Worst Christmas film you've ever seen

My vote goes to "One Magic Christmas". According to this film the best way to make someone believe in Christmas again is to fool her into thinking her entire family was killed. No wonder Disney was in trouble in the 1980s, with them releasing crappy films like this one.

And Harry Dean Stanton made one creepy-ass Christmas angel.

Most people would say "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians". Cast including young child Pia Zadora.

Well, that's... innovative.

The worst one I can think of is The Santa Clause 3 (the one where Martin Short plays Jack Frost).

When I was a kid, Cartoon Network showed a creepy Hanna-Barbera Christmas special called The Little Troll Prince, in which a troll accepts Christ as his saviour.

I was forced to watch Santa Paws with my young niece. Like chewing tinfoil.

Hallmark's "I'm Not Read for Christmas," with the always terrible, always drunk, George Stults.

I assumed Bad Mom's Christmas would be the worst Xmas movie ever until I watched it. I almost peed myself during the ball waxing scene. Ho ho ho

by Anonymousreply 6December 14, 2018 7:25 PM

I nominate the group of Christmas movies on the ION tv network - just fucking awful. The leader being Christmas with the Andersons..

by Anonymousreply 7December 14, 2018 7:26 PM

Christmas with the Kranks was not good at all.

by Anonymousreply 8December 14, 2018 7:27 PM

Deck the Halls. I actually saw this one in the cinema and it's one of the very few films I ever walked out on (and trust me, it takes a REALLY bad film to make a cheapskate like me walk out on a movie before the ending credits roll).

by Anonymousreply 9December 14, 2018 7:29 PM

Does the He Man and She Ra Christmas Special count?

Skeletor learns the true meaning of Christmas. Lots of man panties, too.

by Anonymousreply 10December 14, 2018 7:32 PM

Seconding the OP. I saw that movie as a kid. SPOILERS: It’s not just that her husband is accidentally shot dead by a desperate homeless man, the man then takes off in Mary’s station wagon with her two little kids in tow and proceeds to swerve off the road into an icy pond where the car sinks and the kids drown. WTF?

by Anonymousreply 11December 14, 2018 7:40 PM

I was going to say "Christmas with the Kranks" as well. Wretched.

Jingle All Way

by Anonymousreply 13December 14, 2018 8:51 PM

I didn't mind Christmas with the Kranks too much, but that's probably because Baroness Haden-Guest is one of those actresses I could watch in literally anything.

by Anonymousreply 14December 14, 2018 9:39 PM

"Babes In Toyland" (1986) with Drew Barrymore, Keanu Reeves (!), and Pat Morita (!!). I think it was filmed in a kiddie theme park in Germany. All the forced joviality seems especially prefab now given what Drew's life was really like at the time.

Noel

An all star cast presents the single most miserable holiday movie ever made. Do not watch if you are already depressed. A real downer.

The ABSOLUTE WORST Christmas movie ever: Santa Claus vs. the Devil. Made in Mexico, but bad taste is universal!

I just saw it, and the pacing was terrible. It was a disastah!

Yogi's First Christmas. I used to watch it a lot as a kid but I recently watched it and boy was it a chore to make through.

by Anonymousreply 21December 14, 2018 10:07 PM

It wasn't terrible, but This Christmas hit every cliche in the tree on its way down.

AND it features two punch happy assholes, Columbus Short and Chris Brown (right before he got popular).

AND the entire damn movie is in this trailer, so save yourself two hours and watch this.

Medea Does Christmas? Not sure if that movie exists but it would be the worst.

by Anonymousreply 23December 14, 2018 10:17 PM

R15 Never heard of that one (is that Pat Morita dressed as Santa?!) but the 60s Disney version with Annette Funicello was atrocious as well.

by Anonymousreply 24December 14, 2018 10:26 PM

Those puppet one with Rudolph, Ethel Merman, a circus and a wizard with a sled with flying snakes. The stuff childhood nightmare are made of.

Have to disagree with OP and R11. Loved this movie as child when I saw it in the theater, and love it still.

by Anonymousreply 28December 15, 2018 1:38 AM

I saw The Family Stone a few months after my mother died so I pretty much broke down and sobbed in the theatre at the end where the family gathers to celebrate their first Christmas without their mother. The rest of the film is fine and, sorry Kim, I think it's the most 'unlike Carrie' performance SJP has given since SATC ended.

by Anonymousreply 29December 15, 2018 2:37 AM

All those Hallmark Christmas movies are terrible. Bad acting, cheap sets and chemistry-free pairings.

by Anonymousreply 30December 15, 2018 3:02 AM

Holy shit, R4! I had to watch a movie with my niece a few years ago that featured a bunch of puppies that have to save Christmas. Is that Santa Paws?

In the movie, there are all these golden lab puppies and each one has a different personality. There’s one who just wants to eat and he farts and burps all the time. There’s a girl puppy who says “Ew” and “As if” and she really needs a spa day. There’s a devil may care jock one who rides a skateboard at some point and probably wears a ball cap. Some other one I can’t remember, probably a nerd because, why not? But the worst one of all was the cool, hip hop puppy who wears a heavy gold chain for a collar. I swear his name is G-Dawg and he says “Yo” and “Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about,” etc. My niece, being six and having listed at least ten different dog breeds on her letter to Santa, was delighted. I, being a self respecting gay man in his early thirties, went down to the basement and took couple of hits of weed halfway through. My sister would never forgive me if she knew, but she’d probably feel even worse if I’d pinned a synopsis of the movie to my chest and hung myself. If that movie was called Santa Paws, R4, I consider us both survivors.

The Christmas Tree. An animated film that was released in 1991 but looks like it was made in the 60's. The animation and voice acting is extremely poor and the orphans all look like Elmer Fudd. It's about an evil abusive woman who owns an orphanage (sound familiar?) and spends all of the money the mayor gives her for the kids on gambling. The children are fixated on a pine tree that they've named Mrs. Hopewell that they hope will give them parents for Christmas. It's THAT bad.

Also 99.99% of all Lifetime and Hallmark Christmas films.

I actually like Christmas with The Kranks.

A really good horror Christmas movie is Sint. Watch the subtitled version because the dubbed version is subpar.

by Anonymousreply 35December 15, 2018 5:07 AM

Has anyone ever seen Jack Frost (1998)? I've never actually seen it but I've heard it described as a truly awful Christmas film. A young boy building a snowman only for it to be inhabited by the ghost of his dead father sounds like nightmare fuel to me.
