Shouldn't they be doing an all male version by now?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 21, 2018 9:56 PM |
They should make a transgender reboot.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 21, 2018 9:58 PM |

I thought for sure Banks career was over after being dragged by Twitter last year.
TL;DR She called out Steven Spielberg for not having female characters. A number of prominent black actresses reminded her of The Color Purple and she dismissed them.
To appease the black community, they cast Dijmon Housou as Bosley a few months later.

Elizabeth Banks is so fake

Charlie's Angels was a terrible detective show, just so lame with awful scripts. I can't believe that they're still trying to cash in on it years later. Count me out!

This better be terrible and bomb miserably at the BO ... the thought of Kristen Stewart getting big movies again is terrifying and would shatter me. How low has her career sunk to take this role, btw? Liz Banks directing two other unknown in a sequel to that first one and Stewart grabbed it. I always thought she made a monstrous error not moving agencies to CAA or WME. Her peers have left her in the dust completely J-Law, Emma etc.

The Drew Barrymore et al movies were really enjoyable. These will not be.

Actually, just because the TV show was a campfest doesn't mean that the films have to be bad. (I didn't see the Drew Barrymore movies.) With the right screenwriters, a good director, and talented actresses, the premise itself could still be turned into a first-rate crime/spy thriller. (Think of the last "MI" movie.) After all, the entire premise of the show was three female detectives work for a man they're never allowed to see or meet. There is nothing "automatically" campy about that.
I think it's ultimately all about the approach and the execution, not the setup -- i.e., if you have a producer like Aaron Spelling who chooses to do something crappy with the material, then it'll be crap. In the right hands, however, it could be something worth seeing.

The Barrymore movies were a blast. If you didn’t appreciate the humor and surprising pop art of them, too bad. Elizabeth Banks, on the other hand, is an insufferably art-less twat.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 5, 2019 7:40 PM |
R40, what are examples of the "surprising pop art" of the Barrymore CA movies?

R9, Kate Jackson.
It may have been terrible, but the pilot movie did HUGE numbers and an 'Angels in Chains' RERUN got an incredibly high share.
I don't care if Kate Jackson is reading the phone book, she can bring depth and humanity to her roles.
Loved her as the bitchy chain smoker who was going to adopt Kelly's baby.
Even the BAD guys were leery of her.
And she fell in love with the hijacker crook (but he wasn't a killer!); 'Angel in Love,' I think it was called.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 11, 2019 6:15 PM |
Sabina?
Those women all look pissed off and depressed.
Jaclyn Smith isn't the best actress, but I could watch her all day as Kelly in those reruns. So beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 11, 2019 7:33 PM |
^^^Agreed. Especially before the big 80's hair a few years in. What a naturally gorgeous girl. The picture of health and beauty. I could watch her (And have) with the sound off. Cheryl , Kate and Farrah were also charismatic and gorgeous. These girls. Um...
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 11, 2019 8:25 PM |
Who would watch Charlie's Angels starring these fugly broads?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 11, 2019 8:41 PM |

Sometimes Jaclyn would hold a gun and command a guy to freeze. I would chuckle out-loud because she was so stunning doing it. I would involuntarily say "God girl, Your'e gorgeous".
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 11, 2019 8:53 PM |
R50 KStew looks basic but I wouldn't call the other 2 remotely fugly.

GIRL POWER GALORE
Banks’ film marks the first Charlie’s entry on the big screen to be helmed by a female director. “It’s a really exciting moment for female-driven films,” she says, citing Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel as recent examples of box-office successes. “Audiences are really looking for those aspirational stories about real and relatable characters, and I think the women in my movie are definitely real and relatable, but most importantly, I think they’re really fun.”
They’re certainly having fun: Just look at Sabina’s array of wardrobe (and identity) changes across these photos. “I wanted Kristen to show off a side of herself you don’t often see in her movies,” Banks points out. “She’s really funny in this.”

I seriously doubt that.
[Quote] Banks, Patrick Stewart, and Djimon Hounsou, that’s who. In Charlie’s history, multiple actors playing multiple characters named Bosley have aided the Angels. To Banks, it felt natural to upgrade the name into a title. “‘Bosley’ is now a rank in the organization, like lieutenants,” she says. “All of the Angels have been played by different women and have had different names, but the Bosley character was always named Bosley no matter who played him. We thought, ‘Well, that must mean it’s more than a name.’”
Or they could've just stuck with Dijmon.

I can’t wait to miss this one.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | June 27, 2019 3:15 PM |
I am a bit more open minded about this one unlike others. All the Bosleys, even more angels in different cities - it reads like Columbia is trying to make it a huge franchise. I am seeing a show or two on streaming services coming.
What I am curious about though: What made Sir Patrick Stewart agree to this? I doubt it was the money. It can't be that this role posed an extraordinary challenge for him as an actor? So what on earth made him sign up to this?

One of the comments for the trailer, "Kristin had to take an intensive 6 month smiling course for this project". Other comments mention how often Elizabeth Banks' name is mentioned.
The music makes my ears bleed.

Riiiight. The premise is three beautiful women working for a mysterious unseen man who talks to them on speakerphone and deals with them only through a flunky. Yes that’s a premise ripe for a serious-minded remake.
Perhaps while we are at it we can remake Fast and Furious as a hard hitting expose on the dangers of speeding.

Banks wants to “own” the cheesiest of the 70s jiggle shows, women “taking it back.” As a result it will be deadly serious and deadly dull.

Agree with R48, R49 and R52 about Jaclyn Smith. She was absolutely gorgeous. So were Farrah and Cheryl Ladd. Kate Jackson was pretty, but she paled in comparison to Smith, Fawcett and Ladd. I never thought Shelley Hack was all that pretty. Tanya Roberts was ok but always seemed a bit trashy to me. Smith outclassed them all.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | October 11, 2019 6:22 PM |
Jaclyn Smith was beautiful. But she wasn't sexy.
