The 1975's Matty Healy Says He's Attracted to Men—But Not Sexually
The 1975 frontman Matty Healy has always toyed with his own masculinity in his clothes and performances on stage, and rumors swirled about his sexuality a few years ago when he told an interviewer he was "still asking myself questions" about his own Kinsey scale.
In his latest interview with Shortlist, the 29-year-old opened up publicly about his sexuality for the first time.
"Well, you can look at whether sexuality is a social construct, which of course, it isn’t," Healy began. "When I was a kid most of the people [around me] who were successful and doing what they wanted to do were gay. I associated that freedom of self with freedom of expression. I think I looked up to them, not as pariahs or outsiders, but as people who were truly themselves. I’ve always found that engaging. I’ve thought: 'Maybe it’s unusual to be as flamboyant as I am, or unusual to be as in the gay world as I am...What does that mean? Am I a bit gay?' And then I was, like, 'No, that’s not how it works! It comes down to who you want to f*ck.'"
But is he attracted to men?
"Yes, but not in a carnal, sexual way," he explained. "The other sex is still attractive, it’s just that sex is weird, isn’t it? Do you know what I mean? It’s, like, Do I want to do blowjobs with a guy? No. Do I want to kiss a guy? Yeah, kind of..."
He goes on to say that he's kissed a guy, but doesn't want to dive into it publically as to not upset his girlfriend.

Also, are The 1975 trying to pretend they're somewhat serious musicians anymore, or are they now completely pandering to their (somewhat inexplicable) tween audience?

I don't understand the point of these public pronouncements that ultimately add up to nothing. I mean many people can find the sex that they're not attracted to attractive on an objective level. Doesn't necessarily mean anything. Every week, there's a musician or actor type announcing "I'm gay, sort of... but not really ". Very silly.

The Shawn Mendes mess suggests that people planning to stay closeted should just blacklist the topic in interviews.
Healy was bearded with ALL the usual suspects from very early on, including not yet out Cara D, not yet out and not yet a hooker Lindsay and that nice tomboy, Alexa Chung. They even played at PR romance with Swift, which is like a Good Housekeeping Seal of gayness. Lots of overlap in the PR bearding with uber hetero Harry Styles.

Lately coming outs are incridibly absurd. Nobody comes as lesbian, gay or bisexual anymore. It's like you are so special that it's needed a new letter in the lgbt only for you.
And this absurdity of i'm attracted to men but i don't date or have sex with men is simply ridiculous. Sorry, but you are not gay, you are not going to suffer any of the hurdles gay men have to overcome.
And prepare for that kind of crap coming from actors now that there's certain backlash at playing gay roles being straight (something i don't agree at all, acting is basically pretend to be someone you are not), you will see more and more sayiing they are not totally straight, which generally means i want to keep playing gay roles without being criticied but you only will see me with women in public
