The Rookie

A 40-year old rookie, played by a man well on his way to 60.

I hate these high concept shows. They suck.

But it is just so much fun watching Nathan Fillion run.

i'm enjoying it. Eric Winter ain't bad looking.

Fillion is not yet 50, but there is a huge difference between the way a 40-year old guy looks and late 40s. Middle age smacks you in the face between those two points and Fillion is no exception.

There is a barely remembered cop drama from 1972-76 on ABC called The Rookies. Kate Jackson and Michael Ontkean (later co-stars in Making Love) were in it. I remember seeing promos for it as a kid but no one in our family watched it.

flawed concept, though High Def is not Nathan's friend (nor anyone else's).

The Rookies was a good show and Ontkean was very attractive in it. What I remember best about him, though, was his on-ice strip tease in "Slap Shot."

I watched the pilot and was surprised at how disappointed I was. It felt so rushed... opening scene Nathan's a depressed middle-aged, newly divorced man in Philly and then bam! it months later, Nathan's a 'hot' rookie with a secret hot g/f who's young enough to be his daughter.

On his first day he gets to shoot people and run and be a hero.

Oh please... if all of that had happened over three or four episodes, great. but within one episode? So bad, so cliched.

Nathan Fillion is gay, right?

Watching the premiere, I was struck by how rejuvenated he looked. Not 100% credibly 40, but certainly more so than at the end of Castle’s run.

R11 a mix of getting work done, and being rested after years of work 16 hour days on Castle.

Looking at a recent picture of him doing press for Rookie, and another one of him at the end of Castle and besides the fact he's lost a noticeable amount of weight and toned up, my guess is: had the bags under his eyes removed, his jawline and neck tightened, minor botox particularly around his eyes, and a new skin care routine (peels, laser resurfacing etc.).

Nice work if you can get it (i.e., pay for it). I’m not mad at him for it.

The work looks good on him and it's a good example of less is more. Just a few cosmetic procedures like removing bags and tightening the neck and jaw area can take years off a person.

BTW what's the scoop between Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion? I knew they despised each other when they were filming Castle and leaks from the set suggest the fault lies with Nathan?

I like him. He's like a less smarmy Jason Bateman. Hated the show though.

R27 That's something else I was going to point out, I think he might have gotten a hair transplant probably the same doctor that did Joel McHale's.

Looking at the picture R27 posted, I think really all he's had done is lost some weight (I'm guessing 20 to 40lbs), clearly had work done around his eyes, and botox around the jaw line.

The fading Conners show is dragging down the network's ratings for that whole night. And this show needed all the help it could get.

R29 The Conner's has brought in ABC's highest Tuesday night numbers in several years so far and last week's episode was the highest rated episode of a scripted TV series on any network so far this season.

Have to admit I can't diagnose what work someone might have had done from a photo.

I been a fan of NF since his Firefly, Buffy and Serenity days.

I'm not a fan of cop shows so unlikely that I'll watch.

I remember a flop from the 80's called "The Oldest Rookie" starring Paul Sorvino and D.W. Moffet. The concept was pretty much the same.

Do you think Fillion will ever come out?

He was his hottest in the movie Slither.

I used to get a mixed up with the Eads guy from CSI.

They should have just called it "Castle Without The Cunt."

He was beautiful when he was younger.

I really liked him early on.

Any Castle controversy aside, I just find that show and his new show to be incredibly formulaic. Hard pass.

I don't watch it. It's puzzling though that ABC stuck it at Tuesdays at 10pm where they haven't had a hit in... I couldn't tell you how long. They must have been banking on Fillion to draw an audience, but he hasn't.

It is not appointment tv for me but I find that I generally catch it On Demand.
