Do you use Dawn? Do you soak in Palmolive? Do you swear by Method? Do you only use Tide? Do you Cascade?
Blue Dawn and nothing else.

Palmolive!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 5, 2018 6:08 AM |
Palmolive since moving to the States. Always bought Fairy at home.

Method. Ethical palm oil. I care about the orangutan genocide.

Dawn just congeals under the hot water tap so I went back to Palmolive.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 5, 2018 6:36 AM |
Dawn, its also great for getting stains out of clothing. Just pre-treat the spot, wash and the stain is usually gone.

Palmolive smells better than Dawn.

Dawn Ultra Plus Oxiclean.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 5, 2018 6:50 AM |
Palmolive, you get the most suds. I can't use Dawn, the scent gives me a slight headache
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 5, 2018 6:52 AM |
Glad it's not just me R12. Dawn smells toxic to me. The concentrated Palmolive doesn't smell as nice as the regular strength, yet they still label it "Original". It is still not as offensive as Dawn. I find these concentrated formulas are a sham. They do not clean better, I need to use just as much, and they give you less in the bottle for more money. Perhaps hard water is to blame.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 5, 2018 6:56 AM |
Palmolive Oxy. Almost out though probably get the Palmolive Coconut Butter next smells really great,
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 5, 2018 7:02 AM |
I tried using Dawn because it's what they use to remove the oil from bird feathers (when oil spills occur), so I thought it must be effective. Wrong. It may clean bird feathers, but it's not great at cleaning dishes. And it created a lot of suds. Who needs a foot high pile of suds? Went back to good old Palmolive (the amber colored one), and it's so much better. And besides that, wasn't Palmolive what Madge always soaked her nails in? So if it's good enough for that bitch, it's good enough for me.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 5, 2018 7:05 AM |
Original Palmolive in the larger super saver size. Most cost effective. Also buy gigantic versions of toilet paper and paper towels.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 5, 2018 7:06 AM |
Palmolive Soft Touch Aloe and Citrus. It's amazing, works perfectly, smells great and your hands will thank you. There are few things worse for your skin on a daily basis than dish soap that strips the Hell out of your hands.

All scents except lavendar...it's too strong.

Palmolive Ultra Antibacterial is the SHIzNIT! Kills 99% of E. coli, salmonella, and staph and it smells great -plus it's easy on my hands. Cuts the grease too and does a great job with tough "stuck on" food. It's fantastic.

In the machine, I use Cascade professional fryer boil out, and a pill of Cascade platinum in the pop-hatch.
I like clean dishes, missed having them.

by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 5, 2018 3:59 PM |
For washing dishes by hand, I've been happy with Green Works. I'm not convinced that it's much greener than other products, but it does clean and rinse well, without making mountains of suds, and it has a pleasant scent.
For the dishwasher, Cascade Complete does the job. Of course, different water can affect performance but, for me, the Complete tabs work better than the more expensive Platinum version.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 5, 2018 4:17 PM |
I only wash my sink dishes in JR Watkins Aloe dishwashing liquid. It's mild and effective. Everything else I use action packs I buy Kirkland from Costco.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 5, 2018 4:34 PM |
Dreft of course
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 5, 2018 7:33 PM |
you wash your dishes in dreft? wtf.

I think it's strange to hear old radio ads (pre-television; from the '40s) where they suggest using a bar of soap for your bathroom, your kitchen (for dishes) and your fine washables. I guess this was before detergent was widely available, but I think it's very odd to think of washing your dishes with a bar of soap.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 5, 2018 10:03 PM |
I buy the largest container possible of Dawn at Costco. I also buy the smallest container of Dawn possible at Kroger. I just keep refilling the little bottle from the big bottle.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 5, 2018 10:36 PM |
dawn is murder for my hands.

R36 This is how many still wash up throughout The Third World. I've seen many use the same bars for everything...
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 5, 2018 11:13 PM |
Dawn made my sponge stink repeatedly. Even after boiling it in hot water the stink came back. Never again. Palmolive no issues.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 5, 2018 11:14 PM |
Cum.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 5, 2018 11:15 PM |
Dawn really does cut grease. The dishes go in the dishwasher, but the pots, pans, and Waterford flutes and stems get washed by hand. Nothing gets the broiler pan cleaner or lipstick off the rim of a wineglass like Dawn.
It's also great to clean the soap scum off the shower walls and the inside of the tub.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 6, 2018 12:33 AM |
The fryer boil out has phosphates going for it, but also a lot of harsh silicates.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 6, 2018 2:10 AM |
Me, I a cheapskate.
I purchase Kirkland brand dish soap. One more thing: rather than using full-strength dish soap, I fill a tall, glass Olive Oil dispenser half way with the dish soap, then fill the remainder of the dispenser with COLD water (to lessen the 'sudsing' affect while filling). The ratio must be 1:1. (Do not shake the dispenser to blend the two liquids; instead roll the dispenser, thumb over bottle opening. Once adequately blended, THEN insert the spout.)
The result is the dish soap is thinned out enough to easily pour through the dispenser's spout, cost savings, yet attractive to warrant a space on your counter. (Just because I'm frugal, doesn't mean I live in a trailer ala the plastic bottle of dish soap affixed to one's kitchen counter. Keep that thing out of sight.) The dish soap's effectiveness does not change.
Try it.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 6, 2018 2:31 AM |
Damn I don’t do all that r44 . Dish soap is cheap enough anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 6, 2018 2:54 AM |
Dawn. No trouble at all.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 6, 2018 2:57 AM |
Do you all rinse your dishes or just let the soap dry on them like the Brits?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 6, 2018 4:08 AM |
I love the smell of green Palmolive.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 6, 2018 4:12 AM |
The old ads for Ivory Liquid would have you believe it was some lush beauty treatment for your hands.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 6, 2018 4:18 AM |
That is cheap, r44.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 6, 2018 4:18 AM |
Of course I rinse, r47.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 6, 2018 4:19 AM |
R47 Rinse under running water. No dip or dunk either. This is some DL myth we don't rinse our dishes. I've seen the thread where the same is accused of the Irish. I will say the dip method of rinsing is more popular with my Irish relatives, but it is better than nothing I supppose.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 6, 2018 4:25 AM |
I use JR Watkins Dishwashing Liquid. I like lemon or aloe.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 6, 2018 11:32 AM |
I used to love Dawn. But they changed it and the smell is awful now. I switched to Palmolive about a year ago and I don't think it cuts grease as well as Dawn did, but it smells SOOOO much better.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | November 6, 2018 12:10 PM |
i love the smell of palmolive and how it doesn't eat the skin off of my hands. Dawn makes a hand-care type formula too.

No love for Lemon-fresh Joy?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | November 6, 2018 12:28 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 58 | November 6, 2018 12:33 PM |
"Sun" brand...1.29 bottle...when it's on sale for $.88 i stock up! I hate Palmolive and Dawn...they don't seem to rinse "clean" and are pricey comparitively.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 6, 2018 12:35 PM |
Joy is available. Even at Walmart. I'm gonna go out and buy a bottle of it today and wash wash wash!
by Anonymous | reply 60 | November 6, 2018 12:36 PM |
You'd have to ask my cleaning lady because I wouldn't have any idea.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | November 6, 2018 12:45 PM |
Mostly Dawn. That stuff is unbelievable, it took a stain out of one of my chairs after I spilled coffee on it.

[quote] dawn is murder for my hands.
R38 that was my problem with dawn, but I switched to Dawn Renewal and that really made a huge difference. I use that in summer but in winter I use regular Dawn and rubber gloves. If my bare hands are going in the water it is Dawn Renewal.
Well actually I use the Walmart version of Dawn Renewal, huge jug and I just refill my old Dawn Renewal bottle.

Fairy, at least now in 2018, is re-branded Palmolive. Maybe it always has been.

Mrs. Meyers Basil. I tried the honeysuckle counter spray once and it made me sneeze my head off. I couldn’t figure it out at first and then I remembered how allergic my dad was to honeysuckle. He would sneeze forever if exposed. I guess I have developed that now.

The best shower/tub cleaner I have ever found.
Blue Dawn dish washing detergent mixed 50/50 with white vinegar and warmed in the microwave, then put in a spray bottle.
Don't microwave in a spray bottle it will melt the bottle.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | November 6, 2018 1:15 PM |
I've used Joy lemon scented for years but since I just got back from a UK trip, I'm hooked on Fairy.

I live in Belgium and Dreft is the best for doing dishes es by hand . Its very common in Europe
by Anonymous | reply 69 | November 6, 2018 1:36 PM |
Dreft was a powdered laundry detergent from P&G in the 1950s. I made my mother buy it because it was pink.

R64 - I agree with Dawn Renewal being a great choice (regular Dawn is HELL on your hands), but for some reason, they dropped the Olay affiliation on the label many months ago (at least at the stores that I shop at) and then months later I could no longer find the product again. Now I buy Palmolive Soft Touch and I am perfectly happy. I like the scent better anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | November 7, 2018 3:35 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 77 | November 7, 2018 12:49 PM |
R65 That seems impossible or implausible, as P&G and Colgate Palmolive are direct competitors. I don't believe Colgate-Palmolive would ever even licence its name to P&G. Palmolive has always had a huge presence in Britain and Europe; they don't need P&G.
