by Anonymousreply 1November 14, 2018 9:16 PM

I get the impression that William and Harry are both hung.

by Anonymousreply 2November 15, 2018 12:54 AM

R601 from another thread... I agree with a lot of what you said. I think for a long time the view of the Queen and Prince Philip was that Camilla didn't do anything to help the situation. And again, I think the Queen in particular sought cooling off periods and delays and keep trying until Diana went rogue and did the interview calling into question Charles' fitness for the throne. Then the Queen moved, because the institution was threatened. So through that lens I can see the Queen taking the view Camilla only made matters worse and should have backed off. I imagine that resentment or feeling lingered. The Queen wasn't alone in disliking Camilla in the years after Diana's death. I don't know if Diana was actually mentally ill... she was certainly impulsive in the extreme but I am always mindful of something she said in one of her interviews: the best way to dismantle a personality is to isolate it. It was as if she knew too she was pushing it too far, which she often did. I remember really disliking her manic antics in the summer of her death. She was definitely spinning.

by Anonymousreply 3November 15, 2018 1:00 AM

Bump

by Anonymousreply 4November 15, 2018 1:04 AM

I think after Diana died the Queen got over her resentments quickly. She certainly must have been upset with Charles most of all, but felt the two boys had to come first. So I can see her sitting down with Charles, finally, and asking him what they could all do to support him so that he could do his duty as a father to those two boys. And ICan hear Charles telling her how terrible he felt and how guilty about the whole mess, etc. and then telling her that Camilla was THE ONE, and while they would go slowly and discreetly, he would never get involved or marry anyone else. The queen in the interest of peace, agreed. For the sake of the boys.As time passed the Queen could see that Charles was living up to his end of things and eventually everything settled down.

by Anonymousreply 17November 15, 2018 1:47 PM

The Queen carried out an engagement with King Harald of Norway this afternoon:

Here's why they said upon greeting each other:

"Thank you for a nice party yesterday,’ says Harald.

’I’m so glad,’ replies the Queen, ’Charles enjoyed himself’.

‘He looked like it,’ the king replies warmly.

"No Sonja?" Asked the Queen referring to the Queen of Norway who also attended Charles' party last night.

"No Sonja. She didn't feel very good this morning and decided it was best not to come."

"Oh too bad" replied the Queen.

It's very old world European manners to eat fruit with a knife and fork. Actually, it's more like never eat anything with your hands. I once heard Italian friends of my parents (who were from Spain) boasting about how they were taught to peel an orange with a knife and fork. This was back in the 70s during a conversation about how Americans have such awful table manners.

by Anonymousreply 24November 15, 2018 5:28 PM

Have Europeans stopped eating fruit with forks? When I was a kid I was told that everyone in France did this. I've been to Europe, but I have no recollection of seeing anyone eating fruit.

by Anonymousreply 25November 15, 2018 5:47 PM

I ate raspberries today with a spoon. I've never eaten them with a fork.

by Anonymousreply 29November 15, 2018 6:23 PM

The British Royal family and the Norwegian Royal family are quite close, if I understand correctly. They're fairly close cousins, relatively speaking.

by Anonymousreply 30November 15, 2018 7:15 PM

R30 Yes, they are friendly and closely related. The present King's grandmother (Queen Maude) was Queen Elizabeth II's great-aunt being the sister of the Queen's grandfather, George V. The Queen, and the Queen Mum, were close with King Olav, King Harald's father. King Olav is the only foreign monarch who was given every major order of chivalry during the Queen's reign. Olav as a member of the Order of the Garter, The Order of the Thistle, The Order of Bath and the Royal Victorian Order. Most Foreign monarchs get the Garter and the Royal Victorian Order maximum.

by Anonymousreply 31November 15, 2018 8:02 PM

R31, thanks for that detail!

by Anonymousreply 32November 15, 2018 11:50 PM

Brigadier Sir Nils Olav III is the Colonel in Chief of the Norwegian King’s Guard. He lives in Edinburgh Zoo. Norway gifts Christmas trees to various British cities, it seems to be a long standing friendship.

If they are, there’s nothing wrong with wearing imitation jewelry...especially at a time when it’s all the People can afford.

Accessories are to be chosen because they appeal to the owner ... not because of their cost.

A lot of Coco Chanel’s jewelry was imitation, and no one would say it was anti-style in any way.

by Anonymousreply 52November 16, 2018 2:17 PM

R52 I'm sure a healthy portion of Kate's wardrobe allowance is paid for by proceeds from the Duchy of Cornwall. In any event, most of her daywear looks like she bought it at Top Shop.

by Anonymousreply 53November 16, 2018 2:25 PM

Even if it did, which it didn’t, Kate wears affordable high street far better than Susette wears designer. Kate looks fitted and Suzette looks like Diane von Furstenberg’s unmade bed.

by Anonymousreply 54November 16, 2018 2:35 PM

Kate’s clothing might be fitted but boy are they ugly. She dresses like a 60 year old woman. I don’t think you necessarily have to wear youthful clothes all the time, but you don’t have to look matronly either. Kate looks matronly, not conservative..

by Anonymousreply 55November 16, 2018 2:38 PM

R55 - Kate is the future Queen of England. She doesn't have to be a fashion plate. Conservative clothes are encouraged so she won't upstage William. Her job is NOT to make waves. She plays it safe. She knows her place and wears her clothes well. Diana the Fashion Icon learned that lesson the hard way.

Royals further down the line of succession have a lot more freedom to wear more stylish clothes but that comes with risks (wardrobe malfunctions, see through clothes, bra showings etc...).

by Anonymousreply 56November 16, 2018 2:52 PM

Kate is well known for mixing High St in with designer, lots of rich people do that.

by Anonymousreply 57November 16, 2018 2:59 PM

Kate’s style is classic. Simple, tailored lines that suit her figure and often her great legs.

And she always takes the tags off.

by Anonymousreply 58November 16, 2018 3:03 PM

And snips the vent stitch.

by Anonymousreply 59November 16, 2018 3:03 PM

Going back to Charles' 70th birthday party, there will be formal pictures because it was considered a private family events. The British Royals tend to prefer that these types of gatherings be private. This is in contrast to the Scandinavian royals who typically throw large formal galas on the public dime that are televised.

So the confirmed list of foreign royals who attended are:

King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway along with Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit (confirmed from an Instagram pic).

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians (Photographed entering the palace).

Prince Albert of Monaco (Photographed entering the palace).

Queen Sofia of Spain and her sister Princess Irene (Photographed entering the palace)..

Princess [formerly Queen] Beatrix of the Netherlands (Photographed entering the palace).

Crown Prince Frederik & Crown Princess Mary of Denmark (Instagram pic confirmed)

Prince Nikolaos & Princess Tatiana of Greece (Photographed entering the palace).

Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia (Photographed entering the palace).

Queen Rania of Jordan (Photographed entering the palace).

by Anonymousreply 60November 16, 2018 3:06 PM

R60 That should read there will be NO formal pictures

by Anonymousreply 61November 16, 2018 3:07 PM

[quote]Kate’s style is classic.

Kate's style is frumpy. Matronly, as R55 said. Made even worse by her long hair that should have been cut to above her shoulders years ago. She's a mother of three and her hair hasn't changed since was at Marlborough.

by Anonymousreply 62November 16, 2018 3:11 PM

I bet there will be footage or photos included in the Christmas message. They also released a family photo from a black tie private dinner to celebrate the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s 60th or 65th or 70th wedding anniversary so still think something will be made public at some point.

by Anonymousreply 63November 16, 2018 3:15 PM

Even if you want to call it frumpy it’s better turned out than that pathetic mistake Harry married. She’s gotten it right what - twice since she slithered onto the scene?

by Anonymousreply 64November 16, 2018 3:17 PM

Depends on what you call "right". The whole statement is so soccer momish.

by Anonymousreply 65November 16, 2018 3:42 PM

R62, I agree about her hair. Call me old-fashioned, but very few middle-aged women can carry off that long girlish hair. It actually ages them.

I also think her style is a little frumpy, but she’s invariably correct and always impeccable.

by Anonymousreply 66November 16, 2018 3:56 PM

Unless you are the PR and just pile it on your head like a Gibson doughnut.

by Anonymousreply 67November 16, 2018 4:01 PM

I suppose to some matronly is to be in your mid to late 30s and carefully choosing NOT to flash her lace bra to the public, sport a slit up to her crotch on official tours, and repeated glaring outlines of a padded strapless bra.

by Anonymousreply 68November 16, 2018 5:50 PM

Actually, wearing bed linen or curtain dresses is matronly.

by Anonymousreply 69November 16, 2018 5:55 PM

Given that wearing curtain dresses is matronly according to R69, Merchin' Meg is the definition of matronly.

The curtain dress she wore to the wedding of one of Harry's friends - lest we forget.

by Anonymousreply 70November 16, 2018 6:04 PM

How not to be matronly 101: Take every opportunity to flash your undergarments (see the padded nude bra bared near the armpit)

Margrethe looks wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 76November 16, 2018 9:04 PM

R72 too bad about her teeth! Margrethe was very beautiful in her youth but her chain smoking has taken its toll.

It's interesting if you look at the royal born Queens in Europe - Elizabeth, Margrethe , and Beatrix (now back to Princess) all kept their hair natural. Queen Elizabeth started graying in the late 1970s but in the early 90s (at the height of the Charles/Diana problems) she became noticeably gray very quickly.

Not criticizing but commoners Queen Silvia of Sweden and Queen Sonja of Norway continue to dye their hair - Silvia is in her mid-70s and Queen Sonja is 81.

Kate’s dress sense is perfectly correct for her position. Having said that, it’s also boring as shit.

by Anonymousreply 82November 17, 2018 6:53 AM

As far as Will and Kate delaying marriage for 10 years, I don't think it had anything to do with being prudent. I think it was to delay her having to take up royal duties, submit to royal restrictions and also face scrutiny and criticism. In the entire 10 years, Kate never gave an interview or made an appearance except at social events. But ultimately they had to marry so they could start producing heirs.

by Anonymousreply 83November 17, 2018 6:58 AM

Probably stupid questiona, but are Queen Consorts HMs or HRHs? I would assume that they are HMs because even if non-regnant, they are still Queens. Was Prince Consort Albert HM or HRH? I would assume HRH because he was still only a Prince.

by Anonymousreply 84November 17, 2018 7:39 AM

^ questions, not questiona. Sorry.

by Anonymousreply 85November 17, 2018 7:41 AM

Yes, R84 - for example, even though her husband the King died in early 1952, the Queen Mum was still titled "Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. Once a HM, always a HM. Correct, Albert was HRH. A King can make his spouse a Queen, but a Queen regnant cannot make her spouse a King (Philip}. He would be a Prince, excepting that he was already a King in his own right.

by Anonymousreply 106November 17, 2018 8:19 PM

Camilla and Kate seemed to have an easy rapport at Harry's wedding. Remember when the preacher kept going and going and Camilla made some sort of a joke or comment to Kate, who had to duck her head and restrain herself from laughing?

by Anonymousreply 107November 17, 2018 8:59 PM

What was the part of the ceremony where the guests burst into laughter? A friend mentioned it was during the sermon when the preacher spoke about faithfulness, but that cannot be right? Who watched and can clue me in?

by Anonymousreply 108November 17, 2018 9:24 PM

It was just when the American preacher went full on tent revival and rang long on top of it. They were just like WTF? and close to giggles. I don't think anybody laughed out loud but it was amusing in its cluelessness. (They should translate that into Latin and make it the Sussex family motto.)

Recall the preacher later gave an interview where he said he'd never met the bride or groom prior to the ceremony.

R83 William and Kate didn't delay marriage for 10 years . They probably got together in 2003 and got engaged in 2010 , married in 2011. That's about the same relationship time frame as Eugenie's.

by Anonymousreply 115November 17, 2018 10:03 PM

They were also 19 when they first got together. It was smart to wait until they were both fully formed adults and Kate had an excellent picture of what she was getting herself into. The success of the marriages shows that the waiting game was the right plan.

by Anonymousreply 116November 17, 2018 10:07 PM

R113, that was, I think, someone called Samantha Cohen, who had previously been an Assistant Private Secretary to the Queen. Never heard tell of Melissa... may have been a PA... drycleaning, errands, freebies, beatings with a hanger, the usual stuff.

by Anonymousreply 117November 17, 2018 10:13 PM

It's not unusual for British people of their class to marry in their 30s nowadays. The days of marrying at 21 are long gone.

by Anonymousreply 118November 17, 2018 10:15 PM

R118 Yes nowadays even among the middle class marrying during early twenties is judged as a really low class thing to do.

by Anonymousreply 122November 18, 2018 1:26 AM

There was a rumor right after Kate and William were married that Kate could not have children that allegedly came from Camilla. So who knows if everything is so peachy indeed. You don’t see any particular tension between William and his father either, and yet their relationship is reportedly less than great. These are not the Markles, they know (well, mostly) to behave in public.

by Anonymousreply 123November 18, 2018 6:44 AM

[R123]....indeed,but i see the royalist on DL are looking for a fairy-taled happy ending.Newsflash, you all attack the Duchess of Sussex but leave Camilla alone. When its Camilla who really deserves the attacks. An yes,I don't that the Duchess of Cambridge likes Prince Charles's wife......but we shall see when he ascends the throne.Best the bestie angle dies faster then a NY minute.

by Anonymousreply 124November 18, 2018 9:32 AM

R120 That's some impressive eyebrows Louis has there.

by Anonymousreply 125November 18, 2018 12:09 PM

In r121's photo, see how far Charles ' trousers are riding up when he 's seated, is it normal to show so much sock?

by Anonymousreply 126November 18, 2018 12:50 PM

R124 Cammie wasn’t the manipulative serial husband fucker, that would be Di.

by Anonymousreply 127November 18, 2018 1:08 PM

Camilla won't make waves. It's not her style, and there's no real point to it: Kate isn't going anywhere, and messing with her would just create unnecessary tension. Whatever her other faults, Camilla isn't a drama queen. Diana is the one who liked drama.

If Diana had been willing to play ball (let Charles and Camilla have their private fun and take her own lovers as required) and keep a good public face on her marriage, Camilla would probably have been happy to play royal mistress forever.

by Anonymousreply 128November 18, 2018 1:18 PM

That would be a lot to ask of someone who is not mentally stable and who requires huge amounts of external validation to function, R128. That works for many but Diana was a mess. Throwing herself down steps whilst pregnant? Wearing headphones to dinners with RF? Harry seems to have inherited that instability.

by Anonymousreply 129November 18, 2018 1:32 PM

Yes, Harry is very much his mother's son.

by Anonymousreply 130November 18, 2018 1:37 PM

Prince Harry lost his mum.He is entitled to handle that situation any way he sees fit.If it means handling phony Camilla,so be it.I suspect Camilla isn't too nice to the Duchess of Sussex. But she would be a fool to push it.Prince Harry already has the popularity and backing. Those crying bitter tears for how unfair Camilla is treated, better wake up. I don't think Prince Harry will allow another person he loves to be subjected to the vile treatment the firm did to his mum.

by Anonymousreply 131November 18, 2018 1:44 PM

R131 Harry is powerless. He’s nowhere in the grand scheme of things, Cam will be queen. What exactly do you think he will do? Draw moustaches on the official pictures?

by Anonymousreply 132November 18, 2018 1:47 PM

Harry's mother has been dead for two decades. He can feel any way he wants about that, but it doesn't give him license to act the fool. Camilla will be Queen consort in another 5 years or so, and Meghan should be kissing Camilla's ass at every available opportunity. Kate's, too. In the future, these women (and their husbands) can make Meghan's life much easier or much harder if they choose, and there's little Harry can do about that. If Meghan has any sense, she'll recognize the power dynamics and adjust her actions accordingly.

by Anonymousreply 133November 18, 2018 1:55 PM

how exactly is charles and william's relationship 'not so great'?

by Anonymousreply 134November 18, 2018 2:08 PM

That's just it - Diana was a narcissistic drama queen - spoiled and petulant - it never occurred to her that she was supposed to have assimilated into the family in which she married. NO. They were all expected to abandon their conventional ways to cater to her wants and needs. They refused to indulge her, and therein lies a great deal of the trouble. Charles: "You don't understand. She's MAD (insane) I tell you! MAD!"

by Anonymousreply 135November 18, 2018 2:09 PM

When did he say that, R135?

by Anonymousreply 136November 18, 2018 2:11 PM

^When "things became irrevocably broken down" R136. I read it in a biography. He said it at the point when he no longer wanted anything to do with her again - when he stopped trying.

by Anonymousreply 137November 18, 2018 2:32 PM

Harry is probably as crazy and broken inside as Merching. Like attracts like. When she is done with him, he will be worse off.

He has the poor genes and the childhood trauma (lots of it).

His child/ren will not fare better.

Sad.

R123 Based on the allegations from insiders there is underlying father/son tension between William and Charles but not a rift. The tension seems to stem from similar temperaments in that they're both known to be be moody and stubborn. The bone of contention on William's part seems to be that he feels his father has somewhat negelected him and Harry due to his workaholic tendencies, often putting duty before family. Indeed, in the recent documentary Charles at 70, William laments the fact that Charles doesn't spend as much time with his grandchildren as William thinks he should.

by Anonymousreply 143November 18, 2018 4:17 PM

[quote]I feared she was en route to becoming the Poor Edith of the Royal Family

Brit royalty has a way of removing embarrassing, odd bod royals from public sight and scrutiny by shipping them off to another country. I wouldn't be surprised that if the Italian turns out to be a damp squib, Bea is sent off to Australia, Canada or the US.

by Anonymousreply 144November 18, 2018 4:18 PM

Might leaking MeAgain meet the same fate, R144?

by Anonymousreply 145November 18, 2018 4:32 PM

Meghan isn't even a citizen. If things go south with Harry in the next few years, before she's locked up UK citizenship, it's back to the USA with her, while any children stay with the Windsors. By an archaic UK law, any grandchildren of the monarch belong to the monarch, so technically Baby Sussex is the Queen's baby.

by Anonymousreply 146November 18, 2018 4:37 PM

Lucky baby.

by Anonymousreply 147November 18, 2018 4:43 PM

Lol to those who think the BRF own any child of a US citizen. MM only need take her child home to visit the grannies and bingo - file for divorce in CA, where joint custody is the default ruling

by Anonymousreply 148November 18, 2018 5:22 PM

She can't take her child out of the UK without the Queen's permission, R148. Permission which would not be forthcoming if they thought bolting was the slightest possibility.

Why the fuck do people think being a US citizen guarantees you any kind of protection in foreign countries? We don't even give our citizens decent healthcare: The US Government isn't going to the mat over one trashy actress.

by Anonymousreply 151November 18, 2018 6:20 PM

R139 - if those rumours are true, it would be a bad move on Beatrice's part. The British public is probably suffering from royal wedding fatigue at this point. If she and her boyfriend do get married next year (which would be unwise in itself, given that they haven't even been together for long) they should do it quietly, like Anne's children did. Taxpayers would not be thrilled about having to fund security for a third extravagant wedding in such a short space of time.

by Anonymousreply 152November 18, 2018 7:00 PM

Yeah but considering that face you gotta figure even the most weary nation would rejoice.

by Anonymousreply 153November 18, 2018 7:02 PM

Eugenie should have married quietly and privately too, given her increasingly irrelevance to the line of succession. Andrew's endless need to push his plain-and-pleasant daughters before the eyes of the public is pathetic at this point.

by Anonymousreply 154November 18, 2018 7:04 PM

[R152]Andrew is a multi-millionaire,why isn't he funding wedding security.Or has he convinced his Mum to baby him again and dig deep in her privy purse.

It’s unlikely she’ll want to flee, though....unless she’s forced to stare at Bea’s stupid bug-eyed cow face for too long. (GOD, but that girl’s unfortunate looking!!)

by Anonymousreply 160November 19, 2018 3:50 AM

Yeah no, fucking embassy isn't going to employ no damn helicopter to spirit Meghan and spawn out of the clutches of the BRF. The chopper shit is the stuff of fantasists. The State Dept can't even fill a fraction of its positions that lie vacant since a certain Cheetoh depleted its funding. They still operate sure, but it's lean times currently. Nah, bitch would just sit in a corner, sulk and play a pr waiting game with Lillibet.

And yet last year we read that Charles is upset because he never sees the kids because William and Kate are withholding them (although the Middletons see the kids regularly).

by Anonymousreply 165November 19, 2018 10:43 AM

If a child is born in the U.K. and lives in the U.K., their courts have jurisdiction in any custody disputes. There are treaties covering this.

by Anonymousreply 166November 19, 2018 10:50 AM

There is some royal rule that technically the custody is vested in the monarch for babies born in the line of succession. There have been articles about it. If she bounces, she likely will not want to be encumbered by the kid anyway.

by Anonymousreply 167November 19, 2018 12:48 PM

Yes r167. She would love the PR of being so cruelly separated from her child by the racist all-powerful rich people. She can set up pap strolls looking longingly at children’s clothing stores, looking sad in a playground, sitting forlorn on a swing set. That way she can do as many drugs as she wants, inject whatever she likes into her face, fuck her way round every rich and dim mark and still not worry about being reported as a bad mom. That’s PR you can’t buy.

by Anonymousreply 168November 19, 2018 1:06 PM

Andrew is going to have a rude awakening when Charles becomes King. Charles isn't going to indulge him like the Queen does.

by Anonymousreply 169November 19, 2018 1:14 PM

Charles also isn’t going to to indulge the other siblings either. He’s not close to any of them.

by Anonymousreply 170November 19, 2018 1:27 PM

R170 He gets on with Anne fairly well I believe.

by Anonymousreply 171November 19, 2018 2:44 PM

Does anyone know why there have been so many "leaks" about Meghan Markle and her supposed diva antics? Is it the queens from the palace or Andy or the DM on steroids?

by Anonymousreply 172November 19, 2018 3:15 PM

I can kind of see where Andrew was coming from in wanting Eugenie's wedding to be televised like Harry's. Harry's one job is to be a representative of the BRF and, to some extent, the United Kingdom. Look at all the stupid stuff he's done in public over the years - being photographed in a Nazi uniform, getting into a drunken scuffle with a photographer, using the word "Paki" on video, being photographed playing strip poker. None of these are the crime of the century – everyone does stupid things when they’re young – but he’s done far more to embarrass the BRF than Beatrice or Eugenie ever has. Both of them get mocked by the press for the crimes of A) not looking like models and B) having bad fashion sense.

Yet Harry’s much more irresponsible behaviour is framed as making him the “normal”, down-to-earth royal, and is excused because he’s quite charming and he lost his mum at a young age. And when Eugenie was about to get engaged to her long-term partner, she got pipped to the post by Harry and a woman he’d been dating long-distance for all of five minutes. I can understand why Andrew wanted Eugenie to have one day where she showed everyone how lovely she looked and how happy she and Jack seem together. The BRF should have covered the security costs themselves, though.

by Anonymousreply 173November 19, 2018 3:44 PM

by Anonymousreply 177November 19, 2018 5:16 PM

I was kind of hoping this thread wouldn’t mention Meghan, because the people who don’t like her are so annoying, more annoying than Meghan will ever be. Who sits around imagining pages of conversations between two people (Harry and Meghan) they have never met? So weird.

by Anonymousreply 178November 19, 2018 5:22 PM

Harry the Dim (to put it mildly) got exactly the wife he deserved, no question about it.

by Anonymousreply 179November 19, 2018 5:38 PM

Conversations, R178? The posters in this thread have gone waaaay past conversations. They’ve imagined an elaborate scenario in which Meghan is already planning to flee the UK with her baby, and hide him in the US. Because they just know that she’s up to no good. Like a comic book villain 🙄

by Anonymousreply 180November 19, 2018 6:12 PM

I do not get the hatred of the veil. I thought it was magnificent. It played off very well with the simplicity of the gown. And it was ornate only at the edges.

by Anonymousreply 193November 19, 2018 8:24 PM

The veil was just like Meggers.

Preposterous. Pompous. Pure trash.

by Anonymousreply 194November 19, 2018 8:28 PM

I don't care what some of you say. She is pregnant. While she has never had a small waist in proportion to the rest of her body. she is becoming visibly thicker. The extra hanging over the top of the dress by her armpits is not due to padding of some sort. She is growing pregnancy boobs. If they are telling the truth about the pregnancy and she is really somewhere between 12 and 16 weeks, she is going to be a barrel.

by Anonymousreply 195November 19, 2018 8:29 PM

R193 I did too. I didn’t really care for the dress, but the veil and tiara were stunning. It was clear that those were supposed to be the focus. Also, it’s a royal wedding. It’s the exact place to be over the top. Let us not forget Diana’s veil, for Christ sake, or Beatrice’s hat at Kate’s wedding. The royal family is inherently pompous. That is literally their job.

by Anonymousreply 196November 19, 2018 8:30 PM

r195 she's supposed to be nearly 20 weeks. That bump is still on the smallish side, although as you said she's getting thicker.

by Anonymousreply 197November 19, 2018 8:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 198November 19, 2018 8:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 199November 19, 2018 8:37 PM

Wearing that ridiculous veil was just typical for some irrelevant divorced attention-whoring z-list 'actress' who wanted to be Disney princess instead of choosing something classy, something appropiate according to her position.

And of course she copied Diana with wearing that veil.

Btw, Diana's dress and veil looked just horrible. Tacky. Over the top.

by Anonymousreply 201November 19, 2018 8:40 PM

R200, that must be a purely academic question since we all know she seems not that much familiar with clothing herself appropiately according to the season.

Let's not forget, she felt the need to wear handgloves at Louis' christening.

And a maternity coat at Eugenie's wedding.

The poor thing truly struggles with the gruesome English weather! :-(

by Anonymousreply 202November 19, 2018 8:43 PM

R201 Appropiate for her position? She married the son of a future King... the people want a big wedding... if she went understated people would be complaining how it was a boring fashion statement and how she doesn’t understand what a spectacle royal weddings are

by Anonymousreply 203November 19, 2018 8:47 PM

R203, Meghan should have consulted Eugenie who nailed modern bridal attire flawlessly.

by Anonymousreply 204November 19, 2018 8:50 PM

Deal with it: Most of the people didn't care about that wedding, Harry being the son of a future king or not.

And deal with it: People here in the UK were not thrilled with a divorcee wearing a veil, let alone THIS veil.

by Anonymousreply 205November 19, 2018 8:52 PM

R204 I’m sure she would have loved the advice of the fraus who wished they married Prince Harry on here. She could have gotten married in a converted shed out back, wearing a David’s Bridal Original, holding carnations, with LeAnn Rimes playing in the background

by Anonymousreply 218November 19, 2018 9:58 PM

It was the '80s. You would have had to have been there. At the time Diana's wedding dress was very well received and considered a beautiful fairy tale gown.

by Anonymousreply 219November 19, 2018 9:58 PM

That's because at first, Diana wasn't really dressing herself. She was being dressed by her minders. She wasn't even allowed to wear heels at first because then she'd be taller than Charles. In a few more years, though, she'd tell them all to fuck off and start doing her own thing. FYI, her wedding gown was also dictated to her.

by Anonymousreply 220November 19, 2018 10:02 PM

Not according to the media at the time r219, there was a lot of talk of crumpled mess and ridiculously overblown.

Anyway, Merch’s veil - doesn’t matter if it was in itself attractive or not, the fact she wore one was trashy. A divorceé is not expected to dress like a teenage virgin. Even the queen was taken aback at her wearing one.

by Anonymousreply 221November 19, 2018 10:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 222November 19, 2018 10:04 PM

R220 her wedding no dress was not “dictated” to her for fucks sake - she chose the designers herself, chose the fabric, chose the design. She liked their work and chose them to make the dress.

by Anonymousreply 225November 19, 2018 10:06 PM

Who is this mysterious “they”? She chose her own clown clothes. She’d been wearing shit like that long before. The frilly collars were fashionable then.

Virginity is a social construct. This is not Mary England. I’d reckon most brides who wear veils now a days weren’t virgins on their wedding day, some of who were probably married before, and I’m sure there are other royals who werent virgins when they married either.

by Anonymousreply 228November 19, 2018 10:08 PM

R225 I also believe that Diana said she wanted to have the longest veil in history, so it sounds like she did have some choices

by Anonymousreply 229November 19, 2018 10:10 PM

Okay, okay. My bad. This sort of discussion is not my usual forte. It was Jackie O who's dress was dictated to her, and I was mistaken.

by Anonymousreply 230November 19, 2018 10:13 PM

Even the designers were horrified at how crushed it was when it came out of the coach, they admitted later they were young and inexperienced. I think Fergie’s dress was a way more flattering silhouette. Also, Diana’s hair looked dirty.

by Anonymousreply 231November 19, 2018 10:13 PM

"Horrified"?

by Anonymousreply 232November 19, 2018 10:24 PM

Does it really matter if a divorcee wears a veil nowadays? Lots of wedding traditions survive even as the significance changes with time. Brides still do the "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" thing, even though I'm pretty sure no one actually believes that borrowing another woman's underwear will confuse evil spirits and stop them from cursing your womb.

by Anonymousreply 233November 19, 2018 10:27 PM

It's fair to say the early 80s wasn't fashion's most memorable era.

by Anonymousreply 234November 19, 2018 10:28 PM

You must not be familiar with Church of England holy sacraments R233; so yes, for a religious woman like HM it is a big deal. Had Meghan worn that long-ass veil walking down the steps in the gardens of say Windsor, there wouldn't have been as much of the royal side eye as an irreverent symbol.

by Anonymousreply 235November 19, 2018 10:40 PM

One of the most beautiful outfits the Queen has ever worn.

For Princess Margaret's wedding, Norman Hartnell dressed the bride, and dressed her sister. Moving away from the elaborate embroidery that often adorned Hartnell’s formal dresses for The Queen, the dress is turquoise blue silk taffeta and silk tulle with lace on the top and down the back. Lace also adorns the matching bolero jacket. The hat was topped by roses as a nod to Princess Margaret Rose. The color was a favorite of Margaret's as well.

This was also one of the last British royal weddings - if not the last - where the women wore floor-length formal day dresses.

by Anonymousreply 240November 19, 2018 11:19 PM

Sarcasm is a poor substitute for ignorance. A click of the button shows R237 and R240 is the same 14 year old poster from R209 who said and I quote: "I literally could care less about Meghan and Harry, but the people who hate them for no good reason and fly into hysterics over TENDRILS makes me root for them."

Oh honey, the correct usage is "I COULDN'T care less..." What you wrote implies you do care dummy, a lot.

by Anonymousreply 241November 19, 2018 11:35 PM

R241 You are in hysterics because someone disagreed with your wishful thinking and pointed out that you don’t know the innermost thoughts of the royal family. You proved my point. I’m sure the tendrils thread could use another 5 paragraph analysis on how much Harry hates Meghan and what will happen to the baby once they get divorced.

It took a few years before Diana became a fashion plate. In the beginning she was just as awful as the rest of the Wndsorsi when it came to her wardrobe.

by Anonymousreply 243November 19, 2018 11:48 PM

Oooh, somebody's nerve get a wee bit touched? Just because some of us enjoy gossip and bitchery and biting commentary upon the perfumed privileged set does not make Meghan nor Harry exempt. Speaking of the anointed ones, who is familiar with St. James wherein they might possibly be appointed should NottCott prove too bijou for the Sussex clan?

by Anonymousreply 244November 19, 2018 11:55 PM

Yes, you had to live through the 80s to understand that Diana's gown was the height of fashion, preceded by the trendsetting black off the shoulder ball gown she wore to the opera benefit. She eclipsed Princess Grace who was also there. Shy Di showed an impressive decolletage.

by Anonymousreply 245November 20, 2018 1:17 AM

I liked Fergie's dress better, but Di's inspired a million knock offs. There were copies of that dress all over weddings and proms for a couple of years. Being copied a lot is what makes a fashion icon. A lot women brought pictures of Di to the hair stylist as well. I don't think any of the current crowd have had or will have that kind of impact.

Diana, especially in her later years was perfection. That pearl-embroidered outfit she donated to her charity auction was a true Princess fairytale. I've never seen anything close since.

by Anonymousreply 249November 20, 2018 6:09 AM

What the late Princess of Wales had that her daughters-in-law sorely lack are height (she was 1.78 cm) and a studied understanding of what dazzled. Even the most casual trousers and jacket looked elegant and sophisticated. Kate and Megs look off and frumpy in comparison.

Standing just outside the formal entrance to Highclere Castle, Queen Mary adeptly displays a mixture of both bewilderment and indignation while looking down at the antique Louis XV gold clock which inconveniently fell from underneath her dress and between her thighs. She had almost made it to her waiting car. Queen Mary: "WHO THE HELL THREW THIS CLOCK AT ME?!!"

R271 - yes, because it was a middle class Middleton plot to get their hands on the throne. Will loving Kate had nothing to do with it.

by Anonymousreply 272November 20, 2018 5:31 PM

Will loved and still loves Kate, but he did break up with her briefly back in 2007 due to cold feet and general boredom. It had nothing to do with the Middleton's background, he would have never dated her for so long if that had a negative impact.

Many of his aristo-poshie friends also have working or middle class folk in their background. Hell Chelsy Davy's mother was a middle-class pin-up model. The Bonas family (of Cressida fame) were butches and grocers a few generations ago.

by Anonymousreply 282November 20, 2018 8:00 PM

r282 Kate would never had dumped William under any circumstances, esp not after seven years. He is the one who was getting cold feet in the face of mounting pressure for him to propose to her. He split off; it didn't last more than a few weeks as he came to his senses pretty quickly and they reunited in short course.

There were stories in the press at that time that Williams closest pals, like Guy Pelly, were supportive of Kate and in her court. They allegedly told her to hang in and wait a while, that William would sort himself out in due course and return. Which he did.

by Anonymousreply 291November 20, 2018 10:13 PM

It might be she plans to return to acting, and there are better acting jobs outside the UK.

It’s not like the old days, where Princess Grace had to revoke her career upon marriage.

by Anonymousreply 292November 20, 2018 10:17 PM

Wasn't there plenty of chatter after the wedding that the Queen was going to gift them a manor of their own, specifically Adelaide Cottage? Now it's as if that story was never reported. Supposedly they are renting a converted cow shed from Soho House in Oxfordshire on an estate shared with other celebrities like the Beckhams. Maybe HM feels like NottCott is plenty until the marriage proves it can go the distance much like she did with the Cambridges?

by Anonymousreply 293November 20, 2018 10:20 PM

It sounds like the 21 room apartment was offered to them but they turned it down, so my theory is they might be the type to travel a lot, Brangelina style.

by Anonymousreply 295November 20, 2018 10:22 PM

I don't know, she's getting him away from his family - sounds like what a narcissist would do. Get them away from their other support system so you can twist their worldview to your way of thinking.

by Anonymousreply 296November 20, 2018 10:29 PM

I wouldn’t bet on that r295, the occupants don’t want to move and I really doubt HM would evict them. Sounds like they would prefer to live their louche lives in the secrecy of Soho Farmhouse, KP would not allow that sort of privacy.

by Anonymousreply 297November 20, 2018 10:32 PM

I never believed the Adelaide Cottage story because it's *tiny*. Only two or three small rooms.

by Anonymousreply 298November 20, 2018 10:44 PM

The cottage at KP has one bathroom and no air conditioning. I was shocked when I read that.

by Anonymousreply 299November 20, 2018 11:03 PM

Well, what happened to the story that they were to get York Cottage on the Sandringham estate? That's the story I remember from around the time they married.

by Anonymousreply 300November 20, 2018 11:13 PM

More PR from Sparkle.

"We didn't want that glorious apartment that my husband has been wanting for years, no, no , we want a converted cow shed somewhere away from all the pesky photgraphers (did you get the shot you needed??) One that we have to pay some of my husband's money for."

There is no way they are getting the large apartment 1 at KP.

They did not reject it. It was never offered.

There were lots of stories about it, but nothing definite.

And if you look at the calendar of events for the Royal Family, you will see lots of events for the Duke of Gloucester, a long time working royal.

After the debacle Harry and Sparkle made of the Down Under tour - why should they be rewarded by that prime apartment?

Once ensconced in Apartment 1, you'd never get Sparkle out of there.

by Anonymousreply 301November 20, 2018 11:26 PM

I don’t think their tour went wrong, or at least I haven’t read anything from a non-biased reporter saying otherwise. They had the security mishap and the tag mishap but other than that, people seemed thrilled to see them. Like him or not, Harry is one of the more popular royals, maybe more popular than his brother. I certainly don’t think the Queen would take it away because of that. Maybe the Sussexes didn’t want to create a riff with the current occupants?

by Anonymousreply 302November 20, 2018 11:32 PM

R289 - Yes, and neither did Kate and William, but K&W have less choice in the matter. They were told that with things moving faster behind the scenes, they had to make London their base. Kate was raised in Bucklebury, that's what she would have liked until they were older. Meghan is no country girl: you're looking at L.A. to Toronto to London in straight lines. This girl wants to be where the buzz is. But the annoyance of the family began before the wedding with Tiara Gate and then her maternity coat stunt at Andrew's daughter's wedding.

If anyone supposed Meghan wasn't hoping for Apt 1, they're fools. If anyone thinks she wasn't hoping for HRHs for her children, they're fools. This girl is a limelight hungry narcissist obsessed with status; a nice little country estate with no paps and no luxury shops and nobody giving a tinker's curse what she's doing that day isn't her style. Never has been.

She and Harry are getting in front of stories so they don't look diminished when the decisions are made public: no HRHs for your kids, no Apt 1 (I'm sure Charles will find someplace suitable for the Sussexes).

If there is one thing Meghan Markle has never, ever at any time in her existence been interested in, it's an "ordinary life".

The tour went wrong on several fronts, not the least of which was reports of Meghan's abusive attitude toward staff that was sent back to the Queen. Her inappropriate and often incredibly expensive clothing, and the fact that she used her pregnancy to deflect attention from the very causes they were there to support.

by Anonymousreply 303November 20, 2018 11:42 PM

The tour went fantastically. The public knew she was pregnant and that she was giving it her all.

They are a beloved couple.

by Anonymousreply 304November 20, 2018 11:44 PM

R249 - Yes, Diana blows both Kate and Meghan out of the water in terms of beauty, charisma, and style.

Didn't work out so well for her, though, did it? Too much of a good thing, if you arsk me.

by Anonymousreply 305November 20, 2018 11:46 PM

Could be that in a few more years HM Queen will be buried in St Georges, Charles & Camilla will be off to the newly renovated Buckingham Palace and William & Kate will be installed in Clarence House, leaving 1a Kensington Palace empty for Harry & Meghan. They don't need to make long term plans for them.

by Anonymousreply 306November 20, 2018 11:47 PM

R304 - Did you take a survey?

Meghan currently ranks 6th behind William, Kate, the Queen, and her husband in YouGov's poll.

Who are they beloved of? The working class in Sunderland? The London luvvies? The middle-class in Brighton? Where'd you get your info?

The fraus on Celebitchy keep twittering about how maybe HazBean will go to "Clarence House" an idea so moronic it beggars description. CH is where Kate and William go next when HM is raptured and C&C move up to Buck House (IF Charles agrees to leave). At that point, the Sussexes may finally get into KP Apt 1A at last.

by Anonymousreply 307November 20, 2018 11:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 308November 20, 2018 11:55 PM

It was suggested on another board that one of the reasons H & M are staying put in the tiny Not Cot is her tax status in the U.S. - as a US citizen abroad she's required to detail any free rent she might receive. Spec was she's likely paying a nominal "market value" rent for tiny Not Cot so as to avoid having to detail the much larger potential rent difference on Apt 1A, to the IRS. She'd have to pay tax on this difference.

by Anonymousreply 315November 21, 2018 1:33 AM

by Anonymousreply 316November 21, 2018 1:45 AM

by Anonymousreply 317November 21, 2018 1:46 AM

Let's talk about the men's formal outfits. So what are all those medals and sash for. Do they have to wear that military costume

by Anonymousreply 318November 21, 2018 2:00 AM

I don't think any of the residences in Kensington Palace go for a "nominal rent" any more.

The residences, whether cottage or apartment, are legally required to be rented for "fair market value".

The Queen does pay the rent for some of the residents, but the rents are not nominal.

by Anonymousreply 319November 21, 2018 2:01 AM

The blue sash worn by some of the British royals is the Order of the Garter. The Queen, Prince Philip, all four of their children, Prince William, the Dukes of Gloucester and Kent, and possibly Princess Alexandra (?) all have this order. I believe Prince Michael, and perhaps the Duchesses of Kent and Gloucester may have it as well (too lazy to look up). It is assumed Charles will award it to Camilla and Harry once he's King.

Someone else can detail the medals and their meaning.

by Anonymousreply 320November 21, 2018 2:04 AM

r319 the term "fair market rent" is open to wide interpretation though. Do you really believe that Prince and Princess Michael are paying "fair market" for their largish KP apartment, at today's prices in that part of London? with what income? Granted Prince Michael does work part time as a working royal, but that still doesn't cover it.

There's a lot of fudging and subsidizing going on there.

by Anonymousreply 321November 21, 2018 2:06 AM

The tax issue is no issue. Harry is not even a U.S. citizen. Married, filing separately takes care of any issues. Nothing to see here, folks.

by Anonymousreply 322November 21, 2018 2:18 AM

But even if married and filing separately she'd still have to declare any gifted rent she receives. It's considered a form of income. What that filing status does mean is Harry's income and assets won't be reportable.

by Anonymousreply 323November 21, 2018 2:39 AM

I'm going to make a suggestion here, since it appears refugees from the thread-whose-name-we-dare-not-speak have made their way over here to this one, and may soon begin to dominate.

I'd wait for a few days and let things cool down, then start a new MM thread, perhaps under a different title than the one that was used prior. The OP of that new thread needs to put a huge disclaimer at the top of the 1st post that there should be NO RACIAL talk whatsoever, since one can see that's what got the threads closed up (but not deleted one should note, which usually signifies a lesser time-out or punishment).

The threads were crazy, but generally harmless celeb-related mockery and fun, up until that last one. Getting into racist or racial discussions re anyone is a surefire way to get canned round here, rightfully so.

I hope the posters from there who are reading this take my advice. Back to the UK royal talk.

R326 The funniest thread I’ve read in weeks. Do they really believe MM is paying people to delete their threads?! They really believe they are “under attack!”

Here’s William at an event yesterday, I believe. He’s talking about mental health.

What the hell happened to shutter Tendrils? I gave up on it a couple days ago when Tumblr and other rubbish were being passionately argued as gospel (but the BBC and the Guardian were apparently all lies in the pocket of Prince Charles... I expect the Guardian in particular would come as news to him but never mind.) However it hadn't gotten racist in a concerning way, which is to say criticism was being equated with racism but hadn't seen any actual incidents of it. What went down?

by Anonymousreply 328November 21, 2018 3:30 AM

There was racial talk, r328, that was enough for the web-bies to can it. That's the current era we're in. There was no need for that type of discussion. Those threads were about silliness, fashion, gossip and general royalty-celebrity mockery. Once it got derailed into other controversial arguments it was kaput-ville. Trust me on that.

The whole thing got so moronic I don't mourn it at all... just curious as to what toppled it. Meagain Markle is a deplorable, ignorant, damaging addition to the institution. Her race is and always was irrelevant.

by Anonymousreply 331November 21, 2018 3:52 AM

Apologies r330 we are ot, if that's what you're pointing out. I'm r324 and don't want to see this thread derailed either. I'll go back to UK royal talk and put the other discussion at the other thread:

Oh for Christ's sake don't mind the damned thread. The less you draw attention to what you don't like the more likely it is it will drift back to some place that doesn't make you fret. Fuck you're annoying.

by Anonymousreply 333November 21, 2018 3:55 AM

I highly doubt the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will raise their kids outside of England. But i see the Meghan haters have latched onto the lie to continue to vilify her.Its sad,you all are mentally disturbed.

by Anonymousreply 334November 21, 2018 4:02 AM

Oh for fucks sakes, rather than descend into shrill tactics just don't respond R334 and block the "haters" you shriek about. --Poof, easy!-- Instead you'd rather degenerate the discussion into some frau bitch fight. Just SHUT THE FUCK UP about it already. It will diminish whatever attention you are whinging on is soooooo unfair to the poor woman.

by Anonymousreply 335November 21, 2018 4:11 AM

R334 They will definitely raise their kids in England, but the post upthread states that they are thinking about raising their children outside of London. Anyone who states they are moving out of the country because of xyz is pure speculation with no basis in the truth at this point.

by Anonymousreply 336November 21, 2018 4:18 AM

In case anyone is interested in the sashes, as someone above was:

Royal blue- The Order of The Garter

Dark green- The Order of The Thistle

Red- The Order of The Bath

Blue with white and red trim- The Royal Victorian Order

Black- The Order of St John of Jerusalem

Red with white trim- The Order of The British Empire

Dark blue and red- The Order of St Michael and St George

Then there is the little ivory portrait of The Queen worn by ladies, this is The Queen’s personal order if it’s yellow ribbon. If it’s pink it’s her father George VI (only The Queen and Princess Alexandra have this now) and if it’s pale blue it’s George V, of which Queen Elizabeth is the last surviving recipient.

by Anonymousreply 337November 21, 2018 4:21 AM

Do people have more than one order (besides the queen)? How would they know which one to wear?

by Anonymousreply 338November 21, 2018 5:27 AM

Thanks for sharing, R337.

by Anonymousreply 339November 21, 2018 5:27 AM

R337 Very informative, thank you!

by Anonymousreply 340November 21, 2018 5:37 AM

Queens here also use a hanky panky color code. Like dark blue for fucking, light blue for oral. Does the queen of England decree a symbolism of sashes worn from left or from right like our queens do to denote fucker and fuckee, sucker and suckee, and so on?

by Anonymousreply 344November 21, 2018 11:23 AM

Not sure why the tendrils thread was closed. There "very bad people on both sides".

Hopefully their negative energy won't spill into this thread. And I hope to God I never have to see the word "sugars" in this thread.

by Anonymousreply 345November 21, 2018 1:10 PM

Well, I was going to comment on THE OTHER THREAD about Duchess Meghan’s appearance at the kitchen.

The jewel-toned dress was a great color for her, and the outfit itself wasn’t half bad. She does look great in strong saturated colors. She should explore those more. As usual, the fabric looked cheap. But the style was cute on her, and appropriate. Maybe she didn’t want to offend the Muslim women by exposing her underthings and bare arms. It was a pretty good outfit.

The incessant “bump” cradling is insane.

If there is a new MM thread, please let us know. I promise to behave.

by Anonymousreply 346November 21, 2018 1:37 PM

Duchess of Cambridge looked tired this morning. Like she wants a vacation,an is just being nice to the crowds because its a polite thing to do. The smile is losing some of its luster.

R350, I think Meghan’s look was pretty good. R349, Kate looks impeccable as always, but yes, a little tired.

by Anonymousreply 351November 21, 2018 2:58 PM

r350

surprisingly modest this time. hmmm

by Anonymousreply 352November 21, 2018 2:58 PM

R352, I wondered above if her more modest look was in deference to the religious women at the event. If so, that’s something.

by Anonymousreply 353November 21, 2018 3:01 PM

R322 - I think that's a common misconception. I'm not a tax solicitor, but as I understand it, the issue is quite a bit more complicated. For example, any gifts she receives from Harry's income which is held in a foreign trust has to be reported and counted. She has to report any foreign entities holding any of her assets. She basically has to report what the British monarchy is giving her. They have known from the beginning that she is going to face tax issues due to her marriage, and according to the news reports, at least some of his income does come into play. If that weren't the case, all American married couples could hide half their income from dual taxation by simply marrying a Brit and moving here.

by Anonymousreply 354November 21, 2018 3:04 PM

R347 - oh, please, go back and play with the fraus on Celebitchy, will you?

by Anonymousreply 355November 21, 2018 3:06 PM

Kate looks tired because she’s pregnant again, you heard it here first.

by Anonymousreply 356November 21, 2018 3:10 PM

r353

yeah i saw that. well... maybe? but it's a pity, if true - it means whenever she's not surrounded by muslim women (=most of the time), she won't be repeating this modest, neat look. it'd be nice if she always looked like this but alas...

by Anonymousreply 357November 21, 2018 3:17 PM

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 363November 21, 2018 3:27 PM

R358 - The only vibe she's giving out is a 36 year old woman with three children under five who is now under more pressure to take on more work in the public eye. If she were making a first trimester announcement at Christmas, she would have be sick as a dog right now with her accustomed morning sickness instead of stepping up her public schedule, and would have fallen pregnant in late summer: four months after giving birth to an 8.5lb. baby, barely done nursing.

Instead, she's flat as a board, her waist is about as big around as a doughnut, and her schedule has increased rather than decreased, and she quite clearly hasn't any morning sickness at all or she'd be home in bed as she was with the last three.

Why do you all want Kate to be pregnant so badly?! And when it turns out she isn't, are you going to turn in your OB-GYN licences?

by Anonymousreply 373November 21, 2018 3:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 375November 21, 2018 3:44 PM

I think Megs is supporting her bump pad because it’s slipping down and she’s afraid she’s going to look like she has a gunt. I’d consider that another wardrobe malfunction if the simple pad that all actresses wear for pregnancy scenes can’t stay in place.

by Anonymousreply 376November 21, 2018 3:45 PM

Nah, dont think the Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant. I mean if she is she would need to have the constitution of an ox and a queen-like appetite for William's peen. But if she is, more power to her. I love this colour on her and Meghan.

by Anonymousreply 377November 21, 2018 3:47 PM

R373 - So, showing off your legs has an age limitation?

Dear me. Who knew?

That's exactly the point: she looks trim and terrific for a 37 year old mum of three, the last born barely seven months ago.

I know it's sad that Meghan has the legs of chicken, but that doesn't mean that Kate has to hide hers to comfort you.

by Anonymousreply 385November 21, 2018 3:55 PM

Meghan's legs are fine

by Anonymousreply 386November 21, 2018 3:57 PM

Just because someone criticizes Kate for something doesn’t mean they are pro Meghan, come on guys.

by Anonymousreply 387November 21, 2018 3:58 PM

They both looked nice today. Love the color on both.

Criticisms: Meghan’s earrings are atrocious. Like industrial staples. And the ring is junk, too. But *sigh* a girl’s gotta merch! Her stick ankles were swimming in those ankle booties. Maybe the later stages of pregnancy will fill out her legs a bit.

by Anonymousreply 388November 21, 2018 4:05 PM

R373 Kate should wear short skirts, (on non-windy days and away from helicopters). She has great legs. She is done with kids or between babies and she looks fabulous. After years of media abuse everybody loves Kate now. I say she should bask in it. There will be plenty of time for granny length skirts when she's a granny. R385 Not every comment about Kate is also about Meghan but since you brought it up, If you hate Meghan's legs, avert your gaze. Chicken legs are on display today. At least the colour palate is flattering and season-appropriate. Plus, those boots are cute as hell. I'll give her a point this time.

by Anonymousreply 389November 21, 2018 4:08 PM

by Anonymousreply 391November 21, 2018 4:20 PM

R60 So the question I have is does Beatrix now have to curtsey to kings and queens? Does she still received curtseys?

I think this is one of the reasons the British give up the throne when they go in the ground. Ex kings and queens make for complicated precedence.

by Anonymousreply 392November 21, 2018 4:22 PM

R380 And he wears terrible underwear to highlight size of said peen

by Anonymousreply 393November 21, 2018 4:28 PM

The only time I’ve ever seen Ferhie nail an outfit was Harry and Meghan’s wedding. She looked fantastic there.

by Anonymousreply 394November 21, 2018 4:29 PM

R392, former sovereigns are usually afforded the same courtesy and precedence as if they were still reigning. King Constantine of Greece, Tsar Simeon of Bulgaria, The Empress Farah of Iran are some current examples. In Beatrix’s case though, she elected to go back to her original HRH title. I suspect that the traditional courtesy to former sovereigns does not apply to her now, at her own pleasure probably. But, I don’t think I’ve seen it in practice, so I’d have to defer to any poster who knows for sure how she operates in the presence of another sovereign besides her son.

by Anonymousreply 395November 21, 2018 4:38 PM

I agree R394. Too bad the bride couldn't, that dress was a bit of a disaster; and that stupid veil ruined the bride's hair and made her makeup look sweaty. A damn shame because you could see the vision for the gown. If execution had succeeded, the result might have been quite lovely.

by Anonymousreply 396November 21, 2018 4:39 PM

The makeup in r360 though.

by Anonymousreply 397November 21, 2018 4:47 PM

I have a question about curtsey etiquette. We saw the photo last summer of Princess Anne doing the deep knee bend to the queen of Spain and in doing so, she was clutching Letizia's arm. Which, I dunno, touching a sovereign. I completely understand that it's really hard to get up from a lunge like that after a certain age. Recently I saw a photo of Mary of Denmark doing the exact same thing. I forget who she was curtseying to, could've been her MIL, but again, clutching the forearm.

I've seen deep curtseys in movies and everyone seems to bob up easily enough. Heck, one of the best scenes in season 1 of The Crown was Queen Mary in full mourning, curtseying to the new queen, with that death glare. (Love Eileen Atkins and she's no spring chicken, she managed that knee bend like a champ)

So is it permissible to latch onto the bow-ee?

by Anonymousreply 401November 21, 2018 5:28 PM

R401 My random guess is that it's a show of solidarity and a way to tackle the stories that Kate and Meghan are in warring camps. It's looks like a royal version of having them on message.

by Anonymousreply 402November 21, 2018 5:31 PM

R402 - my guess is that it random and coincidental.

by Anonymousreply 403November 21, 2018 5:33 PM

R399 Wow. Highly unfortunate, and in my opinion really fucking stupid. The last DT threads were either closed early or in the last case deleted entirely. This is a sign. I never question how Muriel works, and the message seems loud and clear. I felt it stopped being fun a while ago with the influx of loons and a vicious tone that was not the fun DL kind of vicious. That said, if it keeps the crazies from migrating over here, I guess that's a good thing.

As I mentioned on another thread, as SSAA intern 3, I am happily picking out my retirement caftans and earrings online this morning, some great sales!

by Anonymousreply 413November 21, 2018 6:08 PM

another great thing about her kitchen visit look was the lack of that cum-stained-lip. very nice shade of lipstick there - a bit of color without being 'too much'. still natural-looking and all that. i don't agree with how she's treated her father and the company she used to keep (anderson, mulroney) is vomit-inducing but if only she could keep up with this improved look... oh well, baby steps

by Anonymousreply 414November 21, 2018 9:27 PM

[quote]Which, I dunno, touching a sovereign.

Lucrezia isn't a sovereign. She is a queen by virtue of being the wife of a king. He isn't a crowned king, by the way. He was proclaimed.

by Anonymousreply 417November 21, 2018 10:53 PM

I doubt it too. I think they threw her a bone for Harry because her being excluded from William’s wedding was such bad optics. It shouldn’t have been bad optics of course, but Sarah turned it into a big deal in interviews afterwards. She could have been triumphant at Eugenie’s wedding, but instead she was curiously on the sidelines while Andrew did most of the heavy lifting. Was she drunk or stoned? Did the courtiers tell her she needed to back off and. Or make herself the focus? We’ll probably never know. Sarah is an open book about some things and maddeningly silent on others, which makes me think she’s gagged from saying certain things.

by Anonymousreply 418November 21, 2018 10:55 PM

I was watching footage of Me! cooking with those women, I noticed she is starting to slowly fake a British accent. She asks one lady “so what other projects are you working on?” and she pronounced it “proe-jex” not “PRAH-jects” as we’d say here in the US. Hmm.

by Anonymousreply 425November 21, 2018 11:58 PM

Wouldn't the East Coast US pronunciation be "PROW-jects" rather than “PRAH-jects. I think her accent is likely to end up Mid-Atlantic in any case, she only sounds British (Estuary, like William and Harry) if you are from the US.

by Anonymousreply 426November 22, 2018 12:28 AM

I’m an accentless bitch from Connecticut, and pronounce it “PRAH-jects”.

by Anonymousreply 427November 22, 2018 12:31 AM

by Anonymousreply 428November 22, 2018 12:35 AM

Oh that’s true, she did spend a few years in Toronto. Forgot about that.

by Anonymousreply 429November 22, 2018 1:10 AM

Code switching is normal and organic, I really don't think this is deliberate on MMs part, though I am careful to put much past her. Kate decided at some point to use a very outdated cut glass accent that was jarring. Much derision was placed at the time as everyone truly "royal", including HM, had dialed theirs down long ago. Not being bitchy about Kate, I think sometimes Carole went too far in mentoring her for the part. If you hear clips of Pippa, her accent is far more natural. I have not heard Kate speak recently, so perhaps she has changed. I must say since Louis was born she has a confidence about her I never thought would happen. Well done Kate. I hope it sticks and I hope she continues to step up her engagement duties as she must. No room now for being "work shy"

ABC will be airing an hour long special on the Duchess of Sussex entitled "Meghan's New Life" at 9pm Eastern on Thanksgiving night. Who will be watching?

by Anonymousreply 442November 22, 2018 3:20 AM

For that special, what will they use to fill the hour? Christ, it's only been 6 months since the last special. She got knocked up and went on tour. They'll probably talk up the cookbook. They have no one they can interview, though, except for gossip columnists, and they probably won't provide the content that the special's producers are seeking.

by Anonymousreply 443November 22, 2018 3:42 AM

It’ll be probably be about how the marriage influenced pop culture

by Anonymousreply 444November 22, 2018 3:47 AM

Will Pa and Sam be on?

by Anonymousreply 445November 22, 2018 4:55 AM

[R445].......doubtful,why would The Duchess of Sussex include people who have damned her since day 1?

You haters are going to have to stick to the tabloids for updates on those non-starters

by Anonymousreply 446November 22, 2018 6:02 AM

R392 The Dutch court under Queen Juliana did away with the curtsy. Queen Beatrix (as she was) was apparently much more formal than her mother Juliana however she didn’t reinstate it. You will still see other royals curtsy and bow to King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima but that will only be those from countries where curtsying is still practised (e.g. the Danes and British).

by Anonymousreply 447November 22, 2018 6:15 AM

I remember reading that about Beatrix too. That Juliana had phased out ladies in waiting and insisted on being called simply ‘Madam’ and when Beatrix took the throne it went back to the old ways with Hofdames and “Majesty”

by Anonymousreply 450November 22, 2018 3:59 PM

Juliana was kind of insane though.

[quote]R293 Wasn't there plenty of chatter after the wedding that the Queen was going to gift them a manor of their own...Supposedly they are renting a converted cow shed from Soho House in Oxfordshire on an estate shared with other celebrities like the Beckhams.

Doesn’t that sound like A LOT more fun than being cooped up with a bunch of fusty old royals and their brats?

Meghan probably informed the queen and the rest of the palace staff that’s where she wanted to live.

by Anonymousreply 467November 23, 2018 6:00 PM

R460 I don't understand why there continues to be articles about why the Queen won't abdicate. All one has to do is think logically for a second. If the Queen had wanted to abdicate to enjoy a [well deserved] retirement why would she wait until her 90s to do so? It would be like a marathon runner deciding to rest a meter from the finish line. Her reign will end when she drops dead from extreme old age but she will continue to hand over more and more of the public engagements to Charles.

by Anonymousreply 468November 23, 2018 6:15 PM

R468 The Daily Mail writes article because they attract attention not because they add new information. Each DM reporter has to write 10 to 12 articles per day so they fill up with fluff.

Please someone send Prince William some proper undergarments, iam too old for this.

by Anonymousreply 470November 23, 2018 7:52 PM

I kind of hope they don’t choose a traditional name. Royal names get boring after being used for the millionth time

by Anonymousreply 471November 23, 2018 8:05 PM

Diana Doria

by Anonymousreply 472November 23, 2018 8:06 PM

Tbf, why should they pick a traditional name (one that is highly traditional in the BRF, that is)? Nobody will care for their spawn, dynastically speaking.

by Anonymousreply 473November 23, 2018 8:07 PM

Yes, nobody in the RF has eve had a non-traditional name...

Di-ori-ana?!? Or does that sound too much like the runs.

by Anonymousreply 477November 23, 2018 8:21 PM

All I'm saying is that they don't need to pick a dynastically relevant name like, say, Alice, Mary, Leopold, Albert etc

They can go for, say, Michael, Matthew, Christian, Eleanor and the like.

I guess they won't choose Thomas if it's a boy. LOL.

by Anonymousreply 485November 23, 2018 9:45 PM

by Anonymousreply 491November 23, 2018 11:36 PM

She is very thin, for one, R491, and William is said to be moody and given to fits of temper. That is stressful. Smoking will also age you.

by Anonymousreply 492November 23, 2018 11:38 PM

by Anonymousreply 493November 23, 2018 11:39 PM

R490 You know I had to look. Jenette seems to prefer her girls lower on the chest than I think is most flattering. However she always has a waist in all the images I found on Google. Camilla could learn a few lessons.

by Anonymousreply 495November 24, 2018 6:18 AM

Queen Elizabeth also wears her boobs too low, but Camilla REALLY needs a foundation garment intervention. There’s no reason she has to look like that, part of her charm is that she’s supposed to be a cackling fun country Gentry lady, the huge boobs hanging to your belly makes her look like a matronly old yenta from the schtetl.

by Anonymousreply 496November 24, 2018 6:24 AM

The Mail and the Sun are reporting Divide and Conquered will move into Frogmore Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle and not a big spread at Kensington Palace. This is down, in the only really interesting part of the story, to apparent tension between the brothers.

Frogmore Cottage is big but pretty dumpy at present, by anybody's standards.

The Mail, amusingly, litters it's story with pictures of Wallis Simpson.

by Anonymousreply 510November 24, 2018 4:54 PM

Charles has some good qualities, but he's an entitled ass. Who leaves a memo for someone to pick up a dropped letter next to his desk, when it would have been faster to do it himself?

by Anonymousreply 511November 24, 2018 5:15 PM

R508 , since Wolfie's parents were never married, it is inaccurate to say they are already divorced. Something is up with that arrangement; its suddenness, the openness of the engagement discussion, the fact that the families have known each other for so long. I don't believe looking at the prospective groom and his beautiful baby mama that he in any way could bear to wake up looking at the hideous Bea without something extremely troubling and lucrative under the surface.

by Anonymousreply 518November 24, 2018 7:59 PM

Wow Frogmore Cottage - it's a dump, literally. It needs a ton of work to be inhabitable, the Fail says it currently houses staff and is subdivided into flats. There's a ton of work inside and out to do, no way will this be ready by Spring for Babe Sussex.

It's also located directly under the Heathrow flight path - noisy! This wasn't some kind of nice 'gift' from the Queen; it's a deliberate move to get them out of London, under the watchful eyes at Windsor and scale them back to size quite a bit. And why announce it now, so early and months before it will be ready for move-in? Someone is sending a message here, not sure what but it's clear that's what is up.

by Anonymousreply 519November 24, 2018 10:37 PM

There is some good discussion going on over at the thread below about said dump. As I mentioned in that thread, HM and her courtiers are absolute champs at communicating in code, and this dump speaks volumes. That it's located on the same land where Wallis is buried is a particularly piquant touch

by Anonymousreply 524November 25, 2018 12:26 AM

All of Windsor Park, including the Castle, has to deal with noisy planes.

When staff live in the grander"Grace & Favor" housing, it's not maids and dishwashers. It's usually managerial types and senior staff.

by Anonymousreply 525November 25, 2018 8:04 AM

If H&M are spending most of their time in Cotswolds, it all makes sense: why would the Queen relocate the Gloucesters if the apartment was going to stand empty most of the time or why would she give the Sussexes a nicer country house if they were barely going to set foot in there.

by Anonymousreply 526November 25, 2018 8:47 AM

How far are BP, KP and Clarence House from each other?

by Anonymousreply 527November 25, 2018 12:00 PM

r526 Exactly. Her Majesty learned that the hard way with Will. The public spent a ton of cash renovating 1A for Will and then they moved out to the country for a few years to raise their kids. This time HM will give Harry a country place to start a family. He'll keep Not Cot as a London sleeping flat and then once their kids start school they'll get a better London abode.

by Anonymousreply 528November 25, 2018 12:05 PM

THe truth is the older people who currently occupy the KP place don't want to move. Period. And Harry and Meghan would look bad taking it since the news has leaked out that they really do not want to move. They're in their 70's for chrissakes! I'm curious as to who leaked out that they didn't want to leave KP. That's the booger in the works.

by Anonymousreply 529November 25, 2018 12:46 PM

R529 Word on the streets is it was princess pushy

by Anonymousreply 530November 25, 2018 12:49 PM

R529 I thought the current occupants wanted to downsize to a smaller unit within KP. Are there elegant smaller units available?

by Anonymousreply 531November 25, 2018 12:54 PM

This wouldn't have been an issue until recently - in generations gone by, the older members of the family would be gone by 80, which would free up their houses for the younger members.

by Anonymousreply 532November 25, 2018 12:57 PM

Apparently not, R531. They've been very clear in recent weeks that they want things as they are.

by Anonymousreply 533November 25, 2018 1:03 PM

Princess Pushy and the rest of the minor Kent’s and Gloucester better get used to the fact that once The Queen dies, their role will be substantially diminished. This is appropriate considering their age. And Charles does not need to keep his mother’s cousins in any comfort. The royal family will be Charles’s brood

by Anonymousreply 534November 25, 2018 1:34 PM

Are they getting any new place in London? They are going to need one - what if they have to spend the night between appointments? No way they can stay at NotCot -2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom with the baby and Doria living with them? On the other hand, if the Queen gave them something bigger, who’d guarantee Meghan wouldn't start renting it out for parties like Andrew?

by Anonymousreply 535November 25, 2018 2:25 PM

Maybe a few rooms at Buckingham Palace, like Andrew and Anne have.

by Anonymousreply 536November 25, 2018 2:29 PM

Yeah the minor royal cousins are scared because Prince Charles dosen't need them.So they are mounting PR atracks aimed at Kate,Meghan,Harry and William as they desperately try to prolong the inevitable. I do not understand why, after all these years the lot hasn't aquired housing elsewhere

Don't the Kents have a vacation home, can't they go live their? But i suspect when Lilibet passes, she might instruct Prince Charles to go easy. But he has Camilla in his ear......and she is a wicked shrew

by Anonymousreply 537November 25, 2018 2:35 PM

R537 - Supposedly, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent had to sell their country home to pay for their rent at Kensington Palace. They were living there practically rent free for years until a stink was raised and the Queen asked them to pay.

by Anonymousreply 538November 25, 2018 2:37 PM

R527, Buckingham Palace and Clarence House are close to one another. Less than a five minute walk along The Mall. Kensington Palace is in a different part of London (i.e., Kensington). It would take about 40 minutes to walk from Buckingham Palace to Kensington Palace, or a fifteen minute drive unless you get caught in awful traffic.

R515 - Seward has been making her living off the royals for decades - it's a testament to the stupidity of the human race that "Majesty" is still a going concern - internationally. For the most part, the magazine sticks to the treacly HELLO Magazine approach - gushing support for monarchy anywhere. But she does have to spice it up now and again with criticism, and that is saved for DL columns and quotes in other journo's columns. On any documentary about the royals lacking pretensions to "historical", like the sort you find on public television, Seward will be interviewed.

I think it likely that Seward has reliable sources "inside" at this point. The low wages paid by the BRF are legendary, and although staff are required to sign confidentiality clauses, the family know perfectly well that the monies available for leaks will always find their way into staff or ex-staff pockets. No one, so far, has ever been taken to court for violating the NDAs.

I think it's perfectly obvious by now that Meghan Markle is not Flavour of the Month inside the family, and that she altogether overplayed her hand, and that a retreat and careful revamping are in process - Sparkle is fortunate that the Christmas season (which is much longer in Europe than it is in America, by the way) and a full scale home move are occurring along with her second trimester. She can disappear for awhile with very good reasons, let the nasty PR dust settle, re-emerge all glowing and rotund at the Christmas service with Mum in tow, and start the New Year afresh.

It is instructive to note that everyone assumed Kate would be panting to catch up to Meghan's glamour and, er, higher vibe. Props to Kate for being shrewd enough to the family well enough, and the landscape well enough, to ignore Meghan's grandstanding and go on being her demure self, and sticking to the I Like This Boat Why Rock It? playbook.

It's Meghan who should have taken a leaf out of Kate's book. Perhaps the result of her petty spite at Yuge's wedding that antagonised the Yorks (the Tiara Gate leak), the Cambridge's displeasure being taken seriously by HM and being booted out of the capital with no Apt 1 in KP, and getting the old cottage that is just a loan from HM in a market town with very little in the way of, shall we say, amusement, will hammer home the message to Sparkle: she isn't there to reform the monarchy, and if she wants to go getting its perks, she should shut up and behave herself.

Charles has said that he wants to make Buck Palace just a working palace for functions like investitures, meeting world leaders, etc and that his city residence would be Clarence House. This is partially because Buck needs many millions for refurbishment, supposedly the electric and plumbing are not up to code.

F550 - The renovation/restoration/refitting of Buckingham Palace has been a huge project for many years now. What the fuck have they been doing all these years?

Interesting question, you mean what has the Privy Purse been doing with maintenance money all these years.

They’re said to not actually like Buckingham Palace, they consider Windsor their real home. But I get that it’s convienent if they need to be in London.

R552 - I know workers have been doing "something" in Buckingham Palace because the Queen and Prince Philip had to move out for months. What that "something" actually is I don't know for sure. Could be electric wiring, plumbing, carpentry, fixing leaking roof???

Kate/Meghan is the Queen Mum/Wallis Simpson redux. History repeats. I don't have a dog in this fight, but to be honest, I'm tired of Meghan's Women's Rights schtick. It must be grating on the nerves of the family as it's seemingly out of place not only with the general scheme of things, but the fact also being that the Head of State is a........WOMAN! The Prime Minister is a...........WOMAN! Shut up already, Megs.

by Anonymousreply 557November 25, 2018 4:44 PM

R557, you mean that Meghan was dating William? There is no comparison as Meghan never dated an heir.

With Catherine's FIL divorced and widowed, and her Step-MIL divorced with a living ex-spouse, your comparison to Catherine and Meghan is ridiculous.

Go starch some doilies.

If Harry and Meghan get millions to spend renovating Frogmore Cottage, no way will they be upgrading down the road. They would be stuck there, possibly forever, to justify the egregious costs.

by Anonymousreply 564November 25, 2018 5:26 PM

Is it fact that the 1.4M Pound renovation to the KP apartment currently in use by the DoK was done in anticipation of Harry and Meghan moving in at some point? That the DoK and wife will be moving out soon?

by Anonymousreply 565November 25, 2018 5:28 PM

I should think when William is king, HIS children will be getting Clarence House (George), the Kensington Palace flat (Charlotte or Louis) and Anmer Hall (probably George).

by Anonymousreply 566November 25, 2018 5:29 PM

[QUOTE] All this time i thought the Kents were wealthy,(i thought he had Romanov jewels stashed and sold them discreetly)

They still have some beautiful pieces though, Princess Michael has two absolutely gorgeous tiaras that belonged to Princess Marina, perhaps they were of Romanov origin from her own mother Princess Nicholas.

by Anonymousreply 569November 25, 2018 5:43 PM

Aye, it's always the sister-in-law who, refusing to ignore her senses, draws the irrevocable negative perception of the new interloper. Kate is doing her Royal duty as future Queen consort. Like Queen Mary, and the Queen Mum before her, she'll be one of the Monarchy's fiercest protectors. Meghan, they're on to you, girl. They're mobilizing against you, quietly moving things into place. They've already begun with the leaks. You're about to get "FERGIED!" They know your love for Harry is contingent upon having your own way. Whatever you want, you AIN'T gonna get! They had your number from jump. I remember in the interview when Harry said "I'm in love with this girl, and I THINK she loves me." I was once a supporter, but I'm revising my opinion. It has nothing to do with race. I think I can see her a bit more clearly now.

People trying to pit Kate and Meghan against each other are exhausting. This isn’t Dynasty, for Christ sake.

Also, if the Vanity Fair piece and other media is to be believed, it’s Charles and Harry who have a problem with William who feels overshadowed. The women seem fine.

by Anonymousreply 572November 25, 2018 6:07 PM

Run Sophie! Run far, far away! She looks much better and healthier than Angie in those photos, who looks absolutely unwell.

by Anonymousreply 573November 25, 2018 6:26 PM

One thing to keep in mind: the Gloucesters are much richer than the Kents. Two generations ago, each prince had an allocation from the state. Prince Henry, the first Duke of Gloucester, third son of George V, who lived a long life, continued to get this annual allocation until his death. Prince George, the first Duke of Kent, fourth son of George V, died young and his widow, Princess Marina, received no allocation. The Kents (Prince Edward, the 2nd Duke; Princess Alexandra; and Prince Michael) have been much less well off than their cousin , Prince Richard, the 2nd Duke of Gloucester, who was the only surviving son of the first duke, Prince Henry. This was discussed in the 1970s when they were considering an allowance for a putative widow of Prince Andrew...it was my first encounter with the word "putative." It all became moot when the system was changed such that only the monarch, consort, and heir receive a direct allocation, with the monarch funding the other relations.

by Anonymousreply 574November 25, 2018 6:44 PM

The Gloucester’s have some amazing jewels as . They inherited a lot from Princess Marie Louise of Schleswig Holstein, who died childless. Sadly these jewels will leave the family as the children will have no need for tiaras.

[R572] that Vanity Fair piece must have been dictated by Camilla.Painting Prince Charles that way.....oh poor misunderstood Prince,oh please

by Anonymousreply 577November 25, 2018 8:53 PM

Who here upthread is insinuating that the Gloucesters, of all people in the Royal Fam, are being stingy and are dictating the living arrangements at KP and therefore 'forcing' H & M out to Windsor? Please.

They have ALWAYS been at the service of the monarch and done everything asked of them, gracefully and with dignity. Birgitte Gloucester in particular is beloved, and is greatly respected by QEII and Charles. If they are being allowed to stay on at KP, and moved to smaller quarters later, that is explicitly at the Queen's demand, for whatever her reasons. If not the Queen, then Charles, who is now making decisions...neither the Duke nor Duchess would ever insist to anyone that they wanted to stay in Apt 1A, they know it's "Grace and favor" and what that entails.

Even Prince and Princess Michael, catty as both sometimes can be, are old-fashioned in every sense re their rank and place and how beholden they are to the Queen. They do as they're told.

This move out to Frogmore was either requested by H&M themselves for their family needs, or dictated by other factors. Perhaps its true William didn't want them next door, due to his privacy obsessions - ? Perhaps there are other plans afoot, to move out to the country now and back to London at a later date (they are leaving KP all together and will not be keeping Nott Cott). Either way it was NOT dictated by the living demands or needs of elder cousins, some of whom have long and dutifully served the monarch. Don't believe the tabloid hype.

by Anonymousreply 578November 25, 2018 10:36 PM

R578, you are correct! This new cottage has been announced as AN official residence of the couple, because it is a part of Windsor and part of the Crown Estate. Therefore it is official. They will likely have other official residences in the future, as well as private ones. They chose Frogmore Cottage themselves, there is no doubt.

All this conjecture about bad relations and back-stabbing and whatnot is absurd.

by Anonymousreply 579November 26, 2018 12:09 AM

They get a place outside of London and an apartment of some description in London, usually St. James' Palace or Buckingham Palace. A minor point but other than the Queen and the Prince of Wales, no one else in the Royal Family has an 'official' residence. Check out the royal website, it refers to Clarence House as the Prince of Wales' official residence and Kensington Palace as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's London residence. Amusingly - and Meagain can't have been Googling herself - there's no reference under the residence section to Meagain living there.

by Anonymousreply 580November 26, 2018 12:33 AM

Emily Andrews made clear in her initial scoop on the Frog Cott move that Harry and Meghan were leaving London entirely, and giving up Nott Cott. No London pad for them - for now.

Frog Cott will be their main base and the Cotswolds rental their weekend "country" retreat. No word on any weekday spot for them in the city. r579 - they may have chosen this move themselves, but lets not get carried away by how many residences they get. Most of the working royals (outside the monarch and heir) get a London space plus country house. Anne stays at BP or St. James and goes home to Gatcombe. Edward can stay at BP (when not being repaired) but goes home to Bagshot, etc. Same for Andrew, who goes to Royal Lodge as do his daughters (Euge is at Ivy Cott during the week and Bea stays at St. James).

R579 - You can bet your arse the limelight loving Meghan didn't choose a boring market town for her "home base". She's leaving the hot spot because she has to. That gurl was't born for English country life - she was born (she thinks) for the red carpets, the cameras, the paps, the magazine covers. As for it being an "official residence" because it is part of the Crown Estates - are you that daft? EVERYONE in a grace and favour residence granted to them by the Queen is in that sense living in an "official" residence - did you think Harry could afford to buy one like that for Meghan? He can't. It's going to be their home base because the Queen isn't going to give them the great big apartment in the heart of London that Meghan envisioned herself living in the day she first met met Harry.

by Anonymousreply 583November 26, 2018 1:09 AM

I think they’ll renovate Frogmore and then do a spread in Architectural Digest

by Anonymousreply 584November 26, 2018 1:17 AM

I suppose there are merching possibilities in furnishings? The Sovereign Grant can only cover structural renovations that make the 5 units into a singular habitable home. All interior design, finishings, furnitures and soft furnishings, outdoor landscaping and exterior curbside appeal have to come out of Harry and Meghan's pocket, or Charles' personal fund. The Queen can't and won't be giving a dime on that front.

by Anonymousreply 586November 26, 2018 2:00 AM

Why don’t any of these royals get professional training to get a paid job? Seems like the wealth is not THAT vast ... must suck to be so dependent on grace and favor.

by Anonymousreply 587November 26, 2018 2:07 AM

Some of them do, r587, esp. the younger ones. You just don't hear about them because they're normal people and not that interesting.

by Anonymousreply 588November 26, 2018 2:09 AM

The children of the Dukes of Kent and Gloucester all have jobs, or their spouses do. Tim Taylor is an art dealer (iirc); the Countess of St. Andrews is a professor. James Oglivy has worked in banking and at Barclays. The Duchess of Kent teaches music part time, I believe she's an accredited teacher.

by Anonymousreply 589November 26, 2018 2:15 AM

Nobody is attacking the Kents or Gorchester's We are just curious who is feeding the media and attacking William,Kate,Harry and Meghan If the cousins are behind it,who knows. But we do know the Kents raised a stink about being charged rent.An the Duchess of Kent has talked to Tattler before.Sorry if some of us are drawing assumptions from that.I.E

Somebody is mad about possibly being kicked out of the new royal circle.

by Anonymousreply 590November 26, 2018 2:22 AM

Since FrogCott is a Crown Estate, can The Sussexes borrow against it? Also, if there is a divorce, the house stays with the Crown and not part of a marital asset, correct?

[quote]R586 We have to look GREAT for the United Kingdom!

I [italic]want[/italic] us to look great, and us to live well, but there's a LIMIT! We're going into DEBT!!

by Anonymousreply 592November 26, 2018 2:24 AM

No r591 they can't borrow against it as they don't own it. It would not be part of a divorce, should that come to pass.

by Anonymousreply 593November 26, 2018 2:27 AM

R593: So are the Sussexes being given that house, in part, to protect the Crown in the case of a divorce?

by Anonymousreply 594November 26, 2018 2:32 AM

It's not the Gloucesters r590 and likely not the Kents either. They know their place and have rarely if ever discussed the Royal Fam with the press, Princess Pushy's prior awkward statements aside. They are all fully aware their roles diminish as time goes on and that they are likely to be retired from public work when Charles is King. They wouldn't be upset about it now.

That said, I doubt he'll put them out of housing either. They are all in small residences at KP now (or will be) and will likely stay there til death. Going foward, future monarchs will be less forthcoming with grace and favor housing doled out to nieces/nephews and cousins. King William, for example, is not likely to grant royal housing to Lady Louise or Viscount Severn when they are older. Or to Harry's kids for that matter.

by Anonymousreply 595November 26, 2018 2:32 AM

r594 no they're being given Frog Cott to live in because it's got security - being part of Windsor Great Park - is near Windsor Castle and is part of a royal estate. It would not factor in a divorce at all. If H & M divorced in the future, both would be given separate grace and favor housing someplace, Meghan would be given a spot until her kids were adults or she re-married. Harry may even be allowed to stay at Frogmore Cottage as its part of his family estate.

by Anonymousreply 596November 26, 2018 2:34 AM

I should add to my post at r596 that if (hypothetical here) H & M were to divorce relatively soon, when their kids are small, Meghan may even be allowed to stay at Frogmore to continue to raise them there. Harry would go elsewhere, to another house or back to London digs.

I'm guessing Meghan would hypothetically be allowed to stay there until her children were out of college, or even beyond that if she stayed single. She'd probably have to move if she re-married.

by Anonymousreply 597November 26, 2018 2:38 AM

I suppose it's cheaper to leave these beautiful homes empty (certainly saves on the heating bill) but it's almost criminal when so many people don't have a roof over their head. A family should definitely enjoy living in them.

BTW, where is Edward and Sophie's london apartment? Bagshot park look the size of Buckingham. Jesus.

There are, in fact, currently two public records for planning permission for the renovation of Frogmore Cottage, both filed on October 26, 2018. Interestingly, a similar document is attached to both applications, which includes the following text:

Quote:

The Local Planning Authority can confirm that the application contains sensitive information and therefore the public register is not accompanied by any forms, drawings or supporting documents. The application will be advertised in the usual way but there is no additional information that is publicly disclosable.
