I’ve lost both of my parents and I’ve never counted the days that they were gone. I don’t know anyone who has done that. Yes, on the anniversary of their deaths my siblings have mentioned the anniversary but none of us ever ever counted the number of days that they were gone. Meghan is very creepy. My prediction for the Wed, Jan 2nd new show is that by 11:04 The Heiress McCain will be bemoaning how awful the holidays were without her taken too soon dad. She will then angrily get on her soap box and in her snippy, annoying voice will blather on about her crusade to destigmatize grief and anyone who doesn't like hearing about her grief can piss off because she is, you know, The Heiress McCain and she has a contract and isn't going anywhere.

This tantrum I predict will be followed by The Heiress Huntsman announcing her pregnancy. Someone on another forum made an observation about MyDadMeghan that makes sense and may explain a lot of the cutting to commercial.

They said that when she first came on the show she expressed her admiration for Hasselbitch and even mentioned the whole split screen thing between Hasselbitch and Rosie. They feel she wants the fame of her own split screen moment with Joy that will in turn make her a hero with the Fox audience who hate Joy. Every time she tries to create a big moment for herself, they deny her it and cut to commercial She's chomping at the bit for her split screen showdown, can't have it and sits there and stews in her anger.

If TPTB are in fact denying this brat her split screen, then I commend them for at least doing that. I would commend them even more if they would fire her miserable ass.

R121 Yes, about the camera. Abby is attractive but she looked more attractive on Fox. She looked hot back then and now she is just "attractive." I think it has partly to do with her body changing, partly to do with getting older, and yes, partly to do with the View cameras getting more up close shots of her which shows that she does have some weird (untelegenic) features (eyes close together, small head, long face) that you didn't see as much when she was on the couch at Fox surrounded by other hosts and without the tight close to distract from her face. Oh dear. I had a dream about my deceased mother last night. She’s been gone 2 years and 3 months but I would absolutely never post that drivel publicly no matter how raw the hurt can be at times. Her mother lost her husband and her 106 y/o grandmother outlived her child. They aren't whining & making the death a carny event for public consumption.

After my parents died I was left with a lot of pain & regret. My therapist told me to buy a journal and pour it all onto those pages.

Once I got all of the emotions out on the page the therapist told me to go to their graves, read the journals to them the burn them at the graveside.

I’m going to go on record and say that Whoopi is a fucking drag on The View, for a host of reasons. One- her weird alliance with Meghan makes me uncomfortable. She blatantly favors her at the expense of other panelists. She also has some bizarre opinions and she will always have the stain of being a rape apologist. Yes the Duke players were falsely accused- and that was awful. But she acts like that isn’t the exception. She’s also lazy and phones in a lot of the shows. And when she does show energy, she does that weird fake laugh as she’s reading from the teleprompter. It’s all very off putting. I enjoy The View despite her.

I understand grieving and missing a death of a loved one, but it's over the top...almost like there was more to the relationship than meets the eye. Moogan does have other siblings and a mother. You never hear about them. Grief is intense, and most people carry on, not speaking about it constantly... only confiding with family and close friends, or a therapist. The general public doesn't need or want to hear it all the time. With her, it's just a way to focus attention to herself, trying to milk sympathy from everyone. I've always thought Whoopi was an odd choice for this role. Meredith and Barbara were both good at it (Meredith was better & the cohosts weren't as overtly scared of her). I always get the sense that Whoopi is mainly on the show just to talk to the celebrities who come on. She can barely articulate a thought or bother showing interest for the rest of it (aside from flailingly trying to gather her thoughts when criticising "the dude in the white house"), but when an actor or director or comic or musician comes on, she truly glows and gets all excited and childlike. She *genuinely* wants them to come back, to spend more time with them, etc. and transforms into a more articulate, personable human. It's nice to watch but also kind of sad really.

Since Hollywood won't let her be a part of any of these interesting/prestige projects they come to The View to talk about (they never knew what to do with her talent), and since her own talk show was cancelled despite strong reviews and deep conversations, I always feel like that's the part of the show she stays for. One of the main problems with Whoopi is how unprepared she is. Page 6 said she has it in her contract that she doesn't have to attend the pre-show meetings where they discuss the show & Hot Topics.

It's obvious that she wings it. Sometimes that works (with celebs & politics that have gotten A LOT of outside focus). She fails when it's a true HOT topic that may have broke overnight or yesterday. With the Idiot in Chief something breaks every day and she's ill prepared.

I always feel a little bad for the celebs who clearly do not watch the show and take it to heart when Whoopi tells them to “come back anytime! We don’t see enough of you!” She says that to every single celebrity guest and once in a while you see someone absolutely beam, thinking “Whoopi Goldberg wants to spend more time with ME?!!”

Somw guest on the show a month or so ago said something along the lines of, “Hey! What a spontaneous and unplanned topic to discuss!” All the women cracked up. That amused me.

I remember an interview where she said that, even at the height of her fame when she was a major box office draw in the 90s and a recent Oscar winner, she frequently sent letters to the likes of the Coen Bros, Neil Jordan, John Singleton, Woody Allen, Tarantino, basically every good director of that era in Hollywood offering to play any part, no matter how small in one of their films. Because she couldn't understand why nobody wanted to work with her (after she came up under Spielberg and Mike Nichols) and why she had to appear in so many childrens movies (especially since she was quite an edgy comic).

Apparently the only one who responded was Robert Altman who gave her a part in The Player (which she was acclaimed for). It's just like now when she raves to the heavens about Tyler Perry because he's the only one who will give her a legitimate acting part (not just a cameo playing some version of herself).

Yeah, the only thing I remember Whoopi getting in trouble for was what R347 says, which cost her a Slim Fast ad. Commercials reputedly pay very well, and it certainly cost her the celebrity likability factor and surely seems to have been a lesson that she has applied forward about not being too quick to condemn people based on contentious comments. I’m sure it hurt her stock in Hollywood, but I doubt it did in her career. It may have, though, ended the Whoopi zeitgeist, and once something so novel is no longer a fad, it can be hard to reintroduce that thing to society.

Whoopi has the capacity to be a great actress, even in unlikely roles. She captivated me as a kid when she played Guinan on Star Trek. I think I watched it mainly hoping she would make an appearance.

But the Hollywood “likability” thing can be everything insofar as landing work and getting high pay. When I was young, I remember getting a survey from an agency about—wait for it—Bill Cosby, “America’s most trusted star.” Really. Basically, it asked a series of questions about how much I like Cosby, how much I trust what he says, and whether I would buy X, Y or Z products if he endorsed them. I was about 20 at the time and thought, “The pudding guy...why should I ‘trust’ him? Why shouldn’t I? What do I care? So this is how people get commercials.” In retrospect, I’ve wondered whether he was being litigated at the time and this could have been a covert way to test whether news of him settling for sexual assault might blow over because he is so trusted by the public.

Lots of people have turned on Whoopi because she defended Mel Gibson even after insane video came out (“He is a good friend, and that is not the Mel I know!”) and Bill Cosby before the verdict was in, which she later defended on the grounds of not judging people prematurely. Since she was burned by people misinterpreting her intentions, I can understand why she would be resistant to some extent to acknowledging truth about people she knows/admires, but she certainly has put herself in a position for that to seem hypocritical. She can discuss and debate and judge everything except the people about whom she is biased. That has been unfortunate to watch unfold on The View. She really was a completely unique actress who carried some quality of mystery, and now she sells weird shoes and sweatshirts on TV and, worst of all, acts as a guard dog for Meghan McCain, snapping at anyone who criticizes her and fawning over her idiotic words and tantrums. Yuck.

Wow...I just watched the show's beginning on YouTube. Meghan started off in a horrible mood, angry, on edge, interrupting, talking over everyone. Well, actually, that's pretty normal for her. But then, when out of nowhere, she shouted "I'm John McCain's daughter, ...." and pounded the table. Joy's mouth hung open with a WTF expression. Then, when Joy said "I'm Gino Occhiutu's daughter", the audience ERUPTED in laughter. Meghan actually shut up and looked stunned for a second. Maybe it was the audience's laughter that brought her down to reality and made her realize how ridiculous that reference to Daddy was. Even Sunny was suppressing her laughter. Then Whoopi says "I'm Whoopi Goldberg, and we're going to commercial." She should have said, "I'm Robert Johnson's daughter, and we're going to commercial". As the show went to break and the camera panned around the table, Joy was smiling and chatting, while Meghan appeared to be snowing.

I still don't understand the logic of taking away two lanes of traffic to some of the busiest roadways like the approach to the 59th Street Bridge or one of the tunnels. It's created a traffic nightmare in these areas. There's no real way for commercial traffic to load or unload without taking up a third lane of traffic, hailing a cab is now a nightmare. Bike traffic is two way even on one way streets so while you may have the light with auto traffic, bike traffic will come at you from unexpected directions.

She took most of the heat from the press during her tenure, but her opinions provoked arguments and made the show successful. I don’t like any of her opinions, but from a strict casting perspective, she was the perfect fit on the show, which has become evident since she was fired. No one else has managed to fill the conservative-but-personable-with-good-castmate-rapport role as well as she did. I loved Nicolle and liked Jed, but neither felt as natural a fit as EH did.

And after all those years, EH was seemingly abruptly and coldly fired. It’s entertainment, and that happens, but if I were in her position, I would not contribute to a book that 1) serves to promote and ultimately lionize the employer that treated me like trash in the end, and 2) which likely would end up depicting me as a self-created victim who wallows in faux self-pity. I don’t think there is any way she could have benefited from participating in the book. The author and publisher would profit, and she would only be discussed in the media in a negative light.

All the above may read as if I have some affinity for EH. I really don’t. I do recognize her role in the show’s success and frankly the network’s thankless rejection of her after many years. If I were in her position (rejected by an employer I served well for years and then “invited” back to benefit it years later), I would want to design my own side of the story, too, and not freely contribute quotes to be worked into someone else’s narrative.

Ana is getting married in March...Abby will be going on maternity leave after Ana is married. I don't understand why Whoopi is even there. She has flat-out said to the press that she just shows up for the paycheck. It's so obvious she doesn't care, and she's only giving 50%. The show has so much more energy when Joy moderates. Having been a radio talk show host, Joy is a better fit as moderator. Whoopi would probably be happy to sit back, save her energy, and only speak when asked a question.

I agree that Whoopi is not into it anymore.. and gives 50 percent. She basically sits there, maybe chimes in once in a while.. basically she just announces the commercial breaks.

Whoopi has severe glaucoma. She talks about it all the time. She says she can’t read books anymore; it’s why she talks all the time about audiobooks. She also talked about medical marijuana a lot when it was still kind of taboo, saying it was a necessary treatment for her deteriorating eyes. She IS a pothead and proud of it, but her eyes are going on her. That’s why she squints and stammers. When sweet Sara was on the show she would jump in and read the prompter for Whoopi when Whoopi was struggling to see. No one else does that, and Whoopi plays it off by being jokey or just saying “I can’t read that. We’ll be back.”

Why the show would make her the moderator who has to read from the prompter is beyond me, but I resent the people here who suggest she is too stupid or inattentive to read. The woman has won all the major awards for reading and memorizing scripts all her life. She has profound vision loss.

The Marriott Marquis hotel in Times Square has a restaurant called “The View” whose logo looks disconcertingly similar to the talk show logo. I was there for a conference recently and everyone was asking if it has something to do with the show.

It’s interesting to me Whoopi’s houses seem to be designed with stark white walls and lots of dark wood. They make me think of the whitewashed homes of Virginia colonists I saw in Williamsburg and Jamestown recently. I guess it makes sense since she always wants to wear starchy white oversized shirts because, she has said, white shirts feel “clean” to her. I won’t even mention the thoughts that run through my mind re Whoopi’s white-feels-cleaner mindset. But she also has this whimsical side and wears (and sells) brightly colored holiday sweaters and gaudy/tacky/fun shoes, and I don’t see any of that personality in her home designs. It feels like her personality is missing.

Yeah.. I would think Whoopi's taste would be more funky and whimsical. Maybe the homes were staged, with most of her decor gone, but they looked pretty traditional.

I have adopted the term “brown” from changing social dialogue that more correctly refers to black people as brown people, and which includes all non-white people, whether they’re Latin or Asian or American Indian or Middle Eastern or anything else that’s not European. Tyra Banks uses the term “brown.” And what I was saying is that I thought Banks had developed a version of The View that, yes, was a format ripoff like The Talk, but which was intended to appeal to and focus on issues that appeal to American women who are not necessarily the white-lady target audience of The View. Despite having cast Whoopi and Sunny, The View doesn’t address a lot of minority interests.

As for the look of Whoopis homes. Whoopi is a true artist and she can't be pinned down to what we thought or think her personal homes would look like. Her style is definitely funky and artsy, but maybe she likes for her homes to be more calming soothing and a place to just relax and be at peace.

Tyra launched the show (FabLife) but it was very brief. People seemed to like it in the comments on the article, though.

I have always liked Tyra’s onscreen presence. I am aware that her production staff and many of the ANTM models said she was a mega-bitch, etc., but I have always felt she is a really great TV personality. She’s hilarious, not in a joke-telling way or as an actress, but just as herself—she is goofy and a bit unhinged in an innocuous way, but she also comes across as intelligent and courageous about saying *anything* that comes to mind. Her talk show did better than most while it was on, and she is a charismatic host even if her show was just a generic talk show. She puts me off in the same one way Oprah does: she relates every person’s situation to herself, and turns every conversation into a focus on how it applies to her. So with that in mind, she would be a good (and much more likable, and with a sense of humor) foil for Meghan McCain. I don’t know anything about her politics, though.

I agree with r579 - her presence on TV is very watchable. She was one of the few talk show hosts who survived past 1 or 2 seasons. I have no idea what she's like in real life, but she appealed to enough people to stay on air. About 100 other people can't say the same thing. Plus, 22 seasons of ANTM is insane. Very few shows can last that many seasons. Then again, I guess reality shows can go on forever due to the low cost and never-ending supply of people who want tv fame, but it just gets so repetitive to me.

Jed was an interesting host. She was legitimately conservative and even authored content on Breitbart, which is, well, deplorable. And yet she was likable. She had a fucking sense of humor, even about herself and even about her politics. She stuck to her opinions and was bold enough both to criticize her own party sometimes and also to say what she really believed, which is what got her whacked: she went off script and challenged Hillary Clinton and was severed immediately. I rarely agreed with Jedediah Bila, I sometimes didn’t like her, but I think I always respected her. And I have not really respected most of the cohosts over the years—Jenny McCarthy, Raven-Symone, et al.

I looooooooooooved Nicolle Wallace on The View, and I think firing her was a huge mistake. But she has proved over time to be sensible enough to reject the Republican party, and so I now sort of feel (as I do about Ana Navarro) that they lean conservative but are not party cheerleaders, and The View very obviously wants a hardcore Republican party representative to counter Joy’s Democrat partisanship.

I ended up pitying Candace Cameron. She just came across as a lame, lost sheep. Just completely unthinking and confused among the company of women with opinions that weren’t assigned to them by a church. Seeing her on that show made me sad.

And perhaps worth mentioning, neither did Rosie O’Donnell; the whole reason Rosie lost her shit was because she said she thought Elisabeth was a good person and her friend and she didn’t like that Elisabeth criticized her. E screamed that she criticized Rosie’s opinions and that it’s up to Rosie to defend and justify her own opinions. Sorry, but while I agree more with Rosie’s opinions, I agree more with Elisabeth’s argument/principle here. People should be able to disagree with friends and not expect inauthentic support.

That said, if Elisabeth were on today, I am pretty sure I woule revile her. Stakes are too high today, and while I could agree to disagree with conservatives’ politics 15 years ago as a 25 year old, anyone who supports the Republican party today may as well be supporting early career Hitler.

Jed and Meghan’s nutty talking points only get them so far.

Ratings are up slightly with Meghan, but in an era with ratings freefalling across the board, that counts as a big win.

Rosie didn't like E having "The View Master" Republican producer in her earpiece giving her talking points, Rosie was having a conversation with two people at the same time.

Yeah but ratings are also up because The View has gotten into more news stories recently. Not to mention heightened political interest, especially given some of their guests (Stormy Daniels, etc.). I know Mooghan would love to take the credit for higher ratings but I refuse to chalk it up to just her 'star power'.

I think at the end of last year ABC announced that ratings for the year were up a whopping half a percentage point and credited McCain. The AP—just by coincidence—released a simultaneous story profiling McCain is terribly biased and flattering light. It even quotes Joy Behar in such a way that it sounds like she is a fan of Meghan, which is clearly false just from watching the show. It’s so egregiously written that I contacted both ABC and the AP to ask if the story was commissioned. An AP executive said that it wasn’t.

It has happened a few times, most recently with an otherwise likable old lady from Illinois.
