Too bad on your part, OP! THAT thread deserves to hijacked and blown to bits... Just sayin'; a bunch of losers who can't even roast that bitch properly with a spit and blowtorch.

They are a bunch of racist. The Indians formed a majority of the population at one time and the Fijians then set about making laws to stop them from having political power, then QEII actually got involved and told them to stop, (cause she was queen of Fiji too), so the Fijians overthrew here and became a republic, then the Commonwealth of Nations expelled them for being racist. Now the Fijians have a plurality over the Indians and are still trying to apartheid the nation.

Your racist sarcasm is so droll, OP.

Fiji was a military dictatorship for a while and for all know (or care) it still is.
It's where that bottled water comes from.
It's a lot like Fuji, a mountain in Japan and a corporation as well, in spelling at least, so be careful.

Wow. This thread is packing them in. Predict 600 in 600 years.

You got that shit right.

I'm really confused why I'm being accused of racism. I was hoping that some DLer may have personal knowledge of this country, that's all.

Like a lot of other Pacific islands, formerly governed by the British, it's rather homophobic, since it's predominantly Christian of the Pentecostal/fire-and-brimstone variety.

Says the "person" who doesn't want to accuse them of being "headhunters," r8.

Having been there a few times as a tourist, I can safely say Fiji is a dump. If you are looking for a Pacific holiday, almost anywhere else is better. As to headhunting - in the museum they have special cannibal forks, so human flesh was definitely on the menu.

They filmed the last four seasons of Survivor there. From what I see from the show, they have beautiful beaches with a rough current.

As a member of the Commonwealth, can they not receive financial assistance to develop itself as a tourist spot?
Fun fact. My city (Sacramento, CA) supposedly has the largest concentration of Fijan immigrants in the U.S. They own a couple of businesses in my neighborhood (a convenience store and an elder home caregiver agency). They have their own Assemblies of God church.

Is there a strong undercurrent of criminal gang activity like with Samoans?

So much of the usual DL ignorance on this thread.
OP - you’ll have better luck with Google.

Mt. Fiji was pretty damn cool back in the day. Although I just learned right now that she was Samoan.

R17 - I wasn't even aware that there's a problem with Samoan gang activity. I guess that's an issue down south. We don't have a significant Samoan population in Sacramento. The predominant Asian gangs here are Laotian, Mien, and Vietnamese. The Laotians seem to take up a lot of press coverage.
Haven't heard any such thing about the Fijians. Their population is comparatively much smaller and newer than the others and I believe most who arrive here already speak English. At least the English I've encountered is pretty unaccented. I assume this permits easier and greater assimilation.

Here's a fun fact - my friend went on holiday in Fiji and had sex with a Fijian and when she got back, they identified 23 different strains of sti she had picked up.
