Why are all QVC hosts drunk?
Having grown up with two alcoholic parents has equipped me with a finely tuned antenna for intoxication. I can always tell when someone has been drinking. So, why are all QVC hosts drunk on-air? Is there an alcoholic culture at the network? That's the only thing that could explain it. I can't imagine what it's like working there and being on-air talent.
The only two hosts that never seemed outwardly drunk were David Venable and Lisa Robertson. I'm watching Mary Beth Roe right now and it's obvious she's been drinking.

Why do people in the US confuse people who have had a drink for being drunk, not everybody who drinks is an alcoholic.
No wonder we loaded your puritan asses on the ships 400 years ago.

Mary Beth’s not drunk. She’s from Minnesota where they all sound like that.

R2 are workers in Europe allowed to drink a bottle of wine and go to work? No? Cause that's what's going on at QVC.

Kerstin Lindquist is sloshed on the regular. Definitely blowing well over .08

The only host I watch is David Venable. Glad to hear OP doesn't opine DV is outwardly drunk. I never thought DV seemed drunk, even when selling wines on air.

I think some people are better at handling live TV than others. David's personality doesn't seem to be one to need alcohol to sell his wares on-air.

Immediately the drunks, in the form of R1 and R2, start defending one of their own.
Drinking on the job is totally unprofessional, no matter what your job is. I trust OP's intuition.

R1 I was never judging, it just seemed curious to me. There must be something going on at QVC HQ that encourages and looks the other way at this behavior. I know I couldn't sell hideous Sketchers sneakers for over an hour while sober but neither can their hosts.

Are there any gay guys besides Dave on QVC?

R12 check out Alberti on Friday Night Beauty.

Have you ever watched the nework, R12? The number of gay hosts might be dwindling but there are plenty of presenters who are gay. Take the guy from Halston, for starters.

R5 It's not unusual for people who aren't working with machinery to drink at lunchtime and then return to work anywhere in Western Europe, don't think that anyone even cares what job they have in Eastern Europe.

I used to love the big bear guy that had his own clothing line on QVC but I can't remember his name, he looked a bit like the pro-wrestler Goldberg.

David V. must have been tipsy on air last weekend.
During a product demonstration last weekend, he was joined by DL fav MarkDavidCharles. At the end of the segment, David V. commented about he he'd wished for a "Hawt Santa" this year.

I have a friend who used to model for them. They're in the middle of nowhere and have to sometimes be on air at like 3 am. My friend was lucky, she just had to smile. The hosts have to be informative and chipper, regardless of the hour.

R18, I was watching that presentation but don't remember DV saying anything about a "Hawt Santa." I'll take your word on that. I really admire DV. He is so professional and exudes warmth and is always explaining and selling the product.

That Alberti is so plucked and preened he looks like one of those Disney animatronics.

^ At the end of the segment, he'd said something about hearing the approach of reindeers with a 'Hawt Santa."
I actually had to press Rewind on my remote to make certain I'd heard what I thought I heard: Yes. No doubt.

R19 they're outside of Philly in Main Line territory. West Chester may not be NYC but it's hardly the middle of nowhere.

My Brother did a training placement at Proctor & Gamble in Lazio (Italy) where they had a choice of beer or wine with lunch, working with some pretty dangerous (fast) machinery also.

Yeah, Europeans typically drink beer or wine at lunch and go back to work. As long as you can function, it's fine. Obviously, if you're passing out at your desk and pissing yourself that isn't okay.
In the US, that used to be the case (Mad Men, anyone?) but the culture has changed a lot in the last 40 years. It's still very much encouraged to get blotto anytime you aren't working, though ("It's wine o'clock!").
I would need to maintain a buzz to do what those hosts do, no question. Wouldn't be surprised if they provide free or cheap wine and beer in the green room to keep the hosts happy and loquacious. That's what they do in talk show green rooms to loosen up the guests.

Thats gotta be the case, R30. So many times the celebrirty presenters (Jessica Simpson, Josie Maran) have been totally sloshed on-air while selling their goods. It's gotta be stressful knowing that it's live.

Josie Maran is drunk here but the host is not. Surprised Josie never got fake Hollywood veneers and kept her real teeth.

It's one thing to have a glass of wine or beer at lunch when you're on the job. No one cares about that. But when your job is to sell products on the air in front of a huge audience, live?
If you can't handle that without getting all tipsy first, you should find another job.
Of course I assume that you have to be high to watch QVC in the first place so I suppose it doesn't matter.
