Every few years one of those comes along, and annoys us for what seems like forever: James Blunt, Daniel Powter (BTW, WHET him??), Gotye... In reality, they are one-hit wonders but that one hit is usually like herpes until everybody realizes how shit it was in the first place and tries to quickly forget about it. Unfortunately, Ed Sheeran is like a cockroach, he simply refuses to disappear.

I give him credit for being an artist who won't put out music unless he feels it's really good. We have enough crappy music out, artists shouldn't feel obligated to release every couple years.

He is one of the sweetest guys I ever worked with. He was never comfortable with fame and shies away from it all still. He never expected that song to be that big.

My understanding was that he had a big following before the song and still does.

I love the song too. And this one too. 3/4 billion views must mean he's not a complete obscurity?

When the old gays go on about James Taylor, Harry Chapin or the awful Carly Simon I guess they were like these guys. Emotionally resonant songs with good hooks that people tire of and later find simplistic storytelling.

R4 it's pronounced like goatee-yay, or at least that's how I once heard a radio dj pronounce it.

R14 his real name is Wouter "Wally" De Backer. He's part Aussie, part Belgian, hence the weird name. The name "Gotye" is apparently a respelling of "Gauthier", the French cognate of his first name Wouter.

I was never a fan of Glee and barely know who Darren Criss is but the performance in that clip is really good. Was Matt his boyfriend? The flashback looks like they were brothers. Is that Matt singing or dubbed?
