Cyndi Lauper Sang The "Pee-wee's Playhouse" Theme Song

Am I the only one who wasn't aware of this? She demanded to be credited as Ellen Shaw because she thought it would hurt her record sales. She admitted to being the singer in her autobiography. I thought they sped up someone's voice. She was doing a Betty Boop impersonation.

Paul Reubens was the original INCEL.

I knew Cyndi sang the song. I didn't know she demanded to use a fake name for it, though.

I never believed that Ellen Shaw credit, and always knew it was Cyndi. She did her Betty Boop vocals on He’s So Unusual and Yeah Yeah on her debut album, and there were some shorts I saw in the 80s of her singing that way.

I felt vindicated when she finally admitted it was her.

She did a cute job with it, but her squeaky silly persona was her own undoing. For every “Time After Time” she did two “Pee Wee” type things. She couldn’t keep up with the times, although she’s worked steadily she never achieved what Madonna did in terms of record sales and tour receipts into the 90s and 00s.

Im sure she has no complaints about her career.

r1....youre an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 6November 24, 2018 3:17 PM

At least her skin condition cleared up!

by Anonymousreply 7November 24, 2018 3:17 PM

Exactly, R5. I am not sure why R4 even went there with the comparison to Madonna, given that they have absolutely nothing in common as artists and I am quite certain that Cyndi is not measuring her own success relative to Madonna's.

Wow, I had no idea. And listening to it now, it seems so obvious. I may not go to work for a week now, just so that it can properly sink in.

by Anonymousreply 9November 24, 2018 3:56 PM

No, I’m not saying it’s a bad career. I admitted she’s worked steadily. I just feel she could have been bigger. She certainly seems to be a nicer person than Madonna. I admire that she succeeded on Broadway, Madonna will probably never be able to say that. She even has an acting Emmy for a TV guest spot, so that’s cool too.

It was always obviously her voice.

I, too, watched some of the Pee-Wee's Playhouse marathon the other night. It's held up well.

Here's another mindblowing fact, the Pointer Sisters sang the Pinball Countdown song from Sesame Street.

Cyndi has Tonys. She has to be close to EGOT.

by Anonymousreply 13November 24, 2018 6:41 PM

Cyndi is only missing as Oscar, which she could easily get with a song.
