Recurring SNL skits that were funny every single time

Not many! Some were hilarious the first time, then done to death (like "The Californians" or--to be honest--Juneece on "The Lawrence Welk Show"). But I would nominate:

Emily Litella

Roseanne Roseannadanna

Point/Counterpoint ("Jane, you ignorant slut!")

Mr. Bill

Toonces, the Cat Who Could Drive a Car

The Sweeney Sisters

Stefon

Vincent Price Holiday Specials

Target Lady

Most game show sketches are terrible, but the following are almost always funny:

Secret Word (always with Mindy Gracen)

Black Jeopardy

Celebrity Jeopardy

by Anonymousreply 1November 4, 2018 4:58 AM

Lisa Lupner and Todd.

by Anonymousreply 2November 4, 2018 4:59 AM

Some of the commercial spoofs.

Bass-o-matic

The change bank

by Anonymousreply 3November 4, 2018 5:01 AM

None of them.

by Anonymousreply 4November 4, 2018 5:01 AM

Most of the funny skits were on the early shows. It hasn't been funny in years.

by Anonymousreply 5November 4, 2018 5:02 AM

[quote] Some of the commercial spoofs. Bass-o-matic The change bank

Those weren't recurring sketches.

Fred Garvin - Male Prostitute (Dan Aykroyd).

by Anonymousreply 7November 4, 2018 5:36 AM

The Sweeney Sisters!

by Anonymousreply 8November 4, 2018 5:36 AM

One they did only twice, but that was hilarious both times, was Paul Brittain's hilarious Lord Wyndemere, where he was the child-like 48 year old British Lord Wyndemere (dressed like Gainsborough's Blue Boy), whose girlfriend's father (a regular suburban dad) just adored him.

James Brown's Hot Tub

by Anonymousreply 10November 4, 2018 7:57 PM

Fernando's Hideaway

by Anonymousreply 11November 4, 2018 7:58 PM

Debbie Downer

by Anonymousreply 12November 4, 2018 8:00 PM

Melanie Hutsell played a conceited lady character who was convinced that everyone was hitting on her. It was pretty funny. She made a bartender empty her drink and pour a new one. When asked why, she deadpanned “Spanish Fly?”.

Also the “Leg Up” program with characters playing Ann Miller and Debbie Reynolds as dirty old broads was fun, too. I think these were Molly Shannon and Cheri Oteri, who also played an old Italian women whose signature expression was “See this? Mine now!” When kids’ toys appeared in her yard or on her porch.

Hmmm...could it be...SATAN?

Old French Whore, the game show that paired French prostitutes with college kids.

by Anonymousreply 18November 4, 2018 8:27 PM

Jorge and Yortuk Festrunk, the swinging Czechoslovakian brothers

by Anonymousreply 19November 4, 2018 8:41 PM

And Uncle Roy, which would never make it on tv, late night or otherwise, today

by Anonymousreply 20November 4, 2018 8:42 PM

The Louds

by Anonymousreply 21November 4, 2018 8:43 PM

Just my opinion, but some of those early SNL recurring skits do not hold up well. I'm embarrassed I ever thought they were funny. Maybe in the future, I'll hate it, but I like the "What's Up with That" talk show with Kenan Thompson as the host and "Lindsay Buckingham" as the recurring guest.

R26- "Dad always thought laughter was the best medicine, which I guess is why several of us died of tuberculosis. "

"I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they’d never expect it."

" Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you’re a mile away and you have their shoes."

They've rehashed this skit several times, and I've enjoyed it each time.

Stuart Smalley was always good for a laugh.

To think, they made an entire movie based on THIS characte?? However, I do remember laughing out loud at least once:

Stuart was an adult male living back at home and speaking on the phone with - maybe a patient?

He was advising them (possibly bragging to them) that all one had to do to ensure effective interpersonal relationships was to set firm boundaries, but before he could even finish his thought, his mother picked up the extension downstairs and immediately started dialing right over him: beep boo-boop beep boop boop beep.

by Anonymousreply 34November 4, 2018 10:56 PM

Roseanne Roseannadanna

Haunted Elevator (ft. David S. Pumpkins)

It's not recurring but if you watch it several times it gets funnier.

It actually was--they did a second one, and then an animated movie about it.
