NY Times Wesley Morris has a hard-on for Lucas Hedges

From his Sunday Arts Column - The Best Performances of 2018:

"The most original young actor in America is also the busiest. In the last year or so, he was the best thing in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” one of the highlights of “Lady Bird” and “Mid90s,” the centerpiece of two issue movies — about the opioid crisis (“Ben Is Back”) and about gay-conversion therapy (“Boy Erased”) — and Kenneth Lonergan’s dementia tragedy, “The Waverly Gallery,” now on Broadway. Hedges works in a unclassifiable style. He can be deceptively gentle or misguidedly thuggish and delivers dialogue with an upside-down transparency, but with no bogus intensity or bravado. Scarily enough, there’s an eternity for him to get somehow stronger. The most original young actor in America is just 21."

"he was the best thing in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"

Bitch, please.

Most original young actor in America?

Double bitch, please.

I find him cute but dull. Not as dull as Michael Cera though.

I'm going to reserve opinion on this one because I thought his performance in MANCHESTER BY THE SEA was the weak link in the ensemble. He wasn't particularly good suggesting vulnerability or depth of emotion, both of which were central to the character.

He's a decent actor but way too understated in Boy Erased. It didn't help that the story was very dull, and the relationships poor. I actually thought his performance in mid 90s was much better even though he hadn't nearly as much screen time. Still looking forward to Ben is Back, but so far, both he and Chalamet have yet to prove themselves as anything other than slightly above average.

Nick Robinson is one of those actors who can pass as the boy next door (although he's much more handsome) and looks to be equally adept with comedy. Many people forget he started out his career on a Disney sitcom even though he showed some subtle comedic chops in Love Simon. He also played a drug addict before Timmy or Lucas and he was very good, and dare I say, sexy in the part. He's the one to watch out for in my opinion.

Nick Robinson is very limited. He’s borderline mono toned at times. He can’t show true emotion.

Timmy and Lucas are far superior to Robinson who gets by on cuteness and was fortunate to be in Jurassic World

Chalamet is a more interesting screen presence in general, but I thought Lucas' performance in LADYBIRD was the better of the two of them.

I thought he was excellent in MANCHESTER. BOY ERASED needed a harder edge to be effective - it's too much like an Afternoon Special with a few harsh scenes (and Kidman's character looked like a cornpone Ann-Margret).

Lucas' role in THREE BILLBOARDS was pretty small and he left little impression. Actually his role in MID 90'S is much more interesting. I'm sure he's fine in BEN IS BACK.

R4 I thought he was terrific in Manchester and excellent at projecting vulnerability covered by a veneer of teenage bravado. The scene near the end where he begs Lee not to go was heartbreaking. I really like both Lucas and Timmy.

I love Three Billboards, but I genuinely didn’t remember he was even in it. Did he even have five minutes of screen time?

by Anonymousreply 9December 10, 2018 10:42 PM

He played the son of Frances McDormand's character. It was a small part.

by Anonymousreply 10December 10, 2018 11:44 PM

He a solid actor. Ben is Back is a better film then Chalamet’s Beautiful Boy. Hedges and Chalamet will show us what they got in their next few performances.

by Anonymousreply 11December 25, 2018 6:46 AM

How the fuck was he the best thing in 3 Billboards? I barely remember him in it. Lol

Agree Frank has nothing going on but why take a third wheel on a get away with your GF. Especially since one of your best friends who you always seem to have a great time with and your family arealso likely in town if you don't want to spend every on moment with your love...agree I says bring on all the silly pics.

by Anonymousreply 13December 26, 2018 8:15 PM

I thought he was very cute until I saw him in person at my non-flashy LA gym. Now...eh. I still would if the opportunity came up, but I'm not lusting after him.

by Anonymousreply 14December 26, 2018 8:18 PM

Wesley should be fired for that line alone R1

by Anonymousreply 15December 26, 2018 8:18 PM

Never heard of either one of them.
