Emma, easily. She can do comedy, drama, romance, musical; can sing and dance pretty well. She's also charming and easygoing. Meanwhile JLaw is charismatic but she as a human is downright irritable. And she seems shallow and flat out stupid.

R5 Two years ago I'd have agreed with you. But after watching Maniac, Battle of the Sexes and now The Favourite, I believe Emma to be a great actress. She has improved a lot since her Spiderman days. Stone plays geeky, bossy, slightly more intellectual, feminist types.

She's an odd looking human no two ways around it. But pisses on Lawrence as an actress. See her comedy, then see her explosive performance in Birdman. She can also play tender and hurt as in LA La Land when he surprises her for dinner.

Stone is also witty and charming and appreciates old cinema and constantly pays homage to Keaton and Gilda and Chaplin and the like.

J-Law was atrocious in American Hustle. As chloe sevigny said she's annoying and crass. Her burping and vomit routine helped mass appeal but her Oscar and noms are totally underwhelming.

I actually think JLaw has more raw talent. She gets in her own way too much, however. Stone is charming, but bland - as someone else said. They really are the Roberts/Bullock of their generation. I'd love to see the two of them in a Thelma and Louise type film...

Lawrence is much, much more talented than Stone.

But she’s out of control, as an actress, as a celebrity and as a person. She makes bad choices on scripts and during her performances.

Emma Stone makes the best of what she has. She picks better scripts and directors. Lawrence doesn’t. She turned down the Elizabeth Debicki role in Widows, and she would have gotten another Oscar nomination for sure. And Laurence isn’t refined enough for costume drama, unless she were playing a lusty milkmaid.

Have a look at the male Oscar nominees that Teller photographed for this W shoot. Daniel Day-Lewis isn't sitting on a motel bed, half-naked. Andrew Garfield isn't topless. Even an ambitious guy like Robert Pattinson didn't desperately undress in a bid to compensate for lack of talent. Because they know it would look like cheap exposure. A-list male actors don't generally resort to D-list disrobing tricks on magazine covers to get attention from the public. Because they want respect as serious actors, not as vapid négligé models.

And that's the general trend. In PR photos, male Oscar-nom actors usually don't trade on their bodies and semi-nudity as much as females. Female actors are their own worst enemies. They cry for everyone's attention by disrobing (look at me! look at my body!) - but then cry foul when viewers naturally take the bait and focus on their bodies and their semi-nudity instead of their acting chops.

Team Emma here - I think she’s more talented and nuanced as an actress (The Favourite looks fantastic - can’t wait to see it.) J-Law is highly overrated, IMO. Her acting is too broad and unconvincing for me; for instance, American Hustle - her character looked like something out of a Carol Burnett sketch (yet she got an Oscar nomination for it?)

Emma is by far the better actor, but I don't find her at all attractive. She is fish-eyed.

R174 finally mentioned what's probably going on with Lawrence. I think her connection to Harvey hurt her and she's probably not being protected anymore. That's just a part of it, though. She also seems to have made some really bad choices for roles lately. She probably should go away for a while, but Anne Hathaway did and I don't think it really helped her all that much.

I've always liked Emma Stone. She has such a natural screen presence. I thought she stood out in Superbad, which was supposed to be all about Jonah Hill and Michael Cera. Stone stole every scene she was in. I knew she was going to be a star after I saw that movie. My ex told me I was crazy. Years later, he admitted I had called it. Oh well, I should have been a talent agent!
