Attack Angels! Julie beats the shit out of her undercover boss.
Julie socked it to Kelly but Kris kicked her ass.

Julie is gonna kick Victor Newman’s ass here in a few minutes.

I thought Tanya did a good job in that episode (and also her first episode) but didn't give her much else to do other than look hot (and often in a bikini for the Hawaii episodes). She was one of the few bright spots of Season 5.
Some of the scripts that season were horrid and Jaclyn (especially) and Cheryl were over the show and phoned it in. Cheryl would put in some effort if she was used a lot in a particular episode. They probably knew the show was on it's last leg.

Julie kicked ass!

Has the classic Angel On The Line with Margo shown up yet?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 30, 2018 10:36 PM |
I thought another good episode from season 5 was the one in which Kris was kidnapped by this man and his grown kids who accused Kris of having killed his wife. (IIRC, when Kris was a policewoman, she had arrested the man's wife, who committed suicide while in police custody, though I could be wrong about that.) Anyway, it was a good episode with nice performances from Cheryl Ladd, Cameron Mitchell (as the father), and "Family" star Gary Frank as the mentally-challenged son who took a liking to Kris.

R6, I hated that episode.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 30, 2018 11:11 PM |
Am I the only one who found the skin tone of Tanya Roberts to be distracting? Ruddy and off-putting.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 30, 2018 11:19 PM |
R5, that episode was shown on METV last week.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 30, 2018 11:51 PM |
And it was hilarious! ^

I love the scene when my favorite Angel, Jaclyn Smith, whupped that asian shop owner's ass. She block all his punches, punched the shit out of him, flipped his ass into some shelves, then did the famous Kelly Garrett post-ass kicking hair flip. LIFE!!!

I think the final episode airs this Friday on MeTV for anyone who's interested.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 31, 2018 3:27 AM |
Oh I’m interested!

Kelly gets shot in the head for a second time during the series and lots of flashback clips.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 31, 2018 5:54 PM |
Kelly was shot in the head twice?
That explains so much...
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 31, 2018 5:57 PM |
Oh Bootsie, I’ve missed you so.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 31, 2018 6:06 PM |
Thankfully for Kelly, there was no blood or scarring from either one.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 31, 2018 6:08 PM |
Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd were waiting for the show to be over. They were tired of it.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 31, 2018 6:22 PM |
Had it been renewed for a sixth season, Jaclyn no doubt would’ve quit but wouldn’t Cheryl have been stuck for one more season? Don’t they sign 5-year contracts on these shows?
If so, at least she would’ve moved up to lead position.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 31, 2018 6:27 PM |
Tanya said Jaclyn started cheering when it was announced on set that the show was canceled. Thought that was strange. Jaclyn announced she was leaving the show at the end of Season 5 even before the show began taping.
Yes, I believe they were under 5-year contracts. I think if the show was renewed for another season, Cheryl would've stuck around and fulfilled her contract. Most people expected Season 5 would be the last anyway, because they hype and ratings for the show had declined a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 31, 2018 6:32 PM |
Whoops, that should be: Jaclyn announced she was leaving the show at the end of Season 5 even before the show even began taping that season.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 31, 2018 6:34 PM |
Had it been renewed for a sixth season, Jaclyn would have left and they probably would have brought in Sada Thompson as Angel Laraine a character they had screentested Thompson for after Kate Jackson left.

Imagine a new Angels lineup with Joanna Cassidy, Kim Basinger and Barbara Bach. All three were considered as replacement Angels at one point.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 31, 2018 7:13 PM |
Shit.....
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 31, 2018 9:28 PM |
Joanna Cassidy would be a great for camp.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 1, 2018 1:34 AM |
I think, had it been renewed for a season six, it would've been the perfect opportunity to finally bring a black actress onto the show as angel #3. They certainly had nothing much to lose by then and it would've generated some major new buzz for an aging show. I can just imagine Cheryl Ladd, Tanya Roberts and perhaps Jayne Kennedy (who was actually rumored to be under consideration at one point). Could've been interesting, especially for a last season.

That would have been great. But what really did the show in - imho - was horrendous writing. Aaron Spelling never believed that ambitious writing was good for ratings. And he may have been right to a certain degree. His success proved him right. But his approach rarely helped a show long term. His shows got a lot of initial buzz. But when the novelty factor wore off it became way too obvious that most of his shows lacked substance. I'd say buzz gets you through the first one, maybe two seasons. But you can only get to season five, seven or even ten if you invest in good acting, directing and writing.

I agree, r27.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 2, 2018 10:38 AM |
That episode was lame as shit, R6. PLUS you forgot Jane Wyman as a fucking psychic in that episode.

Rewatching the "Margo" episode I couldn't help but laugh how wimpy they made Kelly in this episode. People have threatened and tried to kill her many times put someone does it over a phone and she falls apart.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 2, 2018 11:59 AM |
Rewatching this season really shows that thy were running out of ideas. What haven't we done yet, okay taxi drivers, stuntwomen,. It as really time to end it. It's interesting to see ho much Cheryl Ladd aged in three years. She doesn't look old by any means but she looked like a kid in season 2.

The Mr Galaxy episode was on yesterday. I believe the main bodybuilder guy was a Colt model but couldn't find any pics.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 2, 2018 12:57 PM |
At least Tanya Roberts still worked after Charlie's Angels was over. She did plenty of stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 2, 2018 5:27 PM |
R30 how about 'detective' Kelly can't figure out WHO was calling her, when she gave out her phone#/card to Margo less than an hour before. I had new appreciation for Jaclyn's acting. She deserved an emmy for not laughing hysterically doing those scenes with the obvious trannie.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 2, 2018 6:04 PM |
Re Aaron Spelling not being a fan of good writing:
I remember reading that when Charlie's Angels was a smash and they needed scripts "pronto," the producers would actually recycle unused (or was it used) scripts from Starsky and Hutch just to have another episode in the works....
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 2, 2018 6:15 PM |
Bump.

Kelly got shot today, again. Fake tears roll.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 2, 2018 9:20 PM |
IIRC, the ratings had dropped so badly that ABC yanked the show off the air during the regular season and the last few episodes aired over the summer of 1981. That's always a sign that something is dead in the water.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 2, 2018 10:45 PM |
Oh who gives a fuck?!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 2, 2018 11:23 PM |
R35 I always wanted a Starsky and Hutch/ Charlie’s Angels crossover episode.
I would’ve had a nerdgasm, especially if they had set it on The Love Boat. OMG!
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 3, 2018 4:40 AM |
R32: I've just seen the, "Mr. Galaxy" episode. Had I seen it in 1981, I, as a 16-year-old, would have had to excuse myself after the sight of Roger Callard. I also loved the short-shorts worn by Tanya Roberts in this episode.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | December 11, 2020 4:49 AM |
I thought Tanya was actually great for the show—very spunky and photogenic—and if she had replaced Kate Jackson instead of Shelley Hack, the ratings would have stayed up and the show would have run longer.
