Looks disgusting but so delicious and good for you. I just had some on homemade fries with melted mozzarella.

Sounds like a delicious culinary clusterfuck.

by Anonymousreply 1November 20, 2018 1:29 AM

Actually not my own recipe but part of my Plated delivery box.

by Anonymousreply 2November 20, 2018 1:31 AM

Poutine a la Hangul?

I prefer radish kimchee to the cabbage.

by Anonymousreply 3November 20, 2018 1:44 AM

Clams kimchi is the best!

by Anonymousreply 4November 20, 2018 1:59 AM

r3, me too, kimchi can be made out of a lot of veggies

by Anonymousreply 5November 20, 2018 2:03 AM

I love it, but the sodium is off the scale in the delicious brand I favor.

by Anonymousreply 6November 20, 2018 3:54 AM

Seaweed kimchi!

by Anonymousreply 7November 20, 2018 4:41 AM

Love it. Wish I had an H Mart near me. Whole Foods has it but it's crazy pricey vs. H Mart.

by Anonymousreply 8November 20, 2018 4:43 AM

Could you have posted a smaller picture, OP?

by Anonymousreply 9November 20, 2018 4:44 AM

Goes well with ramen.

Kimchee on hot rice. Yum.

by Anonymousreply 11November 20, 2018 5:52 AM

R6, the health food stores have kimchees that, if one can believe the labels, are not sky high in sodium. Now if only there were pickles...

by Anonymousreply 12November 20, 2018 5:59 AM

Dear Eldergays,

Spelling it as "kimchee" ages you so much. If you want to keep chasing cute Korean twinks, you best alter your elderways. It's a very image-obsessed culture.

by Anonymousreply 13November 20, 2018 6:06 AM

Makes me gassy and gives me garlic breath, no thanks.

by Anonymousreply 14November 20, 2018 6:17 AM

R10 Kimchi with ramen is too uniformly hot for me but I know people who love it. I like the pricks of hotness that a morsel of kimchi imparts.

by Anonymousreply 15November 20, 2018 6:43 AM

How does it look disgusting OP? Because it's not a Caucasian dish? Fermented vegetables are very good for you. It looks very delicious.

by Anonymousreply 16November 20, 2018 7:06 AM

Some people lack cultural exposure r16. They don't get out much.

by Anonymousreply 17November 20, 2018 7:15 AM

I always have a jar of kimchi in my fridge.

I probably eat ½ cup a week, just to keep my guts working properly. Plus I like the taste; there are so many varieties.

I doctor my kimchi with some additional fiery chili flakes and a shake of garlic powder.

Often I’ll serve it with some steamed pork pot stickers for a light lunch or supper.

Kimchi is an acquired taste — no one else in my family can stand it — but I really like it.

by Anonymousreply 18November 20, 2018 9:21 AM

I love kimchi stew

by Anonymousreply 19November 20, 2018 9:27 AM

I love it! Could eat it with ramen, fried rice or even by itself.

When I lived in Hawaii a fellow haole used to make her own and bring it to work.

She was told to stop.

by Anonymousreply 21November 20, 2018 3:21 PM

God, the raziness hele.

Make you own! LIke Glamma did.

by Anonymousreply 22November 20, 2018 3:26 PM

I bought a jar of kimchi at Costco. It was tasty but I hated the smell in my fridge, so I gave the jar to my BIL.

by Anonymousreply 23November 20, 2018 3:29 PM

All things good to eat stink.

by Anonymousreply 24November 20, 2018 4:04 PM

The "emergency" (non-fermented) style of kimchi is easy to make, delicious, and has just a few ingredients. You can swap out cabbage for radish and it's even easier. Here's Maangchi's recipe.

H Mart has so many kinds... I don't know which to get.

by Anonymousreply 26November 20, 2018 6:28 PM

The kimchi daikon radish at H Mart is transcendent. Crack cocaine addictive.

by Anonymousreply 27November 20, 2018 6:51 PM

So good for you that South Korea has the highest rate of stomach cancer in the world!

Kimchi and soju farts. Mmmmm I miss the Seoul subway.

i love it, au naturel or in fritters form. Delicious. However, your kimchee with fries and mozzarella sounds horrible. Why fuck up a very good and healthy food like that?

by Anonymousreply 29November 20, 2018 6:58 PM

This is the meal I had. It was actually quite tasty and I enjoyed leftovers last night.

by Anonymousreply 32November 20, 2018 7:07 PM

R26, try the Napa cabbage kimchi. That's one that most people like. Looks like this:

by Anonymousreply 39November 21, 2018 1:33 AM

Bingo

by Anonymousreply 40November 21, 2018 5:10 AM

Korean food looks and tastes like yesterday's leftover, soggy and old.

Give a me Vietnamese Pho, cripy pancakes, stuffed lettuce or rice rolls over any Korean food.

I don’t eat a lot of salty food so my occasional ½ cup of kimchi does not bother me.

There are infinite variations of kimchi, all tasty.

by Anonymousreply 43November 21, 2018 4:17 PM

It smells so bad. Takes over the whole house and seems like it never leaves.

by Anonymousreply 44November 21, 2018 4:20 PM

It's actually pretty good with burgers, though I understand as a pizza topping, not so much.

by Anonymousreply 45November 21, 2018 4:22 PM

I make a delicious Persian cucumber Kimchi.

by Anonymousreply 46November 21, 2018 4:51 PM

I don't care for the chewy, rubbery texture (don't like intestines for the same reason). I prefer my Asian dishes crispy.

by Anonymousreply 47November 21, 2018 5:04 PM

Radish kimchi is crispier than cabbage.

by Anonymousreply 48November 21, 2018 5:50 PM

Radish kimchi is flavorful.

by Anonymousreply 49November 22, 2018 12:19 AM

In Germany it's called Sauerkraut.

by Anonymousreply 50November 23, 2018 2:13 PM

I'm always happy when I hear people say they don't like korean food. I don't want it getting popular and fucked up like Chinese and Thai have been. It's my second fav cuisine.

by Anonymousreply 51November 23, 2018 2:21 PM

how can anyone who likes thai, chinese and japanese dislike korean? It's like an even better version of those combined

by Anonymousreply 52November 23, 2018 3:33 PM

I am fond of both sauerkraut and kimchi, but they are not the same thing.

At Korean restaurants, I've usually just get the chicken bulgogi with the five side dishes, but lately I've been ordering the hot tofu soup also in an effort to boost my sluggish metabolism.
