Well are you?
Nope, I'm a Goldwyn Girl!
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 30, 2018 5:31 AM |
Good grief! Joan in the OP looks like the Joker from Batman.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 30, 2018 6:12 AM |
Yeah, I'm the kept girl of Harry Cohn ... what of it?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 30, 2018 6:23 AM |
Warner's has us right where we want them!
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 30, 2018 6:24 AM |
I’ll call my lawyer and get back to you.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 30, 2018 8:46 AM |
One of those Brothers sucked me off, I forgot which one. But I only got to do 3 pictures, damn it!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 30, 2018 8:52 AM |
I never got a callback. Fuckers.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 30, 2018 10:55 AM |
I thought that was Sonja Henie at R9.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 30, 2018 11:08 PM |
They're fat.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 1, 2018 3:17 AM |
R13 Excuse me, I was signed to 2Oth Century Fox!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 1, 2018 4:19 AM |
This thread has had me cracking up for 24 hours, so I'm bumping this motherfucker.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 1, 2018 5:42 AM |
Not me, no-sir-ee! I'm poised to become the new Doris Day, if only I can shove Carl Laemmle's heaving, gasping corpulence off me before I asphyxiate!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 1, 2018 6:09 AM |
What are you, a carhop or a dress extra?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 1, 2018 6:16 AM |
Not I, Op. And as long as I know where all LB Mayer's skeletons are buried, there's always going to be a supporting role in an MGM feature, and a byline with the Los Angeles Times!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 1, 2018 6:52 AM |
Poll at 50/50.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 1, 2018 5:49 PM |
Yes, and I'm pissed that Jack Warner wouldn't even consider me for My Fair Lady.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 1, 2018 5:54 PM |
Those cheap bastards at Warner Bros signed us to their television division and put us in feature films with no increases in salary! No share of the profits. Nothing. Bastards!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 1, 2018 6:12 PM |
They labelled me box office poison!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 13, 2019 1:03 AM |
Mayer should know the price I pay.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 13, 2019 1:12 AM |
Warner Brothers, Puhlease:
"They were grooming me to be the new Vera Miles,”
“The new who?”
“I was supposed to replace somebody the audience didn’t even know was missing!”
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 13, 2019 2:44 AM |
Doris Day was under contract to Warner Brothers for 7 years and was overjoyed to leave them. They had her do a lot of fluff movies and she almost refused to do one of them toward the end. Her best movie while under Warners was Calamity Jane.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 13, 2019 3:07 AM |
Was watching Merv years ago, and some actor of yesteryear (Victor Mature? Burt Lancaster?) referred to his studio as Penitentiary Fox - I found that amusing and quite telling....
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 13, 2019 3:40 AM |
I was for a little while. Then Warner Brothers stopped making musicals, and they let MGM buy my contract.
“Never let 'em see you ache. That's what Mr. Mayer used to say. Or was it ass? Never let 'em see your ass.”
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 13, 2019 12:18 PM |
I love Bette's outfit in OP's picture.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 13, 2019 12:25 PM |
Shit, my movies made more than Kay's and Bette's, and I was the highest paid actress on the Warner lot!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 15, 2019 7:42 AM |
Why yes. Yes I am.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 16, 2019 9:33 PM |
Zdravstvujtye, DL!. I just signed an exclusive contract with Samuel Goldwyn. Watch out bitches, in a few years I'll become the New Garbo!
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 16, 2019 9:44 PM |
No, I'm at MGM where they have more stars than the heavens.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 16, 2019 9:50 PM |
No, but it's got my initials!
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 16, 2019 11:18 PM |
No.
I'm the girl who works at Paramount all day and Fox all night!
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 16, 2019 11:26 PM |
RKO and Paramount made the best movies of the golden age. Fact.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 16, 2019 11:28 PM |
I only played supporting roles in A movies but I starred in B films (Heat Lightning, HELLO!)
Hell, at least I had fun!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 17, 2019 6:33 AM |
Although Bette gets all the credit for fighting with Jack Warner, I was pissing him off YEARS before she was under contract. The Warner Brothers (né Eichelbaum) all tried to make me slip my panties down, but I fucked men because I wanted to; I wasn't attracted by the Warner Bros. Lilliputian dicks and over-weening egos, not to mention their utter lack of artistry or talent.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 17, 2019 6:51 AM |
Just inked a deal at Metro!
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 17, 2019 12:16 PM |
Congrats, R46!
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 17, 2019 3:29 PM |
Only for about 7 years, OP. Then I became Mrs. Alfred N. Steele and conquered the business world as Pepsi-Cola's brand ambassadress, while still finding time to raise a loving family and make some of my greatest filmic triumphs!
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 14, 2019 9:49 PM |
Trog, R49?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 14, 2019 9:51 PM |
I was only ever contract to my PIMP!
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 14, 2019 9:56 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 14, 2019 10:12 PM |
Sad to say that I’m not.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | June 15, 2019 6:02 PM |
JUUISH!
by Anonymous | reply 54 | June 15, 2019 6:05 PM |
Who is the script girl on this production?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | August 1, 2019 6:11 AM |
R42, I think you meant RKO and Warners.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | August 1, 2019 6:50 AM |
James Cagney grew up on the lower east side of New York in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood and picked up Yiddish from the local kids he hung with. When he was having contract problems with the Warner's, Jack said to his brothers in Yiddish in a meeting with Cagney some disparagement like, "tell him yes but we'll screw him over later." Cagney understood every word and cursed up a storm, in Yiddish, in response. The brothers were absolutely astonished.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 1, 2019 7:35 AM |
Well are you?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 27, 2019 5:40 PM |
That horrible Strickling at Goldwyn is pressuring me into ANOTHER abortion. A lady should only have one abortion per lifetime, otherwise, they will brand me a harlot! Should I leave for Warners? Maybe they will let me keep this one.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 27, 2019 6:03 PM |
I may as well have PROPERTY OF MGM tattooed to my backside!
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 27, 2019 6:15 PM |
R61, give Warners a call. Give it a try.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 27, 2019 6:16 PM |
Well you see Warners Brothers, although they were Jews, alway gave me a fair shot.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | October 27, 2019 7:13 PM |
Was Kirk Douglas ever under contract to Warners?
by Anonymous | reply 65 | February 6, 2020 3:45 AM |
I would like to have been, I'm still awaiting their call, everyday I sit by the telephone waiting with bated breath.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | February 6, 2020 3:52 AM |
Movie-tone News.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | February 6, 2020 3:59 AM |
If I hadn’t taken them to court over their suspension clauses, I would STILL be under contract to them.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | February 6, 2020 4:14 AM |
DON'T FUCK WITH ME FELLAS .
by Anonymous | reply 69 | February 6, 2020 5:07 AM |
Yeah, I’m at Warners... [italic] face down in the mud for twenty takes![/italic] Still, John Garfield was kind enough to request me after my snooty Broadway career tanked. Welcome home, I guess.
GOD, I need a drink - -
