Daredevil is NO MORE
I'm kind of glad. I'm all for dark tortured superheroes but I couldn't even finish the third season. I think Fisk sucked the life out of it. They should have had a new supervillain who was entertaining and not just dark and depressing.
Hopefully this frees up the lead actor so he can be shirtless more in a new series. Perhaps one where he's a sex addict.

The third season was actually much better than the second season. But yes, maybe now Charlie Cox can grow his chest hair back out.

Third season was great. It was way better than the second. And like mentioned in other threads the show will probably move to Disney's own streaming service.

See, I couldn't get to the fifth episode. I lost interest after Fisk's white room vision of the hot guy's fucked up childhood. I think the mood for dark and depressing superhero flicks has changed. Superman was the shark jumping moment.

Well, Agents of Shield is a large team of people, Daredevil is just one guy and a handful of normals.

Will it really move to Disney? The show runner is tweeting like it is the end. Saying farewell to everyone as is some of the cast.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 1, 2018 6:11 AM

I doubt it. The cast will be released. Maybe they'll do an animated version. Or make it an ensemble. I doubt they will use the same actors - Disney probably wants to do their own thing and may have movie tie-ins, where Netflix wouldn't.
Netflix will likely cancel Jessica Jones and The Punisher once their respective seasons air, and they'll be out of the Marvel business for good. I wonder if it's a bit of shooting the franchise to make it harder for Disney to take advantage of their work with the property.

AoS is on ABC which is owned by Disney. Otherwise it would've been cancelled ages ago.

One of the writers for the show said that Marvel Television was shocked by the cancellation as there were talks ongoing about doing a 4th season.

I did finally manage to finish the third season, but it was a slog. I still loved CC as Daredevil, but really didn't care about any of the other characters, and when Karen or Fisk were on screen I was constantly itching to FF.

Why do people hate Karen? I thought that actress was pretty good on True Blood. (I've never seen Daredevil)

I don't know what's your problem with Karen, I liked the character a lot, especially after she shot that dude. Loved the relationship she had with the punisher in that series. Not to mention I find her strikingly beautiful, while still having an interesting face.

Netflix is brutal, and they need to remain that way. If the numbers aren’t there, they aren’t there. Nobody has the time or money to coddle mediocre Marvel tripe.

Netflix is cleaning house on shows they don't produce. That's what this all about.
What keep throwing money at these shows when they dont own them and it just works at advertisement for Disney's competing service. It has nothing to do with the numbers r21.

I love Karen. Her backstory this season was pretty heart-breaking, too. I hope Deborah Ann Woll finds another series.

Loved the show--the first season was great; the second was good at all; but the third season was by far the best.
They are expecting it will be picked up by someone else other than netflix, so it is not truly "no more" --it is just no more on Netflix.

I don't envision them shopping it elsewhere especially since Disney isn't renewing licenses for their properties on streaming platforms. Because of the nature of Daredevil they won't have it on their streaming site but Marvel may add Daredevil to their cinematic universe.

[quote]Will it really move to Disney?
No. None of these shows will be on Disney+.
The reason largely seems to be because the Marvel movie team hates the Marvel TV team and the movie team is on good terms with Disney. The linked article suggests Marvel internal politics is the biggest factor.

Daredevil is one of Netflix's prestige shows, and apparently the most watched one of their Marvel shows. Most probably it's in the top 10 of the most viewed shows at Netflix globally.

It's not this season, r28. That's one of the reasons it is being cancelled - the viewership and conversation around it has dropped off. If a season of Daredevil is released in Hell's Kitchen and nobody talks about it, does it have good ratings?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 3, 2018 2:19 PM

R29, season 3 was received extremely well. Obviously season 2 wasn't that great, and other Netflix Marvel shows have dragged Daredevil down with them, but season 3 was a sort of a comeback. The only reason for the cancellation is Netflix getting revenge on Disney for their own subscription service.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 3, 2018 2:27 PM

R30 it was received well by those who saw it, but it had nowhere near the viewers that the first season had . It was a property in decline.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 3, 2018 2:30 PM

R31, we both know that ratings don't work the same way with Netflix as they do with network shows. Season 3 was well liked and will be well liked for decades to come, and it will be one of the reasons Netflix will be getting more subscribers, which is THE reason Netflix is even creating content themselves. It's nonsense to claim Daredevil was cancelled because it lost its viewers.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 3, 2018 2:42 PM

R32 dude, the numbers can easily be compared to earlier seasons. You can see the numbers going down significantly. It doesn't matter how they compare to network TV because they are being compared season to season on Netflix. It's stupid to suggest that there was only ONE reason why it was cancelled. There are usually a number of factors. Netflix has plenty of other highly rated original shows now and doesn't need Daredevil anymore, as well.

Netflix doesn't release any data, other people try to estimate, which who knows how accurate their figures are. Netflix has publicly disputed them on a couple occasions.
Anyway, them cancelling all these shows have nothing to with the numbers, and everything to do with behind the scenes politics.

Netflix released the data to Screen Rant, see the article above

Er....did you read the article? The data does not come from Netflix.
[Quote]Given the absence of solid data, analytics firms have stepped in to fill the gap in our knowledge. Screen Rant has spoken exclusively to Jumpshot, a San Francisco-based analytics company. Their anonymized global panel tracks five billion actions a day across 100 million devices to deliver insights into online consumer behavior.

It's close enough. Do you have some issue with looking at the actual data, or do you want to keep spouting your personal belief? No one is saying that they don't also want to hurt Disney+, just that the viewership has been declining and that's also a big part of the reason. Yet you continue to insist - with no proof or statistics like I provided - that it is solely because of Netflix wanting to screw them over and there's "just no way to know!!!" that viewership has been falling.
If you don't want to believe the statistics on viewership, then look at the social media and discussion around the seasons. They have declined a significant amount too, keeping in sync with the numbers that ScreenRant used.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but the facts don't support your claim

[quote]Netflix’s decision to cancel Marvel’s Daredevil was a surprise. No one knew it was coming. Not the stars, not Marvel’s executives. Not even the writers, who were already laying out plans for the next chapter of Daredevil’s story. We got a chance to talk with one of the writers who was working on season four, who shared her shock at the show’s demise and why she think it spells doom for the future of The Defenders TV universe. “If I was a betting woman, you know, my guess is that it’s the end of the Marvel universe on Netflix,” Daredevil writer Tamara Becher-Wilkinson said.

You're right, it's clearly JUST because Netflix is mean and wanted to damage the property for Disney, not because it was a multilayered decision dealing with lowered viewership and the properties reverting to Disney. Ignore the fact that Netflix still retains streaming rights and the shows will still be on Netflix for some time to come. It's ALL just because they are mean, and the viewership is really UP, not down, despite any evidence or social media mentions or proof. It's all totally believable that it's just Netflix being petulant and NOTHING ELSE. Forever! End of story!

When Netflix executives decided to cancel the Marvel series Daredevil they turned a blind eye to viewer demand.
That’s evident in the latest numbers from Parrot Analytics which reveal that Daredevil ranked fourth last week in viewer demand among all digital originals in the United States across all streaming platforms.

I don't think it was a total shock like that writer said. Deborah Ann Wohl's boyfriend has some sort of podcast. She's on an episode from a few weeks ago and at the end they talk about how he's afraid it will be cancelled and she says something like hopefully the good reviews for season three will keep it going but they don't know yet.
