I loved the Carver bullshit and the whole Matt/Kimber Scientology and meth story line. I LOVE this show!!! Season 4 and the whole organ trade thing was my least favorite.

I loved how each week the writers would find a whole new way to torture Matt. Starting otu small in season one from a high school kid trying to get a date, then into a nazi, a gay porn actor, a meth head, allowing an innocent retarded man be executed, an armed robber, a mime, and finally running off with a tranny. And I'm sure I left some out. Matt outdid the Book of Job.

And except for the daughter every member of that family at least once was involved in committing a murder . Just your average plastic surgeons, like the doctor who had sex with the couch.

There was an episode where the son was going to do gay porn for a company owned by John Schneider (I think). No nudity, but there was a scene where they talked about him douching and getting warmed up with a butt plug, before he changed his mind right before he was supposed to film. I thought that was hot at the time.

It should have focused more on the individual patients instead of the ever more bizarre and implausible...and boring doctor's storylines.

I watched this show for the first couple of seasons. Then it became too much like a John Waters movie. Just too much crazy shit, even for a soap opera, although it called itself a "drama."

This morning I watched the film, "Fantastic Four: Silver Surfer," where his character was the villain. In the film he had a huge, puffy face and dyed-black hair (which competed with Jessica Alba's badly bleached blond hair and hideous blue eye contacts). Barley recognized him.

I never understood why they so wasted Alanis Morisette. Why get a guest star like that and give her nothing at all to do except that one scene she gapes at the doctor dressed as Santa fucking the female midget Santa's helper in the mall Santa house. At least a couple seasons later the doctor's wife got even.

and of course....Mrs. Grubman

The LA seasons (S5 Parts 1 and 2, S6) are where the show went from a deliciously campy, stylish noir primetime soap into the ridiculous, largely tedious territory, even though the signs of things going awry were already there even in S4. The second part of S6, as the show was limping towards the end, was an improvement since the writing returned to the core characters and gave every character's story an appropriate conclusion.

Remember when we didn't know Wilbert was going to black. The reaction on Julian McMahon's face when she gave birth was priceless.

As someone else pointed out, the season 2 finale was its peak. After that, it went downhill.

Famke was great as Ava: her performance had the perfect amount of camp. I'm surprised Ryan Murphy has never had her on American Horror Story.

S3 had its moments. My partner and I were speculating at the time that Joan Rivers would turn out to be The Carver.

It had its moments, but Murphy didn't really find his voice until the far superior AHS.

Bryce Johnson (Josh from Murphy's Popular) pounding the fuck out of Bruno Campos' ass was pretty great.

The first 3 seasons were brilliant and super fun. 4 is when it started turning into this generation's Love Boat with a new celebrity or two in every episode. You'd just keep watching to see what crazy shit the guest stars would do. I remember Melissa Gilbert fucking her dog and it biting off her nipple and Catherine Deneuve wanting her lover's ashes put into her breast implants. I still remember them, so you can't say they were boring. The first 3 seasons kept it fairly realistic and it had a semi-Six Feet Under feel including it's own Mrs. Chenoweth played by Vanessa Redgrave who was Julia's crazy mother.

Murphy did give his actors some great material there in the beginning and I'm surprised it didn't get nominated for more Emmys and even win some. Some of the acting in those first 3 seasons was extraordinary. I think the actors started to resent him as the show went on and they were given idiotic storyline after idiotic storyline. I remember thinking the only storyline that resolved realistically was the Kimber storyline. It made sense for her to kill herself. She reminded me of a lot of women I know in my life who was always trying to find herself.

The son looked like Michael Jackson. I guess that was the producers inside joke about a plastic surgery show.

Unlike a lot of people, I kinda liked Julia. Her character made sense to me. She had so much potential, but wasted it all on being a surgeon's wife. I liked when she finally came unglued in seasons 2 and 3. I think her best moment was when she killed her mother after that plane crash and went back home and discovered that her mother was waiting for her on the couch and she'd killed the wrong person. I found it funny that they never addressed that again.

Why would they need to revisit this. Every one of them was a remorseless murderer at least once. This was just one more. If Sean, Julia, and Matt would pop up in an episode of American Horror as damned spirits they'd fit right in.

I only saw a few episodes but i do remember being scandalized at seeing Rhona Mitra's character finger Kimber under the table at a restaurant. And i think Brittany Snow played a racist who was dating Matt?? And she gets upset when she finds out that she has 1/8 of African blood or something.

Nip/Tuck was definitely the most scandalous thing we'd seen on basic cable at the time. I think the only things they weren't allowed to show were tits (without something covering the nipples), cock, and the use of f-bombs. Everything else seemed fair game. Now, the f-bomb is fair game on FX and AMC and networks like that. It's wild. I grew up in the 90's where TV cuts of movies usually felt like completely different films with alternate scenes and takes used to cover up swearing, nudity, violence, and gore. They'd cut everything to hell and back.

Nip/Tuck was definitely something I never expected to see on TV and, maybe, part of the allure was that it was a more frank and sexually explicit soap opera. I remember being in high school when it premiered.

That the theme of the show - Tell Me What You Don't Like About Yourself - was stated and explored every episode was genius.

Of course, the best episode was the Season 2 finale, Joan Rivers.

I was obsessed with this show. I wouldnt miss an episode for anything. Until they moved from Miami.It went straight to shit then.But when it was good it was very good.

I loved this show. It was so weird and insane, the stories were fantastic. I couldn’t stand Matt. Fish faced weird face and a terrible actor. Julian McMahon on the other hand, was delicious.

You're right. When it was good, it was sometimes brilliant. I loved how all the characters were super flawed, but you got a peek into their minds very often and could feel for them. I still remember when it's revealed that Christian was molested and all the stuff with Julia and her crazy mother. It really made their characters more interesting and you could see where they were coming from. Such a great show!

Melanie Griffith as Kimber’s mom was such brilliant casting. Actually, all the casting was pretty perfect... and, even though he was reviled, I think the actor who played Matt was well chosen. If they hired someone hot it would have made him seem less pathetic and give away the big twist that he was Christian’s son too early. As it was, it was a big surprise. Although they tied it all up quite well at the end, I’d love to see a reboot or TV movie someday.

Was i the only one who felt sexual tension between two main male characters? By the way, how did it end?

I wish they'd given Melanie a bit more to do as Kimber's mom. She really was perfectly cast.

And yes, the sexual tension between Christian and Sean was through the roof. I think there was an episode in season 2 or 3 where they're off at some hotel for a convention or recertification thing and they have a threesome with a woman who looks like Julia. The entire time, I kept expecting them to push her out of the bed and start fucking each other. I think they did something similar in season 4 where the Brooke Shields character suggested that maybe Christian's relationship issues stem from him being in love with Sean.

I always hated the fugly nurse. As I recall, Christian MARRIED her. The reasoning was this: Christian was dying of cancer and would soon "not be able to wipe his own ass (I think the fugly nurse said that). He needs someone to take care of him, so he married the ugly nurse. WTF? Why did he have to do that? Couldn't he have just hired an attractive nurse to care for him? Or MARRIED an attractive nurse? On this show, that was certain possible. But no, he married Nurse Ugly in order to have someone to care for him in his infirmity. But wait! As it turns out there's some mix up and Christian is informed that he is NOT dying of cancer after all. The doctor who tells him the good news wishes him a long, happy life with his new wife. The look on Christian's face is pure horror. I never found out how THAT storyline was resolved.

R48 = Demi Moore

I can't remember if the Liz/Christian marriage storyline was resolved or not (it's been almost 10 years since it left the air. Wow!), but knowing Ryan Murphy, I doubt it was resolved. That was way after the show had jumped the shark and it had turned into a nonsensical train wreck that you couldn't look away from. That was probably one of the more plausible storylines they came up with during that time.

I thought Dylan Walsh was incredibly sexy.

What ever happened to Dylan Walsh? After the show ended, he did that awful remake of The Stepfather and that seemed to be about it. Come to think of it, you could say the same for the rest of the Nip/Tuck cast. I hear that, by the end of the show, they weren't too happy with Murphy who'd gone off to make Glee and didn't have as much time for their show anymore.

Walsh was a cop/detective co-lead on another series that ran for a few seasons. I didn't watch it, but remember seeing the previews.

It got crazy at the end.

The Divine Vanessa made a guest appearance for the sake of her daughter (??niece??).

Her character has a full facelift and the afterwards half the screen was blurred to hide Vanessa's wrinkles.

Bruno Campos (The Carver) is a lawyer now.

The show went to shit like every Murphy show. He can't seem to carry a show past two seasons. The only interesting thing was when the two main characters almost fucked. Or when the kid was raped in prison and forced to get tits.

That scene is my favorite R21. And Julia wakes up and says “It was always you.” Just totally loved that episode and season. Unfortunately, since it was early Ryan Murphy, it was kind of all downhill after that.

Dylan Walsh was on this season's two-hour premiere of "SVU."

Did Famke or Ryan Murphy take any heat from the trans community at the time? I know they hate when men play them, but what about women? Certainly, they'd be flattered that someone as stunning as Famke played one of them. Then again, Ava was a slightly villainous character, so I doubt they could have loved that. I'm not sure if her character could exist today.

I've always found it hilarious that the Australian movie journalist and owner of the movie and tv news site Dark Horizons hates Julian McMahon with passion. I've never understood why but I assume it's either because McMahon is seen as a bit of a joke in Australia or that he possibly acted like a total ass in an interview with Dark Horizons.

I forgot about Cherry Peck played by soon-to-be drag star William Belli. I'm sure the trans people didn't appreciate that either, but I don't remember any backlash at the time. This was also pre-Twitter and Tumblr nuts it seemed. I think we had Facebook and MySpace then, but Twitter was maybe still in its infancy.

I do remember Murphy's pilot called Pretty/Handsome where Joseph Fiennes discovers he's trans and starts the transition. It was a bit like Transparent, except I don't remember the characters being as unlikable and Fiennes was, of course, younger than Tambor. It also had Alexandra Billings in a major supporting role. Still, that series never went to air, so who's to say what would have happened.

Murphy's made a big name for himself in the trans community this year for Pose and for casting actual trans people, so maybe all is forgiven...at least until some overeager SJW does some digging and starts calling these older Murphy characters/performances "problematic." I wouldn't be surprised to see a stupid blog about this soon. "Ryan Murphy: Trans Hero or Problematic Cis Gay Man?"

I doubt he took heat since he gave Candace Cane a big role on the show -even got to fuck Julian.

I've been binge watching this the past few days (half way through season 4) and it is amazing how much more I relate to the characters now than I did in my 20's. I used to think people would NEVER be as back stabbing, vindictive and emotionally fucked as the main characters but then I grew up.

I always liked that, even though it was a trashy soap, the characters (for the first few seasons) were pretty realistic.

This still makes me laugh out loud.

Julia and Matt were horrible characters that ruined the show. If they brought the show back, i'd hope that they would use different actors for those characters.

Matt was such a piece of shit. I was semi on board with him during the first 2 or 3 seasons, because he was just a teenager who didn't seem to know what he wanted or how his actions would fuck up people's lives, but by season 4 and up, I just wanted him to be brutally murdered ASAP.

Matt's wiki article has a season by season breakdown of the terrible things he did to himself and others. He was a one-man plague. I think that's why the show ended, they ran out of atrocities FX would permit.

There was an episode in season 4 I think where Sean and Christian almost kissed, but it turned out to be a dream of Christian's and he wakes up, tells his shrink, and she tells him that it might mean that Christian is secretly gay. I think the whole episode was him wondering if Sean was more than a friend. It never really went anywhere, though.

Joely Richardson sure was plain, wasn't she? I always felt like she was miscast as Julia. If two men are going to be fighting over a woman, you better make sure she's super gorgeous. I always pictured Julia being more of a Michelle Pfeiffer type. Still blonde and icy, but genuinely gorgeous. Both Joely's mother and sister are quite beautiful, so it must really suck to be her. Even when her mother guest starred on the show, she was 20/30 years older than her and outshined her in the looks department.

Vanessa Redgrave was so brilliant on this show. I still can't believe some of the great guest stars they got on the show. Had Catherine Deneuve even done American TV before doing an episode of Nip/Tuck? I have to give Ryan Murphy this - he seems to be able to talk great actresses into doing literally anything. They just trust him. As they should. He make get them to say and do crazy things, but they never feel exploitative and everyone seems to be having a blast.

Did Sean and Christian ever charge anybody for their services? Seems to me every other show featured them giving free plastic surgery to somebody as a bribe, or just to be nice.

Yeah they seemed to make most of their money off of your average tit and face lifts.

I LOVED the Merrill Bobolitt BOBOTOX/trading a Ferrari for Kimber/ being addicted to nitrous at Madame Rose's salon story line...

I remember the Bobolitt storyline at Madame Rose's very disturbing. How they killed that girl accidentally and Rose pulls out a saw and says "we'll use this. She'll be easier to transport if she's in pieces." Then, I remember him wanting to cut off Christian's face and sew it onto him and then he starts slicing into his own face....ICK! That was one of the creepier, more disturbing episodes of the entire series.

Murphy gets older actresses cause he gives them more interesting roles than they would normally get.

Murphy has become the patron saint of actresses over 40. He might have serious ADD and get distracted by his other projects, but he does give really talented women opportunities they wouldn't usually get and I have to love him for that.
