This incredibly insane holiday ensemble dramedy is not talked enough about how camp it is.
The mother was utterly unbearable.

R1 Will you take off the GODDAMN tie already, Everett?

Enough, Seabiscuit.

I love this movie and watch it every Holiday season.
I feel no one speaks about it because it was a massive flop when released and part of that was how they promoted the film. They promoted it as a Holiday film surrounded by SJP not being accepted by her boyfriends family. There was a lot more to this movie.

Rachel gives a great performance.

Hated it.

r5 she was the only one who performed any semblance of good acting, i have to say

I wasn't a Diane Keaton fan to begin with, but I have refused to watch another movie with her in it since being subjected to that refuse..
The same goes for SJP and the sap that played her mamas boy fiancé.

I couldn't understand this movie when I first saw it. We were supposed to relate to the family and dislike SJP's character for being fussy and controlling. Instead, the family were all jerks and SJP's character was right to be annoyed with them. It had a weird tone. I still found it enjoyable.

YeH, The in-laws were cunts and SJP was the most relatable.

Love the deaf brother. Too cute for words.

I have a weird obsession with Dermot Mulroney so that adds points to this movie.
He’s one of my favorite things in “FRIENDS” also and he said only in a few episodes as Rachel’s co-worker/love interest.

Delusional cunts. I used to love Rachel McAdams and Keaton but then they started making garbage like this. One of the worst movies ever made.

This movie is awesome emotionally manipulative formulaic holiday treacle. I LOVE IT!

The movie wasn't a flop. It had a budget of $18 million and grossed $92 million worldwide ($60 million stateside).

This is one of my Ex's favorite holiday movies, and he finally queued it up so I could watch it with him. First of all, he knows I get sentimental and emotional, pretty easily. He doesn't, but he enjoys it when I do. We were watching it when it got to some very sad scene , towards the end. He kept checking me, and sure enough, I teared up. Apparently, I get to channel those kinds of emotions for him. That's okay. I think it's a very sweet movie. I really don't like all the hate on SJP here on DL. She used to live in my city, and still comes back to visit. The people I know who've met her have always commented on how very nice she's been.

I too related more to SJP and found the family unbearable.
The whole movie was ultra PC. The brother is deaf AND gay AND has a black partner AND they've adopted. I mean, come on!

Stick a silver spoon up any monkey's butt, it will go "please" and "thank you." Big deal . . .

Is it me or was there a bulge shot when SJP is in a car and she’s looking at that Wilson guy or someone else in sweatpants?

What is the “strata” dish the family makes?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 24, 2018 3:43 AM |
r19 yep. it was clearly intentional (the director is gay)

Worst holiday movie ever. I have a passionate hatred for it. Now Home for the Holidays was a great holiday movie.

It’s flawed but 100 times better than Diane Keaton’s other Christmas movie, “Love The Coopers”.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 24, 2018 4:24 AM |
Love The Coopers is one of the worst films I’ve ever seen.

Diane Keaton has been unwatchable the past 20 years or so.

I didn't care for it much first time I saw it, except for Rachel McAdams. Actually, it was the first time I liked her.....
I happened to catch it on cable a few years later and got hooked in Now I love it and watch it every season. I'm a sucker for great character arcs.
