Especially beyond [italic] Fight Club. [/italic]Worth reading and checking out? I've heard mixed things... I would like to support a fellow gay writer though.
A weird guy. Nerdy face, but great body... HUGE biceps.

He says he had his money embezzled by his accountant.

He's creepy, in a good way. I've read a lot of his books. He has a twisted sense of humor and the absurd/grotesque.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 23, 2018 11:26 PM |
I generally like him. I've read some of his novels, but not all. The ones I've read are fast/easy reads, but aren't dumb. If you're looking for the world's greatest writer, he probably isn't it, but he writes things that make you want to keep reading, which is way more than I can say for most authors.

If only there were a way to hear about readers' reactions and critical praise or critiques. Hmmm, if only...

About 10 years ago it seemed that all the gay I knew loved him and would even call him their favorite author.
I was lent a book of his. I can’t remember, Haunted maybe. It was off-putting and not an easy read for me. There was canibalism toward the end. I remember a scene where those a alive ate the ass of one of people they were trapped with while she was still (barley) alive. They cooked her skin in a microwave and ate it. Even joked about how “greasy” it was. Yes R5, he has a taste for the grotesque.
Fight Club is a much better movie than it is a book. If you haven’t read it don’t bother. The movie is better.
I guess you can tell I’m not a fan.

He absolutely hated when he was outed.

I just found SNUFF under my bed where apparently it was for a number of years.

I thought "Choke" was a good read.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 24, 2018 12:03 AM |
I just finished "Rant." I liked it well enough, but it will certainly not be to everyone's taste. If you've read the book, I think he thinks the whole "partycrashing" element of the book is more interesting than it actually is.

I was a big fan until Haunted, then I lost interest.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 24, 2018 12:44 AM |
Fight Club turned me off. I never went any further.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 24, 2018 12:49 AM |
Overrated.

I loved his novel, “earrings and caftans”
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 24, 2018 3:03 AM |
A gay guy wrote Fight Club? That story is like All About Eve for straight guys.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 24, 2018 3:05 AM |
He's working on a new book, "Secret Lesbians".
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 24, 2018 4:04 AM |
Even with Ursula K. LeGuin finally dead, he's STILL not the greatest or iconic fiction writer living in Portland, OR.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 24, 2018 4:24 AM |
I think INVISIBLE MONSTERS is his best
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 24, 2018 4:37 AM |
Gay? Beg pardon? Chuck Palahniuk? What on earth are you insinuating?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 24, 2018 4:49 AM |
He lives with his partner in Vancouver, Washington. Seems like a good, moody place to write the type of novels he does out there.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 24, 2018 1:29 PM |
How long until his partner is "missing" and it's later discovered he ate him?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 24, 2018 5:28 PM |
Vancouver, WA is a pit.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 24, 2018 5:30 PM |
R9 is right. He was very unhappy when his sexuality became more public given that Fight Club was a huge hit wit straight men. He'd get snappy when it came up in interviews.
He's much hotter in that Amazon link photo. Now he could use a bit more body fat.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 24, 2018 5:40 PM |
R3, he's kinda cute in that photo. He looks much better with facial hair.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 24, 2018 5:48 PM |
I recall reading somewhere that he let a gaggle of semi-homeless skater punk trade boys live in his house, that they sometimes stole things or had caused other problems. Skate-punk orgies, perhaps?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 24, 2018 8:49 PM |
R28, that sounds a bit more like Gus Van Sant.

Oh. Oops.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 25, 2018 2:49 AM |
Weren't there rumors that he is HIV+ and went to sex clubs and didn't disclose his status? Anyone know if there is any truth to that?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 25, 2018 4:04 AM |
Garbage writer. He’s like Stephen King for 20-something bros who fancy themselves as more hip than the average bro. But he’s basic popular fiction.
No grown man with any taste displays his books on his shelf.

I'm all for outrageous gore and shock value, but only if it serves some purpose to further the narrative.
This guy just wants to gross us out for the sake of grossing us out.

His haircut is ugly.

"Pygmy" was a weird read.

The short story where a kid has his anus/colon sucked out by a pool drain made little sensitive fans pass out at his readings.
