Why was Alex Wolff cast as two WASPs son in “Hereditary”?
Me and a friend watched this film recently and we both were confused as to how the casting directors decided to cast Alex Wolff as the son of two VERY WASPy looking people?
He’s Russian, with dark eyes, dark hair and olive skin. The people who play his parents aren’t that. The girl who plays his sister isn’t that.
To the uneducated mind, he’s just “white” so he is their son. To someone else, they see him and know there’s no way he would be the son of those two in real life.
You can say he gets his looks from someone else in their gene pool but please.
I know people that thought he was Middle Eastern.

I've asked the same thing about Colin Farrell's white-adjacent children in the DUMBO live remake. Is this a new form of colorblind casting (a la Brandy & Whitney's CINDERELLA)?

I thought the same thing. Halfway through during the "I tried to abort you" dream I thought it was going to be revealed that Collette's character had the son with another man when she was much younger or something and that's why she didn't want the child.

His mom is Actress Polly Draper, white, and his dad is white and Jewish. His brother is very white looking as well. His coloring is different than theirs.
