Dems pick up FORTY seats in the House, the most in several decades. Rethuglicans were thumped.
Yup.

Trump thinks he won, considering what a numbskull he is
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 12, 2018 5:25 PM |
Yeah, and Dems flipped some governorships, which should help them with the real problem they are facing: gerrymandering
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 12, 2018 5:29 PM |
Dems made a lot of gains in state legislatures too.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 12, 2018 5:50 PM |
Lots of dem judges and minority sheriffs too.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 12, 2018 6:04 PM |
yeah, despite not winning much in Ohio aside from Brown, we did get two supreme court judges.
So dewhine is going to have his over reach limited by the court.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 12, 2018 6:06 PM |
Just remember we have to do this in EVERY election cycle until there are barely any GOP officials and judges left...anywhere. Don't lose the intensity!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 12, 2018 6:15 PM |
It was unquestionably a blue wave. But this is why all the election takes being written at 9pm (EST) Tuesday are of limited use
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 12, 2018 6:16 PM |
Why are we so bad at messaging this? Or rather why is the media so intent on not messaging the truth, I guess?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 12, 2018 6:19 PM |
Please consider writing postcards for Espy or donating. I know he's a long shot but we have to try.

Dems do best where there are people. Repubs do best where there are cows.

Because our ratings are the highest when we perpetuate the "it's a horserace between the hapless idealogues of the left and the ruthless efficiency Nazis of the right" storyline, duh.

[quote]Dems pick up FORTY seats in the House
Where is this number coming from? (Your linked article is behind a paywall.) The NYT shows a net gain of 32, with only four of the remaining races leaning D.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 12, 2018 7:30 PM |
It is the highest gain in the House for Democrats since Watergate r14. That is by definition not standard.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 12, 2018 7:34 PM |
Not even remotely standard R14, but you already know that.

Nate Silver predicts likely net gain of 38. It could be 36 or it could be 40, given the sears left.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 13, 2018 2:35 AM |
Maybe it was raining in Republican districts, and they had to cancel voting due to scheduling conflicts.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 13, 2018 2:39 AM |
Trump seems to be handling this well. He is attacking the victims of a massive fires, insulted our own military and their families on remembrance events, and lost his shit over CNN Jim Acosta.

THey are losing senate seats as we speak. Another one was called for the dems, in Arizona.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 13, 2018 2:46 AM |
The Senate is what 47-51 with one recount.
One recount in FL and a runoff in Mississippi.
Could be closer than we think.

Which a whole lot of us were trying to say at the time, but the media kept pushing that it was a nice turnout but not a full wave election. Which isn't surprising because the media seems fully invested in keeping the Democrats down and promoting Trump, because that's how they make their money nowadays.
At some point people are going to have to realize that the media is actively against the citizenry, because they want massacres and fascists and all sorts of crime and oppression to report on and get their little clicks.
So yeah, the Democrats did have a Blue Wave election, and the media will probably never admit it except in a few op-eds or maybe long-form pieces that people will whine about not wanting to read because they're too long.

You have no idea how hard the GOP is taking the loss of Jeff Flake's seat.
They are losing their damn minds. A whole section of the country - Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado and now potentially Arizona is just slipping out of their fingers and they have no clue how to fix this.
They have no idea how to grow their base, they're just a bunch of frightened, extremely old white men.
Now Trump is all set to start firing people just to distract from the blue wave.

Trump visited Montana four times to campaign for GOP senate candidate Matt Rosendale and against Democratic senator John Tester. Four times.
Tester was elected anyway.

In Arizona, McSally isn't objecting to conceding to Kirsten Sinema. Rumor has it that McSally may become a senator after all. Repug Jon Kyle, a former AZ senator, was appointed to serve in John McCain's senate seat. Sinema is actually filling retiring Jeff Flake's Senate seat,. Kyle may not want to serve the entire time The Repug governor may appoint McSally to become senator should Kyle step down.

You should have heard the head of the Republican party in NJ yesterday on NPR R36. He was practically screaming. NJ Republicans lost every seat except ONE, and they BARELY held onto that. That hasn’t happened in decades.

When entrenched red states like Arizona and Montana , elect Democrat Senators... that is a big deal. It wasn't a landslide, but how many years, such as Arizona, has a Democrat Senator been elected? Many years.. Someone up thread said not to lose the intensity of voting in future elections.. very true. Never be complacent! Keep it up!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 14, 2018 4:18 PM |
I’m shocked by that R41! I’ve lived in NY for almost thirty years and it seems like forever.
