35 years ago, the "trans" nonsense didn't exist. Would that it were the same today.

What a load of shit.

Is this in any way confirmed by the writer, or writers, and director of the movie?

r3 he says on a dvd of Aliens it shows the projections that Sigourney watches of her dead crew when she is being interrogated as to why she blew up the ship. In the description of Lambert it says that she was born male and altered to female (they use some scify lingo.)
So I guess it would be the writer of the sequel Aliens who came up with this idea.

I wonder why they put that little factoid in but never expanded on it.

Probably some joke on the writer’s part because Cartwright looked butch.

Poor Veronica, she's in a sci-fi classic, but was the first one to die. Didn't even make it down to the planet.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 26, 2018 9:57 PM |
R10, what movie are you watching? She's actually the last one to die.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 26, 2018 9:59 PM |
Ok, I'm thinking of some actress who died during the descent to the planet in Aliens. I remember her as a supporting actress on SCTV, but it'd take me too long to come up with the name.

Cartwright has the honor of starring in three truly classic horror/sci-fi films...The Birds, in which she lives; Invasion of the Body Snatchers, in which she is the only character to survive (although with dim and crazed prospects at the end--see clip), and Alien, in which she is the last person to die.
In terms of quality, I am hard-pressed to think of any actor or actress in history who starred in three unrelated horror films of such high quality and significance.

Friend R12, you are in the wrong franchise. There is no "death during a descent to planet" scene (male or female) in Alien or Aliens. Since it seems you may not have seen either film, I can only recommend that you try to catch them both, as they are truly incredible. The first one operates more like a horror film, the second one more like an action film, but both are A+++. Four stars. Among the best horror/sci-fi films ever made.

She was raped by the tail, right?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 26, 2018 10:23 PM |
Are you thinking of the drop ship pilot from Aliens? She made it down to the planet, but I don't think she actually left the drop ship. She and her navigator were both killed by an alien as they flew to pick up the Marines.

The character kind of looks like Robin Duke from SCTV--although I think most people remember her from Saturday Night Live. Is that who you're thinking of, (12)?

It depends on how you interpret the scene. It's not made explicit that a rape occurs. The tail wraps around her leg, but that may be just to steady/control her in preparation for the kill. If she was indeed raped it was awfully fast because she's killed within ten seconds of the hold. [Ridley Scott is adamant that there is no rape implied.] I've attached the scene.
I've always thought it was one of the most terrifying and frustrating (in a good way) scenes in the entire franchise. You so want her to get away, but her abject terror gets the best of her. Yaphet Kotto's character sacrifices himself so she can escape, but as he fights the alien she remains frozen with fear, and as soon as the alien is finished with him, it turns to Lambert and you know she is a goner as she stands there immobile and terrified. Hearing her death over the communication channel, but not seeing it, is incredibly effective and sad, and is also significant for serving as the moment which renders Ripley as the last human standing (the intergalatic version of the "Final Girl"). What a brilliant movie this is.
