I remember hearing an interview with actor/comedian Chris O’Dowd on the radio (the love interest in Bridesmaids) and he said that he was over 6 feet tall when he was 12. He topped out at 6’3. I was very shocked to hear that it’s possible for boys that young to be that tall but O’Dowd is a normal guy, doesn’t have a tumor in his pituitary gland causing gigantism or anything, so Barron’s preteen tallness is probably just that.

I do suspect Barron is on the spectrum, though to my knowledge autism and height don’t have any correlation.

Both in my experience of being that age which was, admittedly, the 1980s, and of teaching Junior High in the 1990s and early 2000s, I can say it is highly unusual for a child his age to be that size. I didn't know a single student in the 11 to 13 year old range who was taller than 5 foot 8, and the tall boys had all hit puberty already.

You can play soccer and be terrible at it, special need children do sport too.
