Andy Cohen needs to learn how to be a more effective show host. You get difficult guests, that's part and parcel of the job. A skilled show host knows how to diffuse the situation and make it still fun to watch, even with standoff-ish guests.

Winger was irritable and didn't play along and Cohen just shrunk like a deflated balloon. He needs to have some jokes up his sleeve to make light of such silly situations. A host like Graham Norton would have handled this better.

In many ways, Debra Winger is too intelligent for her own good, and yet she lacks a certain emotional intelligence. She is a great talent who blew her career due to being too smart to play the game. After talking about how great her interview with Baldwin was, I rewatched the clip in OP and felt really bad for Winger. It wasn't all heirs. You could tell she was embarrassed by what she had reduced herself to and that she may also have been expressing a little regret over her past behaviors and slights.

It's really a shame she didn't do more. I mean, I'm sure she's quite happy and content, living a comfortable life but it would have been interesting to see her tackle more varied work.

Fame is so strange and utterly manufactured. Very few stars are stars because the general audience actually likes them. It's usually paid-for fame. Winger is actually very similar to Lange in that they can both get challenging when faced with superficiality and frivolity. Lange is much more alluring and as a result can mask her contempt more, though sometimes she lets it all hang and she's also a deeply melancholic person which comes through so you tend to understand her aloofness more. Lange is an Aries/Taurus cusp and Winger an Aries, so I think they probably share qualities from both signs.

Interviews ranked:

Meryl's are the more intellectual and thought provoking while Lange's are the more alluring and whimsical.

Close is always a bit too eager though she can be refreshingly candid and fun and is always intelligent.

We forget that for some actors acting is a real craft and they are not just up there posing in front of a camera saying words. From the standpoint of someone like Winger what questions can you ask that are not stupid? Asking about their process is not interesting to most viewers. It's all the fluffy questions they want to hear but those questions would be irritating to any actor that truly works at their art.

PBS showed Terms of Endearment last night and her performance stands up. Her death scene is one of the most realistic on film. Neither female lead character is likable yet the actresses make them so.

I used to wait on her in the late 80s, early 90s. Sure, that was a long time ago but she was a bigger star then, and a hugely unpleasant person. You could see her using every bit of her strength to seem human and barely civil. She's uncomfortable to be around. People like this don't mellow with age.
