“Ingrid Goes West” starring Aubrey Plaza, Elizabeth Olsen, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Billy Magnussun is SO GOOD

I watched “Ingrid Goes West” in theaters when it came out and it was so good. I recently watched it again and liked it just as much.

It’s about Ingrid (Aubrey Plaza) and she is a social media stalker who becomes obsessed with Taylor (Liz Olsen) and insinuates herself into the life of Taylor (whose Instagram famous).

It’s so good. A dark comedy. Watch it if you haven’t.

Well I’m not an old stuck up bitch like you, R1. I highly enjoyed it. It was clever, witty and at least attempted to be different from everything else that’s released now.

by Anonymousreply 2November 16, 2018 7:46 PM

best cult film we had in a long time

What a story! Everything but the bloodhounds snappin' at her rear end.

I loved this too! And the cherry on top is DL Fave Billy Magnussen has extended shirtless scenes, as well. Very original and entertaining.

by Anonymousreply 5November 16, 2018 10:35 PM

Whose going to call out the OP on spelling?

by Anonymousreply 6November 16, 2018 10:39 PM

who would think the Olsen Twins would have a sister who is a true movie star...

by Anonymousreply 7November 17, 2018 4:46 AM

I enjoyed it, but it kind of fizzled out at the end. I would watch a series just about Ingrid where she stalks a new person each week, though.

by Anonymousreply 8November 17, 2018 4:51 AM

I would rather cast Ice Cube's son instead of Denzil Washington's....

by Anonymousreply 9November 17, 2018 5:11 AM

R9 in what? Cause Ice Cubes is in this

by Anonymousreply 10November 17, 2018 5:12 AM

O'Shea is the son of Ice Cube the good looking black guy in movie....

by Anonymousreply 11November 17, 2018 5:27 AM

Billy was HOT! A truly awful person though. Most of them were. I think there’s a lot of Ingrid’s out there.

Did I mention: Bill was HOT!

by Anonymousreply 12November 17, 2018 5:33 AM

Again, his Face is meh.

by Anonymousreply 13November 17, 2018 6:02 AM

Loved it. Aubrey Plaza never disappoints.

by Anonymousreply 14November 17, 2018 12:43 PM

Aubrey is iconic. I really enjoyed this movie

by Anonymousreply 15November 17, 2018 3:03 PM

Liz Olsen is really cute in this.

Aubrey Plaza's Twitter handle is # evilhag. I love her even more now.

by Anonymousreply 18January 12, 2019 3:47 AM

I liked it a lot, but couldn't believe he stayed with her at the end. "You're a hot guy, OShea, and she's a psycho who got you hospitalized"

by Anonymousreply 19January 12, 2019 3:58 AM

Loved it. Really captures this weird moment in time. And it took me a while before I realized the hunk was Goldie's son. He really looks like a male Goldie.

by Anonymousreply 20January 12, 2019 4:04 AM

R19 I hated how he stayed also. It’s good he saved her life but that’s it. Leave her there in the Hospital. lol.

by Anonymousreply 21January 12, 2019 4:04 AM

Billy Magnussen looks great almost naked but his face is meh. Overrated.

by Anonymousreply 22January 12, 2019 10:43 AM

I seriously love this damn movie. Quite a surprise

by Anonymousreply 23April 25, 2019 1:16 PM

Aubrey is terrible

by Anonymousreply 24April 27, 2019 11:25 AM

I was listening to the commentary and the director pointed out that the last voice that says "I am Ingrid" is Taylor.

by Anonymousreply 25April 27, 2019 12:00 PM

Shirtless Bill pics please.

by Anonymousreply 26April 27, 2019 12:10 PM

[quote]Aubrey Plaza

Stupid fucking name.

by Anonymousreply 27April 27, 2019 12:13 PM

I was telling my friends about this movie. Oddly enough, it reminded me of my HS experience in the late 2000s. Social media wasn't much of a factor, besides Facebook. I went to extreme lengths, spending a lot of money (thanks mom), trying to be cool. In the end, my personality didn't warrant a long-term connection so the cool kids moved on. It hurt and I internally became more desperate to be liked.

After graduating, I was able to be a little more self-reflective and found that allowing your personality to shine is so important, don't try to fit into other people's groove, Be you and you will be where you need to be.

Rant over, I really enjoyed the movie but I was uncomfortable during some segments because it brought up my insecurities.

by Anonymousreply 28April 27, 2019 12:40 PM

Love, love, loved it. Watched several times in a row. Really a snapshot of our fucked-up social media culture.

by Anonymousreply 29April 27, 2019 12:45 PM

You know, R4? It really is essentially a remake of "All About Eve." A successful one, too, authentic to our time. Much better than trying to actually remake "All About Eve."

by Anonymousreply 30April 27, 2019 12:47 PM

Like the poster upthread, I'm in my 50s but I thought it was great and spot-on. I'm fascinated by these Instagram influencer types. What can I say, I like to keep up with the hep kids.

by Anonymousreply 31April 27, 2019 12:48 PM

Nice op!!! I passed and passed and passed that one thinking I would not like it. I will check it out today!

by Anonymousreply 32April 27, 2019 12:50 PM

I loved Plaza and she was great in Parks & Recreation, but the character reminded me of those sad. lonely people that stalk random stars like Taylor Swift or young girls who kill themselves because they're being shunned online by the cool kids. That is, her sadness seemed to "real life" to enjoy her pulling a fast one the obnoxious Instagram influencer

by Anonymousreply 33April 27, 2019 12:58 PM

[quote] insinuates herself into the life of Taylor (whose Instagram famous).

(who's Instagram famous)

[quote] Denzil Washington

by Anonymousreply 34April 27, 2019 1:33 PM

Is there a shot of Billy M in his underwear?

by Anonymousreply 35April 27, 2019 1:34 PM

R35 can you people get a grip.

He’s not even hot in this cause his character is AWFUL. 100% white male stereotype racist trash.

by Anonymousreply 36April 27, 2019 2:33 PM

I like the movie but it was sooo unbelievable that O'Shea Jackson stuck around at the end. No guy would stick around after all that.

by Anonymousreply 37April 27, 2019 6:53 PM

My brother just gave it to me for my birthday and now I see this... Kismet. Will put it on today.

by Anonymousreply 38April 27, 2019 6:54 PM

O’shea Jackson is cute.

by Anonymousreply 39April 27, 2019 7:17 PM

I'm watching it now. Elizabeth and Audrey are great together.

by Anonymousreply 40April 27, 2019 8:49 PM

R40 I love Elizabeth in this movie. A lot. She’s so good at playing that type of role!

by Anonymousreply 41April 27, 2019 8:51 PM

This is a good one. Surprisingly good. I didn't think I would like it but I loved it.

by Anonymousreply 42June 20, 2019 2:41 AM

Martha Marcy May Marlene starring Elizabeth Olsen is very good, too.

by Anonymousreply 43June 20, 2019 2:48 AM

It’s not even slightly AAE.

by Anonymousreply 44June 20, 2019 2:53 AM

Just watched it based on this thread. Thanks! It was a fun watch, but I think it's more an update of "Single White Female" than "All About Eve."

by Anonymousreply 45June 20, 2019 11:47 PM

Its neither of those films

by Anonymousreply 46June 21, 2019 3:40 AM

R43 it is! That was the first thing I ever saw Olsen in.

by Anonymousreply 47June 21, 2019 7:56 AM

Olsen is actually a pretty good actress and movie star.

by Anonymousreply 48June 21, 2019 7:59 AM

Olsen is two noted and that's all. Not overly talented but good at what she's good at

by Anonymousreply 49June 22, 2019 5:31 PM

I liked "Ingrid" a lot....I need to watch it again.

by Anonymousreply 50June 22, 2019 5:38 PM

I genuinely love this one.

by Anonymousreply 51November 10, 2019 11:52 PM

The first 10 minutes.

Liz Olsen was perfectly cast in this

by Anonymousreply 52November 10, 2019 11:57 PM

I consider this a companion piece to the Talented Mr. Ripley! I've met each of these characters : aspiring screenwriter, shallow social media bimbo, lame wannabe artist that talks big, douchebag brother. It also shows realistic social media stalking.

by Anonymousreply 53November 11, 2019 12:03 AM

Aubrey is an awesome icon. The movie sounds epic.

by Anonymousreply 54November 11, 2019 12:05 AM

Thanks for reminding me. I loved this movie.

by Anonymousreply 55November 11, 2019 1:20 AM

May have to watch this again. It’s been long and I liked it.

by Anonymousreply 56December 3, 2019 10:01 PM

I really loved this movie! Ingrid is nuts but also totally relatable in a lot of ways. Aubrey Plaza is a total weirdo and a genius. I'm sure she would be a lot of fun to hang out with

by Anonymousreply 57December 3, 2019 10:23 PM

R57 She seems very down to earth and funny. And weird. But I like that about her lol. She doesn’t care.

by Anonymousreply 58December 3, 2019 10:28 PM

It's a fascinating character study about (a) someone who's living her life through instagram and online connections and (b) someone who is so self-centered she posts everything she does / says / thinks because she thinks she's that interesting

by Anonymousreply 59December 3, 2019 10:36 PM

As well as Internet stalking and obsession r59

by Anonymousreply 60December 3, 2019 10:38 PM

Nice barrette.

by Anonymousreply 61December 3, 2019 10:48 PM

I laughed when Aubrey remained in character and wore the same dress as Liz Olsen to the films premiere

by Anonymousreply 62December 3, 2019 10:53 PM

Can’t stand Aubrey Plaza but this movie sounds pretty good. I’m going to give it a watch.

by Anonymousreply 63December 3, 2019 11:12 PM

I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop and that Taylor would recognize Ingrid from the first time they met. Nicky was an asshole who should've been called out. Also agree on Dan not sticking around after being in the hospital.

by Anonymousreply 64January 30, 2020 10:44 AM

Dan should have never let Ingrid manipulate him.

by Anonymousreply 65January 30, 2020 12:44 PM

R65 he should have been more like Batman lol

by Anonymousreply 66January 30, 2020 1:37 PM

I've seen Aubrey on talk show interviews and she's very funny and extremely dry - a total unique personality for Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 67January 30, 2020 2:00 PM

I always found her still being good friends with Chris Pratt refreshing. Their personalities, Political stances and morals etc. are all opposite. So the fact they are still good friends makes me happy. I hate how people cut others off simply because they are Republicans or Democrats etc. who cares? We are all human.

by Anonymousreply 68January 30, 2020 2:02 PM

R68 is Chris the only one she's still friends with from that cast??

by Anonymousreply 69January 30, 2020 11:30 PM

R69 pretty sure yes. She doesn’t interact with any of the rest ever.

by Anonymousreply 70January 30, 2020 11:36 PM

It was an excellent movie OP

The type of offbeat indie film I wish there were more of.
