Cher is a bit of an Untouchable. Don't think I've really seen her badmouthed that much on DL. We make jokes about her surviving with the roaches after the Apocalypse and the fact she seems a bit "frozen" when it comes to movement, but nothing really mean.

I was just about to say Angela Lansbury seems to get a lot of love, except from the trolls who insist she can't sing.

Considering a lot of the unflattering press she had the latter part of her career, Mary Tyler Moore.

by Anonymousreply 33December 18, 2018 10:15 PM

Angela Lansbury thinks it’s okay for actresses to put out and be used. I’m okay with old people saying shit, as they do. Shirley MacLaine is the best at it. But Angela is not cool...I don’t care how she sings!

Almost everyone has their naysayers.

But I've either started or participated in some classic DL threads (over the years) that went ON forever about fabulous ballsy women largely forgotten by the masses: Suzanne Pleshette, Lee Remick, Jill Clayburgh, Liz Montgomery (goddess!), Angie Dickenson , Phoebe Cates (notably, a few years back), Joan Hackett, so many others--and overwhelmingly, there was great affection and respect shared for these funny, talented, beautiful if imperfect women.

It warms my heart. Example? Joan Hackett was a smart, talented, lovely, but troubled and very private person. She died in 1983-she was only 49. She'd probably be thrilled that a handful of gays even knew who she was, much less had assembled a highly debated catalogue raisonee of her work.

Pointless bitchery + culture love + brains? It's why I come back here at all.

PS: that is tiny Suzanne, a fabulous broad if ever there was one, turning the shit out....

Granted, it isn't a nice story, but it happened like 55 years ago, and CB and Hamilton split 35 years ago, so you'd think there wouldn't be anybody around who's still incensed about it.
