DL Hugley: "The Gay Community are becoming bullies"
@ 1:31
- He also says that no-one is immune to jokes.
- Said the LGBT community moved forward not because they were activists but because of Ellen, Will & Grace etc. in which people laughed with and at them.
- In regards to transgenders, he said if they want people to fight for them, then they should fight for others aswell.

He has real issues with gay people. Because gay people were told to fuck off for defending ourselves (again), and we did fuck off (again), he’s really driving that nail in. He’s reminding us of our place. The next person who calls us f-ggots or makes AIDS jokes will tell us to fuck off and we will. And, DL Hughley will remind us of our place again.

In the English speaking world you have an obsession with the word community. We are not a community. I don't know you and you don't know me to be called community. We are people with a trait that the population vilifies and dehumanises to deny us our rights as human beings. Calling everything community brings wrong assumption that people a homogeneous that they live as closed group of people which is false.
I empathise with other people who are hmosexual like me and want equal rights for them all across the globe, but that doesn't make me community with anybody.

Hughley makes it clear that he does not support gay marriage or “the gay lifestyle” but that he also doesn’t support the government’s interfering with its citizens’ affairs (in the way that Prop 8 did). It’s an interesting discussion.

by Anonymous | reply 43 | December 19, 2018 6:36 PM

r41 is right.
Black people always refuse to laugh at themselves when white comedians and artists talk about racial issues. On the contrary, they analyze every sentence, every word spoken by the "whitie", in search of something that is "problematic" and by which he or she can be condemned and marginalized from the public milieu.
Take, for example, blackface: why has it become such a sin for a white person to simply put on dark make-up on his or her face? Because black people react (or, one might say, over-react) to anything that might be construed as a joke at their expense.
And black people who suddenly take libertarian positions when it comes to black homophobia, saying that homophobia is an integral part of comedy-making, never say anything on the excessive and violent reactions from the black community to "racist" jokes by white celebrities.
And by the way, why should we keep pretending that blackface is a such a heinous act of bigotry, when straight blacks still find humor in gay-bashing stories, including stories (like the one told by Kevin Hart) in which parents beat their sons for thinking they might be gay?
I would like to draw attention from this DJ Hughey or whatever, that "Ellen" and "Will & Grace" never tried to find humor in the mere fact that gay adults and effeminate boys are victims of homophobic violence. I do not doubt that it is possible for comedians to address this question (and tragic issues in general) in a way that is satisfactory from the point of view of comedy (and its general purpose, to make people laugh), without having a negative effect in the ability of different communities to coexist without violence. But for that, it would be necessary for the comedian to be sympathetic to the cause of the people who suffer homophobic violence, and this does not apply to Kevin Hart. On the contrary, Kevin Hart's jokes are told from the point of view of a father who practices homophobic violence against his own son and even the latter's peers.
Any kind of comedy made from this point of view would have the opposite effect of "Ellen" and "Will & Grace" - it would have the effect of justifying the kind of violence described. Which is much worse than such things as "blackface".

R61: People are always going to prioritize identity, always have. That was well before intersectionality became a thing. This is not new. What is sad more than anything is the expectation from certain high-ranking black Americans in entertainment that we need to prioritize their liberation over anyone else's, and gay liberation can be ignored because of Leviticus (as though there are no black gays and lesbians who are hurt by what Kevin Hart says).
At the same time, since black Americans are adamant they won't vote based on issues of sex and gender but rather race and class, they are not the enemy that white Bible Bangers are, as they are dedicated to our eradication.

It is seen as a white problem, and there are hundreds of thousands of threads about it here. But, again, challenging black homophobia is problematic and difficult for the gay community because of the of obsessive whataboutism plus—gays seem apathetic towards non-white homophobia. Because gays seem to fail to challenge blacks (or Muslims) about their homophobia most of the time, I’d prefer white Republicans because gays are more galvanized against white Republicans (or white homophobes) as opposed to blacks, Muslims, etc.

That's because those older men fought alongside other racial minorities for gay rights when gays didn't have any rights or protections. The reason a lot of gays focus on calling out black homophobia is because black homophobia is directly in many of our backyards: urban environments.
Whites in our major cities are largely liberal and not at odds with us over gay rights issues. Poor blacks (and other minority groups) ARE so I don't know why people act so surprised when many of us get pissy/upset over the minority double-standard when it comes to homophobia. The "whatabout!!!" arguments about white deplorables in the square states doesn't resonate because 1. WE KNOW and 2. we moved away from those towns for a reason.
Gays and lesbians MOVED to large cities and created concentrated communities to keep away from the local politics of rural, white, religious-based homophobia. Poor white homophobia isn't our "problematic" issue in our big, blue cities. Blacks obsessed with hating whites/gays (and SJWs will always argue that gays = white with white privilege) has a more direct impact on the local level than voters in the collar counties and beyond do.
We left the white rural homophobes. We can't leave the urban black ones.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | December 20, 2018 6:39 PM

But for many or most people on the globe, homophobia will never be problematic or disturbing because homosexuality is at root about sex, a type of sex that violates their most sacred religious and moral beliefs. That will not change.

Excellent post r111.
That used to be the case in Britain too, but the attitudes of white British people towards homosexuality have changed dramatically over the last 20 years, helped by the fact that most Brits are secular and/or atheists. Sure, once in a while a gay couple will be turned away from some remote B+B, or an evangelical registrar will refuse to perform a gay wedding, but for the most part religion plays no role in the lives of white Brits.
As things stand, wherever you are in the UK, the source of homophobic abuse is far more likely to be muslim, black, eastern european or gypsy. London is now the most homophobic place in the country, despite the huge gay community there.

If anyone doubts the degree of homophobia at Lipstick Alley or any other urban gossip site, I suggest that you visit and make a post in which you say that blacks and gays should have each others' backs since they are both marginalized groups.
You won't believe your eyes.

Not wanting to hijack the thread... but try suggesting on r/GenderCritical than women and gay men should support each other too.
They hate us.
There is no 'your struggle is my struggle'. They don't support Trump, but they don't support us either.

Defends a comedian who jokes about bullying his kids into being/"acting" straight, encourages violence towards children perceived to be gay. Calls gay people bullies. Of course, heterosexual society and several self-flagellating gays nod in agreement.

The 'gender critical' feminists who range from conservative Christian ladies to the more radical lesbian side, who have invaded these forums to preach about gay male misogyny and transgenderism. Surely you've noticed them.

R117 I stopped involving myself in the radfem/gender crit discussions when I realized a lot of them, about half, were homophobes. They want us to speak out about the trans issue eroding women's rights but consider us part of the oppressive patriarchal system. Large amounts of them just transitioned from campaigning against gay marriage/adoption straight into the transgender issue, which is sad, because I actually see how it negatively impacts gay rights and women's rights. They REALLY hate us for surrogacy (even though heterosexual couples are the primary users of surrogates) and the idea of a child being raised without a mother, period. I suspect all the old "drag kids" threads are being bumped here by one of them, which is another thing that drives them nuts. Drag queens reading to kids, also...

Thanks R121 - I thought you meant another community. Yikes. Anyhow, it seems like when a group wants to unify one faction and kick out another, the remaining faction also splits into two or more conflicting interests.
Imagine LGB kicking out the T, then the B, and when there’s only LG left (or GL, depending on who wins the “us first” battle) you can bet there will be the same irreconcilable differences that straight men and women have with each other. Cats and dogs.

But the "we're all in this together" belief is held only by white gay men.

[quote]The reason a lot of gays focus on calling out black homophobia is because black homophobia is directly in many of our backyards: urban environments ... Whites in our major cities are largely liberal and not at odds with us over gay rights issues.
What is r111 smoking? Black people don’t Donald Trump and Roy Moore. White people, including in places like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin do. Always try to blame blacks. Proposition 8 in California for example was passed by white evangelicals and Mormons, but blacks got blamed. A majority of white women voted for Trump, but blacks got blamed for not turning out for Hillary in Obama numbers. Kanye’s support for Trump is completely at odds with the black community. Trumpers like Chris Pratt and Kid Rock are representative of a solid MAJORITY of white people

The Gay Community are bullies. You only have to come onto Datalounge to see this . I have been coming here for 20 years and the the things I have heard Gay people say about effeminate Gay people or women makes me blush.
People are bullied into silence here all the time.. You can’t take criticism., just read through the responses on this thread.
It is much easier for you to yell the words bigot , Russian bot , fascist than believe a Gay person has a different opinion than you. They must be a fascist or a troll if they think differently than the majority.
Notice how in threads like these no on really says anything different to the majority of posts. That is not because you are right or even that the majority believe in what you say . It is because people know what happens when someone dares to express an opinion different to the loudest voices . You yell fascist and troll and block.
I was bullied for years at school for being Gay and called a faggot nearly every day, I can tell a bully a mile away . The Gay Community can be bullies fact . Datalounge is full of bullies fact.

Most of the women on gen crit are lesbians and there are even a few of us gay men on there *gasp* But seeing the way that lesbian was kicked off the LGBT council in Baltimore thanks to the votes of two gay men, I can see why the gals at gen crit are salty.
I’m gonna guess you’re trans or just a plain ol’ misogynist. Your misinformation against our lesbian sisters inane wanted here.

R142 - Just pouring you some truth tea, honeybuns. My point was whites - IN URBAN CITIES NEAR GAYS. Not overall. Stop making excuses for overwhelming black homophobia.
And yes, blacks (and other inner city minorities) are responsible for the victory of Prop 8, as well as the gay marriage ban in states like Michigan. Michigan is an interesting example, because Wayne County (Black Detroit) voted FOR banning gay marriage. And when Michigan banned affirmative action, what county voted AGAINST banning that? Oh, Wayne county (Detroit again).
The only counties that voted against banning both measures both times? Ingham and Washtenaw: college towns and counties that are largely educated and white.
Stop making excuses for black homophobia. We know that rural/exurban/suburban whites are bigoted. Stop making excuses for black behavior with "but but but!"

Gay people are always stifled when they defend themselves. I see it going back to the 80s with Kinison, Dice Clay, Arsenio Hall—people siding with Kevin Hart or Hughley like R144 who’s taken his time to bash gays and use f-ggot in his post— is sad and unfortunate, but that’s something gays have always had to deal with. Now, if Hart or Hughley were politicians, that’s something entirely different. If gay people speak up against a homophobic black or Muslim politician, and they are told to fuck off and people side them—that’s disastrous for gay people. Those individuals legislate and I’m just bidding my time for newly elected Muslim Democrats to start legislating against gay people in some fashion, and there won’t be a thing gay people will do about it because 1, they don’t want to be accused of racism, and they will be like they are here, and 2, gays don’t have a lot of power against these groups, and they know it.
