R88: Those three have thing in common, unlike other times where actors were named the future of Hollywood these three can act, so i expect they last (with ups and dows, even more given how young they are). But they are very different. Ansel had mainstream success from the beginning of his career, he obviously had leading man potential, and could get commercial roles, action films or ron coms, I doubt that's the future of the other two. Lucas has a very very low public profile, he is well connected, he chose his films carefully but in my opinion he has (at least not now) any interest in becoming a big star in the conventional sense. He seems to want a career with interesting roles and build a reputation as serious actor. I was not impressed with his messy "coming out", i think it was self serving and calculated, but even with that, if he wanted the big mainstream roles in blockbusters he probably would avoid saying he is not totally straight (even that the rumours always said he was not straight at all).

And good for him because i don't think he has what it takes to attact mass audiences. I find him attractive but in a weird sense (well he describes himself as weird too, something that it's not exactly destined to appeal the masses) but more suited to play a stalkerish neighbour or a fetichist friend obsessed with the protagonista than the main character in a rom com.

And Tim is somewhere in the middle, as Lucas i don't think he has the mass appeal to be the it boy in blockbusters, but unlike Lucas he seems very interested in it. He better use his acting chops selling his pr relationship to the masses because we all know that bearding end backfiring for some actors. Dune will be a real test. That novel is difficult to addapt, sci fi fans are hardocre and they are not shy expressing their dislike. So if he is successful maybe he'll have a chance.

Anyway the three could make a career (commercially successful or not) because they can really act. And sometimes a movie because a hit out of nowhere. The best they can do is not burn their chances expossing too much their lives. Sometimes that kind of publicity comes back to bite you in the ass, and they are young so they should be patient

Ansel all American and Lucas boy next door. One film gooers can aspire for and the other they can relate to. Tim because he’s so talented and attractive is in a different category which is still being figured out.

I think the three are ambitious but in a diffirent way. Ansel seems to come accross as annoying in some interviews, he has a Shia Labeauf vibe. Of the three he is the one who knows what it is to have comercial appeal. He has classical good looks and can act, but the truth is every season appears an actor of tro of his characteristics.

Lucas is ambitious on a different way. And his "messy" coming out shows it, the way he put the words, not totally straight but not gay, gives the impression that hey he is straight but he had a crush on a gay in the third grade and he is very open minded so he keeps the options open when the truth is all rumours about him were in the total opposite direction. And the fact that he foes to public places with a girl (i don't know if she is a friend or supposedly more than that) when he generally has a very low profile, makes me think the move was totally calculated (avoid any backlash for playing gay characters all the time but keeping a public straight persona). The coming out was not what you expect from someone who seems articulate but it serves him well, avoid the backlash for playing gay characters, put at rest the gay rumours (now he is a member of the lgbt) an basically let him do with his public life whatever he wants. He doesn't even need to beard, he only needs to show himself with a girl and let the gossip magazines speculate.

Tim maybe has the charisma and good looks (i'm of the few that don't find particularly attractive), but in my opinion his good looks are not of mass appeal. I don't doubt girls will love him (hey, girls loved Boy George back in the 80's) but i don't think he appeals to straight male young audiences at all. He seems to tone downs the flower suits, but he needs way more than that. Maybe if Dune is a big success he will become popular between the nerdy boys who like sci fi, but i still can envision him as a new Leo or Brad.

About their looks, I think it's not that Tim is so much better looking than Lucas or Ansel, it's that he is pretty like usually young actresses/ it girls are.
