His voice may be whiny and annoying, but his songwriting is what helps him stand out. He has a unique perspective and the hooks are catchy. It would have been better if he could have written for other artists, but he'll do just fine on his own.

Alec's team stupidly removed the single version of "Let Me Down Slowly" from iTunes so now the song isn't in the top 200 anymore. They need to remind everyone that the song is still there as an album track so it gets back up the chart. This little mishap shouldn't ruin Alec's ability to compete with Shawn and take over in terms of popularity.

Despite this, Alec's album is #25 on the pop chart. If it wasn't for the holiday season and all of the Christmas albums selling like hotcakes, that would mean his album would be in the top 100 on the main chart. After the holidays, his album could start to gain real traction; especially if they push the single more aggressively.

There are some Alec updates that might intrigue you all. Here's a recent interview with Billboard (they seem to be taking a liking to him which is a very good sign) where he talks about how he met John Mayer and how he's poaching another one of Shawn's collaborators, Khalid.

Also here's a video of his recent travels in Europe. The crowd sizes are getting bigger which is a good sign.
