White people, do you like your chicken unseasoned?

Or is that just a social media meme?

Chicken, like culture, should be as bland and flavorless as possible

by Anonymousreply 1December 9, 2018 4:42 PM

They like raw chicken.

by Anonymousreply 2December 9, 2018 4:43 PM

The correct term is 'fresh' Raw can conjure up some problematic images for the uninitiated.

by Anonymousreply 3December 9, 2018 4:48 PM

No No NO! My go-to chicken seasoning is equal parts salt, pepper, garlic, and paprika.

by Anonymousreply 4December 9, 2018 4:55 PM

Sure. I like to be first.

by Anonymousreply 5December 9, 2018 4:57 PM

Troll

by Anonymousreply 6December 9, 2018 4:59 PM

I've never heard of anyone eating unseasoned chicken, unless they're on a weird self-torture purity diet.

I thought black people just think we don't season it *enough* or something.

Once when I was ill my crazy ass old lady neighbor brought me some chicken soup.

Well, she said it was chicken soup. She didn't eat meat so there was no chicken in it. She was sensitive to strong flavors so it wasn't salted.

She always smelled like pee so I thanked her, closed my door and poured it down the sink.

by Anonymousreply 8December 9, 2018 5:14 PM

Bitch please.....we eat what we want. Unseasoned or not...ain't none of you bidness.

by Anonymousreply 9December 9, 2018 5:17 PM

I’m from Buffalo, so no, we like our chicken hot. Wings, breasts, legs, whateve - always with hot sauce.

The meme should be about Lutherans or something.

Whites literally raped and genocided for spices this meme must have been started by them to hide this fact.

by Anonymousreply 12December 9, 2018 5:24 PM

That's why the master race is eating so bland--- atonement for past crimes

by Anonymousreply 13December 9, 2018 5:27 PM

David Rosengarten used to have a show on the Food Network, which I really loved. He was an excellent teacher. I can remember him 'doing' roast chicken, and one point he made is that it's very difficult to over-salt a roast chicken. My Mom had her thyroid removed, and was told to avoid salt, so so much of her food was very bland. I don't shy away from salt: I was actually advised to drink less water, since my sodium levels were so low. I asked my PCP if I could just eat more salt, and was told it didn't work that way (????) So I use plenty of salt. Also, I'm one of those people who use hot sauce on almost everything (please don't judge). A long time ago, I worked in an Asian restaurant with a number of Southeast Asian people, and one of my favorite waitresses would always prepare a plate for me when we all had lunch, and she'd splash hot saucer over everything. She would just say, "How can you even taste it without hot sauce?" So I developed a taste for it over 35 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 14December 9, 2018 5:45 PM

Salt, pepper, and lots of smoked paprika... delicious! When I buy a roasted chicken, I try to get the lemon/garlic one.

by Anonymousreply 15December 9, 2018 5:50 PM

I loved that show too r14. As far as white people not liking spice, WASP food was traditionally bland but Spanish food, Italian food? They are white too and they love spice.

by Anonymousreply 16December 9, 2018 5:50 PM

Is it true that black people only eat well done meat in restaurants ? Just asking .

by Anonymousreply 17December 9, 2018 5:58 PM

No, and I don’t know the meme. For the record I detest chicken breasts. Why not just eat protein power out of the box?

by Anonymousreply 18December 9, 2018 6:00 PM

I like the drumstick and thigh of chicken best. The breasts can be pretty dry, but when done right, are pretty delicious, too. The breasts are good for soups and salads.

by Anonymousreply 19December 9, 2018 6:04 PM

I don't like chicken.

by Anonymousreply 20December 9, 2018 6:07 PM

OP, did you start this thread because of what's trending on Twitter?

R12, Europeans actually outsmarted themselves on that front:

Back in the Middle Ages, spices were really expensive, which meant that only the upper class could afford them. But things started to change as Europeans began colonizing parts of India and the Americas.

"Spices begin to pour into Europe," explains Krishnendu Ray, an associate professor of food studies at New York University. "What used to be expensive and exclusive became common."

Serving richly spiced stews was no longer a status symbol for Europe's wealthiest families — even the middle classes could afford to spice up their grub. "So the elite recoiled from the increasing popularity of spices," Ray says. "They moved on to an aesthetic theory of taste. Rather than infusing food with spice, they said things should taste like themselves. Meat should taste like meat, and anything you add only serves to intensify the existing flavors."

R21 of course! But I’ve been seeing the unseasoned chicken jokes for years.

Oprah looks so good in that video.

by Anonymousreply 23December 9, 2018 6:19 PM

Is this a black thing?

by Anonymousreply 24December 9, 2018 7:02 PM

1D’s Niall Horan is a fan of unseasoned chicken.

I’m hypertensive (not fat, for all you supposers) and a dr wanted me to cut out any prepackaged foods because when I was in the hospital NPO for 6 days, my BP was normal. Well, duh. I was lying in a bed the whole time, not walking, not cleaning my house, not food shopping in overcrowded stores with too few cashiers, not sitting in traffic jams, not being awakened by leaf blowers and all-day-long construction work in my neighborhood; not feeding the cats or cleaning the litter boxes, not cleaning the pool, mowing the lawn, weeding, pruning, cleaning winter-induced mildew from the outside of my house & shed.....

No added salt to my diet, no prepackaged food and only low sodium food lasted for one week. I went back to my old dr and got my blood pressure medications re-prescribed.

(He also wanted me taking fistfuls of fish oil capsules a few rms a day. I got back on my cholesterol lowering medication instead)

A couple of years ago, someone here on Datalounge linked this NYT recipe for chicken provencal. I've made it several times and have loved it every time. No one should have to eat chicken unseasoned or with little seasoning. When you make it, your kitchen will smell divine. The roasting chicken with herbs de provence an garlic is just amazing. I make it with roasted potatoes and
