Acting is a profession where the majority of the people in the profession are unemployed and looking for work, so being a working actor - whether its daytime, primetime, movies or off-off-off Broadway- is something to celebrate.

I'm almost positive that when ManZi stopped bleaching her hair during her last run on the show, she said something about how she didn't want to do it any longer. First, because brunette is her natural color, and that color makes her feel herself, but second, she mentioned all the added treatments she went through to prevent damage from the bleaching. .. So since TPTB wanted her to come back, I imagine they'd agree to just about whatever "hair terms" she had.

Maybe CS decided that he didn't want to end up like Drake or Freddie or Chandler and also wanted to leave while still young and to prove to himself that he can get roles outside of soaps. He was supposed to have more stores happening that was until Dena and Josh were brought on the show. Dena and Josh for the most part put CS on the backburner because one actually wanted him gone and the other didn't really care about his character and both kind of hoped he would choose to leave the show. It wasn't until that dumb who's John's daddy for the 100th time story and then Dena basically being forced into doing PaulSon that his screen time started to increase then Ron came.

Christopher was simply too good of an actor for this crap. After the first few months, his character was watered down then basically became an emotional punching bag for Wilson. He deserved so much better but this show constantly shOOts itself in the fOOt.

I think Paul's mother was also supposed to come back for a couple more appearances until Dena and Josh were hired this putting an end to that happening.

No R75. It's basically a money thing, a way for soap actors to get salary bumps. without raising the actual rate. He is guaranteed a salary of 19.5 episodes in a 13 week cycle and it evens out at the end of the second 13 week cycle. A vet like GR, may even be able to negotiate 26 week cycles at this point.

Most actors are 2 or 3 days. I know a couple of actors with 4 day a week guarantees over at GH.

Remember when ATWT wanted to cute Martha Byrne's guarantee, but she didn't want to cut her guarantee, but instead cute her rate. The show would do it and they brought Noel Beck?

Days of our Lives wanted Rebecca Herbst to play Abigail. Herbst then used that offer in her renegotiations with General Hospital. Yes, Herbst is older than the character but she reads a younger on camera. That is how we ended up with Marci Miller.

Billy Flynn changes the script and it throws off his scene partners and holds up production. He is also basically an asshole. This is why he was fired.

Marci Miller had originally planned to extend her contract to finish out the Chabby story. Ken saw Kate Mansi at some event and the two started talking. The next day Marci was gone and Kate came back. Ken was never a fan of MM.

Ken was also the reason why Tyler is gone. He thought Tyler was too low energy and wasn't sparking with the fans. Tyler is hardly the first actor with a substance problem who brought it into work. Ken felt they were paying Tyler too much money and felt a new directions was needed. Enter Brandon Barash who the fans are going to lose their shit over. He's already turned the character around.

Sony and NBC are currently putting the finishing touches on a new season renewal. Expect the announcement in the spring. The hold up this time isn't the licensing fee. NBC only wants the show to be available on the NBC site. Sony would like to expand that to other digital platforms. I knew about Days courting Becky Herbst from Jamey. I'm glad she didn't take the job because I'd hate for her to have had to deal with BF's antics. Becky is such a sweetheart.

Billy was difficult & a basic tool behind the scenes but I knew he wouldn't be long once he started messing with scripts. He got away with that under Dena. He even bragged about it but Ron doesn't play that game. He rightfully views it as a slap in the face of his scriptwriters.

I have to agree that others have had substance abuse issues but I don't recall anyone else being so blotto they had to be escorted out of the building on a stretcher. Tyler's situation was untenable and costing the studio money due to him being unprepared and/or late. Soaps now have to function like machines. You can't have any sticky wheels.

I can't wait to see what messiness Leo brings. Rikaart is beyond delicious in this role.

The low energy worked when he started playing Nikolas on GH two decades ago. It came across as brooding and worked for the character as a teen. But as Nikolas got older and gained more power, the brooding/low energy became less and less effective. It made Nikolas look weak.

And since Tyler's been playing Stefan, the low energy makes him come across as a weak and ineffective character.

I look forward to seeing what Bradon Barash does with the character. Hopefully, he'll inject Stefan with a dose of energy.

Chandler Massey is basically in the same position as Jensen Ackles was 20 years ago. He should already be on one of those CW shows or have made some low budget horror film.

Chambo aims too high. He will always be Will. Even after cancellation. He’ll get out of acting because no one will hire him after for any acting roles. He’s just not that good.

One of the things people forget about the Hortons is that Tom and Alice were the only truly "good" ones. And even they made questionable choices to protect their family from time to time. All of their children were messes and to a degree all their grandchildren and great grandchildren are/were messes. People on here slag on Will for being a flake and wishy washy and other things, but that kid got a double dose of mess from the Hortons and from his mama. There was no way he could turn out normal.

Julie was the product of one of Tom and Alice's messes. Adelaide Horton was a social climber and she and her husband Ben cared more about appearances than their children. Julie acted out to try to get their attention. Which is how we are introduced to Julie in the first episode.

Julie goes to live with Tom and Alice and settles down until she meets "bad boy" David Martin. The family doesn't approve of David's fast cars and fast lifestyle, but Julie wants him anyway. David and Julie make plans to elope, the plans fall apart and David ends up marrying Susan Hunter, Julie's best friend.

Julie remains a loyal friend until Susan decides she wants to keep her baby and in essence goes back on her agreement with David, that after their child was born they would give him up for adoption and get divorced. This is when Julie turned bitter and angry and plotted against Susan.

Julie was devious and a spoiler, but never truly a villain. She wasn't sending a woman who just had miscarriage baby clothes or cheating with a shoe salesman because she was bored. Basically, Julie and Susan were on a revenge loop. Julie did take Scott Banning from Susan maliciously, but even that doesn't rise to the level of some of the shit daytime's classic female villains have done.

For modern audiences, Julie was basically Sami Brady. Falling in love and out of love. Marrying the wrong men. Sleeping with the wrong men. And disappointed in her mother who was always letting her down. When Julie acted out, it was usually in reaction to Susan or Addie or Phyllis or some man in her life.

To wrap this up, the biggest mistake that was made with the character of the Julie, is a mistake that Bill Bell constantly repeated on all of his shows. Bill Bell was an overSORASer. He always SORASed children before they should have been SORASed. Julie was 16/17 when the show premiered in 1965. By 1975 she had an adult son. "Julie" could have probably carried story for another 10/20 years. Julie should have had at least two more children. And she probably should have married Stefano in the 80s. Stefano wanted Julie when he first appeared on the scene.

I think Bell wanted to retell the Bill vs. Mickey story with David and Mike, which is why he SORASed David, but it was so damaging to Julie. Then Hope came along in the 80s and Julie's main purpose was helping Doug keep Bo's cock out of Hope. Then they just left.

Julie is a great character in her own right, but she's also one of those characters that always associated with a couple and not as a standalone character. It's always Doug & Julie.

What happened to Julie’s mother? She always remembers her grandparents but never her mother.

What’s the story with Aunt Marie that Julie was always shrieking about in the last 10 years?

It seemed like Tom was a jerk who demanded that Julie couldn’t return from San Francisco.

Addie died after being hit by a car to save Hope. She remembered her mother in a scene with Sami about complicated Mother/Daughter relationships a few years ago.

Marie is another hot mess Horton. After falling in love with her own brother, she left town and got into a crazy sexual/abusive relationship with Alex Marshall and then entered the convent.

Remember this was 1967. Julie was a young woman, unmarried and had given up her son for adoption. Tom was probably concerned about the stigma and how painful it would be for Julie to be in Salem where her son was. But to be honest, in the early Days, Tom was always meddling and in the thick of all the stories. He convinced Susan not have an abortion and marry David. He convinced Julie to give up her son for adoption. He kept Mickey's sterility a secret. he kept Bill and Laura's thing a secret. He basically ran Tony out of town when he came back and wanted to get back with Marie.

Was Addie the Horton or was it Julie’s father? Who was he?

If you're on Days currently your non Days lanes are Lifetime and Hallmark movies or a small indie film that very few people will see.

I could see GV as the fifth or sixth name on a primetime series callsheet. Like part of the B detective team on a procedural. Other than that, this cast should hold on to their jobs as long as they possibly can.

A working actor has already won the lottery. The issue with soaps has always been knowing when to leave. But that gets tough when you're getting a decent salary and the idea of going back to waiting tables is not appealing. I think people like Greg Vaughn made the decision to stay in soaps because it's steady income to support his family.

Given the speed at which soaps are produced and the lack of rehearsal time, it's just amazing that these actors are able to put on a decent performance each day. Primetime and film actors aren't necessarily better than daytime actors, they just have the luxury of time and the ability to rehearse and rehearse and rehearse.

From everything we've been told Ryan Quan is the Days history guy. He's like the fans, in that he can pull out all of this stuff from past stories and characters. Sometimes I will remember something that happened on Days 20 years ago line by line, but can't remember my assistant's name. It's the oddest thing with these shows.

Ron, I believe, was into ABC soaps growing up so he didn't have the history with Days, but with Sheri and Ryan helping him he tends to get it and then makes sure that he honors it. Just the small things like mentioning the Possession or Marlena being in a bird cage is important to the fans who watched it.

I've never been a fan of Billy Flynn. I thought he was wrong for the part from the beginning. If you watch him on camera, it is always like he's about to laugh. And then he does this move where he gets into his scenes partner's face while shaking his neck. And the kissing Will thing is an odd choice.

And I'm not going to lie, I cut Chandler a lot of slack because he's cute, I like his politics, and he just seems like a decent person. I don't know why his performances have been turned down. I do wonder if it's because he's gone from the lead in the story to the supporting character in the story and he feels that he needs to step back and let others shine. I don't know, but like I said I cut him slack where I don't cut others slack, so that is my bias and I'm owning it.

And I know she is not a favorite here, but Jennifer is looking much better lately. I am actually excited that Jack is coming back. I hope he's married to Eve or something.

I think JJ needs a rest and a recast. I would send him away to go to medical school or something. You pulled that out of your ass. That is so not true. In 93, the characters of Jack, Carly (Katerina), and Laurence were all fired to free up money for the characters of Stefano, Tony, and Kristen. All three were popular, but Ashford was the most popular of all, but he was fired because he'd pissed off Ken Corday. For years Jim Reilly was blamed for hating Matt Ashford, but it has always been Ken Corday.

Missy remained with the show through 95, when her affair with Jason Brooks came out and she left to save her marriage. Ashford was long gone by that time.

But you are right that Ashford shouldn't get too comfortable. Ken still can't stand him, but Ken also acknowledges that the guy is popular and he wants to keep the show on the air.

In the past, Sonny had to chase Will. Strudel Will did go after Paul under the pretext of getting a story, but quickly went back to crying after Sonny. The amnesia reversal has turned Will back to that Will still running after Sonny for inexplicable reasons other than that "soulmate" crap.

I have to say, I think DAYS is the best it's been in years now, despite the criticism above. The show moves fast, it's got a sense of outrageousness that's true to its roots, it has good nods to history and it FINALLY has a sense of humor after years of being so fucking serious for years. Sure, it's got a really, really gay sensibility and some stories repeat themselves but ALL soap stories repeat themselves (look at Brooke/Ridge on the Bold and the Beautiful).

At Frau Central, the CowFraus are thrilled that Jack is alive but are disgusted by the rumor that André will also be back alive soon.

Do they not know that DAYS has ben the wacky soap for almost 30 years???

I saw Matt Ashford on Season 3 of The Bay this week. He's the only experienced cast member I didn't recognize.

I thought Matt Ashford looked good - he's 60 years old! But the lame explanation? Wouldn't the police want to know where he'd been? They would have needed Eve to explain a lot.

I couldn't agree with you more R583. Days is the only soap currently on the air that feels like itself. That doesn't mean that it's without problems, but it's a good enjoyable hour of TV. And since Jack was brought back the same way Will was brought back it makes sense that he might have memory issues too.

I only have two problems with the show. 1) The characters seem to be on islands some times and I know that is the result of tight budgets and block taping to keep costs down. But sometimes it's more noticeable than others. 2) Is a casting issue that doesn't seem like it will resolve itself, so I'm just going to grin a bear it.
